Interesting selection of wine. Priced reasonably. But, the lack of service was stunning. We went twice in 10 days. Sure we looked like bedraggled tourists but both of us took wine tastings classes and traveled in France wine tasting down the Cote D'Or and Cotes de Beaune Neither time did the man with the balding hair help. His African-American cashier was cordial enough asking if we had an account. We bought a white and a red and a sparkling. The second time I wanted to see if service was a one-off. It wasn't. I picked up a red. The people at 54th Street wine- actually on 55th Street were so much more friendly. read more

Good to great selection of wines at reasonable prices- for NYC. Nice to have a local shop catering to the community. I don't recall the clerks being knowledgeable about the wines but there is a wide enough selection that you should be fine on your own. read more

I love this liquor store...#1 in Hell's Kitchen without a doubt! First off, the prices are totally fair for the area. The store itself is bright, kept clean & super organized. They carry an array of wine (for every price range) and liquors plus I love that they have individual cans of wine and some cocktails in a can. This makes it a great spot to stop at on your way to Central Park for a picnic because you can snag some of the canned bevs to avoid bringing glass on the lawn or Sheep Meadow. Another plus, is that the owner is usually in the store and is very nice and knowledgeable about what he sells. I haven't tried there delivery service yet but free delivery for orders of $10 or more is unbeatable (plus so convenient!). If you're in need of a wine shop / liquor store in Hell's Kitchen this is definitely the place to go! read more

Google says the store is open; lights in the store are on at 12:15pm on Thursday, 12/22. Guy in the back (on the phone) disappears, so we ring the bell. No answer. Start knocking on the window, guy hand-gestures that they're closed, goes in the office and closes the door, hiding from us - like a man-child. This guy sure puts the Hell, in Hells kitchen. You can't behave like that when there's 3 other liquor stores around yours, and expect to survive in this climate. Bye guy. read more

I always find everything I need when I come here. Found the 1.75 liter Patron. Found the Barefoot sparkling moscato my friend wanted. Found the Barefoot Reisling (which was great by the way). They have a HUGE selection of wines, liquors, sake, and even tastings all the time! I love how I can always find a type of wine for any occasion here. read more

Unfortunately I was offended by the delivery man this evening. He asked if I was drunk because I question about how long it took him to deliver two bottles of wine. 45 minutes and we live two blocks away from the store. We are always super friendly and tip over 20%. The store has not been the same since my friend Roger left and our very dear friend Kenny stopped delivering to us. Let me break this down for you. This is the cheapest place in midtown to get liquor. Period. You'll save yourself 10-15% on anything from bourbon to vodka, compared to any other store in a 20 block radius... I'm willing to bet on that. Not to mention a mighty fine selection, large store, and a staff who is well versed in their own stock. The closest thing to BevMo in the city. And they're open until 10 pm. I found myself in an awkward situation (not uncommon) back in August. I was unable to attend a Bachelorette party for a good friend who lives in NYC because I was headed out of the country - AND - I had forgotten to order some champagne to send to her apt for the party - EEK! Panic began to set in as they started calling for us to board our flight. I frantically started searching on Yelp for options ... I called up this shop and they were SUPER helpful! The woman who answered not only chatted me through the options of bubbly, but also wrapped up the bottles, and had them delivered to my friend's apartment - all within a 1/2 hr of my call! Unbelievable, and she made me look like a rock-star. Minimal effort for maximum results - OK by me! I will use them again if I find myself in a similar situation in the future. I hope to actually go in and say "Thank You" on my next trip to the City. read more

