I have been driving past this place for years, finally went in to find something and get advice. What I got was a rude old lady in the tropical house, talking down to me. Like I'm bothering her and I shouldn't be there. She told me to go buy fake flowers. Seriously? I came for advise and left upset. I went to another greenhouse and got actual advice and was treated like a human. To the guy with the blue plugs , thank you for trying and wanting to help but she kept talking over you. I went to Mesquite this morning to buy some Aleppo pine trees. My trip was from north Phoenix, 300 miles round trip. A friend recently worked with Dre and told me to ask for him. After a quick introduction, Dre knew exactly what I wanted. He took the time to explain the differences of some other pine trees, growth, pine needle size, etc. Then he helped me select 3 trees. Amazing experience and customer service! Customer service is often lacking at the big box stores, but not here. Ask for Dre at Mesquite and you will be glad you did. Grateful for his help! read more

Totally worth a visit here and I guarantee you will find something! This is a huge nursery with several native plants and others adapted for the weather ( indoor and outdoor). In addition to the plant selection (trees, shrubs, roses, vines etc) they have a large selection of plant pottery, fountains, decor, gardening tools, soil and fertilizers. I'm a houseplant lover/collector who moved to Tucson about a year ago, and Mesquite is easily my favorite nursery in the area. They have an amazing tropical selection that they rotate through with all the classics plus rare wishlist varieties - I've never left disappointed or empty handed. They're also the first nursery I've ever shopped at frequently where I've NEVER taken home a plant with root rot or pests. The care staff truly know what they are doing and keep all their plants in fantastic condition, which makes the (very slightly) higher prices totally worth it since you know your plant will thrive when you take it home. I just wish they were closer to my house (I'm in Marana), although that would probably be dangerous for my bank account... Love Mesquite!! read more

Mesquite Valley is my go-to for good soil. I also love going to their new greenhouse just to photograph plants for art reference. There are a lot of benches in the greenhouse if you want to sit and draw. I love that the greenhouse isn't just rows of plants, but curated to be truly beautiful. Look, they're not the cheapest place, but what you get is quality and boy if you want it they probably got it. A little secret is if you want something of any size and you can't find it just ask the guy at the help desk. He'll know what they got in the growing area. This last round of planting I got so many large bushes and trees I needed them delivered and they brought them pretty much right where I needed to plant them for only a $50 delivery fee. Oh they are also very helpful with how to plant and care for them. You know just talk to their experts and tell them what type of plant you're looking for and they will almost always point you to a plant you've never heard of. And a side bonus their place is like a botanical garden so you can go just to enjoy the plants. read more

Wow what an amazing and huge selection of plants and flowers. We went to replace a rose tree. Although it's a bit early in the season, they had a great selection. A man on a golf cart who spotted us was so helpful and incredibly patient as we chose our tree for a pot on the patio. I highly recommend this nursery. read more

Prices are higher compared to big box home improvement stores; however they have a much larger selection of items. This place is great in some ways and not in others. It is absolutely huge, you can get lost in garden paradise with all the plants. Feel the tranquility of flowers, greenery, and all the colors. Smell the roses and flowers. They have a huge variety of tropical plants, bushes, herbs, annals, peri annals, flowers, and veggies. They have a gift shop with such a cute variety. Mugs, Christmas ornaments, towels, stickers, food, journals. So much They have a garden store with seeds, gloves, wind chime, fertilizer, soil, pots, and irrigation systems. Prices wise there are much cheaper spots for some of it. The customer service is where it's up or down. I've had times where I asked for help and was given such attitude that I didn't return for over a year. It was my first time visiting and it was such an inconvenience to guide me to the correct area. Today however nobody asked me if I needed help, at all. Nobody even says hello. The only good saving grace was that the check out lady was a sweet heart. Service is good. Large selection of plants. Grossly overpriced compared to other local nurseries. However, plant quality can be better than others depending on species you are looking for. One thing buyer should be aware of is they do not install. And for most homeowners looking for larger plants that's a deal breaker considering how difficult it is to dig and properly plant in our local Tucson soil. If you are looking for larger plants consider Moon Valley Nurseries. Although pricey as well, at least they deliver, install, and warranty their material with free replacements. They also include at no cost starter fertilizers and nutrient liquids to help in the establishment of new plants. read more

After not having any luck finding it on my own I asked the nice gentleman at the information desk if they had it. Using his walkie talkie he confirmed it was in the greenhouse section. Yay! I was nursing a sprained ankle so 30 yr employee Rodney drove me on covered golf cart to find the plant looking for ;lady banks banksia sp? tombstone white rose. Surprised to learn two varieties a clustered flower & single flower . Plant May have come from Scottland and a world famous one in tombstone az covering a large courtyard fee to see! I can't believe the sheer size of this local nursery. It was almost too big and difficult to focus. They beautiful selection of plants, trees, fountains, pottery, garden decorations, and cacti. I liked that they had a cooler of free water for guests to stay hydrated and water bowls for our furry friends. What I didn't like about my visit on Saturday was that I saw several staff working in different areas of the nursery and not one person greeted me. I also thought the prices were a little on the high side, even for a local nursery. But it's definitely worth a stop. read more

Horrible return policy! Asked to return a dead plant and it's original condition. How can you return a dead plant when you bought it, it was alive. one week Spanish lavender dead they won't take it back unless it's in the same condition I bought it. Ridiculous return policy. read more

