I love CJ's. This place is a lot of fun to go with friends. Every time I come in here, it's busy. There are TVs everywhere so you can watch the game, a pool table, a touchscreen jukebox, great drink specials, plus the food is amazing. I am here at least three times a month and it's totally worth the drive from Grosse Pointe. Our favorite bartender is Chelsea, she is very nice, makes great drinks, and always puts up with our demands haha. Another great thing about this place, is during the week, their kitchen is open till midnight and that is really hard to find. One day, I would like to visit the CJ's on Rochester road. Came here to root for the Lions in their playoff game. The bar did a good job meeting the challenge of all the fans. They had food & drink specials for the whole evening. The TV's were all tuned to the Lion's game, only complaint was the volume. It was blasting, could barely talk to my friends. Our waitress did a good job keeping up with our 3 tables and 12+ people. Drinks were reasonably priced. We ordered a $8.99 large pizza - one of the specials. It was really good, a bit greasy but kind of classic. Little curled pepperoni's and lot's of cheese. It fed 4 people with a few pieces left over. Someone else had the ribs and said they were also really good. Lot's of tables and a long bar in the center. Went for anniversary dinner. I get my dinner salad and was not fresh lettuce. I noticed a couple brown ones and as I removed them there were a bunch throughout! Who would serve that to their customers!!?? I sent it back and waitress offered me a new salad. I said no thank you if this salad isn't fresh how would next one be fresh? I got a cole slaw instead. I had couple bottle beers. They were not cold like they should be!! This has happened before at this serving beer not nice n cold!! Apparently they do not keep beer stocked in coolers rotating to keep them all cold!! Our waitress was a gem. She dealt with stuff as best she could. None of these problems were her fault. Sadly she's the front man. We've gone here for years and seen it slowly change but not for the better. We figured we'd give it another try. I came in for a LARGE, reserved business party with my company and all of our sister companies. Keep in mind there are millions of dollars in one room here tonight. The wait staff was rude all evening, I even stood there and listened to a waitress disrespect our whole party to a passerby, as she stood there eating soup and texting. I do not drink, but I paid tabs for people and tipped well all evening. The bar staff lost my credit card for a few hours, and treated me like it was MY fault when I was concerned about its whereabouts. There was not ONE server in here smiling or with a good attitude. I served and bartended for years, so I know that parties like this can be a nightmare. But this one was reserved, we showed up on time, and we tipped well. This is sad. read more

Ok, I really wasn't expecting much at all given the outside of the place BUT once I got inside it was a whole different story... The place is new so it's totally updated with nice flat screen HD TVs...ALSO loved that they have individual TVs at most of the booths too, which is always awesome if you want to watch your own thing. My friend didn't like his burger very much and I would tell by looking that the fries weren't good, another friend didn't finish her turkey pita-she didn't complain, but you kinda just knew....As far as the food-stick to the basics...they try to get fancy but I saw a pizza that looked pretty good...chicken fingers, etc. at least until they maybe get more business and up the anti on the food... It's rare that any of my friends goes to CJs unless it's to continue a night out after another bar closes. Because it's open late and close to Kona Grill, we head there because we're not quite ready to go home. CJ Mahoneys is an interesting place to people watch, NOT the place to go for a classy experience, complex cocktails, or a great selection of more than beers and mixed drinks. They have beer specials, and we often go for whatever is on special for the night. I have never eaten anything other than fries there out of sheer starvation and don't think I would eat here. The music is up-beat but there is no dancing, unless people are drunk and out of control. This is a decent place to watch a game or shoot pool if you're into that kind of thing. But I've seen better bars with a better crowd. Don't bother dressing up, it's a casual, low-key place to grab a drink. The music is loud though, so if you're planning on great conversation, save it for someplace else. The scantily clad girls get annoying, preferring to listen to any guy seated at your table whether or not you want a drink or have a question. It gets frustrating, they look young, and they make you slightly uncomfortable while they almost crawl ontor your table to talk to the guy who may seated next to you. Don't go here expecting more than a beer and a place to keep your night out going without driving far. read more

