D.C. City tours did a great job.. very friendly and helpful. Never had to wait to long at stops, so even with all the traffic in DC they seemed to stay on time... My only complaint was there was no tour guide on the yellow and purple loop and was not told that would be. We had to ask our first time on the loop. read more

Worst tour ever! I wish I saw all these yelp reviews. If there was a ZERO i would give them that. They do not even deserve a 1-star. 1. We booked a ticket through the City-Sightseeing Washington DC site then we found out after that this was served by CitySightsDC 2. The CitySightsDC counter did not honor the free night tour and free harbor cruise stated in the City-Sightseeing Site for the 24-hour ticket. The counter person claimed that the free night tour and harbor cruise is only for the 48 hour ticket. (They were not empathetic at all to our situation!) 3. The CitySightsDC counter asked us for a print out of the ticket even if it clearly said on the ticket that "SIMPLY SHOW YOUR VOUCHER ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE OR BRING A PRINTED COPY" So we had to go down and wasted nearly one hour to find a place to print for us 4. They do not clearly explain the stops. They just go "is anyone going down here?" and if no one answers they skip the stop. They do not even mention the stop number. So we missed our stop. 5. Trying to get back on board the bus is so hard. First of all they are the only one that does not have a sign at the bus stops. Also their buses come once in 30 minutes (but usually much later) We were waiting at a stop and the other Hop-On-Hop-Off companies already had a couple of busses that passed through. We wasted most of our time just waiting at the bus stop. 6. In the Lincoln Memorial they claimed that there would be another bus 30 minutes after we got dropped off. But I guess they didn't bother to send any other busses so we had to walk quite far to get a Lyft cab. Overall, it was the worst hop-on-hop-off experience I have had. A total waste of money. Counter staff is not friendly at all. The only good thing was the tour guide on board seemed to be helpful. But he wasn't able to save the horrible experience. read more

The worst hop on hop off tour I have ever been on. The first tour guide was good, witty and informative. When we hopped of a the Jefferson monument the hopped on the next "Red Bus" the new guide was next to useless plus the sound kept cutting in and out. At the Lincoln Memorial we changed for the Purple line to go via the Pentagon and Memorial Ave. No guide or commentary for this leg so it was a total waste of time. We then tried to swap to the Yellow line and the bus never turned up, even after I rang the company and was assured it would be there within 7 to 10 mins. We gave up after that. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. I bought a 48-hr ticket so I could get on & off wherever I wanted to. Their map showed stops at all the highlight spots through DC and Georgetown. The first bus I took had no live tour guide. They gave us headphones and said listen to channel 2. It was mostly jazz music with a little bit of generic information near each stop. Except it was off. It said we were looking at the Smithsonian castle 3 blocks before we got there. Said twice we were looking at the Boy Scout monument, which we never actually saw. The 2nd bus I got on was more of the same. Their routes are decent with good stopping points, but they don't run often. The red route runs every 30 min, which is good. The purple, every hour, and yellow every 2 hours. I could never catch a yellow and ended up taking taxis to and from Georgetown. I waited for the 6:30 night tour, which left at 6:45. They only had 1 bus, and I was the next in line after it was filled. The rest of us had to wait another 20-30 min for another bus. There was an actual guide on this one who gave some decent information. The bus made a 30 min stop where there wasn't really anything. From there I walked 20 min to Lincoln and took a taxi from there. If you want one of those great city tours where you learn a out of history, thus is NOT it. The burgundy DCBus and red/blue Metro Buses were everywhere. Pick one of those. read more

