Using the toothpick, to show how thick my sandwich was!

I'm not sure, if they have new manager/owner, but this is the first time in 49 years that we've lived in this area, that we decided we're going to eat more in places like Bar & Grill. We came in a little after 11:00am, and we were seated right away, and had a server gave us water & menu, and took a little more time to order, they have so many to choose from. She gave us some suggestions, no rush. The food took about 20 mins. The portions were huge! My order A Taste of Kentucky. Triple decker grilled chicken breast, lean bacon, cheese, tomato, & lettuce served on sourdough bread. It was so thick, I took my chicken out so I could put the sandwich in my mouth, and ate the seasoned well chicken one at a time. The fries were yummy, with Ranch Dressing! Hubby ordered the Made in Oregon. French dip, served with Swiss cheese, and optional sauteed onions on French Roll. He picked the coleslaw, which was runny, but the sauce had pineapple, which is a bonus! We shared everything, so I got some coleslaw, and he helped with my fries. I love the au jus! We will for sure come back, and try out others in the menu!

Grateful food at a decent price. I got a breakfast and hubby a steak sandwich. Will definitely be going back.

    Delicious!

Best meatloaf special I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Friendly staff, great environment. Thank you for the experience.

Worst service ever. The waitress wouldn't take our order because we ordered a beer from the bartender. So then we were forced to order from the bartender for the rest of the night. Our food sat in the window for over 15 minutes and the food was cold by the time we got it. The beer was good but the service was trash.

    Chef was so good!

It came out well done, (along with the elote "corn ribs", which were pretty dank, admittedly.) I mentioned it to the bartender, and she promptly offered to have it re-made. Cool. Let's do it. 15 minutes later I said to my wife - there's no way it's medium rare if it's taking this long. Lo and behold, another WELL DONE waste of steak, and waste of time. Got it wrapped up to go and decided to call it a night. Got home and realized they gave us blue cheese dressing. Can't catch a win to save my life tonight. These days we seldom go out to eat, and it's a bummer when we can't even get a decently prepared steak on the off chance we do. It was the second time I tried to get steak here, both times it was almost entirely GREY, in spite of clearly requesting medium rare. For the money, it should be done correctly.

Service was just as good. Our waiter was attentive, easygoing, and made everything feel relaxed and fun. We ordered the cauliflower, shrimp skewers, fondue, and a basket of fries--every single thing was delicious. But the fries? Next level. Kind of like jojos, but WAY better--crispy, flavorful, and honestly unforgettable. And the Old Fashioned completely stole the show. Easily one of the best I've had. For quite a while I thought it was boarded up and closed. Nope just the neighborhood. I first ventured in to KB because I was looking to drink without the prying ears of my coworkers. I am glad I did. First night I met World Class Bartender Eileen. She makes this place work. I return because of her. What makes this place special is that everyone just does their own thing. The video poker folks just spend their money and are chill. The bigger groups just drink and eat and are chill. The tweakers are managed and treated fairly. We all have a place at KB's. People police themselves. I appreciated the fact that Eileen made sure to have the beer I liked on ice, that they brought in some new choices and that every time I showed up - the bartenders were in a good mood. There was no bitching or whining, the Bartenders were doing their job, serving their customers. I like that. Their steak bites are bomb and if the right cook is there their nachos are layered and so worth it. This place is old Portland ... before Covid before the entitled before too tight tees before man buns KB is the place to go when you just want to hang out, without it having to be a scene. Secondly, my wife has started working a few shifts here and there, so I've been spending a bit more time here, and my opinion of Tony's has improved significantly as a result. It's still a cash-only bar, but the place has started to take on a Cheers-esque vibe, where everybody knows your name...and each other's, as well. There's a regular crowd of quirky characters from all walks of life who, like stray cats returning to the house that feeds them, can be found here at almost any given hour of the day, and usually hanging out with one another, in some configuration. Drinks remain cheap, and strong, and the bar is much better stocked: even some uncommon cocktails that you can't get at other bars can be mixed up here, such as my favorite, the Rusty Nail (using Drambuie, which few bars seem to stock), so even old curmudgeons like myself can be accommodated. In short, Tony's is a neighborhood bar that has finally started feeling like one, and that's a welcome change. I'm told there are plans for renovations and new features coming in the foreseeable future, which will hopefully will be well-received, and bring in new faces, to join the ragtag band of scoundrels (myself included) that have begun to call this place home.

But this review is for Tony's the Tavern, not Tony's the Garden Center (it is easy to get them confused, like I did). First, the pros: 1. They have very cheap drinks. High balls, low balls, medium balls, beer, they've got it, and they'll get you drunk without breaking the bank. 2. They have Ms. Pacman and the joy stick is in good condition. I think it was just a quarter to play. 3. The pool table is small but in good shape. I ran the table off the break there on February 15, 2020 and immediately retired from pool. So this is a good bar to "Go out on top." 4. The jukebox is cheap and has a great collection from the 50s to 70s. However, if anyone from the staff is listening, can you PLEASE add back "Little Spanish Flea" by Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass? Now, the cons: 1. It is unlikely you will run into anyone that has a full set of teeth. 2. They do not have any of the ingredients to make a Schlitz Cocktail. I asked for one and the bartender had no idea what I was talking about.
