This is not a great restaurant. It fulfills the needs of someone staying here. Servers are really nice. The French fries are delicious and so is the ranch dressing. Crab cakes and steak are not worth the price. You can go to a local restaurant around here and get much better quality at a lesser rate. There are two different sections to the restaurant. We stayed here at The Inn which is where the restaurant is located. There does seem to be a staff shortage issue which I've read before. The wait was a little slow to place my to go order and to get my food took a little while too but I wasn't in a hurry so it didn't really bother me. I wasn't very hungry and I have Celiac Disease and have to avoid gluten so my options were limited. I ordered a piece of grilled chicken and a baked potato. The chicken must have been cooked in a pan or flat top because it almost appeared to have a little crisp to it which I liked. The baked potato was cooked nicely. I would say the quality was average just based on what I got. I would probably try it again. read more

I wish I could say this place was good but I wasn't impressed at all. My family and I visited during a vacation to Atlantic Beach. We were having trouble finding somewhere to eat but this place had good hours. My husband wanted to try the clam dip and was really excited about it. Unfortunately, it was so garlicky that it was inedible. We all tried it and all said it was bad. I NEVER send food back, but I had to ask them to take it back and remove it from our bill. It was that bad. For our meal I got shrimp and grits. It was decent. The shrimp was a little overcooked, but the sauce was good. My sister got the shrimp Alfredo and said it was good. My mom got spaghetti with meat sauce and it just had some meat dumped on top of it, it wasn't mixed in with the sauce. It was edible buy nothing special. My husband got the Mahi Mahi and said it wasn't very good. I have to admit he is a very picky eater though. One other issue was that you only get one free refill on drinks. I thought that was a strange policy and have never run across that before. The glasses were full of small ice, so there wasn't a lot of soda. They did bring us a carafe of diet coke since 3 of us were drinking it. My husband got lemonade and they brought him a refill. There are so many good restaurants in Atlantic Beach that I can't really recommend this one. But if you are like us and couldn't find a place open, you can try this place. read more

Have been here before. Last March 2021 to be exact and we really enjoyed the place. Wow. What a disaster a couple of weeks makes. Staying at the hotel. Came in to get dinner tonight at 7:15. Clearly the hostess needs training. Terrible customer service. Decided to place a to go order. Woman says - we will call the room number. Keep in mind the restaurant closes at 8pm these days. We go to our room - crickets. Finally at 8:20 we go down and the door to the restaurant is closed?!?!?! We go back to the room and call the front desk. Thankfully the front desk person checks for us and says it will be 5 more minutes or so. We come back down and grab our food. Food is ok. Service terrible. And we now realize we have been over charged. What a rip off. DO NOT COME HERE UNTIL THEY GET QUALIFIED staff. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced for the area. I had the blackened mahi mahi and a cup of the Rhode Island-style (clear broth) clam chowder. Both were good, as was my wife's vegetable beef soup (and I've never had a veggie beef soup that I've actually liked before). All of this would have been enough for a four star rating. This restaurant is hit or miss. The crab dip was too heavy on the cream cheese however the blackened mahi-mahi was perfectly cooked and seasoned. *2 Hour Culinary Experience* 2 Stars for 2 Hours and the Hush Puppies. Identifying Information: Monday Evening: 5:00pm First to be seated in restaurant 4 people in our party. Seated and drink order was taken: Water Mountain Dew Dr. Pepper Lemonade 3 other tables were seated (they received their drinks). Drink order Retaken by second waitress. No remorse from the first waitress. Second waitress changes clothes. No lie. 15 minutes later-Drinks arrive while other table begins eating. Ordered Food: 2 Shrimp Scampi Chicken Tenders and Fries Mac and Cheese with Fried Ice Cream 2 Tables finish food...we receive order of hush puppies. POSITIVE SIDE NOTE: The Hush Puppies were delicious. Fast forward to an hour and a half later.... As the waitress's hair brushes effortlessly along the pasta and bread...the Food arrives (minus the fried ice-cream). The 3 year-old casually screams "ice-cream" as the waitress wipes the hush puppy substance from the corners of her mouth, still chewing the delicious fried sweetness. As a hair is set aside from the Shrimp Scampi, one last bite is taken as the sound of screaming "ice-cream" lingers in air. All but one other table have completed their meal, paid, and left. My friend Karen is now considering speaking with the manager. I remind her that there is no manager. Check comes...no ice cream. 3 year-old reminds waitress of "ICE-CREAM." Only other table left eating is freaking out...Ken (male version of Karen) is losing it. Something about his salad. Paid the check (15% tip). Waited. Still no ice cream. "Karen" is frantically looking around. 7:15 pm. Hiccup Hilly (waitress) finally brings the to-go box. Our Vanila ice-cream has arrived. She needs to slow her roll on the hush puppies and dew. First to be seated, last to leave. "If you ain't first, you're last!" We were both! We're Winning! Group of staff hiding in the hallway wished us a good evening. Friendly folk they were. Let me start by saying that this restaurant is under new management since the last reviews were given. The hotel/restaurant were sold and they're trying to start fresh with new staff and menu - and they're doing an excellent job! We've been here under the former management and while the food and dining experience was ok then, it was phenomenal this time around. Chelsea was our server every time and she went above and beyond! She remembered our "likes" from one meal to another and made sure we had everything we wanted/needed. We chatted easily with her and we're able to cut up and laugh with her, which is just our style. The chef came out and explained the changes taking place and sincerely wanted to know our thoughts on our dinner so we told him.....everything was wonderful! My boyfriend's ribeye was cooked just right and had an excellent flavor. He said his fries were very good as was his salad. I had a shrimp and crab cake combo with baked potato and slaw and ate every bite, which I rarely ever do. The shrimp were good but the crab cake was the best I've ever had out anywhere!! It tasted just like the ones my mom made years ago and I've never found any that compare...until now. My only suggestion would be that it be a little thicker....but flavor-wise, it was perfection!! If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not it. The space/decor is very basic and simple, and the food is straight up good at a good price! My only suggestion would be to dim the lights at diadd some oil lamps/candles to the table, maybe add some light jazz or otherwise laidback/soft music (maybe even some light reggae?) during the dinner hours. Maybe add some tall/tropical plants throughout the room and in between tables - the tables are already a great distance apart and the plants would just add a sense of greater privacy. Keep the upbeat music for breakfast /lunch. Breakfast is also excellent and very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend this place, even if you aren't staying at The Inn! read more

