I found out about this tour through Groupon. BEFORE I purchased the Groupon, I called to make sure he had availability for the tour/time I wanted to fit into my vacation schedule (you should ALWAYS call the merchant prior to purchasing a Groupon for an event/booking based good). Johannes answered my call and told me that he wasn't handling the Groupon offer anymore, but would give me a good deal on the tour, which he did. It was $35/person for the DC at Night Tour which was 4 hours long (a very low price compared to other tours in DC). Anyway, after our call he told me to email him to confirm with my details and where I was staying so he could pick me up and I was all set! He also called me the morning of the tour to confirm our pickup location and time. He was right on time for my 6:30 tour - we picked up a few other guests from local spots and started the tour at 7PM. The tour bus was spacious and comfortable with large windows and he was a safe driver. He used a bluetooth intercom to guide us around the monuments and memorials, and gave us fun facts and tidbits along the way. We stopped at all the spots for a 10-15 minute photo op. He joined us at the stops and offered to take photos and gave us additional details about what we were seeing. Otherwise you could just do your own thing and get back to the bus when you were done. There was an older gentleman in a wheelchair on our tour and Johannes had no problem assisting him and pushing him around the stops. He was willing to answer any questions, asked if there was anything in particular we wanted to see (we wanted to see Georgetown so he took us through there) and had a lot of fun doing the tour. It didn't feel like some canned docent leading you around with a script they've read a billion times. I would most certainly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the DC area! The ONLY thing I wish he had was an easier way to book the tours (like an online booking system so I could see the dates/time available). A solid 5 stars from me!

"Can you show me the cherry trees?" I asked Dr. Yohannes Zeleke at the start of our tour into the heart of Washington, D.C. My plane was leaving back to Los Angeles that afternoon; I had this final morning after my conference to see the town. Dr. Zeleke, archeologist, dug into the past of Washington D.C. as he escorted me first to all the city's monuments I hadn't seen and then finally to the glorious cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin. A breeze stirred the trees; the pink petals swirled around us like snow. Dr. Zeleke sketched out United States history in a frame that I had never seen before. His commentary was fascinating! I recommend his personalized tours not only for seeing the sights but for understanding the story of our country in a new way. His tours are history revealed!

To say that I enjoyed my tour is an understatement. I'm so glad that the other tours were booked and this tour was found for us. This tour is a secret that shouldn't be kept. Who else can say that they received a tour from a professor, world traveler, archeologist all in one. I am so please to have met such a knowledgeable person and to have had the best tour experience I have ever had. Please book this tour. You will not be disappointed and will learn more then you ever expected. Thanks a lot

With the amount of secret service activities, I'm sure the company understands the amount of time and brain power required to maneuver families around the city. We booked Arlington with the old town trolley tour. We combined the old trolley and Arlington tour. However, the website allows you to book separate dates for the 2 tours. Before you go on the tour, use the map trolley tracker to plan and track trolley live. It acts like a map and will guide you to the various stops. If you're driving, make sure to choose a stop and find the public parking closest to that area in order to return to your car after the tour. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. The old time trolley will not drive you into Arlington. It will drop you at A1 spot to catch the Arlington trolley. Check the map consistently due to road closures. Other than that, I highly recommend you do this tour with the Arlington tour if you're tight on time in DC. Get off at strategic spot, see what you need to see, and move onto the next. From my observation, the trolley is not really wheelchair accessible. Person should be able to hop on and off without much assistance. There are other tour companies out there that might be better accommodating

But if its a hot or muggy day, the photos of smiling passengers will not be indicative of your red/blue line experience. These buses have no A/C, and if you want to sit al-fresco and its a sunny day, you'll be just as sweaty. Think: "summertime Alabama prison bus experience" and this will meet that expectation.

The guy told us to get on the bus and stay on. It would do the red line, then the blue line. We could then do the evening tour. Okay then. Off we go. Finished the red line, and we're told to get off the bus. What? Last bus is at 4:30.. not what we were told. Not happy. We went on to the evening tour. I'd say it was pretty good. I did enjoy that parts of this tour. Didn't enjoy the "stories" so much. Would have liked more history. We got the bus the next morning and went to Arlington. When we finished we went to the stop, not such great bus timing. Their brochure said buses come every 15 minutes. After an hour of waiting we tried to contact BB to see what was going on? They do not have a phone number that works. There is an email address that stars it will get back to you in 24 hours.., what? We waiting over an hour and gave up for an uber. We did get another email telling us there are delays due to events. This is not okay we when have paid for a 24 hour pass that is not usable. All in all, our 24 hour pass was good for 3 hours. Reason for this? Maybe because only two buses run on Sunday. So unless you have the time to wait two hours for your next bus, it's not worth it! Do not use this service!

We were lucky enough to be in a smaller van while others were in large busses, so our experience was more personalized. Dwayne knocked our socks off. He crams so much knowledge into the tour, well above and beyond the actual stops. His passion for the city and knowledge of architecture and history were impressive. He also knew his way round the current blockages/construction and was able to avoid politics while discussing the current construction which takes mad skills. He thoroughly answered any random questions we threw at him and had deep knowledge of subjects like the Red Cross and Clara Barton, I've volunteered with them for years and didn't know his fun facts. Dwayne was born for this role and may be the best tour guide I've had in my life. I now question my own passions/interests. Dwayne gave great suggestions for getting the best photos and what else we can do in his city. I wish I had more days here and could do more tours with Dwayne! He is so inspiring!
