The obstacle course was a big hit and great way for the children to keep busy in the water Big playground in the water

This place was amazing, it was our first time attending the plunge. We were greeted and Arianna helped us out. We also had Darion come with excellent service to help us get situated. This place was 100/10. The water was perfect, place had seating, showers and basketball hoop and towels if needed. It was a great atmosphere for children. Not sure how we never heard of the plunge before! This is heaven for kids (and for parents)! We got a family pass for 2 hours for 4 of us. Price was only $60 and included the pools, fitness area, and sauna. The kids loved the inflatable obstacle course! They have lifeguards which gives parents peace of mind. There are chairs and tables near the pool that allows you to monitor the kids. There is free parking available at the back. Another plus is that it is located at the Belmont park so the fun never stops!

The obstacle course is really fun for all ages! The water was the perfect temperature and the atmosphere is so relaxing.

The staff made all the difference in throwing a birthday party at the Plunge! They were super helpful, friendly and always quick to respond via email. Our son and daughter have both had birthdays there during winter months and it's perfect every time!

Ask the Community - Plunge San Diego

I know parking is crazy around summertime, but how is parking in November? I am looking to book a party for the VIP Section for about 50 people.

Since we share parking with the beach goers, parking is definitely the busiest during spring break and summer break, or when the temperature is 90+ degrees inland. November is usually relatively easy to find parking, but for all parties on the…

Are towels provided or bring your own towels?

Towels are provided for members free of charge, otherwise we rent towels for day guests for $2.

Is this a public pool? Can one just show up or do you need reservations and tickets online?

You can just show up during the open recreational pool hours and purchase a pass for the number of hours and number of people you want. https://plungesandiego.com/rates/

How deep is the water where the obstacle course is located over?

The water around the obstacle course is up to 4.5ft deep. Guests under 52" must either wear a lifejacket (provided free of charge) or must pass a swim test.

Is it difficult to find parking here?

Parking certainly depends on the time of year, weather and day of the week. Typically on weekdays there aren't too many difficulties with parking, but weekend afternoons get pretty busy with the beach traffic. We have 3 large free public parking…

How deep is the shallow end? Is there a spot in the pool that is safe for toddlers?

The shallow end has two staircases that enter into 2.5 feet of water and a large island for toddlers to hang out at. The shallow end goes to a maximum depth of 4.5 feet and the deep end has a maximum depth of 6 feet.

Do they have birthday party events for kids?

We offer a lot of birthday and event options at the Plunge. During our operational day there are 3 different party options and we also offer private buy outs. This year we will be hosting over 1,000 birthdays and events at the Plunge, so it's a very…

Can anybody show up and pay at the entrance or how does that work?

Yes, the pool is open to the public for day passes. You can purchase these at our front desk. :)…

What time is the pool available for kids to swim and do the obstacles?

The obstacle course is open from Noon-6pm everyday in the shallow end and we are adding a more advanced obstacle course in the deep end on the weekend afternoons soon! :)…

Does the pool feel warm enough?

We keep the water heated to 82 degrees year round and it fluctuates between 82-84 degrees based on the outside temperature. During the summer months the water will feel refreshing and during the colder months the water feels warmer. We have found…

Do you have to sign up to swim for fun or can you just show up?

Admission to the Plunge is available until we reach capacity. Once capacity is reached, then we start a waitlist. Lap lanes are available on a first come first serve basis, and swimmers are encouraged to lane share and circle swim. If there are…

Is there a price list anywhere?

Children, Seniors and Military can purchase a day pass for $12 and Adults are $15. Infants 2 and Under are $5. If you aren't swimming, then we charge a $5 Facility Pass for access to everything except for the pool. Our memberships start at $45 per…

When will Plunge San Diego Reopened?

    The pool has re-opened!

How much does it cost for senior citizens to use the pool?

For senior citizens above the age of 65, admission is $12/day.

I've…read moregot three kids, we've tried three different swim school setups, and this is the first one that feels genuinely organized instead of chaotic. The structure is real. Every class has a clipboard, progress notes, and a clear sense of where your kid is headed next. They move through real developmental tranches, not vibes. The pool itself is huge, warm, and the entire room is heated to tropical levels so kids never shiver through a lesson. It's so warm that I personally refuse to sit poolside, but the kids are thrilled. The locker room situation is elite. Two dozen stalls at minimum, which means no waiting, no crowding, no post lesson meltdown because someone else is taking forever. Instructors aren't just thrown in the water and forgotten. They're watched, coached, and evaluated by a team that clearly cares about consistency. A lot of the negative reviews here come from one time visits where the kid was miserable. And honestly, that's not a Big Blue problem. Learning to swim is scary. You're in the water with a stranger doing something brand new. All three of my kids struggled at the beginning everywhere we went. YMCA, Callan, you name it. Big Blue has been the smoothest of the bunch. Bigger facility, easier parking, better locker room flow, calmer energy. Are all instructors perfect? No. That's true anywhere. But across the whole journey this has been the least stressful experience I've had as a parent in the swim school world. You can't call the front desk directly because everything routes through the central call center, but the app is simple and the staff on site are always friendly and accommodating. If something goes sideways, just show up and talk to them. They fix things without attitude. My kids love swim day. I'm grateful for the warm welcome, the structure, and the easygoing vibe. Thank you Big Blue.

Mind you, My son is autistic and we got very lucky to have had the same instructor for almost 6 months. He obviously started off his swim lessons a little nervous and apprehensive but quickly warmed up. Sadly our coach doesn't work here anymore. For the past 3 weeks my son has had a new instructor. Last week we had the pleasure of experiencing coach Denise. She was absolutely amazing, extremely patient. I must've thanked her so many times for being so great with my son. Well today she had not been there and that's okay but coach Frankie stepped in to teach the class and right off the bat was annoyed, not compassionate of the fact that my son isn't used to her and she was so aggressive in her approach to try to get my son to swim. He was screaming, crying and the session basically ended in her discriminating against my son and his special needs. Saying "I'm not going to do this with him, or put up with the screaming, he's obviously upset" I immediately pulled my baby out of the pool and told her how inpatient she was and that it wasn't a good fit for us either. Instead of trying to get my son to warm up to her and be playful and allow him to trust her first since it was the first time he was ever in her class she just threw her hands up and said get him out of my class basically. We both left in tears and I spoke to Ivan the general manager who tried to make things right but I just can't get over the fact that as mothers it is our job to advocate for our children especially the ones who can't speak up for them selves . She has no business being around people let alone children. I sat in the parking lot balling my eyes out for 30 minutes after over how mistreated we were by this woman. These are some of the things coach Frankie said to my son today in swim class. "You're going to leave that wall one way or another" "You grabbing onto me isn't helping yourself" "I appreciate you trying to float on your back but that's not what we're doing right now" I really hope no one else has to go through what my son and I went through today by coach Frankie!

I started swimming for exercise a few months ago after higher impact activities weren't working for my body anymore, and I quickly noticed I had no idea what I was doing, even though I'd learned how to swim as a kid. I felt like I was flailing around in the pool, couldn't swim for more than 15 minutes without feeling exhausted, and couldn't breathe correctly. Basically I could survive in the pool, but thriving wasn't even a possibility. After only a few lessons with Kristina, I feel more confident, I'm understanding how to breathe without freaking out, and I'm becoming more aware of how my body moves in the water. She takes an individualized approach to teaching and offers useful feedback in a kind, compassionate way. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Kristina, and I highly recommend her coaching, whether you're just learning to swim or you're already an aquatic badass and want to get even better.
