Read poor reviews before coming here. I recently visited this dental office after being referred through Covered California. The office itself was clean and the dental assistant was kind and helpful. My initial exam and X-rays showed no major issues--no cavities, just a need for a standard deep cleaning and possibly minor gum work on one tooth. During the visit, we even discussed a longer-term plan that included orthodontic treatment (braces), which I was open to pursuing. However, my experience completely changed when I was brought to discuss treatment and pricing. I was presented with a plan totaling around $3,500, with approximately $2,500 out of pocket. This included multiple visits and a "laser treatment" at each appointment that was not covered by insurance. When I asked if a standard deep cleaning (which I've had done before without laser treatment) was an option, I was told that this was my only option. No one consulted the dentist or explored alternatives, and I was not given any explanation as to why a standard deep cleaning could not be performed. I was essentially told this was the treatment plan and that if I didn't agree, I could go elsewhere. I'm 33 years old and fully capable of understanding my treatment options, but I felt talked down to and dismissed rather than engaged in a clear, respectful discussion about care choices. Because of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable moving forward with additional treatment plans here, including braces, as I now have concerns about being upsold on procedures that may not be necessary. I have no issue paying for necessary treatment, but I do expect transparency, explanation, and options. Being presented with a costly, non-covered add-on as the only choice without justification is not acceptable. I left feeling upset and uncomfortable and will be seeking care elsewhere. Very unprofessional. I was continuously pressured into spending my own money that my insurance didn't cover and it was very insulting to keep telling them "I don't have the money for that". It was like they wanted to scare me into buying the implant. They told me "if you would've done this when we said u should've you wouldn't need all this work" when they clearly knew I didn't have the money. Very uncomfortable and also they let their assistant do surgery which maybe that was just for me because they knew I wasn't gonna spend money because I literally don't have it. In early 2024, I received three crowns, $1,358 each at this office. Despite multiple follow-up visits regarding persistent pain created from the dental work done and bite misalignment, the issues were never resolved. After numerous attempts requesting her address and correct the issues she caused, she refused, a second-opinion evaluation by a new provider confirmed the following: Retained Subgingival Cement: A large piece of dental cement was discovered and removed from deep under the gum line, which had caused chronic localized inflammation, continuous bleeding and bone loss. Non-Serviceable Margins: The crowns were found to have significant overhanging margins (often called "mushroom" overhangs), making them impossible to clean and necessitating full replacement. Occlusal Trauma: The bite misalignment was so severe it cause bruising to the tooth nerve resulting in prolonged and substantial pain biting and jaw issues. A formal complaint has been filed with the Dental Board of California (4402026007513), and a Quality of Care grievance is active with Blue Shield of California. This is a follow-up to Dr. Cho's response to my review in which she claims that they could not find my name on their system and therefore my review must have been intended for someone else. This is not the first time that I have seen this response from Dr. Cho to negative reviews on various sites. I also noticed that Dr. Cho has no problem with accepting positive reviews, nor does she tell people that people who have given positive reviews that she "can't seem to find you in the system" and "must have seen someone else." This office finds ways to go around insurance and upcharge you for things. My insurance said my crowns should have been $300 per their contract with her. She told me she wouldn't put in the type of crowns that my insurance would cover, because they had metal. I believed her and paid her "discounted" price of $2500 (I found out after the fact that this was untrue, my insurance does pay for non-metal crowns). They always found things to charge me for at my "free" (per insurance) cleanings. Dr. Cho wanted to see my custom night guard and said it was going to ruin my teeth and made a "free" adjustment. I used it for a few nights after that and had so much pain that I had to order a new one. Oh, also, I told her I was in a lot of pain after her crown and she said it would go away. It has not. I went in for a teeth cleaning only and as the doctor looked at my pictures