While at the beach with friends for a few days this summer, we went out for a nice dinner with everyone to this spot. It came highly suggested by the host of the beach house, as well as all the great reviews we saw online. This not a quick sit, eat, and be on your way type of restaurant, it's a long standing, very popular spot, and even getting their early, we still had a about a 45 minute wait. But we were able to get drinks, and take them out to enjoy by the water while we waited for our table. Because of the heat, they even had a cooler by the front door with free bottled water for guests to enjoy while waiting. Once seated, the waitress was very attentive, checking on us regularly, keeping the drinks coming and getting out order entered, and out to us pretty quickly. Not being a big seafood eater, I decided to give their meatloaf a try. It was fantastic, as were the mash potatoes and green beans it was served with. For desert, we got smores, which they brought out a flames, along with graham crackers, Hershey bars, and marshmallows to make them at your table. Overall, a fun experience, tasty food, and great atmosphere. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I'd say that's expected for a quality restaurant in a beach town. It's not tourist trap pricey, but you get what you pay for, which in this case is good quality food, decent portions! I'd go back on another visit, and would recommend to others. read more

If you're vacationing and hungry, don't expect to get in quickly unless you hit a sweet spot in the evening. Place opened at 4:45 and we were there at 4:35 with a full parking lot and a line out the door. Luckily, we had a small party of two and a toddler and our wait was only 20 minutes. The night before we tried to get in, the wait was an hour and a half. Overall the place was great! Place was really Clean, smelled good, and was nice and cool. The outdoor waiting area was nice with a little dock in the water, covered/shaded seating, rocking chairs and even a bag set. Food was mostly on point too! Fried green maters could have been cooked a little longer (still a bit crunchy for my liking), breading on the pork chops didn't stick as well to the meat as it could, mashed potato's were FIRE, and the seafood trio with rice and beans was nice. Beer was super cold, staff were nice, and bathrooms were clean. If I were in the area again I would go again. read more