The actual bus ride and guide were pretty good, but it was hard to enjoy after dealing with their ticketing agent and staff, who apparently got the job through some program and could CARELESS about being there. We walked up with our paperwork and reservation, after taking two subway trains and enduring 97 degree heat, to be treated by the rudest ticket agent I've ever met. We had our paid receipt and confirmation number, but not the bar code, because City Sights sent it out late (two days late via email). The ticketing agent told us there was nothing we could do and we were out of luck. Typically, someone may infer you're stupid, but this woman actually called us stupid because we didn't have the code (HER) company neglected to get us on time. After 20 minutes of arguing and making calls to the City Sights office, she simply printed our tickets. Apparently, she liked giving people a hard time for her own enjoyment, since she had the ability to correct the problem by simply checking our confirmation number. Unbelievable......what was even more unbelievable was another family, from Australia, dealing with the same rude woman. She flat out refused to help hem too. The ticket agent kept telling them they needed to call City Sights ( who wasn't answering their phones). The Austrailians were trying to explain it was costing them a fortune to use their phones out of country. Once she issued the tickets, we got in line, only to find out she had issues us the wrong type. The lady taking the tickets at the bus, was just as rude. She KNEW what we had just gone through, yet put us through it again. She calls the ticket agent and is treated just as rudely by her own coworker as we were. Talking with other employees revealed that the ticket agent has always been this way, yet City Sights has done nothing to improve the situation. For me, I'll never do business with any of their tour companies again, As far as I'm concerned, any company that continues to allow an employee to act this way, could careless about the customer. I rarely take the time to write a review, but felt it was imperative to warn others about the service we received. I wrote to the company and told them I would hold off on my Yelp review if they would at least have the courtesy to respond and address the situation......guess what, no response! read more

She doesn't speak English but since the tours offer a variety of languages, we decided to hop on at Union Station. Biggest mistake. First, our tour guide had no idea why the flags were at half mast. Mind you, it's 9/11/2015. Second, we are approaching stop 8 and so far the only Spanish we've heard is TWO SENTENCES at the Capitol. Terrible customer service; we waited for a bus to come by at one of their bus stops and instead of stopping the bus driver opened the door while moving and expected me and my family to run into traffic to get on the bus. After we tried to wait for the bus to stop it just kept going then closed the door and drove off. We called the customer service line while by the way is a joke and seems like a scam. We could not get ahold of anyone and left numerous messages, what really upsets me is that I was considering using their competitor called Big Bus Tour (www.bigbustours.com) which if anyone comes where I would recommend using. Stay away from this company. They are out of business, apparently, but still sell tickets online that the Big Bus Hop on Hop off company honors. Their list of stops is wrong as my party found out a few weeks ago. We finally asked someone and they said to use the Big Bus stop. Purchased a night "tour" for two on Groupon so it was affordable and they do take you to good monuments but there was no actual guidance. The lady leading the "tour" didn't seem to know much about the monuments or the history. She made a few comments that were inaccurate and/or irrelevant. This is my first review post but I thought it might be helpful for others. We purchased a 48 hour pass. The first day with James was awesome. We did both a day & night tour. We began our hop on to the National Cathedral. It was convenient to get on & off. We got off at Union Station to have dinner and wait for the night tour. Again, James was funny, patient and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed the night tour. Day two we attempted to go to the National Zoo. At the transfer site we were informed one of the buses was out of commission. The next "Yellow" line bus would arrive in 20 minutes. At 45 minutes later and after another "Red" line bus passed by, we were informed that it was unlikely we could take the Yellow-line back in time. We got back on the Red line after an hour. It was unfortunate and time wasted and lost during a limited visit to D.C. read more

I ordered a 24 hour Groupon deal for this Hop on/Hop off bus tour company. It included free tickets to Madame Tussauds' Wax Museum D.C and two 24 hour passes for their red line hop off/hop on bus tour. We were able to go three places: Ford's Theater/Madame Tussauds'/Holocaust Museum. Now, we arrived at 9:15 ish for the day. We took less than two hours at each location (a lot less at Tussauds' and Ford's), with a one hour stop for lunch. The bus is supposed to come back around every 15-20 minutes. We ended up calling after waiting more than thirty. I was on hold for nearly five minutes, had to explain our situation for another ten, and by the time the operator finally understood my predicament the bus showed up. My friend is disabled, and we told them he has balance problems, they started moving while we were still coming down the stairs and he lurched forward, cutting his hand. They apologized, but just looked embarrassed and didn't ask if he needed a bandage or anything. The final straw was after we were about to leave the Holocaust Museum, I pulled out our tickets to see if there was a number to call for a time frame of the next bus(since we waited so long the last time)--the ticket said the buses only ran until 5 pm, (but not one employee ever pointed it out and neither did my Groupon, which billed it as a 24 hour pass). As I mentioned, my friend has a disability, and we were stranded and very tired. I called the number, and she said, "Well it is a 24 hour pass, but our buses don't run after five." I said, "Oh, then we get to ride tomorrow again, right?" "No, it's only the first 24 hours--one day you know." I told her that eight hours and twenty-four hours are NOT the same thing, and I fully intended to post negative reviews because our tickets weren't cheap, and we could have rode the metro for A LOT less because this was definitely a waste of my money! I'm furious, and I've already filed a complaint with Groupon, but I'm following up with the D.C. tourism department because it is DEFINITELY false advertising to call it 24 hours! Oh, and we had to walk another ten minutes to a metro station and pay to ride the metro back to our hotel. There are plenty of bus tour companies that run ALL day--don't choose this one. read more

