Best chill b-day ever. :) Friday 7/3. I spent the day at The Embarcadero, which included Happy Hour at Epic. I had gone last year and sat inside the bar overlooking the Bay at night, which was so soothing with all the lights. This time, we sat outside in the enclosed piazza with beautiful, crisp white tablecloths, the most perfect 68° weather (no wind!), Argentina playing a World Cup match in the background, and the best company My Chef man. We ordered an EPIC Martini (perfection!), The Agave Cut--a twist on a margarita that was even better--along with the Bucket Chicken, a Wagyu cheeseburger and fries, and Pacific oysters. The chicken? I'd order it all day long - crunchy, herby, juicy. Looooved it and highly recommend it. The oysters were also a memorable experience for me - melt in your mouth wonderful texture. As someone who's tried several times to like oysters, my chef told me I'd been eating them wrong this whole time. "Don't just swallow them--chew a bit. Taste them." Ahhh... okay, that's how you do it. The waitstaff were fantastic--attentive, friendly, and professional, always making sure we had everything we needed. I love coming here with friends who are from out of town. Very thankful the restaurant seated us outdoors so we could watch the sun set and enjoy the view of the Bay Bridge! Even though it was a windy day, the restaurant provided us with blankets and heat lamps to keep us all comfortable. STEAK FRITES (4/5) - the most bang for your buck. I enjoyed the tarragon bearnaise sauce, but I much preferred having it with the chimichurri sauce. I ordered my flat iron steak medium rare. The edges were quite tough. GARLIC SHRIMP (4/5) - very enjoyable and perfect for sharing. BREAD & BUTTER (3/5) - to be honest I thought it was complementary. The edges were hard and dry. The butter was good but to be honest I don't think I could tell the difference between bad or good butter. BANANA BREAD PUDDING (4/5) - If you have a sweet tooth this is the dessert for you. The brûlée bananas had a unique texture of crunchy and soft. The banana bread was rich and paired well with the vanilla ice cream. I expected more ice cream tbh. Not a wine person so it's hard to give it a review but the wine was fine. Felt more acidic than wines I'm used to. Service was on the slower end, but it feels like they were understaffed. We had dinner at EPIC Steak recently and it was a pretty good experience. It was my first time dining here after several years. The restaurant is conveniently located by the waterfront (about a 10 minute walk from the ferry building). We opted to start off with bread & butter and then garlic shrimp. Both items were made well and tasty. For entrees, we ordered a New York steak, roasted Halibut, and steak frites along with a side of sautéed mushrooms. The chimichurri sauce paired well with the steak and had a nice texture. I will say the steak frites weren't as tasty as I thought, but the fries were great and crispy. But the steak itself was alright. The NY steak was much better and had a slight crust & nice flavor. The side of sautéed mushrooms were quite flavorful and had a nice mix of different mushrooms. Customer service was wonderful, with staff being friendly and attentive during our meal. Brandt was our server and he was excellent, and made the dining experience at Epic worthwhile. We were celebrating a birthday and received a dessert (we got the banana bread pudding) and ordered a seasonal sorbet as well. The banana bread pudding was comforting and not overly sweet and paired well with vanilla ice cream. The sorbet was a passion fruit/mango/guava flavor and quite refreshing, although a bit too sour. The restaurant's atmosphere was lively and it was nice to see others dining in and enjoying a meal. The views are pretty great too, so sitting by a window or outside are both great options. My first time here, party of two, we were sat on the semi outdoor patio with the fabulous view of the bay and bridge. It was a bit chilly and windy but the fireplace was going and that helped warm it up. We ordered the happy hour bucket of fried chicken and the happy hour cheeseburger meal. The chicken was absolutely divine and the chili sauce just added extra burst of flavor. The cheeseburger meal was just okay it reminded me of a glorified Happy meal. I don't think I've ever experienced a restaurant staffed with employees who way overshoot their station more egregiously. Happy Hour is upstairs in the bar, which they had roped off from downstairs and you had to be escorted up (like you're getting bottle service in Vegas or something). Hostess was extremely rude and in the most condescending tone possible told me "we're at capacity, you'll have to wait." I understand she had to convey a message, but it's not WHAT she said, it was HOW she said it. So I walked over to sit on the bench (I was the only one waiting) and