The man who came over for the measuring and consultation really took his time, was very personable, and gave us very good input about our purchase. He was professional and respectful. Less than two weeks later I was contacted to confirm the installation date. The man who came to install the shades was also very professional, took his time and make sure that everything was set up correctly straight and to my standards. If I could give ZERO stars i would! WARNING!!! I cannot begin to tell you how BAD the service/customer service. DO NOT USE THEM!!! THey shrunk my drapery that they were suppose to clean, and I have been calling and calling, and still cannot get a manager or owner on the phone, and the lady that answers the phones is completely rude to me, and hangs up on me each time, saying "they are trying to fix it, and someone will call you back." SOOO rude. I am not a complainer, but this is ridiculous. Trying to fix what!! They shrunk them by a foot and ruined my drapes. And Im the one to made feel wrong for calling them to try to talk to a manager on the phone. TERRIBLE!! And no apology whatsoever! EDIT AS OF 8/22/18: they did NOT fix the issue like they said in the comment- they replaced my expensive embroidered black out curtain that i paid over $1000 for with a cheap blind AND on top of that made me pay for the motor for the blind- so they REFUSED to replace what they ruined with something equal. DONT EVER USE THEM. On top of that I paid $50 for a service call (same day they came to install the initial blind in my babys room, so they didnt even have to come out here separately), to fix my remote living room blind that wasnt going up properly. A month later it stopped working again, and they will NOT come out here to fix again even though i paid them $50 a month prior saying its not their responsibility. If you fixed it right the first time for the $50 fee then I wouldn't have had another problem! read more

STAY AWAY!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!! When we met Girts, the owner of Shades by Matiss, we were very impressed with his knowledge of shades and the remote control technology. (They work hand in hand with City Window Fashions for installations). The process of getting an initial quote and measurements was fairly smooth. We gave a deposit a few months before our project was scheduled to be installed. The project cost for a 3br + living room, motorized shades, and bedrooms with blackout shades was ~$8k - a great price compared to some traditional options like Hunter Douglas. I scheduled installation ~3 weeks in advance, and was expecting a 1 day installation process. According to Girts, they have a wealth of installation experience and is the recommended vendor in our apartment building, completing dozens of installations in our building including the model unit. I figured a 1 day installation would be no problem. NONE of this was the case. An installer showed up on the day of the installation at 1pm instead of 8am-9am like originally specified, and when I got home, only HALF of the shades were installed, with no call/email/note left to me to explain why. The blackout shades were not installed in our bedroom, making it impossible to sleep. When I e-mailed City Window Fashions to ask about the half-baked installation, and to see if someone could come back, they e-mailed me back saying completing the installation the next day would be "impossible". I called to complain, and they agreed to send someone back the next day to finish. The person who came to finish only showed up with HALF the remaining shades required because the first installation guy had a few of my shades in his personal possession (WHY would you let someone take a customer's property home with them?). And, the 2nd installation team ended up disappearing for the day without installing ANY incremental shades. Again with no explanation. After complaining again, City Window Fashions agreed to send someone back for a 3rd day to finish the job. The installation team showed up on this 3rd day after apparently re-creating the missing shades. It took them 4-5 hours to install 4 shades, because they brought the wrong bracket to install into the concrete ceiling. WHY would they make this mistake if they had any experience installing in our building, as they said they had? Watching them work, you'd think they have never done this before, which may indeed be the case. Thank god the shades are up (albeit with a gap of light between the blackout shades in the bedroom) but I am too exhausted with dealing with them to even go back and say anything. They patted themselves on the back for getting the job done in 3 days, when originally it was only supposed to take 1!! I then decided to google City Window Fashions (which I foolishly didn't do before), and saw that they have only 3 reviews on Yelp and all of them are 1 star. HOW does a very seasoned/experienced installer only have 3 reviews and all of them so poor? I should have been a smarter buyer. Hopefully I can encourage you to make a better decision, and hopefully another local company can match this attractive pricing. Shades by Matiss should consider partnering with a different company for their installations. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I hired them to put in new blinds throughout my house. The owner took down the wrong order for a drapery channel and refused to correct his mistake. I ended up having to accept a channel that was operating in the reverse direction of what I had wanted. His men came without replacement parts for a blind in one bedroom and told me that they had replaced the part when it was clear that the old broken one was still in place. One of the men was new and he didn't install the blinds in another bedroom correctly. The other experienced installer knew this, looked at his watch and said that they had to leave. I complained to the owner about all these issues but he was argumentative and opinionated and didn't do a thing to fix the mistakes. This has been the worst experience I have ever had and I'm never using them again. I went through this unfortunate experience almost seven years ago but it has stayed with me all this time. read more

I used City WIndows Fashions because I saw their sign on my way to work, and my neighbors have a business (Urban Consign and Design) in the same Warehouse building, so I thought I would give them a try. I am really glad I did. They were very accomodating, called to confirm my appointments and let me know when the installer was running late. I think this adds up to EXCELLENT customer service. The installer, Tibor was very polite and efficient, and it was easy to see that he knew exactly what he was doing (everything was perfect). If you are looking for quality window treatments and excellent service, then you should shop at City Window Fashions! read more

I've used this company twice for two separate rental properties in Manhattan and they were fantastic! Honest, solid product, great prices. They provided custom blinds for a condo and did all the window treatments in our Brownstone. Using them again for a Townhouse in Edgewater. Worst customer service EVER!!! Gave me a 2 hour window to install and showed up 2 hours late. After using the blinds 3 times the string broke and they wanted to charge me $5 to come out and fix it. I talked them out of the $5 b/c I had the blinds less than a week. They made an appointment to fix it and said I was 1st of the day at 9am. If there was a way for me to give more than 5 stars I would .. I recently purchased a home in Lodi and inquired about getting a quote for my whole house.. I called several companies who did not only schedule me weeks in advance but were trying to sell me services I was not interested in purchasing. I called City Window Fashions because a friend who had just used the company referred them. Not only was I impressed with their customer service who had someone give me a quote immediately.. I was also impressed on how nice and thoughtful they were ( I let them know the date of my house warming and let them know I was hoping to have everything done before hand) while that might be silly to other people/companies "city window fashion" understood where my frustration was coming from with other companies. I scheduled the installation date and was made aware that it will take a few hours due to the size of my house which I had no problem with.. I could not be happier with the job that city window fashion did ... the installation was seamless and they did everything within the time window that they gave me, I could not be happier with my choice! Are you feeling lucky? You pay a lower price for a reason; namely deplorable customer service. We bought black out shades from them for our NYC apartment based on a friend's recommendation. Two of the shades are fine. The third fell apart within 4 weeks; the chain snapped and the shade, itself, ripped after three times of pulling it all the way up . When we called the company, they ducked us for a week - the customer service rep was defensive the first time we spoke, asked us to send photos and then faded on us. She then was "out" the three times we tried to contact her again within 4 days, despite our leaving a message each time asking her to call us back. Finally, I wrote an email to the owner of the company. He responded immediately but suggested, from the pics we sent, that it was "clearly" user error causing the problems without explaining how we actually erred (not sure how you can make a mistake in using a shade?). He then asked for $150 to just come look at the shade. When I pushed back on paying $150, asking if they wouldn't stand behind their product by at least coming to look in person for free and telling him I would be forced to report them to the better business bureau if they wouldn't respond more reasonably, I was told he didn't "respond to threats". End of communication on his end. One of the worst customer service experiences I've had in 20 years in New York. You may pay less in getting the shades but this is a company that won't stand behind its product in any way - avoid the headache. read more
