It wasn't too late in the evening, so I was able to chat with the bartender - GiGi - who moves a mile a minute. The bar has a nightclub vibe without being pretentious, and there was a good crowd even early on. We come here pretty often, especially since we're a little older and don't really like the super crowded club scene anymore. This place has a nice balance, its still fun with good music, but it usually doesn't get overly packed and there's almost always a place to sit. The lady bartender is always very friendly and makes great drinks. They also have two separate rooms playing different types of music, so you can switch it up depending on your mood. Another plus is the free guest list before 11 PM, and sometimes they offer 50% off drinks too. Good drinks, good music, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Had a fun time at Hawthorn Saturday night! I checked it out with 2 other friends. They offer free guestlist and entry before 11 pm, so we got there around 10:40 and went right in. There was no line. It was my first time here and I thought it was pretty nice. There are a couple of private couch areas for table service as well as some general public seating. There are two dance floors, the main one featuring a mix of pop and hip hop and a room spinning EDM beats off to the side. It was nice to have the two rooms, so when we didn't like the music in one room we could always check out the other room. There was a decent crowd on both dance floors without it feeling too crowded. I'm guessing it was a mix of tourists and locals, given Hawthorn's proximity to Union Square. All drinks were 50% off before 11 pm with guestlist, which was a nice surprise. This includes even their specialty cocktails which normally go for $14, so it was a great deal. We ended up staying here for 2.5 hours, which was much longer than we expected. But between the two dance floors and lounge seating when we wanted to take a break, it was a good spot to spend Saturday night. read more

Went to a private party here and it was fantastic. Loved the vibe, kind of 20s-ish and it was all decked out for Christmas in December. Def no shortage of disco balls either. The service was excellent from the coat check to passed H'ordeuvres and bartenders ensuring everyone had drinks. This place was pretty damn awesome. Found it on Yelp originally when looking for a spot to go after the growlers show at August Hall with my boo. There's 2 areas. One had dancing music close to new age hip hop (not old school) and the other room had house where we stayed most the time. They have coat check in at the front no charge. For a Saturday night it was not overly packed but that may been on account of the rain. You don't have to get overly dressed, lots of people in comfortable casual clothing and some were over the top extravagant so whatever makes you happy! Drinks are kinda pricey but it is a nice place! Last weekend I celebrated my 45th birthday at Hawthorn. From the minute I messaged the venue until even after the occasion, my service was top notch. Chadwick was very detailed and helpful with my questions and helping secure a table that suited our preference. The table service and staff were very friendly and attentive. From the moment we checked in at the door we definitely felt like VIP. The table service staff were at our side several times through out the night and kept checking on us. We had a slight Inconvenience with the table next to us and the bouncers were quick to step in and ensure everyone was under control. Nothing out of hand just a party next to us getting a little to much in our space. It was under control within seconds. Chad even responded to my follow up questions that I had on a SUNDAY AM! It never really gets THAT twerkable lol, maybe they are trying to keep out the abgs LOL. The DJ also plays like half of a song and then switches to another song, and rarely plays the entire song. My wife and I hosted our wedding party as a private event at the Hawthorn. It was an absolutely immaculate experience with impeccable service that met or exceeded our every expectation. They helped us coordinate all the logistics of the event including catering, a small ceremony, photographer, photobooth, a hosted drink menu, and bringing out desserts later on. The best lounge we've been to in SF. We rsvp and got in for free on a Saturday before 11. They have good drinks and play great music. They play mostly old school 2000s music as well as Latin and pop mixed in there. Been here 2x already and never disappointed both times. Came here for a customer appreciation event during the week on Monday April 4th in the evening. Kelvin at the door was friendly and professional, super nice start to our evening. A good sign. We received drink tickets and went downstairs. Cool setup, cozy and different areas to sit or stand. Dark, but still lit enough to see what the drink menus were. They had appetizers that were tasty- the mushroom arancini and fried Brie were the most popular ones in my group. The bartenders, Robert and Chi Chi (I couldn't hear well down here) took care of me and I was happy to get a chance to try a few different drinks and also treat our customer while we were there. If I was back here, I'd want to come with people I knew since it's pretty difficult to see or hear anyone I'm sure when it's going full tilt. Frequented a lot of clubs in the bay area during the past 4 years and oddly enough never been to Hawthorn. Got a table here for my girlfriend's birthday yesterday. Chadwick was super helpful in accommodating us and my girlfriend and making her feel special. I thought the prices for bottle service were reasonable and loved the group cocktails as well. In addition to the traditional marquee happy birthday sign, Chadwick also provided additional treats like champagne, chocolates and cotton candy. Had our table in the Bonaparte room where they played good House music. Only bummer was the weather last night probably prevented a huge turnout, but what can you do? MUST GO TO PLACE!!!! Where do I even start? I rarely leave reviews but this place blew me out of the water with how amazing it is. My partner and I were looking for local places to let loose and be able to enjoy ourselves. We recently moved to the peninsula so it has been a lot of trial and error. However the moment we stepped into the Hawthorn we were greeted by the bouncers who looked good and were very kind. The decor is to die for! Absolutely beautiful. We went with a bourbon Moscow mule that has to be hands down the best I have had in a long time. The Djs were on fire!!!!!! The dance floor was not overly packed which was super nice! I never knew this place existed but we came here to reserve a table to celebrate. The workers were very nice and checked up on us numerous times to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed the hip hop/rap side but there was also a house music side near the ladies restroom. Water was easily accessible and was never empty which I very much appreciated. The one thing was we may have reserved late and got the table that was near the bar and it was super packed. But we will know for next time to reserve a different section of the bar. The business owner seems like he's conveniently stretching the truth far more than what happened for his benefit of course. We absolutely did *not* pass the bottle around and take *any* sips from it. We also did not put up a fight when confronted about it, a joke by the way that we admitted to wasn't a good one since most of my group were not sober. We apologized immediately and said it wouldn't happen again and did not put up a fight at all against you guys. We didn't steal anything nor take that lightly. I think it's completely unwarranted my entire group of POC friends getting kicked out and being treated extremely aggressively when we ourselves were not being aggressive towards anyone. On top of that, being berated to confess which friend did it when it doesn't even matter we already agreed to leave. If we were just escorted out and told they have to do this and we're respectful, I wouldn't even have thought to leave a bad review. It was their conduct surrounding the whole situation. Don't pretend to make yourselves the good guys here but talking about a birthday sign that you say was arriving but I never received. In no way did we demand or expect one because I'm aware we didn't come with a bottle service reservation and I appreciate the fact that you guys said were going to do it anyways. But there's no reason to bring this up as how nice you guys were being when I can from first hand experience later tell you how rude you all were to us. read more