then get the nod to migrate to Mecca apparently. Not five minutes after I parked on the bench a couple came downstairs and I asked the husband if they were leaving or just using the restroom. He said we're done and leaving. A few minutes went by then the runner brought me upstairs. I guess at Epic Steak "at capacity" means eight empty tables inside and six outside (it was almost 80 degrees when I came in, would've happily been seated outside; nope not even offered a seat there and yes the patio was open and not reserved, I asked). Service was beyond slow and I found out the entire happy hour menu is pre-batched that day. Meaning, no substitutions (which is common), but also no eliminations. Ummm, what? A couple of examples of what they consider eliminations: The mini crab cakes come sitting on top of a sauce which I personally don't like so I asked if they could just leave it off because I wasn't going to eat it. Nope. That's an elimination to them. So I asked my server, (claimed he couldn't locate the manager to address my question), "So let me make sure I understand this correctly, I told you i wasn't going to eat it as I was ordering it and please just simply to leave it off the plate, not to replace it with anything else. You're telling me, knowing full well that's it's just going to go to waste, that you're still going to waste the time to make it (when you're allegedly at capacity")? Yup, they sure did. Another example if you order the happy hour cheeseburger they don't allow you to be served without cheese. I asked well what if the person is lactose intolerant or just flat out allergic? His response, "Well then, they'll have to order off the big.boy menu and we'll customize it how they like." Oh gee thanks for that, I'd think after the cost of the dinner burger itself, tax, your 7% service charge (which doesn't all go to the staff but does help line the owner's pockets) and gratuity totaling roughly $45 it wouldn't exactly be asking for the moon to have the burger the way I want. Hey Epic, you've got a great location and the chimichurri skewers were very good, but at the next staff meeting everyone needs to drink some settle down juice. You guys aren't Smyth, so set your egos aside and focus on your customers. I'm sure the business is making plenty of money, but success should breed additional success not foster irrational confidence. read more

They treat you right at Epic for special occasions. A birthday card signed by the staff and a birthday dessert was beautifully presented. A friend said to try the BBQ platter from the brunch menu. Came to Epic Steak to celebrate my brother graduating from SFSU and had a great time! If you're looking for a place to celebrate with great views, service and food, this is a great option! We had 8:45 reservations, but the ceremony ended earlier than we anticipated and we messaged them asking if we could move up our reservation and they did it with no problem! The only caveat was we had to be seated outdoors, but we didn't mind because we had a great view of the bridge, and the heat lamps kept us pretty warm for the whole night. From start to finish, the service was excellent! Our server, Francisco I believe was his name, was great and made sure to highlight my brothers graduation! The menu's had a congratulations print on it, and they gave him a note signed by the staff congratulating him on his graduation, which was such an awesome touch! He checked on us throughout our whole dinner and made sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying everything. He was attentive to the smallest details, like re-folding our napkins after getting up to use the restroom. He definitely made the already great experience here fantastic! After a long ceremony, we came hungry! We ordered a bunch of apps, but the standout was the beef tartare. It had great flavor and paired wonderfully with the potato chips. I went with the steak frites, and it was great! I asked for my steak medium, and it was cooked great. I enjoyed my fries, but felt they could've been cooked a but longer but that might just be my preference. They had a steak and chimichurri sauce with the steak, and the chimichurri was excellent! They also had black, pink and regular sea salt, and the black salt was amazing. It really elevated the steak, and paired with the chimichurri sauce was chefs kiss. We had to leave room for dessert, and we got almost one of each. The banana bread pudding was great! It wasn't too sweet, and had a great caramelized sauce. The bruleed banana was great addition and paired nicely with the ice cream. They gave my brother complimentary dessert of his choice, and also brought out a dried strawberry kiwi fruit brick thing that we didn't order, but appreciated trying! The steaks were great and we actually did a 2nd round since with 8 people, it wasn't enough. As for the sides, I