she made comments on what I need done. As she continued with the comments I continued telling her I would love to have perfect teeth, but I'm on SSA and can't afford to have any of her suggestions done right now. I was then taken to another office and Miriam proceeded to tell me everything the doctor "wants me to do". I told her I could not afford to have any of these things done to my teeth. She continued going through the list and saying "but this is what the doctor wants you to do. I finally said, "I don't care what she wants, don't you understand, I can't afford it." She wouldn't stop and I felt trapped and finally said, "fine I'll do it" which was obviously the wrong thing to do. On my way home I was thinking about the conversation and called Miriam and told her that I felt pressure to do it so I agreed then, told her once again I could not afford it. She first told me she would have to wait to talk to the doctor to see if they would approve the charge back to my card. It took two weeks before that actually happened. Dr. Cho has a beautiful office and state of the art equipment which makes me think this is why they were pressuring me to pay $6,000+ for the dental work she was proposing. Some completely unnecessary at my age. They really need to stop the upscale selling especially to seniors. I would never recommend this practice to my friends or family. read more

Honestly, I stuck with this office for a year because I had switched dental plans to an HMO in order to look into braces for my bottom teeth. Adult braces are expensive. However, instead of giving me a consultation on straightening my bottom teeth, they told me that I needed a deep cleaning, which includes the use of their very expensive CO2 laser (not covered by insurance). I hesitantly agreed to this course of action as it had been a few years since my last deep cleaning. BTW, my insurance does cover it and it would have been ~$500 for the deep cleaning but the laser popped it up to a whopping $2000 which I had to open a CareCredit account to pay off over a year because it was an unexpected expense. When they were running my credit, the receptionist was like, "Oh, you make enough. You'll be fine." Uh, okay, thanks. The hygienist (who was pleasant) completed the deep cleaning and laser treatments and set me up to come in every 4 months instead of 6. My insurance doesn't cover that so I had to pay extra because it's for periodontal instead of routine. She gave me a fluoride treatment that is covered but the receptionist charged me the wrong amount. My HMO has it for $X and she didn't check and charged me $Y. I pointed it out after requesting an itemized list of charges and she was like, well we can keep that balance and make sure you get it back on your next visit. I should have just asked her to cut me a check. My next visit came and went. Dr. Cho came in and was like, "Oh, we should have looked into braces for you before your wedding." Uh, well that's why I was here initially but you wanted to address my deep cleaning before all that. She apparently only knows teeth. Beside manner is beyond her. The hygienist (who was different this time) insisted on another fluoride treatment. I refused the fluoride treatment because it seemed excessive to have it more than once a year. That's fine but I also didn't get my balance back from them either. They still owe me but I decided that I didn't want to return to this office again. My insurance is now a PPO dental plan and I plan on taking myself to a different dentist. Suddenly my gums were healthier and it seems like the course of treatment was successful. I went in for an appointment today as a new patient which was intended for a cleaning. They proceeded with exams and photos, but no cleaning. I was then brought into a room where the staff proceeded to use typical high pressure sales tactics. I was told I needed a crown, costing $2000, my portion would be $1650. Apparently I also need Perio Trays for $950, although I do not have periodontal disease, so of course this would not be covered by insurance. Interestingly, they said they couldn't do my cleaning until I agreed to get the crown done. Since I work in healthcare, I asked for the codes and immediately called my insurance company, as well as my prior dentist. They both explained this provider was using up-coding in order to get around the rates for crown procedures which they've agreed with insurance to be in their network. A normal ceramic crown should cost around $1500 (confirmed with previous dentist) and my insurance would require me to pay $500. Watch out for providers like this, check in advance if they are up coding to get around the agreed rates THEY have negotiated with insurance. Do not sign a treatment plan without checking first. read more

