I've been buying wine here for years. Prices are reasonable. I would love stopping by this beautiful, clean store. There's a lot of variety and the staff is good about providing good recommendations based on my tastes. Since COVID-19, I started using their free home delivery service. For my orders, I give them broad parameters (number of bottles, red/white/rose, and price plus varietals I don't want) and let them put the case together. For the prices alone, this is an awesome place to go. It's hard to get a decent wine store that doesn't completely rip you off. If you're a vivino user, their price tags are in line with the average prices on the app!! They have a great selection of each type of wine/sparkling wine as well as liquor. The place is also clean and well laid out with clear labels. There's also clear labels for organic and staff favorites (the staff favorites also have incentives to buy them! if you get 2 bottles it's 10% off, 3 bottles is a higher discount, etc) Love also that's open until midnight! read more

Very bad service. My bf and I came in and the guy behind the counter said ""i'm closing in 10 min"" we said cool we will be quick. Two min in ""did you hear I am closing soon"" we said ok yes we are done and we picked something - we should have just left at that moment but we brought a bottle up and the guy says ""you make me wait for THIS."" I guess a $22 bottle is not good in his eyes? With all the liquor places in NYC it's crazy this guy thinks he can throw attitude like that and still get business! My bf has a soccer club and he told the whole club do NOT shop there now. read more

Solid selection but weird interaction with the guy at the counter -- no acknowledgement when I walked in and said hi, looked around the store for a few minutes. I brought my bottle up and asked if he'd had it -- he mispronounced the commune name and said "oh it was good". Thrilling! Asked for a bag, he closed me out, said have a good night, I politely reminded him I'd asked for a bag and he looked at me like I'd shot him. "Oh I'm not done with the transaction." Well, usually when people say have a good night it's to end the conversation. Just annoying when I'm trying to have a human interaction with someone else in my industry and they can't be bothered to look up from their phone or do any base level parts of their job. read more

I was looking for some wines to bring to friend's party. I asked the bearded guy behind the counter for some suggestions. First I needed a red Spanish wine to make Sangria. He handed me a bottle of red from Chile, saying it was same as Spanish. I then asked for recommendations for a bottle of red and a bottle of white. He asked what price range and I told him less than $30, he then showed me a bottle of red and I asked if there are other wines he would suggest. He said "there's a thousand other wines I can suggest". I like to see more options, at least one more so I asked politely again if there is another one he could show me just so I could compare. The guy said "again there's a thousand other wines I can suggest". At that point, he simply walked over to a white couple few steps away to help them. I am Asian. I felt abandoned but continued to stay there hoping he would come back to finish the sale with me. He seemed more interested in helping that couple, explaining to them about the wine choices, etc. He never showed any interest in returning back to help me. After what felt like a few minutes, I got the message, put the Chile wine back to the shelf and left. I walked a few blocks to another wine store and ended up buying five bottles of wine there. Don't even bother going to City Wine, many other wine stores have better selections and far better service. read more

I live a block away so gave them a try. Nice enough store but they wouldn't let me charge a bottle of wine on a credit card because it didn't meet their minimum. No discussion except to let me know that it's legal. (PS: don't care...) Luckily I have two other wine stores within a few blocks. Would go back if they reconsider the policy - it's a bit ridiculous. read more

City Wine Gallery used to just be a small store in the middle of a block, but it recently expanded to include the northwest corner of 60th and 2nd. Their main focus is on wines sorted clearly on the shelves by country/region, but there are some liquors sold as well. The wines in the center of the store have red stickers on them. Those are staff picks, priced between $6-$20, and the purchase of two red-stickered items gets you 10% off! Being staff picks, they include a short label with descriptions of the flavor and the types of food they'd go well with. While the staff members are always happy to help (and maybe a bit too eagerly), it's nice to be able to purchase something quickly knowing it'll be a delicious choice. Some of the wines are also labeled with a green sticker (organic). Likelihood of another visit: Wine is such a great housewarming gift, so I'll be back. Also, they currently stock many bottles of Underwood Pinot Noir from Union Wine Co. (Oregon). I know I'll be heading there and picking up a bottle or two for the House of Cards marathon in late February. read more

