Elrich's is a solid wine and liquor store in the UWS if Manhattan. I frequently stop in, as I have friends who live across the street from this place who host a weekly dinner that I sometimes attend. So, whenever they invite me over, I always stop in Ehlrich's to grab a bottle of wine to bring. At first I wasn't so sold on this place since their prices are a bit on the high side and their selection isn't huge--but when you consider location, both of those conditions make sense. There a few large stores in the area, and I'm sure rent is super high. Final note: The staff are always super helpful and are super friendly! read more

I typed in Google as "Liquor store near me" the first thing that popped up on the list was Ehrlich's so last night I stopped by to get a wine. I dont know if the worker understand what I said. I asked if he had an wine that's bitter. He replied to my answer sorry no I dont have it. So instead he recommended me to try semi sweet wine. I haven't tried the wine yet but soon I will. I was gonna look around the store to see if they had korean liquor as well but I was running out of time so I just took quick look and came out of the store so couldn't take lots of pictures :( If you LOOK YOUNG! At the front register will ask for an ID! He looked at me and asked for an ID! Idk why this place has 2 & half star but I think they deserve more than that. I like researching the best places to buy liquor, who has what, where I can find Hibiki, the best prices on Macallan and Glenfiddich...etc. etc.. I only walked into this particular space because I had walked out of Beacon Wine and Spirits after picking up some Wine and I was looking for the new Johnnie Walker White Walker Game of Thrones themed bottles. I got an odd answer from the owner at Beacon and I got a stranger answer from the gentlemen in this establishment. He stated they are ordering them and that they will have bottles this week...He then went on an overture regarding how expensive it will be. I told him...no, those bottles will be averaging between $30-$40 retail price. He told me in a loud boisterous voice---he was a large portly man---Go check the black label bottle, whatever we have that for is the price we're selling that bottle for...Their black label price is $99...we're talking about a 750ml bottle that was on the shelf...That is not the value of Johnnie Walker Black Label... For reference, Total Wine has Black Label 750ml for $29.09, 1L for $53.99, 1.75L $59.09...so either he meant $30 and didn't realize it was thirty and their black label was mislabeled...or he knew it was overpriced and expects to gouge people like myself for a novelty. I am discovering there are various establishments in the Upper East Side who think the more affluent residents of this neighborhood are happy to pay more money because of reasons...We're not. Ehrlich Wines & Spirits - Spied a heavily priced Angel's Envy...$99.99? O_o - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - New York, New York

I am from Jersey. This is evidenced by how many times I mention that in my reviews, especially from pizza and chain restaurants. Anyway, one things that shocked me was the liquor stores in New York. I think it's a state law but I think it's odd that one can get beer and malt beverages in a drug store, but can't get it at a "liquor store." Huh. Anyway, it was culture shocky to me, but I had to realize that if I wanted alcohol or wine, I had to do it at a liquor store (beer was a different story). Ehrlich's is a hole in the wall on the crappiest corner of the UWS. And I love every inch of it. It's another overpriced liquor store but you will be pleased with the selection there. I especially like that they focus on the "liquor" part of the liquor store and not just wine. I've recently started to mixing my own drinks at home b/c I'm sick of beer, so this place has been helpful. Bacchus, a wine store that was literally across from Broadway, has recently shut down. It seems like Bacchus has poached some of their workers. Now I would never confuse the two, since Bacchus was a higher-end type of place, but they've started to introduce "pours" and wine tastings at this establishment. I always liked Bacchus but now Ehrlich's gives me a more compelling reason to visit. During the hurricane Irene prep, this place was NEVER EVER busy. And they had premade hurricanes (SoCo) and white Russians (Kahlua) for Big Lebowski night. Of course, they told me they didn't carry it -- but they have so much supply that I think they don't even know what they have! (they also didn't have the hurricanes on display but the guy knew what I was looking for). All in all, I love this place. It's my fave liquor store in the neighborhood. And being the hood drunk, I approve of this message. read more