8 of us had a great 3 hour night tour with Derek & Tony. They only used the top seats so everyone had a great view and head sets so you didn't miss any of the fun. Sitting in the last row caused us to duck for a few tree branches but that was part of the fun too. Tour stated @ 6:30 so we saw the city before and after dark. Made 3 stops where you could get out to take pictures and learn more about the monuments. Even used a Groupon so it only cost us $20/person and the weather was warm and comfortable for late September. What more could you ask for? Make sure you get tickets and are in line by 5:30 to get a seat as it's first come first served. Still gives you time to get a quick bite @ Union Station where the tour starts. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day in DC. read more

The absolute WORSE experience. I only had two days in DC and decided to buy my tickets online in advance. I booked the two day all loops tour, and regretted it so much. I came in late May when the temperature was already in the high 80s and booking a tour bus with AC was a priority. To my surprise None of the busses have AC, even though online it said they did. None of the bus drivers were friendly and not a single employee (except for the lady that took my voucher) seemed unhappy and extremely inhospitable. This is a tour bus obviously for tourist and people who want to enjoy the views of their capital, we should be treated with kindness, respect, and hospitality. and these tour buses and their employees did nothing of that sense. read more

Our scheduled bus tour was cancelled on the Sunday after the Women's March in DC. We found out about the cancellation when we showed up at the predetermined site. No one from Citysites was at the booth, either. We had to contact the company ourselves by phone. We asked for a refund at that time. Well, I am writing this review 3 months and many calls later with no results! I have been promised numerous call backs which did not occur. Apparently, they only have one person who handles refunds and they must only work part time because I can never speak to them in person or the other employees just say I will get a call back. Two stars, only because our second tour guide, Alex on the Yellow Line was very nice and knowledgeable. The tour of Georgetown was very pleasant, although the earbud system was shotty at best. Alex did a great job to carry on with the tour, overcoming that obstacle. I'm not sure if these buses have fallen victim to the elements, but they did not seem to be in good shape. Again, thanks, Alex, the only good thing about today's experiences with CitySights DC Hop on, Hop Off Tour. HOWEVER, my family and I purchased tickets this morning from the Union Station starting point. Unfortunately, there seemed to be an error with the printing of our tickets after purchase: two printed out fine, but two were fairly illegible, perhaps due to dwindling ink supplies. The manager present said we would be fine with the two tickets as long as the date was visible (which it was), and if he signed the ticket (which he did). This was NOT the case. An incredibly RUDE female bus driver at Red Line Stop #15 at 11:45am completely refuted our claims, refused us entry on to the Red Line Bus, and was unbelievably combative. Evidently, the fear of losing her job prevented her from contacting another manager who could substantiate our story. I guess we simply "weren't feeling her" ***I'm SURE she'll get THAT reference** Traveling with my parents is already quite the ordeal. Something as simple as a "hop on, hop off" bus should have been simple. But due to that particular bus driver's lack of common decency and understanding, it really turned the day sour. Deplorable beware nonrefundable, Buses didn't start on time, Tour guide was difficult to understand, Buses where not clean, Equipment did not work, Buses do not have heat on the inside, unable to take pictures from inside of bus due to large opaque vinyl advertising banners covering windows. The final blow was waiting outside in freezing weather to board buses for the sunset tour with no passangers willing to ride on the top of an open air bus in the freezing cold without heat and the manager Jazz refusing to allow passengers to board the other two buses before the first bus was filled up. read more

