Big Buck Steelhead landed and in the net
    Jeff M.

I've been doing business with the Fly Shop for years. They are a full scale Fly Fishing outfitter with a premier experience. I have the opportunity to fish only once or twice a year; so, when I do, I want to get the most out of my time. The Fly Shop guide services are world class and, well worth the money. Their staff have consistently demonstrated to be highly experienced anglers, professional and, most importantly, they know the waters they fish in the area better than anyone. Whether it is trout on the Lower Sac, or Steelhead on the Trinity, you are sure to get someone who knows how to put you into where the fish are with the right tackle and riggings. I was most recently fishing with Ross on the Trinity for Steelhead. He grew up fishing the waters around Redding and proved to know the Trinity like it was his backyard. Most importantly, he made the day productive for me with a huge Buck Steelhead among others. Sure, you can take pride in figuring all of this out yourself, and wading the river trying to find the right holes, the right tackle and the right flies; but, if your time is important to you, and you have only a small amount of it and you want to catch fish, I highly recommend the guide services at the Fly Shop. Give Chris at the guided trip desk a call, you'll be happy you did.

Todd and The Fly Shop provided excellent service and two great days of fishing on the Lower Sac and Baum Lake.

Came in here to get our license (fly fishing in the lower Sacramento river) trip...(company team building) and the folks were friendly and helpful. They allowed our group to take pictures of the variety of baits they had ... really interesting stuff... and all the other gears they had were amazing (first time fishing for this gal) and I was just in awe. I have new respect for the movie "A River Runs Through" - for real!

All hail the Mighty Shane! What an amazing father/son trip Shane made possible. Expert guide, friendly, funny and an amazing teacher to my son (and me!) on his first fly fishing trip. My son caught his first fish ever off the boat and the NEXT day Shane put him on his first fish ever caught wearing waders including a 20-incher. Amazing guy with an amazing story and can't wait to hang out with him again. The Fly Shop end to end provided wonderful support and communication. Don't hesitate to link up with these guys and if Shane is available, do yourself a favor.

    Big trout!

I finally got out on the river with a Fly Shop Guide and was able to forget about COVID for 9 hours....best remedy out there! Bryan Baylog is an awesome guide...knows his fish and customized our experience based on our skills and interest! And he put us on some fish! (Mine was bigger)! We highly recommend The Fly Shop, and the crew at the 'adventure desk' will set you up! Fly Fishing is now a family activity, getting the grand-kids 'hooked' next!

The guys at The Fly Shop were great! Some of the friendliest and most helpful sales associates I've seen in a while. It's clear they live and breathe fishing. You can get every type of fly imaginable, other tools such as rods, and even procure a fishing license here! The associates are also happy to guide you to spots in the area and aim to set you up for success.

Ask the Community - The Fly Shop

Does anyone know if The Reel Deal is still in business?

Thank you for your question William. Ross stopped making the Reel Deal several years ago. We do have one pack left of the Medium size (3 per pack). It is $14.00 per pack and fits 3-4" spools. Otherwise, we haven't seen anything new like that for…

That being said let me give kudos where kudos are due...... 5--Star Service ***** I went to Big 5 to look at - and hopefully find - a pair of shoes to replace my very worn Coleman hiking sneakers. There was a clearance sale out in the parking lot, so I spent my first 15-20 minutes trying to find something in my size and try them on. Unfortunately nothing there fit the bill. So I went in... I was greeted by a kind young lady in the footwear department and spent the next hour sending her into the back many times trying to find just the right pair. She (Amanda) was very knowledgeable and friendly. During all this time she engaged most of her customers in small talk while helping them. I felt quite at ease and not rushed. Not once did Amanda show signs of stress, but instead, was patient yet prompt with each customer - even when there were lots of us there at one time. Her knowledge of footwear was shared with me and helped to pinpoint what styles of shoes I should be looking at. With her direction and patience I finally singled-out a pair of New Balance cross trainers (622's) which were surprisingly light as well as supportive. Their comfort was far beyond that of the Asics and the Nike's (which were the lightest of the bunch but did not fit my foot well at all - bummer), and the Dr. Scholl's which were heavy yet gave no upper support. The majority of what I tried on were either too thin or too small though they were stamped in my size. The service there can't be beat. And I'm sure if they don't have what you're looking for, they are more than able to direct you to a store (either locally or regionally) that can assist you. I would like to add that John was very helpful as well. He made it a point to come over and see if I needed any assistance, and he did it with patience and a smile. Do they have THAT in the Bay Area? ( sorry, I couldn't resist )

We had been shopping for about 20 minutes when he suddenly needed to use the restroom. I was shocked to be told that there is no customer restroom and that I could take my 4-year-old grandson to the gas station down the road. Seriously? He is FOUR YEARS OLD. At that point, I was so upset that I left the store without purchasing a single thing. I will never shop here again. You just lost a customer, and from now on, I'll be taking my business to Dick's instead. I understand that businesses have policies, but refusing a bathroom to a small child and simply telling a paying customer to take him to a gas station is completely unacceptable. The way this was handled was extremely disappointing and left me angry enough to walk out without buying anything.