$29.99 for the small size bottle of Malibu? I think not. In what world is a tiny bottle of Malibu worth $29.99? Saw the prices and walked right out. I might as well go down to 54th and 10th and get a bottle for at least $10 cheaper for a bigger bottle. I'm not one to skimp on alcohol - I'm willing to pay if I'm paying for top notch. They had a nice wine tasting when I walked in yesterday. The person who served us wine was informative and not too pushy. In the back of the store, I was struggling to choose a wine, and - I believe it was the manager - came over and asked if we wanted help. I gave him some specs - price and type of wine - and he picked one out that people at the party liked. Prices were nothing to write home about, and the space was a little crowded (hard to pass by people), but otherwise my experience wasn't too shabby. read more

After being closed due to a water main break, they are back open! And back in stock with one of my favorite wines, a steal at only $15! They've cleaned up the store a bit, but they still have a feel of a slightly divey neighborhood wine shop. What they lack in a classy atmosphere they make up for with being open late and delivering, and having a good selection of cold wines and bubbles in all price ranges. They often have wine tastings and offered discounts on tasted wines as well as bottles bought by the case and half case. read more

I'm not a big drinker but I stopped in for a bottle of wine. Nice selection of of all different wines and liquors. A big plus for me was that the salespeople were not pushy at all and let me browse the store before I decided on what I wanted. Prices weren't too bad either. This place is convenient but I REALLY hate that they ask my ID all the time even I go there usually 3 times a week and they recognize me. I was down in NYC in december for a weekend shopping trip with my girlfriends. Oh course we needed a little vino for out cozie envening in our hotel room and stumbled (Pun intended) accross this really cool liquor store. The sales girls were super friendly and gave a us a taste of some of the wines they had on special. We were also looking to bring back some liquor to Canada with us and they were most informative on a variety of different spirits. The icing on the cake was when I mentioned how I loved the wooden wine boxes they used in there display and the friendly sales lady offered me a few to take home with me. I consider those the coolest buy of the whole trip. I loved my experience at Ehrlich's. I look forward to going there again next time in down. read more

Ehrlich's saved my life when I forgot that I needed to buy my boss a Christmas present. I walked in literally at 10:59pm on a Thursday night. They were already closing the gates but saw my desparation and quickly helped me find what I needed. I asked for a bottle of red and a bottle of white, totalling $30 - they found two very nice bottles for me and when I only had $29 in cash, they sent me on my way with the bottles in hand anyway. read more

I recently moved to the neighborhood and decided to give this shop a try as it's conveniently located on my block. A frequent wine drinker and currently taking courses for wine certification, I had high hopes for the shop and fantasized becoming a regular and friends with the proprietor, even before setting foot in the shop. Unfortunately, this shop disappointed in every way possible and I will never spend another cent there. After going home with the first bottle (traditional cork) I purchased and discovering it was flawed (read: brown and dank smelling), I returned to the shop. One of the workers kindly allowed me to switch out for a new bottle. I chose another wine altogether thinking that there might have been a freak problem with the whole case. After returning home and opening the second wine (synthetic cork) to find it flawed as well, I knew something was off about this place. I finally returned for a third time to ask for a refund. The owner, who had sampled the two flawed wines and agreed that they were out-of-condition, refused to give me a refund because I had already opened two bottles of wine and returned them. After giving him a puzzled look and indicating that I didn't see how him selling bad wine was my fault, he opened a third bottle. Insisting I would love the wine, I put my lips to the glass and tasted one of the worst wines I have ever tasted in my life. Finally I told him that I would take the wine, which was a cheaper bottle (no difference was offered), because it wasn't flawed, but I told him I was very unhappy and didn't like the wine. He shrugged and told me that with my wine knowledge I should know to always buy wine from the front of a wine shop because it's fresher there. I went home and tried to drink the wine, but it was so bad I just poured the whole bottle down the drain. I think it's also important to note that throughout the three visits the shop was filled with drunks who were allowed to cause commotion, yell at and accost customers. One woman was so drunk she had to have help closing her bag of freshly purchased booze, and then proceeded to get stuck in between the door on her way out. I do not recommend Ehrlich Wines & Spirits to anyone. Although, all isn't lost-I've recently found some other great shops in the neighborhood who will be seeing my smiling face on a very regular basis. read more

