The room I was in for the actual procedure had at least eight beds in it, all separated by cloth curtains. There were both men and women patients, and the doctor and the nursing staff were running in between patients for their procedures and for their recoveries. I was required to undress completely while separated only by cloth from the next (male) patients on either side, probably a maximum of 6 feet away. We could hear everything from each other's anesthesia instructions, to the results of the test, to the follow up instructions about recovery and passing gas. It was really an unacceptable lack of privacy. I felt like I was in a cattle corral. I've been a Westmed patient for many years. I've had several colonoscopies and I've never been in a public area like that during the procedure. I am 76 years old, female, and I'm increasingly appalled at the corporatization of the care there. Summit management should be ashamed and should reconsider their lack of concern for patients since their takeover of Westmed. There is so little regard for a patient's dignity or privacy when everything is sped up and organized to maximize quantity and profit. I'll be going somewhere else for my next colonoscopy.