This place was a nightmare!!!! I have read all the 1 star comments and completely agree with them 100%. (If only I knew sooner)... I had an extremely unpleasant and frustrating experience with this dental office. I ended up here because of a new insurance and one chipped tooth from an accident that I wanted fixed. I went in for one chipped tooth and they said I needed 8 crowns total!!! During my appointment to install my 2 crowns the whole staff was in disarray. Pieces of the instruments and tools were dropped on my face several times, water splashed all over my face, neck, and clothes. Dr. Cho lost patience with her staff and yanked the tools from them. She was clearly upset and started doing everything herself. The whole time she was drilling I was worried she might take her frustration out on my teeth. One crown on my upper right was not fitting well so she started shaving my teeth on the lower right to make it fit and she told me that I needed a crown on my bottom teeth anyway! I did not agree to get more crowns !!! I was shocked and just wanted my appointment to be over so I could quickly find a new dentist! I had only booked two crowns and the receptionist Maryam kept telling me I needed a root canal as well when the actual doctor herself told me I did NOT need one!!! I was confused why the receptionist was giving me dental diagnoses when she's supposed to be focused on her job as a receptionist. Maryam was very insistent and condescending when it came to discussing paying for dental work. She sounded like a desperate passive aggressive used car salesman. This whole practice is a SCAM! I started going to Dr. Cho because of my insurance. Yes, the practice is very pretty. The staff is very attentive but the up-selling that they do is ridiculous. They charge an exorbitant amount for fluoride treatment after a cleansing. My previous dentists have always included this in the fee. They take pretty pictures of your teeth and then try to up sell you on other services. I had my doubts so I took my radiographs and medical records to my previous dentist for a second opinion. I am more than willing to invest in my health but was told that the thousands of dollars worth of treatments recommended by Dr. Cho were not needed. When I returned for a dental cleaning, Dr. Cho told me that if I did not trust her I should seek medicail care elsewhere. Dr. Clair Cho's office is a DeltaCare USA HMO provider, but DOES NOT follow the fee schedule and inflates the prices. They will not fully itemize the treatment plan with dental codes & prices so you can not arrive at the same prices of the fee schedule. Dr. Alyssa Kim also claimed I needed crown lengthening on both an inlay and crown. When I asked Dr. Kim why in my case I needed crown lengthening to be done, she referred me to the billing staff, Miriam and Miriam referred me back to Dr. Kim. Miriam also claims that every crown and inlay/onlay from their office would have this crown lengthening procedure done... It's my opinion this office is adding this item to elevate their bottom line. I've never once been told I need this service by any other dental provider. Miriam claimed on several occasions their office is too busy to field billing question or submit a Delta predetermination. My insurance changed and I was assigned to this office and I should've know just by the first visit it was going to be bad. I was shuffled around and shown the "wall of achievements " by Dr.Cho. Apparently I was in need of a deep clean- which I was ok with BUT I was repeatedly told I needed braces and veneers - look I have good straight teeth. I never in my life was told I needed braces much less veneers. And I quote I was told " you're such a pretty girl - but you need to fix your teeth" Seriously? Ok fast forward to my next cleaning I call before the appointment and ask to please not bombard me with braces and veneers requests. The receptionist was very sweet and understanding and when I arrived the res carpet was rolled out. I was then introduced to a NEW hygienist who has never met me tells me my teeth and gums are stellar after my cleaning and exam. I was quite happy - it was the first time I'd ever felt comfortable in this office. Then comes in Dr. Cho. She comes into examine me and starts to exclaim that my gums have AWFUL recessions and tells the receptionist to come look and she asks the hygienist WHY I wasn't told about this. ( after my clean bill of health from the hygienist??) The receptionist gives the doctor a look and DR.Cho says loudly and smugly " im not TALKING about veneers or braces ..this is DIFFERENT. She tried to tell me that I have the beginning stages of gum disease and NEED to be treated multiple times by her very expensive laser machine for gum disease. (Spoiler: my REAL dentist said I don't have anything of the sort) She saw a growing taste bud on my tongue and tried to tell me it could be a cancerous mouth growth and to have it checked. (Not her area of expertise) She then told me I need bone grafts and a sinus lift just to PUT IN implants. My real dentist