There are lots of lanes for lap swimming when the kids aren't playing water polo.
    Cherie S.

Attention aquaholics! There's nothing fancy about this pool, but it's a great value for lap swimmers. There are warm outside showers (like beach showers) and very basic locker rooms and bathrooms. Adults are $4 per swim, and kids (15 & under), disabled and seniors are $2. Frequent swimmers can get 10 swims for $30. The pool is a great temperature, not too chlorinated, and has a dedicated parking lot for about 20 cars. Lifeguards are on duty and you can use their kick-boards and pull-buoys. There's also big timing clock. Check the schedule for when kids play water polo and other activities (currently at 2:30pm) as they only have a few lanes open and it gets busy. Good things come to those who swim. Keep calm, and put your goggles on. Come and make a splash! I posted a pic of the schedule through June 2016.

Watch out for the lifeguards. They are rude, unfriendly and on-edge. They just yell at people and assume they're doing something wrong.

We love the pool, obstacle course, and amenities (showers, etc). We arrive at opening and always find parking. Here's why I'm giving 3 stars and may not renew my pass for next year. The fun you have is dependent on who is on staff that day. I don't know what happened between this year and last, but this year is not great. Some lifeguards and people at the desk are so rude. On one hand, I'm sympathetic because I know these jobs can be seasonal and you have to train new people, deal with customers, safety, etc, etc. But they create so much confusion and then they're rude when you follow the rule someone else on staff gave you. Then you tell them another person told you to do that and they act like you pulled this info out of your own butt. Last time I was there, I was going back and forth from the pool to the desk because the lifeguard and desk staff couldn't agree on whether my kids needed wristbands. Like I said, if this is just confusion between newer staff, that's fine, I feel for you. But they were both SO rude about it and were getting annoyed with me ‍ This is just the recent example, but it's now probably half our visits that there's some weird triangulation between me and two staff members telling me different things. There are some people who work here that are awesome and friendly. When they do swim tests, they speak clearly to the kids and give instructions/expectations clearly. They're straightforward and friendly when we check in. I think he might be a manager (he wears the pit vipers and has facial hair), he's super friendly although I don't see him that much any more. Sorry I don't know their names, but always relieved when they're there (and coincidentally they all seem to be on the same page with the rules/expectations ).

Since that first day, we have both spent thousands of hours there. He now takes his daughters there as he teaches them how to swim, and I still swim there 6x a week. As to the details of the pool: It's 50 meters long, and is usually set up in the short course layout. There is a shallow end that gets a fair amount of instructional use by the staff trained to give swim lessons. Lifeguards are attentive, and contrary to what one reviewer stated, they are not allowed to take a speaker or headphones into the tower with them. The water temperature is always between 79.5 and 80.5 degrees. There are masters swim programs 6 days a week. Instructional and competitive swim and water polo programs are present in abundance in the afternoon and evening hours.

He's combination lifeguard, maintenance I would say engineering just covering all the bases at the pool...... It is a very pleasant atmosphere seems to be in good order Philip

Not only, but I can't count how many awesome evenings I've spent there getting a great workout in the pool, then just vegging out in the hot tub while watching the sunset or admiring view of the canyon... Truly a special place to swim. The layout consists of a main building where you have to register to get in (either using your student ID or buying a membership). The main building is also where you will find a rock wall climbing center (i've never been but I know every once in a while they have days where students climb free) as well as your showers/locker rooms, and a great little gym. When i lived on this campus i used to prefer the Canyone View Gym to RIMAC simply because nobody seemed to use it, and I never had to wait on anyone to do my workout. Literally straddling the pool building are two olympic sized pools and the legendary hot tub. The pools are heated, with lights that turn on when needed, as well as 2 diving boards on the east pool. The crowd that goes here is good at respecting the "slow on the left, fast on the right" lane rule, and when it gets a little crowded people are very respectful when sharing lanes. In fact, if you are super slow like me, its totally fine to just go to the shallow end and work on your swimming for a while - thats what i did for a month or so and improved greatly! Nobody every gave me even the slightest of negative looks. Finally, I cannot stress how importantly awesome the hot tub is. Its large (you could probably fit 15 people in there), clean, HOT, and positioned perfectly so that you can go and relax after any sort of work out. In my experienced opinion, (and that of many others) this is THE best aquatic facility and THE best hot tub in all of La Jolla, possibly all of San Diego. Right now with absolutely no affiliation to UCSD you'd have to pay 120$/3 months, and an alumni pays $100/qtr. Its really not that bad - I strongly recommend this as your next workout choice.