Great store with decent prices. I walked in one day and thought the owner was very helpful. The shop also offers delivery, which I initially though was awesome. When some friends dropped by unexpectedly, I called the store to get a bottle of liquor delivered and the delivery guy had a handheld device to swipe my card. To my surprise, in a couple days I got a call from my bank confirming an online purchase in Europe. Since I normally don't use that particular credit card, someone at 54 Wine & Spirits store stole my credit card information. Would I go back to this store? Not sure, but if I do, its because of the prices. But next time I'm going to pay cash. read more

i love this place! such a great alternative to the incredibly limited and overpriced ninth ave wine store. it's rather large and has a great selection. it also has the cheapest prices i've found in the city on my favorite wines, especially the recession friendly chilean FRONTERA, which i've seen for 9.99, 10.99, and even 11.99 - but only 8.99 here, for a 1.5 liter! yay! it also has a lovely selection of liquor. it even had the special edition bottle of maker's mark (with red white and blue wax) that's been going for upwards of $60 on eBay. the people here are super friendly and will deliver for free up until 9pm. gotta love that! read more

The best liquor and wine store in Hells Kitchen by far! The owner is super nice and knowledgeable. They also have a great selection of wines across all price ranges and their liquor prices are better than most in the area. I have 2 liquor stores closer to my apartment that I walk by to get to 54 Wine & Spirits. Their prices are barely higher than Warehouse Liquors which is known for being the cheapest in Manhattan. I've never had someone try to up-sell me anything- in fact Roger recommended a cheaper bottle of vodka than what I was planning on purchasing because it tasted better- he was spot on. As another reviewer said, the name is misleading because they are actually located on 55th street. read more

Roger is the man. I went in before closing to pick up some party supplies. I told Roger what I like, and he immediately had some great recommendations! He is very knowledgeable and friendly. You also can't beat free delivery ($10 minimum). I was also impressed by his selection of New Zealand wines. I am going to miss this store the most! I hope to find a liquor store in SF just as clean, friendly and inviting. The selection is the best in the neighborhood, pricing is cheaper than most, and the owners work there...they are nice and really helpful. Another bonus is that the owners just really, really seem like they like their lives so it makes you happier to talk to them. They also know A LOT about their products. I can go on and on about how great this place is. But it would sum it up by my experience there...I asked about 2 different kinds of liquor, and one was clearly more expensive than the other one...and the owner was super honest and just told me that the less expensive one would do just fine. A nice little shop. While the selection is average at best, their pricing for such a small shop is actually pretty impressive. I was happy to find 1.5 L bottles of Lindemans for $10.99. Also, the people working there were extremely nice and were helpful in their recommendations. Their prices on liquor and other wines were average. This store is five stars all the way. Their delivery guy must have a very fast bike because he always shows up within 10 minutes - and I live over on 6th Ave. The owner is great at recommending good bottles within your range - just give him a dollar amount and the varietals and he will work within what you want to spend. The one time there was a mistake (chardonnay instead of sauvignon blanc) he fixed it right away by sending the guy back with the correct order. Pretty small shop. Not a great selection, but it's close to me so it's where I go when I want a decent $10-$15 bottle. Mostly mass produced labels, so this is not the place to go when you're looking for that special bottle. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the liquor. In hells kitchen things are generally over priced and assistance always comes with an attitude of "cant be bothered" or a complete lack of knowledge about any product that is being sold. With that being said...This is Mecca! Its an Oasis! Roger, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and honest. He always ask, "how much?" first, and works with in your price range and taste. This man knows his wine and spirits! Infact, when I was taking my wine class all I did was tell him what region I was learning that week, let him know my price range and he would wrap up my wines so I could blind taste at home. I first went to Roger's store and he was knowledgeable and helpful. I ended up buying almost a dozen bottles of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir's. I was surprised to find out that his delivery guy had delivered within 10 minutes of my ordering the wine. I called again today and he seemed most uninterested. He said that he did not deliver to my address and that there was a another store closer to me. If I wanted the other store, I would have called them. I am not knocking his knowledge or his products but his attitude sucked. He seemed like he had enough business and could not be bothered with more. Strange considering he had already delivered to my place before. Maybe this is an aberration so I will try one more time. read more