I felt an update to my last review was appropriate, as I've continued to shop here and have gotten somewhat acquainted with the staff. The selection is always impressive and reasonable in price, given the area that the store is located in. They are open late, which is a huge plus for me. They have wines to suit any budget. They also deliver. Their liquor selection is also impressive. I gave up vodka awhile ago, but they carry some of my favorites that I had a somewhat difficult time finding during my vodka days, such as Absolut Ruby Red. The staff is really why I come in here. They are inviting and accommodating. When I'm in the mood to try something new, they're happy to offer honest suggestions tailored to my budget. What I really, truly appreciate about this store is that they ordered a case of my favorite wine at my request - the Louis Jadot Steel Chardonnay, only available in limited quantities. I had been trying to get my hands on this particular wine for months, and they were able to get it. This made me the happiest person on planet earth when I first found out. They also have a rewards program, which I forgot to mention in my previous review. I've gotten a lot of discounts via my frequent patronage, so if you're going to visit regularly, do sign up. read more

Since this place is literally around the corner from my apartment, I go there often. The staff is so friendly and the selection is great. They also have red sticker specials where if you buy 2 bottles, you get 10% off. They also have a frequent buyers club which keeps track of how much you've spent and after a certain dollar amount you get a free bottle. The space is small, but they're expanding into the old Tramway Diner space next door in the next couple of weeks! read more

Living right across the street from this shop, I frequent it often for last-minute housewarming gifts. The shop is squarish rectangular in shape and is quite small compared to many other wine shops. However, the staff members here are very helpful in making selections, and their choices have not yet disappointed me. Once you tell them your price range, they direct you to a number of options. Furthermore, they do chill a variety of sparkling wines if you're into those like I am, and depending on when you go in for the purchases, they have very good sales on these items. read more

When somebody calls and asks for a specific dollar range( which was ($13-$15, not that cheap) and they tell me that that's "extremely limited" with a sassy ass attitude (he was male) the worst is that they will not give any educational or appropriate suggestions-writing is on the wall. This place is so amazing!!! I went in to check in to check out the prices one day and to get a bottle of wine and to my surprise there prices were very reasonable,and also have a great selection ,upon buying a bottle of wine this superfriendly super cute employee name Daniel came and suggested me a bottle of wine and it wahs amazing. I went back a couple of times and the rest of the staff is also very cool and I love the fact that they give you a very personal opinion about the different kinds of items sold there. whole shopping experience felt racist. let me start by explaining, i am black. i went in to buy a bottle of wine. The guy working asked the only other patron, a white woman, how he could help her. after he helped her he made pleasant small talk. i was still shopping. i couldn't find the type of wine i was looking for, so i asked him for help, since he hadn't offered. this type of wine is generally served chilled so i asked if he had any cold and he said "no but luckily it's cold outside so if you walk fast...." in a not friendly tone. i ended up buying 3 bottles of wine. the worker put them in a flimsy paper bag. i lifted it and felt the twine handle already begin to strain. i asked (politely! apologetically!) if i could have a second bag, since i had to take these on the train. he said "these bags are made of to carry 3 bottles but you can have another if you want...." i said thanks and he said nothing until i left the store. the whole thing was so markedly different than how he treated the white woman thats it's hard not to feel as if it was a racist encounter. save your money and spend it somewhere not icky. read more

City wine has a beautiful selection to choose from. I'm a wine girl myself and Danny was so helpful in helping me out. I love trying new wines but can be a bit indecisive and he was patient and sweet. I can definitely say the staff knows their stuff. This is a great, user-friend wine shop. Their helpful, knowledgable staff are always willing to order a special wine or spirit and they never fail to follow-up with the request. I am a big fan of Carlos I Brandy but I know how hard it is to find in New York City. I requested a bottle of this wonderful Brandy and 5 days later, City Wine called to say that they stocked it with five bottles!
