I placed an order for pickup of a bottle of rum with 48 hours of notice. Item was out of stock, but next to no effort was made to notify me of this before I came to pick up. They claimed they called me, though any supposedly missed call is conspicuously absent from my phone's logs. And they did not bother to leave a message or follow up with email. An item being out of stock happens, but the absolutely laziness in not bothering to follow up or help ahead of time with any communication is not okay. read more

I have just moved up here almost a year ago and this store is the rudest most prejudiced staff I have had the displeasure of going to . I do not understand why the staff thinks they have the right to treat anyone with the ultimate disrespect that I have experienced each time I have gone in .. I would not ever go there again and would tell anyone not to .. a customer should be treated with respect not contempt. What has happened to this place since I was last there about six months ago? The service is now minimal and surly. A couple of the old sales people have been replaced with people, who seem neither knowledgeable nor interested in being helpful. While you wait, they are on the phone "helping a customer". The red wines are mostly on the second floor. There is no elevator option to avoid climbing up the steep stairs. Reusable bags are 50-cents a piece, and they have no less expensive options. With savvy competitors within a five block radius, I won't be back. read more

All the stars are pretty much thanks to selection and one employee -- Jerry! I live down the block and this is my local shop. The woman who usually works at the register can't be bothered most of the time but Jerry saves the day. He's so helpful and always friendly. The selection and prices are fair too. They would not honor a purchase made online for pickup. They had a promotion online, the "whispering Angel rose," and it worked when I paid. When I went to pick it up, they yelled at me and lectured me. They argued the promotion was worded incorrectly, but that's their mistake, not mine. They refused to fulfill the order, and I'm not sure they will refund me. Never going again because of incompetence and rudeness. read more

I've been in a few times. The staff isn't helpful and usually just chats among themselves. But they have a decent selection of high and low. The last time I went in, I asked for a sparkling rose by a certain brand and the employee told me that brand didn't make it. That was untrue because I've had it before, they just didn't carry it. This is a pretty solid place. We visited here because we heard they have lower prices compared to other shops in the neighborhood. For what we purchased (Tito's vodka) it is true. They do seem to do a lot of business as they had three cashiers open and ready to go. I definitely want to return and check out their wine selection. read more

The store is accessible by the 1 train and several bus lines. Their staff are knowledgeable and helpful. On my most recent trip I found Pommery Rose' Champagne and Cristom Pinot Noir. The store has a good selection of glassware as well. I will be back in another year. read more

I really don't get why this place is 3 1/2 stars. It actually makes me upset. It really deserves to be five stars. Everything about this place was great. The only thing that was a little bit tough was the fact that we had trouble going in and out of this place because it was pretty packed and the place is small. But other than that it was awesome. It was also the day of New Year's Eve. So I am not so upset. The workers there is so knowledgeable and the prices for the bottles of wine are pretty great. Make sure you join they're worthless. You will probably get discounts based off of how much to buy. Also check out the upstairs as well. There is a wine and champagne for everyone. I stopped by this shop because I was in the area, looking to buy a bottle or two to bring to a BYOB restaurant nearby. The wine shop itself has two floors. The downstairs has the white wines and the upstairs has reds. Both floors are divided by region and contain a decent selection of both old world and new world wines from various regions in the world. While I didn't find everything I was looking for (some more Rhone whites would have been amazing), there was a large enough selection that we had more than enough options. The service was pretty helpful on the red floor but got busier downstairs. It was easy enough to find what I was looking for and I walked out with two bottles to pair with spicy curry. The female staff in the second floor is very rude and not pleasant at all. Moreover, instead of helping to pick a wine they looked at me as if I were going to steal a bottle. Horrible attitude! I definitely felt discriminated against for my ethnicity. The customer service for people who are not white at this establishment is completely and utterly baffling. They almost seem to go out of their way not to assist anyone who is not white, pretty, and dressed in business attire. Even with two managers on duty and behind the registers, I still was made to wait, though I was the only person in line, and was reluctantly assisted when they knew that they could no longer make me wait. The selection of wines from South America is quite poor, and their inventory system seems to be askew. When I called and asked for a specific product they confirmed they had it, but when it came time to purchase it in person, not 10 minutes after the call I was told the product wasn't available. Needless to say I will not be frequenting this establishment again, and urge you not to as well. read more

I acknowledge that their prices are competitive. They have been in business since the 1940s and own their building. But the service is downright surly; plain unfriendly. I will disclose that I have lived right down the street for over 20 years. I only returned to the store during Covid and the staff steadily remined over the next six months me why I try to avoid this place and stopped shopping there 10 years ago. The attitude stems from the very top; perhaps the third generation owner. How would you like to be denied a purchase because a senior manager says, " I'm sorry but that is our last bottle of Silver Oak and that is reserved for another customer." One may respect them for not opening on Sundays. Is it respect for their employees? I doubt it. Its more like a stick in the eye to their customers. read more

I've been searching midtown west for that without any luck and decided to try walking further north. Somehow they had it on their bottom self. My husband is obsessed with this place and i have admit it's pretty great. really helpful staff and a massive selection of wines and liquors. My husband was on the hunt for Georigan wine after a trip to the country and they had it in stock, which was unusual in general, but also their staff recommended a really great bottle. Also a MUCH larger selection of sparkling wines and champagnes then i've seen in any other store. Worth a trip a few blocks out of your way if you're looking to buy some bottles your local store might not have or want something special. read more

I usually wouldn't even think of reviewing a wine store. But I've been on the hunt for 2 very specific wines and this place had both! Blame it on my dad but I am a bit of a wine snob. I've toured wineries, done dozens of wine tastings, and have developed a particular taste for certain wines. I've been looking for the Chook sparkling Shiraz from Australia for a while since I don't want to keep dropping $40 for a bottle at Casellula. Didn't have any luck 'til now. I also wanted to find the late harvest Zinfandel dessert wine from Dashe winery in California. And they had it also!! So so thrilled! The staff were also all very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I'll definitely be hitting them up for my future wine hunts. read more