once again said: WRONG. If getting implants later I may need bone grafts but no work will be done on my sinuses. A dentist shouldn't even touch sinuses. Lastly, I was told my sinus cavity is black and I have a sinus infection. Which is not true lol. Im fine. Not sick at all. I was also told that my bite is so messed up that ill shatter all my front teeth by the time im 30. Again another scare tactic and a lie. Horrible dental office...the techs took forever to do simple X-rays. The dentist said I needed three crowns, and one on a tooth that had nothing wrong with it! Then preceded to tell me I am on my way to gum disease, I am 26. I just needed a simple cleaning done and they said I would probably need a deep cleaning which charges extra! They took me into their treatment plan room to discuss price. She wanted to charge me way above my insurance co pays. One crown was 1500 dollars.....they gave me a treatment plan that was for 3500 dollars. It was absurd! I called my insurance and said I shouldn't pay more than 550 for a crown!! They try to make you believe you need more dental work done than you need and ASAP! I went to another dentist for a second opinion. They gave me a normal cleaning no extra charge, and said my gums were good, I only needed one crown! So glad I got a second opinion from a great dental office! This office is a scam. Our experience is similar to the many others that have given this office a one star rating. Do not go here! They are dishonest, charge you prior to work being done, and they recommend an upgraded, very expensive deep cleaning for every patient rather than the cleaning that is covered by insurance. I have had a lot of dental work over the years. Dr. Cho has been the best Dentist for me for the past two years. The office staff and dental assistants all work together very well. Kimberly, the hygienist, is gentle and thoughtful. I like wearing the headphones with my music on while she's cleaning my teeth and gums. Well I was assigned a new dentist with new insurance. I have an HMO plan. Made the appt and was amazed at the size of this office with only one dentist??? It Must be 3000SF and have 12-14 rooms. I can only think she accepts HMO patients in an effort to get as many people into her office as possible to begin the UP SELL Tactics. Note I went in for a 6 month cleaning (ok it had been 8 months) & I was not experiencing any problems when I walked in. After x-rays and photos she suggested a plan for over $7000-- I go in for a cleaning and get hit with $7000. I should have read the other reviews first. I walked out feeling horrible and then when I did look at her reviews better. I will be going back to a PPO plan and back to my past dentist. Did not care for the smug attitude either. I can't believe her good reviews are legit??? I saw one review claiming it had been 9 years since a dentist visit-- he must have had a $30,000 plan but he gave 5 Stars?? I love that I can come in for a crown and have it made right here in their office so I don't need to leave work twice. I honestly have always hated the dentist but I have finally found a great one that I plan to stick with! They even offer you sun glasses, headphones and a blanket to help you during the dental work. Referred by a friend, we've had such a wonderful experience visiting Dr. Cho's offices. This was our first visit to the Mareblu location and it's a beautiful and spacious office with exceptional comforts professional and yet cozy. Very welcoming. We can't rave enough about their staff. They're found on the second floor. Immaculate office. Thank you so much for such a comfortable visit to the dentist. Our son was treated and cared for so well. It's a contrast from our previous dentist our son had only because it's more geared towards young adults and older. We love our previous dentist (previously kid-friendly with DVD's and kid gadgets and treats) but we love Dr. Cho's office as well. They have many amenities that allow for in-house cosmetic dentistry work if needed. For our checkup and cleaning, they were thorough and very patient and gentle with our son's cleaning. This is my first review on yelp. I found Dr.Cho's office through friend of mine. He always convinced me to change a dentist over 2 years and I resisted. However, finally I made an appointment through Whitney, had cleaning and fillings done so far with Dr.Cho and hygienist Kimberly. I actually had been going for regular cleaning and exam on time every 6months. The previous dentist never mentioned that I had cavities and grinding my teeth. Dr.Cho showed my cavities through the photo and x-rays that they took and explained very throughly. In general, all the front and back staffs were so friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. The quality of care I received was CRAZY! I have had a ton of work done, and been to many dentists. I have to say I am very impressed with Dr.Cho's dental office.
