We've had them for a…read morefew weeks now and still every time I pass through them, I applaud myself for having found FCR Fence & Deck and having had the wisdom to move forward with their company. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

He is very communicative throughout the process and works efficiently while still maintaining a very high standard. It is clear he cares deeply about doing the job right. I hired him for two projects to restore wood that had been badly maintained over the years. From the start, he was upfront about realistic expectations and worked closely with me so the final result would be both beautiful and aligned with my personal taste, even with the challenges from past wear and damage. His process is meticulous. He carefully preps, conditions, and treats the wood so the finish looks great and will last. One of the projects he worked on was restoring our outdoor patio seating, which had been heavily worn down by the elements. It had become rough, uncomfortable to sit on, and even left little splinters. Jose transformed it completely. The wood is now smooth, almost velvet to the touch, and looks beautiful again. He also took the time to tighten loose planks so everything feels solid and well cared for. Very pleased with the work…read more First off, I spoke to a few different companies and most were only willing to replace the entire 60' fence, when all I wanted done was a partial repair of 3 panels that had been damaged by a huge tree stump. Also, while discussing the fence repair I brought up my busted side gate and he gave me a good price on a steel framed gate, which sounded much better than the wood framed one I had. Melvin, Eduardo, Mauricio, (and a 4th guys whose name I didn't get) did a great job. Clearly these guys are technicians and not just laborers. They measured twice (maybe 3 times) and cut once. Everything turned out great! I'll use them again and have already passed their contact info on to someone else.

California Fences (CA License #1099301) caused documented property damage to my private patio at…read more1900 Lynwood Dr Unit C in Pleasanton during a fence replacement project inside our HOA community. During removal of a fence post, their crew broke multiple patio pavers, displaced perimeter bricks, and exposed concrete footing. This patio was professionally installed and represented a significant investment. Photographic and video evidence of the damage has been preserved. The on-site supervisor stated there was "no way" to remove the post without causing damage. That statement is inaccurate. This is the second time fencing has been replaced at this property, and prior licensed contractors performed the same work without damaging the finished patio surface. Since the incident, I have: * Contacted the project supervisor multiple times * Left voicemail messages * Contacted the office directly * Attempted to reach ownership No response has been provided. As a licensed California contractor performing work within an HOA community, California Fences is responsible for property damage caused during the course of work. I have formally requested their General Liability insurance information and written confirmation of repair. I prefer resolution over escalation. However, continued non-response will leave me no option but to proceed through formal channels including CSLB complaint and civil recovery. I am requesting immediate contact to resolve this matter professionally.

I recently wrote to Chris Anthony regarding the work he did on our upstairs bathroom. After more than two years, I expressed to him how great a job he did. He replaced the tub, put in a new wall and installed marble on the shower walls. I specified what fixtures I wanted, (Moen), and he installed exactly what we ordered. I am expressly pleased with the four foot stainless steel grab bar on the shower wall. He replaced the toilet, even the ceramic floor tile. We also did the bathroom lights, and a nice exhaust fan, and medicine cabinet. Like I say, I am so happy even after several years. CLA has done two good projects for us. They did a great job installing a French Drain. We got multiple bids. There was the lowest and had great references. They solved the water problem we had with their design and its been fine for several years. We hired them for a small project (deck refinishing) and they did a great job. This involved removing sheetrock, cutting pipes, installing new valves, then replacing the sheetrock, applying plaster and texture, and finally painting. This was way above my pay grade, so I reached out to Steve. Within minutes, he got back to me. He asked for photos and provided an estimate with a range, depending on the complexity of what they found. Steve sent his crew over just a few hours later to begin the project. Victor and Edgar arrived, and within minutes, the Sawzall was going to town on our wall. I'll admit, I had my reservations, but it quickly became clear that these guys knew what they were doing. Each phase required a return visit to allow the individual coats of plaster to dry, etc. Our water was only turned off for about an hour or so during the entire project, and the finished product was very good. He recommended Debernardi. Debernardi responded quickly to my call and assessed the situation, agreeing with the plumber about the problem. They scheduled a repair in a few days, but had to delay due to a COVID watch limiting their personnel available. We rescheduled for the following week. A worker and Jeff, the owner, came on time (7:45am). We discussed the job, and I said do it for time at $134/hour and materials. The worker removed the siding, fixed the leak, replacing some plastic pipe, put on new siding and repainted (I had some exterior house paint), all by 2:30 pm. They did a fine job. I bought a new stainless steel sink along with a new garbage disposal because I wanted to upgrade…read morethe overall look of my kitchen. All of my kitchen appliances are stainless steel so I wanted my sink to match as well. My old white sink just didn't cut it and looked out of place. One of my best friends referred a contractor to me for the installation of my sink, garbage disposal and granite tile. I'll make a long story short, the contractor did a horrible job! First of all, he basically supervised and watched one of his workers install the sink and granite tile. He told me he couldn't do an undermounted sink because it would be to hard to install. He also told me he couldn't connect the dishwasher tube to the garbage disposal. The contractor said there has to be an air vent. I told him an air vent coming out of a sink is outdated. He told me an air vent is the only way to go. The contractor ended up drilling a huge hole in my new sink for the dishwasher air vent. The hole wasn't cut properly and looked horrible! When the other guy installed the granite it looked like crap! The granite was off level and looked very sloppy! They didn't even use the right grout material to glue down the granite tile. After the contractor and his friend finished the installation of my sink, I noticed several chips in the granite, off level granite, soft cocking that never hardened and pieces of tile missing towards the back of the sink! I decided to go with a Diamond Certified contractor. I should of went with someone more reputable and qualified in the first place. Of course your going to pay more but then again you get what you pay for. It's all about quality when it comes to getting work done on your home. I gave Kevin Abrew a call. I read a lot of good reviews about Kevin in my Diamond Certified Blue Handbook. I called and spoke to Shannon Abrew to set up a consultation. She was very nice and professional. Kevin came out the next day and took a look at my sink. He explained how he would fix my sink and give it a really nice clean look. A few days after I received a quote from Shannon through email. I scheduled the installation of my sink and granite tile a few weeks later. A contractor (Noel) who works for Kevin did the installation. He did an amazing job with the granite tile! The sink looks beautiful! Noel was able to connect the dishwasher tube to the garbage disposal. He installed a soap dispenser in place of the air vent. He even fixed the hole that was drilled in the sink. He also installed a black material piping for free which would prevent any water leaks in the future. Kevin stopped by once the job was completed and made sure everything was picture perfect. If you want quality, efficient and affordable work done to your home, I would definitely recommend Abrew Repair & Construction. I will definitely go through Kevin again when I decide to remodel my master bathroom. Thanks again Kevin for the easy going experience and great job!

