We came here for our TEP trees, and to our amazement they were at least seven feet tall--almost too big to fit in the car! They were very healthy when we bought them and are growing beautifully now. The nursery also has a wonderful selection of perennials, flowers, trees, fruit trees, and vegetables. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful, especially when loading items into your vehicle. Two trees I have acquired from TEP's tree offering came from Civano Nursery. I just paid a good sum of money to take our one after 9 yrs as it was listing. After digging up the tree it was obvious the root ball was bound; it looked like a Celtic knot. A second tree I got had the same problem but had foreseen a knot just below the surface so I took care to wash off all the soil and cut the roots so they weren't twisted around each other before planting. I lost another one awhile back and am now thinking that must have been the problem. Looks like instead of recycling their "rejects" they just give them to TEP and leave it up to potential customers to deal with them without knowing the risks. Won't be supporting them now and take this as a warning to others. read more

This nursery was great! We stopped by as part of our date night and picked out a plant and pot for each other. There were plenty of native plants as well as a greenhouse type area with non native plants. They have cute planters too. The staff who rang us up were super friendly and shared watering tips to avoid overwatering the plants we chose. We'll be back the next time we want to pick up more plants! read more

They are expanding! This was already a fantastic plant nursery with tons of variety but we noticed they're planning to get even bigger. The staff are kind and knowledgeable. There's even fun games to play like giant checkers and giant chess! My favorite part is definitely the little baby goat this place is great for purchasing plants, of course, but it's also just a really cool and fun place to hang out. There's a lot of reasons to go somewhere else. I may run to the nursery if I need to grab a small thing. But I've experienced better service at other nurseries. (Like helping a person grabbing a lot of dirt take their things to their car, making sure that there's signage over slip possibilities, etc), better selection of product and evidence that plants are taken care of better (especially when there are staff not interacting with plants or customers) in other places. There aren't a lot of options when it comes to indoor plants.. I've had more help with purchasing and more items that would support my garden and indoor plants at other places. This place is fine.. and it's closer to where I live but if I have the time I'd still choose to go somewhere else read more

This is a fun place for plant lovers. Great selection of indoor and outdoor plants. Large variety of trees that they will plant for you for a small fee. The staff is knowledgeable about what and when to plant. Not the cheapest in town, but the quality and service is worth the price. Bring a hat. It can be full sun while shopping around. Yesterday I had a new Lisbon Lemon tree planted in a pot in my yard to replace an ill lime tree. Danny from Civano Nursery was fantastic!!! He was right on time, super friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He took the time to know what I was hoping for, and helped choose the perfect location. He and his partner removed my diseased tree, repotted the new one, and even re-staked it to assure it would grow straight. I can hardly wait for the first fruit! Houghton Road Store: The service was fine when I bought a yard full of plants. It all went downhill from there. Their planting service came out and put everything where I told them to. The irrigation was in place. I was all set for a well-balanced xeriscaped yard. Then plants were dying... and dying... and dying. It's like watching money burn up in front of your eyes. I went back to speak to them and they blamed me for poorly planting things and having defective irrigation. So, I told them the plants appeared to be properly installed by THEIR crew and the irrigation worked properly per my gardener. So, then they blamed an "infestation", i.e., without seeing a single plant for themselves. I pointed out that the original plantings were fine and that only their plantings had died. Shouldn't an infestation kill everything else? They got angry and defensive and said I could go elsewhere for my needs. I did. I went to "Mesquite Valley Growers" on Speedway and bought replacements for what died. I paid my gardener to plant them. The plants are all doing fine. No "infestations" have appeared. Just avoid Civano. They do not stand behind their products and service and clearly do not care about repeat customers. read more

Worst customer service. Manager had attitude even before she knew the details. Blamed me for dead tree.

I bought 3 trees in 24 gallon containers for $600 each. I asked if they do the planting of the trees they said yes we have people that can deliver and plant them for $150 per tree. All trees have been planted so poorly with severe girdling roots, the hole that they made was a mere 3" wider than the root ball. The trees grew with no roots expanding outwards, all big roots circling the trunk and growing under the trunk, lifting the tree causing them to lean and fall when monsoon comes. So folks need aware if you buy trees from nursery like this you are wasting your time hoping to have a nice tree for shade and your money. Never mind how well you care got your tree if they are not planted properly they will never be stable. read more