The homemade Jalapeno Poppers are a signature appetizer for me, made on site I think. Most of the menu is typical bar type selections, although they do run daily lunch and dinner specials that prove interesting. There are TV's everywhere! Some booths have their own mini TV's. There is a large protected patio area with comfortable seating during the nice weather. The servers are amazing and spot on with the orders and making you feel welcome. When sitting at the large long oval bar with TV's all around, the number of mixologist's running laps and serving with smiles will amaze you. Shout outs to Nicole, Sarah, Jacqueline, and Carolyn (to name just a few) for the laughs and great service. If you haven't met the irrepressible Benny, you will before you leave. They have a pretty decent selection at the bar. I was impressed with them having Basil Hayden available, amongst the other 10 or so bourbon selections. Pretty good wine, beers on tap that have seasonal rotations, and a serious bottled beer selection. I am rather new to the area (for work), but have met some pretty cool people here. I love the atmosphere, where you will find fans from many different areas of the country, if not the world since we have so many different types of businesses in the area. Love the Pittsburg fans, they are fun and know how to have a good time. Watching the Chicago fans, is like being a Lions fan, although they have won a Super Bowl ('85/'86 season). There are plenty of homers here too depending on the season (Wings, Pistons, Tigers, Lions, Michigan State, Michigan, etc.,.) so lots of clapping and cheering during any of the games. This has always been an old time favorite place to throw back and just relax. The staff is so friendly it is like you are just hanging out with friends. They check up on you often, use words of endearment (not uptight and stuffy like fine dining...lol) and don't roll their eyes as they walk away when you ask if they will make you a fresh pot of coffee at 10pm. :) The apps are generous and the fries actually come out hot...by the way..my friend the fries junkie loves the seasoned fries here. I can't have Cajun but the regular fries were very addicting to me. No complaints at all. The prices are very affordable and the food is good. There are several areas where a larger group can comfortably hang as well as a nice dining area with tables/booths. You have to take CJ Mahoneys for what it is, a sports BAR. For watching a game or sporting event it's great. Nice plasmas, and lots of them! And also individual tv's inside booths. The place is quite large too, never really have a problem finding a spot. Service can be hit or miss. Some nights we sit at the bar and don't need to ask for another beverage, some nights I feel like you have to sound a loud horn for them to come over. As far as the food goes, it's your basic bar fare. Nothing fancy, nothing special, if you expect more, go somewhere else. I would leave a zero review if i could. Went here Sunday evening after a late training session at Powerhouse Troy in the same strip. My girlfriend and i sat in the bar area as a sign specified it as open. Waited 5 minutes and had no server. We thought maybe the booth we were in wasn't too visible, so we moved to a table and another 5 minutes passed. As we got up to leave in frustration, a server finally showed up, but we were fed up. Two other servers were at a table rolling out flatware and definitely saw us, but one was braiding the others hair (perfect thing to see around flatware and food) so i guess they were busy. We also saw two employees walking around. One had an unlit cigarette in her mouth, so you know she was classy. When we left, they were sitting on the ground outside smoking and dropping a whole bunch of f bombs. Avoid this place. Troy is loaded with clean, great restraints. It wasn't hard to find better service and a cleaner establishment a half mile north of here on big beaver. read more

Wasn't the greatest experience I ever had. Went there for a work Christmas party and waited for a menu for 45 minutes. It was very loud in there where we were seated and was hard to talk to co workers. One of my co workers asked if we could order our food and the waitress said yeah whenever you want. We shouldn't have to to ask to order our food.. Also my glass of water sat empty for awhile and I had to flag a waitress down to ask for more. The ribs were really good though. read more

I guess I shouldn't be surprised because nobody seems to work here more than a month or two. Third time in a row that it's taken one of the waitresses over 15 to 20 minutes to come even notice me or give me a menu let alone take an order. Now it's Sunday night at 10 and they're not even busy. And then she has the nerve to tell me that it's only been four minutes and that I didn't know what I wanted. Seriously? This place has some nice daily deals. Got the sliders and beer for under 10. Service is uber slow though.

Every week we come here for dodgeball because it's the sponsored bar and it is consistently the worst service I've ever witnessed. No one greets us, no one comes to us for at least 15+ minutes, the waitresses takes our order and doesn't move from one spot. When I asked if we should sit somewhere else, she barely answered. We are 100p looking for a new bar to go to for the rest of the season. There's at least 12 people every time. We're respectful and tip. No reason to be ignored. read more

The food is typical bar food, but surprisingly they have a few vegetarian options. They have lots of TVs (including at the booths FTW!) and Detroit games can have sound.
