In my experience, this felt like either incompetence or an attempt to oversell a job that wasn't needed. I was getting ready to give up on having a vintage range, for though I had been promised that it was built like a tank and would work forever with maintenance, I was tired of paying for nearly annual visits to address new fails, each time after wondering for a couple of weeks if I was imagining the gas smell before calling PGE to verify that yes, I am smelling gas. On this visit Matt came out to fully address the repeated fails, far more thoroughly than my previous experiences. He ensured that quality parts were utilized, that the knobs were rigged so that they wouldn't cause fails, and ingeniously weighted the oven door so that it will stay fully open or shut; previously springs had been upgraded, but after a few months the door would creep partially open, so that oven temp couldn't be maintained. The stovetop and oven work better than they ever have in our 13 years of living here - the knobs turn smoothly, the gas comes out more fully and cleanly, the oven holds temperature, and best of all, no more gas leaks, and I believe that this time the repairs will hold, since Matt was so thorough. Matt said that he will stand by his work and ensure that this range continues to operate safely, which I appreciate, since I realized that at this time I'd really rather not have to re-wire the kitchen to accommodate an induction range.