I usually am not one to put any business down, but this place takes the prize for worst ever. AVOID!, So my wife and I stoped by here today to get some veggies and flowers. My wife went in first while I finished getting ready to take things home. She had our Service Animal with her! She was denied entry. The woman told her no pets allowed. She told the woman that she was a Service Animal. In a snide tone, the woman stated "That's a Service Dog". No pets allowed. Well they are now on my forever AVOID list. Guess they don't know that it is a violation of Federal Law to deny entry to a Service Animal. This is one disabled vet that will never return. My daughter walked into a cactus and the staff literally ran to the rescue giving bandaids and helping my husband take off the pricklies. We had a death in the family in the Tucson area. We live in Sacramento, CA. My mother in law was very determined on finding a Jacaranda tree to send the family. I called many other nurseries, and this is the first one that was helpful. I spoke with Nathaniel and he was so helpful. He went out right away to check what they had in stock, and was able to describe the trees so I could make the best choice over the phone. He was able to quickly get a quote for me and did not pressure me to go over my mother-in-law's price limit. Nathaniel was very efficient and kind. Called to talk to them about my tree that died before I could even get it in the ground...was rude and immediately told me it could only have died from me not watering it enough. I'm pretty sure plants die for many reasons so I will go to some of the other nurseries around town that have better customer service and plants in the future. read more

learn from my lack of knowledge . i live in Prescott AZ, I wanted a large Argentine Saguaro (Echinopsis Terscheckii) i called this nursery, they said they had a Nice one in a 24" Box. i borrowed a trailer and drove 500 miles round trip to get this Cactus, it looked Great. MY Huge Mistake was trusting them & their word. i was a 100% Novice. brought the plant home & had it in the ground for over a year befor I learned I have been sold something else?? I teached out to the nursery asking "What did I spend almost $600 on" NEVER got a straight answer, only got "I remember that Cactus but do not whow what it was" yes, I should have more informed - however, the Nursery should know what they have and when a Customer asks for a Very Specific Cactus. My lack ow knowledge cost me $600 + 500 mile round trip. Had the person on the phone said "I do NOT know that cactus but we have a very nice 24" Box Cactus here but knowone knows what it is" No way I would have driven 500 miles & spent $600 Bottom line, Know what you are buying / They WILL Lie to you We get COLD temps here, Not every Cactus will survive - I have to Protect this plant during winter / Not my plan. Love this nursery! I frequent Civano at least weekly. The nursery is beautiful and well laid out. They have a wonderful selection of just about everything. They also have pots, chimes, garden decor and birdhouses. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. All of the plants I've purchased have been quality and are still thriving. Well worth the drive to the East side of town. There is a childrens play area for Mom's who have little ones while they shop. Overall a beautiful and well presented nursery. It seems like I am not the only one who is doing a bad review for this business. I want to do this review before it becomes irrelevant. Last week We were in the middle of the covid19 emergency, we still are. Let me start from the beginning. I bought a tree a few months ago. A 15 gal tree that was growing beautiful and healthy. I paid Civano no plant it and install two 8' lodge pole stakes to protect it against strong winds. During the first week of April we had some strong winds and I was worried that the tree could break. I noticed that the piece of bamboo tied to the tree trunk was loose and I added extra support in the mean time I had someone from CIVANOS to come and fix it. I tried to speak with an employee for days, almost every day I kept calling but always getting messages that nobody was able to take my call and not even the option to leave a message. I live 36 miles round trip from their location and due to the COVID 19 I was hopping I could talk to someone without leaving my house but after a week of trying I decided to drive all the way and find out if they were CLOSED or what. To my susprise the parking lot was busy. Customers were coming in and out like anyother day. I could not believe no one was willing to take a call. I found the Manager watering some cactus and moving some little pots. I asked her immediately why nobody was answering the phone and she just rised and dropped her shoulders looking around like saying " because We are busy". It was impossible to talk to her. I tried to keep a 6' distance but this woman kept walking away from me at least 12'. I was wearing a mask, hat and gloves, and considering the place was packed with other customers and employees it wasn't like they were taking preventive measures to stay safe or limiting the number of people inside so I found her reaction very annoying. I wanted an asnwer, and I was upset because I had to drive all the ditance during a "stay at home" phase (they are located at Houghton Road, way out there). I could barely understand what she was saying under her home made mask. She asked me when I purchased it. Of course I was expecting that question. That is typical easy exit: WARRANTY EXPIRED. But that wasn't my point. I tried calling them to get help fixing the installation problem before the winds break it but instead I ended up with a broken tree because everybody was having fun outside and left the phone ringing for days. I paid them $329.71 dlls worth of labor and materials. Then she did the unexpected. She did the cross sign on me and said " I will pray for you"... that was very inappropiate and not proffesional at all. If I wanted an honest and sincere blessing I could have gone to a Church but coming from her it felt more like an insult instead. Of course before I left the place I yielded: "ANSWER THE FU**NG PHONE! " The only thing I regret is that I was wearing a mask and it didn't sound as loud as I wanted. Awful customer service! Gardening is bloomming becasue the situation, I bet If I was there trying to spend a few hundred dollar she would not have been so concern keeping a silly 12' safe distance. Shame on you. read more

