But wander into the store and you will be amazed at how many gift items are inside. So many, it is a bit dizzying at first! Here is what I saw: -Bright metal yard art - think giant coneflowers and flamingos and birds. -Dried and faux flowers. -Dish towels - I bought white ones with turquoise & orange cats all over. -Guest napkins. -Gnomes for Fall, for Christmas, for summer. -Candles. -Soaps. -Books. -Framed prints. -Jewelry. -Plants. -Pots. -Pillows. -Throw blankets. -Wind-charms. -Greeting cards. -Chocolate. Sprinkled throughout are seasonal decorations. On this day, there were lots of fall and Halloween items as well as Christmas trees and ornaments. When it's berry picking season, I head to Morning Shade Farm! They have so many varieties -…read moreblackberries, boysenberries, Marion berries, elderberries, raspberries. The blackberries and Marionberries, my fave. They are big, plump, and bursting with flavor. Plus, they are so much easier to pick at a farm where the bushes are staked to a trellis vs. the wild ones I pick on the side of the road. Don't get me wrong, I do pick the wild ones, but I'm usually covered in juice and my hands and arms get all pricked. When I'm here, I pick a huge bucketful so I can make pies. The berries are so sweet I just add a little sugar and lemon juice and the pies are perfect. Also pick enough so I can enjoy some plain, by the handfuls. Their blueberries are sweet and delicious, too! I make space in my freezer so I can have them throughout the year. If you don't want to pick your own, no worries, they sell containers and flats in their cute country store along with other food and gift items. This family farm is so picturesque! It's a lovely setting and it's well run with friendly staff. If you are picking fruit, definitely go in the morning to avoid the sun beating down on your back. And wear a hat!

There is a fantastic nursery out in Hubbard that I have been returning to the past few years…read morebecause the plants are so healthy and unusual . It's about a 30 minute drive from my place in Tigard. The first time I went there, I realized that the owners have a huge plant booth at the Beaverton Farmer's Market where I have been supporting them for years. The hanging baskets are not the run of the mill big box store baskets, the colors and plants are terrific and unique. The typical annuals and perennials are there, but come in colors that you wouldn't see at other plant shops. I ended find a trunked yucca, only seen it once before in someone's mediterranen style garden in SE Portland. I picked it for a friend's birthday present since she has a large space with loads of sun. The owner was so enthusiastic when I confirmed what the plant was and he shared how it needs to be cared for. Hands down, highly recommend this nursery and the complimentary red vines can only help with the shopping. Also, if you want to make a day of it, there's a U-Pick strawberry field near buy as well as a winery.