So, this wasn't promising from the start. They had one girl working their table and 50 people trying to get tickets to get on the bus. 4 different buses come in about 15 min increments for the night tour. They give you new headphones to hear the guide talk, but with the wind, it was hard to hear at points. Now, not that this is anyone's fault but being at the top of the bus, you can't really SEE anything through the beautiful trees that D.C. has. Once you get off on one of the 3 stops, they take you through a guided tour and you're able to see things up close. It was hot but it cooled off once the sun set. It was decent, but im sure there are others that have better views and didnt take 3.5 hours. read more

Select another tour bus operator!!! REALLY, this business is AWFUL!!! They scrimp on mechanical services on their buses, placing passengers lives at risk in the name of profits. While 'on board', our bus 'died' on the beltway... we were dead on the highway, with cars whisking around us!!! Had we been hit, we'd all might have been killed. Another bus was sent to pick us up, and that bus had a non-working commentary, thus we drove around without information. I felt most bad for the friendly drivers, who tried to be helpful...they were left without a tip, due to the frustration of the passengers. At one point, eleven on us were stranded, for forty five minutes --- waiting on a bus, the operator stated was ten minutes out. At that point we each was afraid to get off and explore the National Cathedral, for fear no-one would come and pick us up. If there were a NO STAR category, I would use that. The busses run infrequently, apparently with no real scheduling and some if the lines appear to stop at 4PM. HORRIBLE company - SCAM do not take this bus. We were scammed on 11/5/2017 when we tried to use this company, We waited over 40 minutes for a bus when they say they come every 20 - LIE - they did not give a tour, they said nothing - then told us to get off and change to a different bus. We asked for our money back and were told NO management had to do. We got off the bus and talked to 2 men who were suppose to be able to help they said NO - we called and disputed, got a claim number etc.. emailed them as told and received a response the next day saying management said NO refund. Having done the Old Town Trolley hop on and off all day pass along with the night tour when we were in DC two years ago we thought we would try the double decker busses this time around. We selected CitySights because the Big Bus seemed like a bunch of used car salesmen slinging their trips and we were only interested in the night tour this time around. We arrived at Union Station and were in line for our 7:00pm tour at 6:30pm. Our bus didn't leave until almost 7:45! We head out to the FDR and Martin Luther King memorial first. We get back to the bus we have a new driver and three passengers who were left from one of the other busses. They were upset about being left and they wanted to sit on the top of the bus taking seats from those who were supposed to be on our bus. The next stop at the Lincoln monument we get another passenger who was left! The additional 4 people refused to get off the bus and took the seats from people who were supposed to be on the bus on the top, one of which was a Vietnam veteran! To top everything else the new driver that came on the bus at the FDR memorial almost got into two accidents and kept making wrong turns. At one point he parked on the street to come up and ask the tour guide for directions! Our guide kept having to stop the tour to give the driver directions, Having done both the Old Town trolley tour and the City Sights take the Old Town Trolley. They don't have the cool double decker buses,which was really the only good thing about this tour, but they make sure their riders are on the bus after the memorial stops. They do this by having you sit in the same seats when you reboard after visiting the memorials So you don't loose your seats and you notify the driver if your neighbors are missing. read more

I do not recommend this tour company at all. The first bus did not have a working audio system and the guide had a cold and could hardly talk. We asked him to move closer to the middle of the group so that we could hear him. He did for a while, but slowly worked his way back so that we could not hear him again. When we got off at The Jefferson Memorial, we were told the next bus would be there in 30 minutes. We made it back to the stop and waited an additional 30 minutes for the bus. In the meantime 3 Big Bus and 2 of another bus had come by and left. At least the audio system worked on the 2nd bus. read more