I live out in Vail so this place is convenient for me. But even if it wasn't I'd still go because I love this place! My Mom who lives in El Paso also comes here when she visits me. They have a wide selection of all sorts of plants. You name it, they have it. My Mom was in search of a Desert Rose plant and they had a giant selection of them ranging from$9.99 up to a giant one that had been growing forever for $10,000! Of course we didn't buy that one, but we were pleased they had such a huge selection. I am also really into succulents and they had several to choose from as well. The customer service is also great! The employees are always friendly and knowledgeable and take you to exactly what you are looking for. What I also appreciate about this place is the scenery. My Mom and I were out there for hours cause it's so gorgeous! Highly recommend this place and I'll surely return. read more

Walking through this place is like a breath of fresh air. Everything is beautifully displayed, very open walkways and a plethora of bushes, trees, cacti and pottery among numerous other decorative items. The goat, rabbits, turtle and fish added another bit of fun! There were no stifling hot greenhouses you had to walk through but rather an open, airy and enjoyable shopping trip! I've been to the Civano Nursery four times so far and three out of four times i felt like i'm disrupting the people working there. I've also been to a few other nurseries in town and realized that the Civano Nursery is overpriced. A 5 gallon rose bush is $50 at the Civano Nursery when there are $29 rose bushes everywhere else. The neighborhood is wonderful, the nursery is super cute as well but so far only one man helped me out and was in a good mood, everyone else wasn't. read more

I had the single worst customer service experience at Civano. I purchased 2 hand painted small plant pots (a girl and a boy) for 49.00 a piece, I brought them home and they remained inside for some time, I decided to take the girl out fill her with dirt and plant seeds. As I did so after a few weeks I noticed the painting on the girls lips (red) was coming off and her eyelashes as well, so I called. (I placed 4 phone calls to Civano which can be proven) to see what I could do, I loved them and I was sad...the first person said call back the manager is out, ok...second call asked what it was about took my name and phone number said I would receive a call that never came..., called again this time the lady said do you have a receipt I said no but I could get it and that this was a specialty item, she said bring it by I am here all next week, so I did, 15 miles one way, except she wasn't there (at lunch and will be right back, 45 minutes later) and the people she left behind had no clue about how to handle or do the right thing, they knew it was their merchandise and said so, one pot had never been touched yet somehow the tickets still affixed to the pot where somehow "just the vendors" not theirs meaning I was lying right? I finally got through to my CC company and I will have the receipt I need. I will now expect a full refund, something I had no intention of asking for. I will never do business with this place and they should revisit the meaning of "Integrity " on their website, perhaps doing the right thing for a customer should be part of what you do. You lied, not me. You don't stand behind your products and what you sell, you accuse your own customers of purchasing something you sell from another nursery. I won't forget. Not one time did ANYONE from Civano apologize, It was all my fault. read more

Sugar snap peas, the big ones, spinach, lettuce of different kinds, Swiss chard, broccoli, radishes, brussel sprouts, (only a couple left) dil, cilantro most of the basic herbs all fresh and healthy. Beware for your pets if you buy plants from Civano Nursery. I purchased (at a fair price) three fruit trees. I had the delivery folks plant the trees (they did a GREAT job, no complaints there) within my back fence where my dogs run free. Only after I researched more about the peach and plum tree (now that I had the name tags here on the trees to look them up) did I discover that both peach and plum pits are highly toxic to dogs, which the salesperson never mentioned. So I called to have the folks come replant them outside the fence. In addition to the replanting fee (which I was more than willing to pay), they wanted another $60 just to drive the truck here (no delivery at all). I said I would do it myself. I called a bit later and asked to speak to the manager. The lady said she was the manager. When I explained the situation, she said they (paraphrasing) GENERALLY DON'T TELL THEIR CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY PURCHASE PLANTS THAT ARE TOXIC TO THEIR ANIMALS!!! Rather, they expect customers to discuss what plants are toxic with their vets. When I pushed back and said that the salesperson should have informed me, she said that I should have known --- after which I hung up the phone. I was relying on their expertise, as I am not a plant person. I wish I had asked her how she would like it if the computer repair person said to her that she should have known some technical detail while fixing her computer. Pretty smart-alecky to me, frankly. Needless to say, I won't be back, and if you value your pets' lives, you will avoid these folks like the plague. read more

Civano Nursery is unquestionably my favorite nursery in Tucson. It's been a frustrating journey for my husband and I to learn the plants of the Southwest - we've killed everything, except for the plants that came from Civano, which are going strong at about a year: Mexican Honeysuckle, a Chilean Mesquite, and assorted native small plants/bushes. They delivered the larger plants and dug the hole for the tree - very reasonably priced. Even on crazy hot days the staff is in great spirits, super helpful, and knowledgeable. Quite expensive. About 25-45% more than three other nursery's we visited in Tucson. Beautiful plants, though. No one was available to help us. Just cashiers and non-english gardeners even though this was a Saturday. No public restroom. I was directed to a nearby Quick Mart! I just think if you're open for business and willing to take folks' money, there should be a place to go. Yes, there is covid but the other 3 nurseries had open restrooms. We were in the market for a large Palo Verde and large desert Willow so they lost a big sale. We were able to find exactly what we wanted for much less at Green Things. read more