This is my friend's go-to place for when she's out in the city and I could definitely see why! The vibes are absolutely insane and everyone in my group had a ton of fun here. First off, there is a cover charge of $20 and a 20% gratuity for everything from the bar. A drink would cost around $20, which is pretty standard for the city honestly. Hawthorn is a nightclub, but it is more similar to a lounge. The dance floor is not as big as I thought it was going to be, but it did the job! There is a ton of sitting space and tables available if you were to purchase bottles. Prices weren't bad either. We opted out because we were able to find seats elsewhere, albeit it was further from the dance floor. The music that was playing that night was solid. There was a wide range of variety and everything from hip-hop, to latin pop, to American pop music was being played. Overall, super solid spot to dance, hang, and to just move! read more

I had two visits and had to write a big one Venue - They are a club - a very polished one at that but with real deal hands up in the air and tables covered with bottle service and group cocktails. My buddy ordered one the time we got a table reservation and the photographer got him shaking this GIANT cocktail shaker with like 10 drinks in it - note we had them in proper martini glasses, a nice touch. Dress Code - One in our party got a tiny bit of flak about dress code but tbh he looked like he was dressed to do Sheetrock repair. The tone was that they were mostly concerned he would feel appropriately styled out for the occasion. You might feel a tad underdressed at this one if you're just coming in from watching your kid at little league. Service - My girlfriend ordered a red wine by the glass on our first visit and the French bartender used an aerator tip on a freshly corked bottle - noice! Not the usual club experience as the cocktails were up to par with my favorite craft bars early in the night and bartenders were able to give great recommendations. Later in the night they were buried and were heroically slinging it out but I liked how they had a quality low gear... Low-key game for real. Music - the DJ was getting seriously busy on the turntables - not just some poseur equipped with a USB stick - he even took my request unlike some places - I know you're not a jukebox but oi... I have been here for happy hour multiple times and have always had a good time. They ~CAN~ get full so I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you know you want to come. The past few times the place has been maybe only 50% full though. The popcorn is amazing and they are very kind with the refills. Honestly I come here for the popcorn, not the drinks! Ha! I have been here on Thursdays and Fridays. On Thursday HH they have $6 Tiki drinks and there are 3 flavors to choose from. I prefer the Pau Hana. On Friday the $6 HH drink is Bartender's choice so you have less selection to choose from. The normal cocktail prices are around $12, and all the ones I've tried have been very lovely. It is always a good idea to ask the bartender or waitress what drinks they recommend. I like sweet drinks so I usually go through the menu myself, then use the waitress/bartender to help me narrow down my decision once I am between my last 2-3 drinks! read more

Dancers are amazing. The space is clean and it's never too crowded which are all pluses in my book. BUT BEWARE Last I went I had a really awful bartender. I had a round of well tequila shots, and when I asked for another round they tried to pour me higher shelf tequila, which is shady as hell. When I confronted them about it they made some weak excuse. Plus when I asked what the 20% surcharge was for they lied and said it was taxes. Just be up front and don't try to sneak me a more expensive alcohol. Really shady practice. It is my second time to come back to this place because I had such a great experience the first time. I came here with my friends on Saturday February 18th just before to realize it was a 3 days weekend with President's day. It means that everyone from the city is gonna be gone for there long weekend. My friends are Awesome so it didn't bother me to come on a slower night.