This was a great place -first night in Atlantic Beach and this was a first rate choice! We were not ready for a full meal so settled on the pork dumplings (excellent!) and salads with added protein. This was absolutely a mistake to go. It's a 100% tourist trap. Ordered the seared tuna as rare and it was certainly not local and was tasteless. Bottom of the barrel Sysco food delivery from somewhere in the world. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits that was absolutely terrible. The shrimp also not from the area and most likely poor Sysco food quality and looked boiled as it was rubbery and also tasteless. Neither one of us finished 1/4 of our meal. If you want French seafood or seafood better that the frozen section of food lion go someplace else. So glad we did not order an app that would have further wasted our money and time. The broccoli that came with the tuna was cold. I am shook that this place has the rating it does and long line of victims outside. In my many trips to the AB area, I've driven by the old Mosquito often but it's always, always, always packed no matter the time of year. New plan for this trip. Step one should be the same for everyone. Get there when they open at 4:45 because damn does this place get busy quick even on weekdays. When I rolled into the parking lot at 4:40, I had probably 15-20 already at the door. Step two, if you get there at open, consider bar seating. Clam Chowder - Scalloped Scallops - Key Lime Pie I'll just keep it at this. Is anything I ordered going to reinvent the culinary wheel? No, and one could argue that the only negative here is that most everything is on the pricey side. But with that said, everything was extremely consistent, everything was brought out perfectly timed, my cup never runnethed (sure, it's a word) empty and the bar staff are all excellent conversationalists. Also one big upside, the ambiance. The bar area is kept dark as it should be in any bar type situation and the music selection was mostly a fantastic mix of classic R&B and Blues. Can't tell you the last time I enjoyed seafood while listening to John Lee Hooker (well, I can and it would be never which is why my mind was sort of blown). Groaney, groan, groan on some of the pricing but the overall situation here is worth the five stars. I get the hype and I get why it's always busy. "Jethro" was our server on a rainy and dark Friday at the beach in February. It was our first time here and they sat us at the window overlooking the sound side of the restaurant. We enjoyed a lobster and crab dip and a cocktail. With dinner, we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine with our meal. Everything was delicious, came out timely from the kitchen, and plenty of a portion to take home for leftovers. What really impressed us was the customer service exerted from the moment we walked in, to walking through the restaurant, and thanking us for visiting as we left. I can imagine during beach months, this place would be packed and bustling. Well, given the rain on a Friday in February, they were almost packed at 6:00 pm. I really wanted to love this restaurant, but adding nonsense fees ruined the experience. I reviewed the menu before our visit and the fee for sharing a meal was not disclosed. My boyfriend and I always order a bottle of wine, at least two appetizers and share a meal. We do this so that can try several items on the menu during one visit. I am almost 60 years old and my boyfriend's almost 70, so eating appetizers and then a full meal each isn't possible. We had already ordered a bottle of wine and two appetizers before we found out that they add on a $4.00 fee if you want to share a meal. I understand it's a small fee, but I refuse to pay fee's. It's just the principal. We ended up ordering another appetizer instead that turned out to be very disappointing. It turns out we both lose. My husband and I ate at Amos Mosquito's Twix Ce while we were on vacation at Atlantic Beach, this was just this past week. Dave was at the front desk, he is one of the owners, and he was very courteous with giving us the wait times and offers to go to the bar. He remembered us the second time also Our server for our first meal was, "Nugget" , that is not a name that you can forget (but I did). She was very personable and accommodating with our time, order, and cheerfulness. Our second time we had Dixie, for our server, she was also very cheerful, good service, and did not rush us. Amos Mosquito's Restaurant & Bar is one of our absolute favorite places to eat. It's incredibly convenient to our home, but honestly, we'd go even if it wasn't. Their pork chop is absolutely to die for, and the fried flounder is consistently incredible. The only thing I still mourn a little is the jerk chicken they used to have on the menu -- it was so unbelievably good that when I realized they had taken it off, I think I was genuinely heartbroken. But the shrimp and grits make up for it a little. And if you're lucky enough to catch one of their sushi nights, don't miss it. It's phenomenal. We were EXTREMELY impressed with Amos Mosquito's. Our Uber driver recommended it and it was even better than we thought! The place was packed. Full parking lot and people waiting over an hour for a table. But the service was super welcoming, kind, and quick anyway. The restaurant had a cute charm about it, and the views of the water and marsh are amazing. What makes it truly stand out is they make EVERYTHING from scratch. Sides, sauces, desserts, all of it. It just tastes so authentic and full of love. We went with four people and shared bites. Every. Single. Thing! Was awesome. No misses at all. Those pork chops were the best I've had. So juicy and flavorful, super moist and tender with nice crispy breading. The grits were cheesy, creamy and full of flavor. And the cornbread light sweet, buttery and perfect. The food doesn't look all fancy or Instagram ready like those expensive places with weird ingredients. But man, the taste wins every time. It just feels comforting in a way high end spots don't. I don't get the "meh" reviews out there. This place is seriously one of the top five restaurants I've ever been to. If you're close by, you have to go. Amos Mosquito's doesn't just fill you up. We decided to visit on the recommendation of the hosts of the condo we were renting. Very glad we went. They are only open for dinner and we arrived a few minutes early and there was a line waiting to get in. Most definitely recommend getting here early. We were promptly seated and our server, Magnolia, was very helpful on entree and drink selections. I opted for the crab cakes, although the meatloaf was also on my radar. It was really delicious. My wife had the shrimp and grits, which we found out was the chef's specialty. My wife assure me they were yummy.The decor reflects the restaurant's name and it's situated on the sound side so there is an opportunity for some ambience I'm sure when it's nice ( it was rainy when we visited) We finished with a ice cream sandwich, which we split and it was yummy. Very good option for a higher end meal in Atlantic Beach. Service was excellent, portions were very substantial. Kind of odd combination of flavors on some of the dishes (pasta salad under crab cakes with a southwestern mayonnaise-y sauce? different, not 100% in a great way; curry "sauce" was more curry powder than a real curry on the tuna dish) but overall some excellent options here. Our appetizers fared better: excellent shrimp in a butter/wine sauce (but really, really needed more bread on the side) and a great lobster crab dip. When my husband, mother, and I went to North Carolina to visit family, they told us they wanted to take us to this restaurant. Between its unique decor and atmosphere, and its menu, it is definitely a restaurant you want to make sure to visit when you were in town! We had a party of five and had about one hour wait before getting seated. Wow that was a little longer than I expected since it is not beach season yet, it was not unreasonable. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable, and very attentive. Her name tag said Pumpkin, but I'm not sure if that's your real name. Started with the fried pickles and they were delicious! The batter was perfectly seasoned and very good, but not too much. The pickle slices were thicker than what you would get in your standard supermarket dill pickle slice. So, each one was a very substantial bite! My mother ordered the scallops and said they were very good. She opted for having them profiled. My husband had the two pork chop plate and he said it was delicious! He could not stop talking about it. I went with the flounder. It was nicely boiled and had just the slightest seasoning on it. If you like seafood, you definitely want to check out this unique restaurant when you're in town. read more

We arrived an hour early after hearing first come first serve basis and boy were we right. There were already cars pulling up at 4pm and a line forming as it got closer to 4:45pm. Once opened the staff were quick in getting us seated and with a wonderful view of the water from our window. I loved the ambiance of the place. Our server Cameron offered the best dining service and recommendations on what was the best and popular dishes to order. For apps, we ordered the Buzz-Buzz Shrimp and Lump Crab Cakes w/ Roasted Corn and two bowls of their Creamy Clam Chowder which were absolutely delicious every bite had clams. It lived up to the review that others mentioned about it. Overall we were highly satisfied by the appetizers. As for entrees, we ordered the Sesame Seared Tuna and the Big Bad Skeeter which was so satisfying our bellies left so full we didn't make it to trying out their desserts. We'll definitely have to be back for that. I highly recommend trying out this hidden gem in the Atlantic beach area. It was a very welcoming and wonderful dining experience! This is legitimately the best food I have ever had! My dish was $34 and I would have paid $60 for it! We showed up at 4:15 and we were maybe 10th in line? Once the restaurant opened, we were seated quickly. Inside is gorgeous with classy swamp decor hanging from the ceiling and little mosquito details all around. Our appetizer of fried pickles (amazing) came out almost immediately. After that, it didn't take long for the entrees to come out. Everyone's food was wonderful with a unique, yet not intimidating, flare on classic seafood. Mine was absolutely perfect with a great cook and fun flavors. The wait staff and managers were wonderful as well! My family is considering waiting in line and eating there again tomorrow night! I cannot recommend highly enough!! read more