really enjoyed the mushrooms and mac & cheese. The Julia Childs potatoes I thought was just ok. For dessert we got like 2 of each of the first 3 or so, can't even remember. My favorites were the tiramisu and just the soft serve. The happy hour drinks were excellent, especially the margarita and the Spirits cocktail. The only disappointment was the mini crab cakes during happy hour. The good, the bad, and the tough. Let's start with the good, because unfortunately there isn't much of it when it comes to the food. Nice views and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We were here for a bday celebration and left extremely disappointed. The Tomahawk steak was so tough, chewy, and full of gristle that we had to send it back. To their credit, the kitchen staff actually tried it and agreed there was an issue (as reflected on the bill). We then ordered the Porterhouse as a replacement, but it wasn't much better and was overcooked and flavorless. Honestly, I've made better steaks from Costco in my air fryer--no joke. The fries were also disappointing. At $16, the portion was about the size of a small McDonald's order. The only truly standout food item was the Caesar salad. The complimentary birthday dessert, the Epic Sundae, was underwhelming as well: soft-serve ice cream (again like at McDonalds) over a stale brownie. For a restaurant at this price point, we expected much more. What was most surprising was that the manager never stopped by the table to acknowledge the issue with the Tomahawk or offer any explanation. A simple conversation would have gone a long way. Between the poor quality of the steaks, small portions, and lack of management follow-up = cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning. We had a 4:45 reservation and I'll admit I was slightly panicked when GPS showed we were only 2 miles away but somehow 41 minutes out. I knew the restaurant had a 15-minute grace period and we were cutting it close, so I called. The person who answered was incredibly kind and reassuring and told us not to worry. That immediately set the tone. Once we arrived (after finally finding parking), every single staff member we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was knowledgeable, personable, and made us feel completely at home. He explained the menu clearly and gave us just the right amount of space to enjoy the experience without ever feeling rushed. We ordered the New York strip, ribeye, crab cakes, mushrooms, wedge salad, potato purée, Old Fashioneds, and I tried two wines -- plus of course the bread and butter. Everything was phenomenal. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious -- flavorful, well-balanced, and not overly heavy. The steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly -- even the fat was delicious (no shame ). The potato purée was so smooth it almost tasted chowder-like. The mushrooms were rich and flavorful. The salad was fresh and balanced. And dessert? Perfectly sweet -- not overpowering, not bland, just right. When we finished dinner, they boxed up our leftover steak for us and then placed the to-go bag on a small stand next to our table while we enjoyed dessert. Such a thoughtful touch. As the best-man of the upcoming groom, I was tasked with organizing a low-key bachelor party in San Francisco. After catching a Golden State Warriors game, I knew the crew would be hungry. About 30 days before the event, EPIC Steak opens up their reservation books. I was able to book a nice table for five at 9:00PM on a Saturday evening all through the app Open Table. The game finished a bit earlier than expected so we found ourselves at the restaurant early. No worries, the host checked us in and seated us immediately. That was nice. The restaurant is very elegant- everything from the décor, table configuration, music and overall vibe. Upon entering, you can feel that you're at a nice place. Our table was ready for us in a cozy and comfy rounded booth. A very nice touch was the menu's had a congratulatory message for the bachelor as well a card for the bachelor. That is amazing attention to detail and a great way to make this event even more special. The bachelor really appreciated those touches. The best part of the evening was two-fold; our service and the food. Let's start with the service: I would put our server in the Top3 servers I have ever encountered. I eat out quite a bit and he impressed me to no end. He was friendly, fun, efficient, straight forward and overall on top of the game. He understood what we wanted & needed, made excellent recommendations and just kept the flow going. And he was able to do all of this while helping other patrons. We felt the service time, accuracy and attention was perfect. Drinks & appetizers came out in a timely fashion. Our waters were never empty. The small talk was perfect without being over bearing or