They unabashedly sell fake scallops. The posted items for sale in the market simply said Scallops. I ask where they got their scallops and she said north Florida. I thought they looked strange but it did not occur to me to suspect they were fake....Pollock or shark perhaps They looked like 1/2 inch pieces of a sliced banana. Uniform in size in other words. I had planned to shop Camellos and Triad but both were closed on Christmas Eve. Before buying the scallops for our dinner we had lunch there since the above mentioned were closed. I ordered a shrimp po boy. The shrimp were good but the bun was stale and it only held the shrimp...no tomatoes or lettuce or aolie..only a slather of mayo. There are cold beers, sodas, hard seltzer, and wine that you grab from the cooler. It's nice to sit and chill and watch the airboats go by. We ordered a pound of large Stone Crabs ( mustard sauce is extra) and at $30 per pound it was a very good deal. They were sweet and tender. The mustard sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste but it did the job. We also ordered a fried shrimp and cracked conch basket with fries. The fish was fresh and lightly battered and the fries were good. All the food comes out hot! Other friends got a fish wrap and a scallop wrap and really enjoyed them too. City Seafood is a super casual, hole in the wall style of seafood place. Keep in mind this is "Everglades City" we are talking about here, not a city like MIA, Tampa or anything of size =) The restaurant is near the marina and is waterfront. The reason to go here besides the super casual vibe is that you will get good and fresh seafood. The format is that you order inside, and they call you when your food is ready. Seating is outside on the dock. I ordered the blackened grouper and was 100% satisfied. Inside, where you order, they offer beers in an ice tub. I came in late, so the pickings were slim ... only a Heineken or two left, some Corona and way too many Bud Lights. City Seafood does not offer much in the service department. No one is rude, and the staff is relatively efficient. The bottom line is, some of the staff were friendly, some were not. This would be the one area they can improve upon. You come to City Seafood for the food and laid-back environment. Here they excel. I would most definitely be a regular if I lived in the area or passed thru regularly. It is certainly worth the stop coming off of Route 41 going thru the Glades in either an East or West direction. I will come back here again. Two thumbs up. read more

Drive down to Everglades City from Marco to check out "Stone Crab Capital". Had zero game plan and stopped in as the place looked quaint. Had a pound of stone crabs and a softshell crab sandwich. Both were crazy good and reasonably priced. Add a couple ice cold beers and what a great lunch. The bonus was two dolphins playing by the dock 20 feet away. This place is worth the drive and the service is old school southern charm at its finest. This is by far the best place in this city. Quick stop before Marco Island and you wont regret it. Their buffalo shrimp wrap was delicious. The fish basquet was a delicacy. Pretty funny for a funky, seaport village to call its' best fish purveyor "City Seafood." The market has a display case with fresh caught fish. A handwritten sign alerts visitors about what's already sold out. On our visit, the medium stone crabs ($33/lb), and mussels were long gone. The customer in front of us had driven a half hour from Golden Gate Estates to buy fresh catch for her house guests. Black grouper was the luxurious purchase. We came to the counter to ask for an ice cream attendant. My friend exists on every kind of ice cream. Here, Royal Scoop has it's own cubicle with walk up service. We had just gone hiking in the Fakahatchee Strand, which is up US 29 from Everglades City. We make it a tradition to head down south after the hike and enjoy some fresh seafood.