This place is a non-starter for wine. There are three high end wine stores (acker merrill, beacon and 67st wine) within three blocks of Ehrlich which are cheaper and offer a much better selection. Unfortunately the problems don't end with price and selection.... My experience with Ehrlichs has been that 3 out of 5 bottles of wine I purchased here have been bad; Bad, corked or cooked - take your choice of terminology. When I last tried to return a bad bottle of wine the manager became visibly upset and verbally abusive and I left to avoid a scene. I no longer shop at this store. There is one upside; they stay open late. So if you need a bottle of hard liquor (i.e a drink that can't be spoiled through poor storage) at 10:45PM then this is your store. Just be careful you don't stand on any of the mice which scurry around the floor late at night. read more

Prices are ridiculous, and they don't carry anything but the usual suspects, the Scotch selection notwithstanding. The fact that they regularly mail out coupons is a saving grace, but at best those will just knock the prices down to the same level as other wine shops nearby. Sole exception is that their prices on rose wine are for some reason quite good - so if you're nearby and rose sounds good, I guess that's your one reason to visit. read more

I was glad to find this place after getting off work late after a terrible day and needed a good bottle of wine to relax. It is right of the 72nd street stop so on my way home from the train. They have a lot of selections and it really is a corner, hole in the wall. The guy who worked there helped me and was very nice and even had some good wine knowledge. Their hard liquor was missing a few selections that I was able to find in other places. Pricing is a little more than other places, but their operating hours are good and not too early in closing. No complaints, good and helpful staff-- very nice. I don't mind paying an extra buck for good service. read more

We shop here way too much. We have a ton of wine shops to choose from but choose to shop here. Chris is great! Samples all the wine himself and knows his stuff. We typically like to stay inside $10 (yep - we think there is greatness under $10) and Chris never disappoints. Some great staff there - some pretty stiff - but attribute this to any business. We like the selection - the price - the options. The champagne/bubbly fridge could use some organizing - you really need to search for your favorite and locations of that bottle you often buy moves around a bit. All that said though - I love this place and so does my bride. We feel very welcome and looking at our Ehrlich's bill each month - it's obvious we like it! Great price - great value - great staff - great business!! Oh, and don't forget the 10% discount for a volume buy of 6 or more! read more

If you're just an alcoholic looking to get your fix for the night this place will not disappoint. If you want actual wine and to be treated like a paying customer, look elsewhere. I've been here several times now, and have twice now gotten dud bottles (where the wine had been mishandled and actually turned to vinegar). They are completely unapologetic and unhelpful. Don't trust this liquor store. I ordered wine for an event and tried to return unopened bottles. When I talked to the manager, he "claimed" that it is against the law to return alcohol. In fact, it's NOT. It is certainly up to the discretion of the store, but that's not what he claimed. He lied. I called him back - and then he said well it's not their policy to take returns. Not a bad store, and it seems as though they've tried to get better products recently. However, they claim to be open until midnight, and I'll often walk by anytime between 10pm and 11:30pm after work and find the shutters already down and the store closed. You only have one chance to make a first impression. Was considering two whites today. The person I asked there had tried one of the two and vouched for it. I bought it. The wine was off/past prime, had that dark yellow color, and had more or less turned into vinegar. Nasty all around! Even though it was closed for a month and a half, they are still one of the more expensive stores in the neighborhood. The big bottle of mondavi chardonnay they have for 16.99 goes for 14.99 at Beacon and 12.99 at 67 on Columbus. I pointed this out to the owner. Rather than offering me the lower price, he said he would look into it. I won't be back soon if ever. read more
