Getting ready to watch the Fireworks show!
    PatrickJ T.

I enjoy stopping over in Redding whenever we are travelling in this part of the country. Nice selection of restaurants. Clean air. Friendly people. Not crowded with traffic like the big cities. Terrific location close to everything. Just about everything is only 2 to 4 hours away. Missing the big city? Sacramento is only a couple hours away. Want to do some tax free shopping? Oregon stateline is an easy day trip away too. Love nature? There are a ton of outdoorsy activities to do. Redding is a fine laid back city from what I've seen and experienced from my several visits. By the way, they also have a GREAT July 4th Fireworks Show every year!!

Pile of debris next to my home

we live on Hazelwood Ct. right off Placer. There is a field that is next to us that is someone else's property. Last year someone came before summer and cut a 100 foot fire break next to our house in that field but they did leave a large pile of debris next to our house. This year they have not even come to cut a fire break. We had a friend that came over and cut about 30 feet but was unable to do any more. We have contacted the local Fire Department, Fire Marshal and the City about this very dangerous field and nothing has been done. This field belongs to a house on Placer. We were told that due to the high fire danger here in Redding that if you see something say something. Unfortunately nothing has been done and we have not been contacted about it either. My next contact will be to the Media since nothing is being done by the city to protect us or our home..

Ask the Community - City of Redding

My family is looking into buying a home in Redding, it seems affordable. We are now living in the State of WA, we were thinking of a midpoint where our kids can visit and bring the grand kids in the Summers. What areas should we consider and avoid?

Hi Bella, thank you for your inquiry. You probably have already made your decision however for the good of the Yelp community we thought we would add some helpful information. Housing decisions are best decided by individual families however we can…

These are wives, mothers and grandmothers working here, which is great! I can talk to them and even exchange motherly wisdom. They are open to making adjustments wherever need be. As a nursing mom, I use my breaks to feed my daughter and have been doing so for several months. They have been so accommodating to this. They work as a team to raise the babies. I have never came there and my daughter was soaked and dirty, with the exception of her need to grab for the spoon during her morning feeds(can we say mess). She does this with me, so I don't expect them to be miracle workers. One of my favorite things about this place, outside of the staffing, is how the kids are separated. We all know that the older a kid gets the more they are into things, the more aggressive they can be and so forth. I passed up many Daycare Centers because the kids were grouped or easily had access to another group. Here, the kids are divided into rooms (with actual doors and hallways) and buildings, not only by AGE but also by DEVELOPMENT. The experienced walkers are separated from the crawlers, and non crawler and so forth. There are plenty of toys, learning activities, and reading. Ok lets talk price. They are by far the best when it comes to working with you. My husband and I schedules are rarely consistent. Sometimes we need full time, sometimes we do not. Unlike many other organizations, Kinderland has adjustable pricing and are willing to credit for the time that was not used. For me this was fabulous. When we decided to go out of town we did not get charged for those days that she was not in attendance. You will find that most places charge you for a set schedule regardless if the days are used and for their time off/holidays. Just a side note. I think it is important for parents to take the time to connect and share with the caregiver. Let them know your needs, they are pact full of information and can tell you what is going on (just in case you missed it). Not every place is meant for everyone, that is why we have options. Take the time to choose wisely.

Only having a few boats going out the day we checked in made for a very enjoyable experience! Every staff member (houseboats, marina store, maintenance) I encountered was kind, accommodating and helpful. The houseboats are fine enough. I know they just get hammered all summer long, so wear and tear is expected. My one suggestion Silverthorn, take those gross dingy yellow curtains off the windows. Thank you for another great week on the lake!!

We rented "The Queen" (the 20-person boat) for a family trip over Labor Day weekend, expecting to enjoy a great time on the lake. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by major mechanical and operational failures. While the exterior deck and grill were nice initially, the boat completely broke down the moment we tried to dock--the engine wouldn't start, and the mechanic couldn't fix it on-site. To make matters worse, the AC completely failed in the heat, and the sewage system began overflowing, filling the cabin with an unbearable odor. This was especially distressing given that we had young children on board. When the mechanic finally returned an hour and a half late the next morning (9:30 AM instead of the promised 8:00 AM), he was kind enough to give some of us a ride back due to time constraints, which we appreciated. However, management's response has been completely silent--offering zero compensation or accountability for a very expensive rental that we couldn't actually use. For the high price tag charged, this level of service and equipment failure is unacceptable. Book at your own risk!!!!

Booking the pontoon was easy and straightforward through their website, with no issues at all. When we arrived, we checked in at the front desk. The boat driver and all passengers are required to use iPads to initial and sign a waiver before getting on the boat. The check-in process was very simple and took about 10 minutes. The employee who helped us was friendly and nice. Once we completed the paperwork, the employee gave us a boat assignment tag, parking pass and directed us to pick up our rental. We headed down to the docks, where we were assigned our pontoon. We then took the boat over to the launch area, loaded all of our gear, and headed out for the day. The pontoon itself was definitely showing its age. It wasn't particularly clean and had cobwebs throughout the boat. It had a hardtop canopy that provided plenty of shade, and while the seats were in decent shape with no holes or tears, they were noticeably dirty. I understand that these are rental boats and they naturally experience a lot of wear and tear, so I wasn't expecting a brand-new boat. However, I do think the overall cleanliness could be improved. That said, the boat was functional and got us where we needed to go without any issues. We found a nice cove, anchored up, and enjoyed the day on the lake. At the end of the day, we returned to the dock, unloaded our gear, and handed the boat back to an employee. The return process was just as easy as the check-in. Once the boat was returned, there was no need to go back into the office or complete any additional paperwork. Overall, despite some of the cleanliness and condition issues with the pontoon, we had a good experience. The booking, check-in, and return processes were all very easy, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely consider renting a boat from here again, although I would hope to see some improvements in the cleanliness and upkeep of the boats.

We were having fun and I wasn't watching the sun in the sky- and then realized that we needed to get to a gas station ASAP. We pulled in on absolute fumes to Bridge Bay at 6:05pm, and were greeted by a very kind young man who let us know unfortunately that they were closed. I begged for a miracle- single lady on a lake with a bunch of kids, and he took me to see his manager to plead my case. I even offered them $100 cash for any gas they might have... manager said no. "Nope, I don't have the codes." No idea what that means... just know he refused to help me. I realize that this was my mistake- but honestly, a gas station should have a way to help people in emergencies. I'd leave a one star review- but the young man was so kind and polite, he was really trying to help, despite his manager. It was a lesson learned about gas, closing times, and I have a new awareness about the lake community- you are really on your own out there.