When we questioned them after we walked to the next stop, the 3 men started yelling at us. VERY intimidating. While we waited for one bus, multiple Big Bus busses came by. Second day we were connecting to the yellow line and were told that we needed to wait 30 minutes..15 minutes later we boarded and there was no guide and driver was not stopping at the stops. We had to tell him to let us off. The microphone system was not working on the first bus so they made us wait another 30 minutes for another bus. We were hot and annoyed most of the day. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever paid for. Tickets go for $39.99, but when they discounted my 8 tickets (for a tour through the city with some family), I thought we really got a bargain...after having been on the "tour," you couldn't pay me to ride with City Sights again. Their entire operation is shady at best, they cannot maintain pickup schedules to save their lives, and their employees are the epitome of unprofessional. After being dropped off at the Air and Space museum, we did our thing at the museum, and returned to the pick-up/drop-off area to catch the bus that was supposed to run by every 20 mins. 1 hour later, in the sweltering heat of a mid-July afternoon, I was tired of waiting. I called customer service via the number provided on the pamphlet, and when I finally got through to someone, I was assured a bus would arrive within 10 minutes of my call. 30 minutes later I called again, inquiring when a bus would be expected at the museum and I was hung up on. By this point I was furious, but a bus finally arrived and I just wanted to board so that we could at least finish the tour of the city from the bus (there was no way in hell I was disembarking again for fear that I'd never be able to get back onto a bus before they closed up shop at 5 pm). The tour guide went through the normal talking points for a while, and it was pretty interesting...until she just stopped halfway through the tour after passing the Washington Monument. We passed sites like the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Memorials, and the White House...not a single word. Even better, we stopped for 15 minutes outside of the Jefferson Memorial so that the driver could use the bathroom: I understand that sometimes you've just gotta go, but it was just icing on the cake of an absolutely terrible experience. Do not waste your money with this tour, you're better off taking an Uber and looking up all the cool stuff you see on Google for information on them. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK A TOUR WITH CITY SIGHTS DC! We had the worst experience. We used Groupon to book our family of 5 on City Sight D.C,'s Night Tour. It was awful. We arrived at 6:15 as directed for our 6:30 tour (by the way, in July in D.C. the sun doesn't even set until 8:30 ish). There was a long line outside of Union Station. Half the line made it on Bus 1. We were told we would have to wait for Bus 2. By this time, it was after 7 p.m. and still waiting in the hot sun. Bus 2 arrived, but there was NO TOUR GUIDE. We did not make it on Bus 2, but the bus finally left around 7:30 p.m. to meet a guide elsewhere (?). We still were not on a bus. Bus 3 finally arrived and we got on. It was 7:55. But guess what, we had NO TOUR GUIDE. We were taken to place where we met the passengers on Bus 2. They put all of us on Bus 5. All the passengers were extremely disgruntled and everyone was complaining. We did have a tour guide though, but he did not have a microphone, so we sat until one was brought. Now it was around 8:40. The good news? It was getting dark. We saw Iwo Jima and the White House and then the tour was over for us. This was around 9:30 p.m.The people on Bus 2 also got to see the Lincoln Memorial, but we did not. So, we paid over $100 to wait in the hot sun, ride around with no commentary, and see 2 places in D.C. This company is disorganized and unprofessional. This company does not even deserve one star. 1. First, I bought tickets for the Potomac Riverboat Monuments Cruise. When I called the day of the tour (November 12th) to confirm a few logistics, they informed me that the tour was actually not available after October and that they were "working on taking it off the website." Their customer service is terrible, and I had to speak with 7 different offices in at least three different cities in order to request a refund (which I have yet to see). 2. After scrambling to find an evening activity for my out of town guests, I bought tickets for the Double Decker Night Tour of the monuments, but there was no guide. The assigned guide apparently had called in sick, and the company did not get a substitute guide. The driver played the day tour audio, but the tours are not the same, and the audio was not timed correctly. While sitting across from the South Lawn of the White House, we were told we were looking at the Lincoln Memorial. If you want to do a tour of DC, do NOT go with this company. read more

Terrible service! Use Big Bus instead! Stranded with no busses (while Big Bus came by three times). Called the number on the brochure; guy told us another bus was a block away. We got on it, and the driver looked at our tickets. You'd think be would have mentioned that it was a different route than we had purchased! We figured it out by the map, but the driver wasn't stopping at any of the stops, even for the route he was on. After calling the number on the brochure, we finally went downstairs and insisted that the driver let us off. We took a taxi back into town. Customer service says they do not give refunds, even if the service offered was not provided. Worst hop-on, hop-off ever! Use anybody else! read more