Went for Sunday breakfast. We looked up the menu online earlier in the week and saw that they had Eggs Benedict and Steak and eggs. We were so excited! When we got there and saw the menu, no Eggs Benedict and no steak and eggs. If you are going to have an online menu, you need to keep it updated! So we settled for something else on the menu. The flavorless pancakes were served with margarine spread, not butter and the syrup was room temp, thin and flavorless, but as the syrup got lower in the pitcher it started to get thicker. So it had either separated or had been watered down. It appears that they use the cheapest ingredients they can source. We'll mark that one off the list. read more

Despite the renovations , the food is just average. Servers were friendly and prompt but food to the table took forever. Slow kitchen maybe? Also, the wine pour was grossly uneven for white versus red with white getting 3x as much in a bigger glass. Did complain about that and the waitress said it depended on the glass- duh! No silverware...they literally gave us plastic wear and saucers as plates with our appetizer....after we told them we didn't have any plates or silverware! We were hesitant to try due to reviews, but we had a good experience for breakfast. Now if you're looking for fine dining, it's not the place, but for a decent meal I can't complain. We had bacon, egg and cheese English muffins and hash browns, our server was very very nice. Can't complain. read more

Great service! Called down to restaurant to order and let us know when it was ready. Fresh and hot! We had the fried shrimp and shrimp and grits. Cheese curds were great too! They remembered utensils and all the sauces and dips. We were happy not to have to leave the hotel for great food and service. read more

Had French toast with bacon, with two scrambled eggs. I saw nothing that looked like egg on the toast. It appears they just buttered it and let it brown a bit. And for the so called "scrambled" eggs? Have you ever scrambled eggs, poured them in the pan, and left them too long? Yes, that is an omelet. This is what I was served. The cook chopped up the over cooked, flat egg to make it look scrambled. It looked more like egg slaw, if there is such a thing. And get this -  the eggs were $4 extra. Yep, raw eggs cost about 25 cents each. Nice profit for something no one wants to eat. read more

Covid aside, if you can't do better than this then you should close. Peel and eat shrimp freezer burnt and overcooked. Beef nachos cold and soggy when arrived. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive, appetizers only. Beers weren't cold. Utensils were dirty and we had a karaoke waitress. Our bill was wrong and we got fussed at for not having N95 masks. The Clamdigger restaurant is located inside of The Inn at Pine Knoll Shores (formally called The Clamdigger). We initially tried to get takeout and take it back to our room but every time we would call, they would leave us on hold and not come back to the line. This particularly night, we went elsewhere. Now last night we really didn't want to travel back into town so we decided to eat in the restaurant. I will give the restaurant credit because they had all the tables spread apart and the servers were all masked and gloved. After waiting SEVERAL minutes our server greeted us. Not sure what took so long because they were NOT busy. She was very friendly though. We placed our order for the crab dip appetizer and I got the shrimp plate with mac and cheese and my husband ordered the 10oz ribeye meal. The food arrived pretty quickly. This is where things went downhill with no recovery. The crab dip was SO incredibly bland. Prob the worst I've ever had. My husband who is not picky at all didn't even care for it. The shrimp were below average. Heavily breaded. The Mac and cheese was just gross. Very bland and had ritz crackers sprinkled on top. It tasted like the Mac and cheese was microwaved and then topped with crackers. My husbands steak was extremely fatty and we question the portion size of the supposed 10oz steak. He also got collards but again said they weren't very good. This was such a disappointing experience on our last night in town read more

Save yourselves.....DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Our family of 4 decided to go to dinner here while we were vacationing in the area (August 2021). To say it was disappointing is a major understatement! After being seated we had to wait a VERY long time before the waitress came over to take our order. During the long wait period we were seriously considering leaving (we had not ordered anything yet). The dining room that we were in smelled musty and the place was just felt dirty overall! We were just minutes away from walking out when the waitress came to take our order, so reluctantly we decided to order our dinners. Three of us ordered the stuffed flounder and the other ordered the pasta alfredo. An even LONGER wait before our food arrived (no bread for the table!!!). Once our dinners were finally brought to the table, we all looked it our food and were completely underwhelmed. One bite for each of us and we were done with our dinners! The stuffed flounder tasted like the bottom of the ocean. The pasta alfredo was severely over cooked and mushy. We were ALL disgusted - there was no way we were going to eat more than one bite! I immediately asked a waitress (not our original waitress - she seemed to be missing all of a sudden) for our check she said "of course, I get it for you right away". When she came back and saw that we barely touched our food, she kindly asked if the food was okay. My response to her was, "no not at all". Sadly, she did not seem shocked by my answer and she apologized. We paid the bill for our uneaten food and got out of there as quick as we possibly could! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant at all! Unfriendly. They don't want your business. They wouldnot let us in because we had 7 and 8 year old GIRLS in swimsuits. Really!?? They are by the beach. The manager said my swim suit was fine. I'm quite upset. Nothing is posted. Everyone was covered. So weird. read more