intrusive. We were given warm departure messages by our server and the host at the front desk. Excellent. The food was just as impressive. We had the oysters, bread & butter and beef tartar which was plenty for a group of five. We all ordered a variety of steaks and each steak was cooked to perfection. For sides, we went with the Yukon potatoes, brussels sprouts and carrots. I will say 3 sides is the perfect amount for a group of five. If you're extra hungry, one more side would work. The dessert menu looked good with a variety of ice creams and cakes, but we all opted for espressos and cappuccinos. A small plate with four bite-sized pieces of cake were provided complimentary with a 'Congratulations' chocolate piece at the center- how cool. Overall, a 5/5 Star experience. Wow! They blew me away with the amazing hospitality and service. They made our dual birthday celebration special & I so appreciated it. Not only a card from the whole staff but a dessert too, very memorable. Thank you Jim and Epic!!! This is an upscale steak house with that classic gentleman's club style. Not too fancy just the right amount of class. Think heavy furniture thats NOT dated lol. I found the food to be just right. It all tasted so delicious and then some! The absolute star of the show was the french toast( we did brunch). It was so creamy, creative and pretty much everything about it was on point. My only two notes for the food are that the syrup for the french toast should be 100% real Vermont maple & the potatoes or sauce on crab cake benny was a tad salty but totally still edible. Beautiful view of the Bay bridge and embarcadero. Be prepared to spend but I well worth the price to me for the experience you get. Try for yourself, I totally recommend!!! read more

this restaurant has the nicest people working there and the best views ever. i came here with my husband for our anniversary and the staff went above and beyond. they gave us a card with all of their signatures, a complimentary dessert, and even printed "happy anniversary" on our menu which was such a nice touch. the food was just okay overall. i will say the steak was cooked perfectly and the mac and cheese was amazing, but my husband and i felt like everything else was lacking a bit in flavor. we were especially disappointed with the prime rib. the meat itself was cooked perfectly, but the au jus was so overwhelming that it took over the whole dish. the desserts were nice and sweet though :) there are a lot of things that make this such a great restaurant -- the service, the atmosphere, and the views. i just wish the food lived up to the rest of the experience. read more

Our server, Paul was exceptional, very knowledgeable and patient with the chopped uncs in attendance. Paul also provided good recommendations. Burrata was tasty, though the golden raisins took over making the dish slightly too sweet. Got good reviews about the crab cakes from my table mates (I'm allergic and couldn't try) Got the steak, side, app, and dessert combo and I was thoroughly satisfied! My ribeye was cooked as requested and had a lot of flavor, the server let me know they use walnut, almond wood and mesquite coals on the grill if I remember correctly. For a place like this you expect th steak to be good, so if the sides aren't then you really know. And I must say the sides were slay! Carrots and mushrooms and cauliflower were exceptionally well flavored and cooked, tender in all the right spots. Not often you get good variety of veggie sides. Potatoes were potatoes so good ya know. I had the honeysuckle Negroni and that was well balanced and smooth. For dessert I got the passion fruit mousse. Here is a late review. My friends came here in January 2026. We had girls night, the day after New Year's Day. It was raining on this day. The ambiance was beautiful, cozy and warm. We all ordered cocktails which were delicious and strong. We've ordered steaks, shrimp, mashed potatoes and carrots. Everything was very tasty. To end the night, we had espresso martinis. This place absolutely lives up to its name. I ordered the 28-day porterhouse (per a recommendation I received), and it was to die for -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and honestly one of the best steaks I've had. My husband went big with the 40-day aged tomahawk, and he loved every bite. We also added a full lobster as an add-on, which made the meal feel even more luxurious. The sides were outstanding -- especially the Julia Child potatoes and the mushrooms. We started with two glasses of red wine and their burrata appetizer with tomatoes, which was so fresh and delicious. What really made the night special was the birthday attention. They surprised me with a handwritten birthday card signed by (what seemed like) most of the staff -- such a sweet touch -- and they also brought out a complimentary birthday dessert.