We like MVG, the selection of everything/anything is outstanding and it's all laid out in a very organized and logical fashion. If you buy a plant and it dies within the first few weeks, they will not refund you or give you a price break on a replacement plant. In my case, a 5-gallon Desert Willow tree died a few weeks after planting it (planted correctly). I purchased 7 trees, 1 died and MVG refused any sort of refund or price reduction to replace the dead one. We do like the place though but buyer beware. read more

If you are new to Tucson and love gardening.....look no further, this is your place!! Mesquite is my favorite place to go on a warm spring day. Their outside yard area is set up where it feels like you're walking through a beautiful Park. Everything is nicely separated into easy to find sections. Vines, succulents, cactus, citrus tree area, rose bush area, etc. I never knew there were so many varieties of roses! They have talavera pottery, outdoor fountains, outdoor art, and a huge indoor area with a gift shop that has unique wind chimes, bird accessories, statues and other beautiful things. When inside, there are two different doors that lead to separate outdoor areas. One is a covered area for all the smaller plants both perennial and annual. I completely missed that section the first time I visited Mesquite. If you love browsing garden things, allow yourself ample time the first time you go here! read more

This place has some very nice plants! Prices are generally priced higher than other nurseries, especially houseplants, but the selection is vast and the plants are well cared for. The houseplant greenhouse is amazing, and it's nice that they have separate areas for roses, vines, shade plants, etc. People are always very nice and helpful, and they have a lot of informational sheets by the checkout. If you're looking for native plants in particular, they do have a lot of them, but they don't seem to have a clear marking system for native / "nativar" / non-native adapted / etc. I find that I have to do a lot of on-site googling to check. I wish they would do this to make it easier to find things for building native plant gardens. read more

Great customer service when we went to pick our plants and trees for our new home. They have a huge selection of stock and the knowledge to help make good selections for high desert living. They raise plants that are suited to our environment and not grown in zones that may lead to unhealthy plants. Big box stores may have a limited supply at slightly less cost but who knows where their inventory was raised? Plus the fact that most box stores do not have a knowledgeable staff to help with planting advice. read more

We've been costomers since the 1970's. Occasionally we have had issues around returns on a pot, but happy with service and selection. Over the last 3-4 years several of the familiar staff have left. The culture at Mesquite appears to be less caring. Today, I was frustrated with lack of inventory on Pots. I asked if they could be ordered. The associate said no. I was advised to call back to talk with an employee in charge of pots. I apologized for being frustrated. The response was "you're rude". Then a "hang up". Nathan, The Son of one of the owners called me back. He said, the employees don't deal with rude customers. He wasn't interested in improving customer relation. "We don't care....". There are still good things about Mesquite. Too bad the culture around customer service is deteriorating. read more

I loved this place so much the first time I came here that I knew I must come back. Quite surprised to find there were even more changes. The final product is incredible. The separation of types of plants, grasses, vegetables & herbs, vines, shrubs, trees -and then desert, citrus, roses... Whew! This place almost feels endless. I would recommend you do some research of your desired plants before you come here or else you might feel overwhelmed. Plan to spend hours here. They have a giant greenhouse just for houseplants, one for oranges, one for grapefruit..... this is a massive garden center! I loved their gift shop and bought a hot air balloon whirligig, plastic flamingo wine glasses (flamingos are my thing). They even have free cold bottled water, which was very necessary the day I visited. This is a travel destination for you fellow crazy plant people! I am conflicted about this place, I have seen it from the early early days to now. While I'm glad a local business is doing well and expanding to the extreme, it's all too much for me. It's like sensory overload and extremely expensive, I'm sure the carrying cost on ally that is enormous. There are 2 worlds the front and the back, the back (being the growers) is filled with few people who are amazing and knowledgable and helpful if you get the chance to talk to them. The front the staff not so happy, not so nice ever since I've been going there 26 years plus, tolerable but not very helpful. This is the best way to navigate this environment. 1. They are here to make money, so they need you to buy. 2. Don't just let them point you in a direction, get them to show you exactly where you need to be. 3. Make sure you are getting exactly what you came for. 3 things that MVG does well, because of the connection to Catalina Heights Nursery the Super Don's of Rose's, Citrus, and Mac's Magic Fertilizer (sadly closed). The speculation among the industry, when now owner of MVG left the employment of Catalina Heights he took with him the wisdom of the citrus and the roses. Also purported, took the formula to Mac's Magic Fertilizer (some say W/0 permission) So there are 3 things I get here. 1. Citrus 2. Rose's 3. the commensurate of Mac's Magic Fertilizer. The rest with few exceptions can be found elsewhere at better price's. read more

This place is expensive and every time i have been there (5 times) the employees are congregating around each other and talking in small groups and when i ask for assistance they seem annoyed and point in the direction i should go to in order to scour the many many aisles and shelves they have for the specific plant i am after. Came here to get a pot for my succulent and wanted to check out the variety this place had, which boasts quite a lot of plants and pots of all kinds and shapes. What an exhaustive plethora to choose from. Loved it. Would happily come back here if I'm in the area for another pot. Bring your own bag if you need to carry your pot safely out though, they don't provide that here. I bought a pot and a separate plate to go underneath it, as they have some different sizes and colors to choose from. read more
