Two stars because they have nice jewelry for sale, but be advised: Oaks sends out their jewelry to have work done elsewhere. They don't tell you this up front, but if you ask them, they will tell you this is the truth about their work on your jewelry. So... I requested specially that some heirloom jewelry not be sent out for work because I felt nervous about the potential for loss in transit, and I got my things back after four months (they had indeed warned me it would take a long time, but this was longer than quoted). Honestly, the work done at the Oaks shop looks amateurish. It looks like a beginner did it. My bad, because I insisted on having the work done in-house, but I didn't know that would mean such a poor quality. Never again. EDIT in response to reply that basically invalidates my experience-- these were not heirloom restorations. I asked for a battery to be replaced in a watch, and for the clasp to be made a bit longer so it would fit me. The watch was returned to me in poorer shape than when I left it, with a newly slightly bent gold band. The new clasp extension does not stay closed and it looks awful. Also, I was told in the store that they only have one person who does gold smithing and he is always "very busy." I was made to feel like a bother for inquiring about my watch after 2 months of waiting with no contact from the shop. Waited 2 months more and finally got my watch back, but I'll have to take it elsewhere to be re-worked. OH! Almost forgot -- one of the fun little diamond rings I purchased there the same day I dropped off my watch already lost one of the tiny little diamonds after 3 months of wear . read more

Very good experience coming in to replace my rubber watch band, which was torn and could have fallen apart at any time. So I needed to replace it ASAP, and wondered whether they would have any in the right size. I'm really glad I went to Oaks: it turned out that they had three different bands in my size to choose from! I could really feel the quality of the rubber in the band I chose, noticeably more supple and comfortable than most I've had. The lady behind the counter was really helpful, and had the new watch band installed very quickly. She is a really friendly and efficient worker there. I was in and out much faster than expected - the completed task could easily have fit into a work break. Yet I was very well taken care of, and there wasn't a feeling of being rushed at all. Overall, including on previous visits, the place has had the feel of being well run in general. It's often not easy in a retail environment having the right balance between being friendly and being efficient, but they manage to do well at both. read more

When I got home I realized that I didn't like the look of the new band and Oak Jewelers graciously agreed to give me a refund. I recently had a silver ring made slightly larger. I requested that the oxidized part of the ring remain black. As a former jeweler, I know what this entails-a simple pounding out of the back of the ring on a ring anvil, and to shine the silver with a "rouge" cloth or lightly buff it from a machine that does not touch the "blackened " or oxidized part. Yet, I was charged $95.00 for the sizing, to re-blacken it again, and Oaks jewelers had me waiting over two weeks & two calls as to when I could pick it up. We visited a couple of jewelry shops for our wedding rings, and we decided on Oaks. Stylistically, Oaks' jewelry is more traditional in style so you aren't going to find a lot of funky or modern jewelry designs. The staff at Oaks spends a lot of time with you as you're making decisions and has a lot of patience and even though there were a number of customers waiting, we didn't feel pressured to make decisions quickly. As we were making our decisions, they offered to order samples for us to try which was super helpful to be able to see what the actual rings would look like. I'm not sure what it's like not during the pandemic but they limit the number of people in the store (which also may be for security reasons). However, the last time I went in for them to clean and appraise my grandmothers diamond ring, the jeweler was super short with me. He looked at the ring under the scope then handed it to someone who told me "he says it is tight". That was it - then he got on the phone to talk to a vendor. I only say that because the employees are always nice, welcoming and take their time to make sure you are happy with what you decide to go with. In terms of Covid, they make sure they limit how many people can come in, all the employees wear a mask, and they have shields that distance the customer and the employee. Before you enter the store, there is a sign that says how many customers can go in and they will buzz you in when you are permitted to come inside. Best jeweler I've ever used. And their repair work is impeccable. The last item I had them work on was a silver rosary I got from Westminster Chapel which I thought I could wear as a necklace. One of the lady had bad mannerism and customer service. I was only 2 minutes late and want to pick up the hoop earrings that I left two weeks ago and she snatched the receipt with full anger. Some people need to understand it takes a lot of effort to drive at a shop just to get their items fixed. And shouldn't be so angry about just picking up an item. Jesus Christ! I also want to say that I got charged $15 and not $10. The lady who got angry really needs to get herself together and not take things personally. It is very unprofessional and she needs to be trained on how to treat her customers right. If we agreed on $10 then it should be $10.