Unfortunately it took me 10 years to write this. 2015, Abrew Construction did a fireplace remodel…read morewhile saving our original mantle several years back. As usual, the owner, Kevin Abrew, sells his business because that's his job. He really pushed his 5 star rating in the Better Business Bureau which is a scam. The BBB doesn't do anything if the business' clients are not satisfied. His employees did a fine job in the work they did, but his business practices were suspect. He was not upfront with any additional work and costs. When you give a customer a quote for repairing and repainting cracks in your stucco the logical assumption, if you were to add on repairing a few other cracks on adjacent walls, would be that they would also be painted. Well, you'd be wrong! He gave us a quote for the additional cracks and Mr. Abrew went ahead and had his guys repair the additional cracks on the adjacent wall. Then he gave us a bill that didn't include painting. When questioned about the missing paint, he stated that it wasn't on the quote. That would cost extra. Who gets ready to leave a job site with stucco patches and no paint??? Painting was conveniently left off the additional quote so he could then charge more money after we had already agreed to have the work done. Not a good business practice, but unfortunately a common practice. He also writes up his quotes in units. Ex: "Stucco outside of house 1 unit." (See attached pic). Any contractor that doesn't itemize their bill providing pricing does so so that you have no idea of how much you are being charged for each part of the job. So if you ask to remove some element of the work from the bill, you have no idea if the reduced price is on the level as there are no references to what you are being charged for. Again, not a good business practice. It keeps the customer in the dark having to trust that the contractor is being honest with what they are charging. He even charged me 3 units for "Waiting for inspectors." So how much is a unit? How much was I charged? Your guess is as good as mine. I will say the experience could have been worse and in the end the work was done right. As for hiring someone who is upfront, honest and not ready to argue with you....I'd pick someone else.

I initially had Brian come in to finished and texture my garage. He was very responsive and did a…read morereally nice job. Because of this, I had him come in and do some significant patching on the interior after a major remodel. Brian's team had initially come in and left a huge mess behind. The also didn't do what I had asked them to do. They had asked how low to hang the drywall above the shower pan and I told then 10" from the floor. They hung the whole bathroom 10" above the floor. Getting them back to fix this before tile showed up was not easy. There was also debris everywhere as well as the plastic that they left behind. I needed two subsequent visits to patch various access holes left by contractors. I couldn't be any more understated to say that getting Brian to respond was excruciatingly difficult. Once I did have his attention, his guys showed up and, again, missed things. Once the job was done and everything was painted, I discovered that the quality of his work was atrocious. I can clearly see every patch. One huge section of my bedroom has texture that is so bad that I'm going probably have to re-do my whole ceiling. The family room kitchen has so many obvious patches that it's also going to have to be re-done. There are also flat spots all over the size of dinner plates. On top of the shoddy work, I have never worked with anyone messier. There is mud EVERYWHERE. It's all over my walls, all over my baseboards, on my new cabinets, inside my speakers, all over my brand-new screens and all over my new hardwood floor. It really disgusts me how careless these guys are. I called Brian and, as usual, didn't receive a return call. So, I'll start with Yelp and then head to the BBB and CSLB and see if we can get Brian's attention that way. Brian, you should have called me back, now you have a much bigger problem on your hands.

Their bid was 30% higher than 2nd bidder, and I didn't negotiate for a competitive price because I wanted to see why they offered it at that range (a test trial for them), and they seem very interested and sincere in my pergola project (replacing 1 post, 2 beams & paint, etc.). Chris was the main contact and he was a great person to talk to. He gave me some ideas on how and why those materials were chosen while executing a safe and secure worksite. The crew included 2 carpenters (Chris was 1 of them) and a painter. They kept their tools well organized and maintained. They agreed on all of my contract terms and conditions. The carpenters worked patiently with dedication on the premium redwood post and pressure treated wood beams. They worked on a light shower rainy day. Everything was great. However, the paint job needed to reschedule for a dry sunny day. The painter did a fair quality job on the part that connected to my eave and post baseboard. Over painting without placing a masking tape to set the boundary between 2 colors. The paint skill and mindfulness are in doubt. I had to clean up those spots afterwards. Yes I agreed with the painter's saying "Nothing is perfect in this world." However, his statement also telling me that paint job was barely meeting a standard practice in my project. Suggestions: 1) invest in masking tapes (protective and appealing are essential to excellence). CRV Carpentry has been honest and responsive throughout my project.
