It's been a few years since I stopped here. I have not been back because the food was not that great. Thought I'd give it another try. I started with a gizzards, which was a mistake. They were rock hard and overcooked. Out of about 12 gizzards only two were decent. I also ordered a cheeseburger with substitute of onion rings. The burger was OK nothing special but I liked it. The onion rings were delicious. I ordered those again in a heartbeat. I really love the atmosphere of this place. It's very comfortable. The server was super sweet and welcoming. If only the food were a bit better, I would stop more than every couple of years. Everything else about this place was good. read more

Curiosity satisfied as I've driven by for decades, but never stopped. The marquee star is the fish and chips. There's three varieties - cod, halibut, and mahi mahi (I think.) I'd opt for the cod as it's significantly less expensive and the taste variation isn't great enough to justify the extra cost. The fries aren't the kind I enjoy as they're topped with some sort of spice. Good vibe and decorated with detail. Tons of taps on the walls, not sure if all are available. Service was very friendly and relatively fast. Lunch crowd was mainly local old timers. Parking was easy. There's history here and worth a visit. read more

My son just moved next door to the Wooden Chicken so we have visited every week for a month and absolutely love everything about the restaurant. The atmosphere has a sports bar feel and is very clean. Our server most the time is Kevin who is super friendly. We have tried the Fish Sandwich ((my favorite) Chicken Quesadilla, and club sandwich. Best Mozzarella stiicks I ever had. Our delightful server Mitzi said they make them in house, (not frozen) like most other places do. She said most other things are made in house as well. Boyfriend had the Hawaiian burger and upgraded to jojos. Yum. It is a sports bar and has lottery machines. We hadn't been there for a couple years and it had new owners since. Went to try the fish and chips again. Chips I asked for no salt. Came out tasting like double salt. She had them remade. Totally appreciate that. Fish was so greasy and the pieces seem to keep getting smaller every time. The Friday special is fish and chips go $16.95 I think. They are no longer halibut, but cod. Not my favorite but we tried them anyway. Really didn't want to spend the extra 8.00 bucks for halibut. I think they still would have been greasy. Not sure we will go back. They do have lottery back. I've been going to The Wooden Chicken for a long time, and it's disappointing to see how much it's gone downhill. I ordered the same clubhouse sandwich I always get, but this time asked for tots instead of fries. Not only was I charged an extra $2.50 for the substitution, I was given literally about 10 tater tots. When I questioned it, I was told that's all they're allowed to give unless they 'open another batch,' which would cost an additional $6. On top of that, my $4 soda was flat and stale. The prices have become unrealistic for the portions and quality you receive. This used to be a place I genuinely enjoyed, but now it just doesn't feel worth it anymore." read more

This place is so good. I've eaten here twice first time was chicken this time is fish. The fries are crispy so was the fish, I do wish it was cooked a couple minutes longer. But it was still really good. And the guy at the bar was really nice. I do know this place can close a little early sometimes, which kinda sucks if you wanna come in later for a drink, but over all I love this bar. 9/10 total read more

It's a shame that this place doesn't get more credit for what it *should* be known for. We drove from Vancouver to visit this little bar near the airport on Sandy because we were too darn tired to double back on a Friday (I work at PDX). It's a perfect casual hangout in there. Generic ATM by the door, locals watching sports and drinking at the bar, dim lighting and screens everywhere. The ladies working that Saturday were super nice and quick with orders and drinks. Everyone will get ID'ed because of the new strictness that took effect in May so bring it even if you don't plan on drinking. Halibut and chips! This is what you came for so order some! Prices are super reasonable considering it's halibut. About $14 to start for two pieces and you can order up to 4. My bf got onion rings to sub for the chips, but he tried my fries and he was hooked. (P.S. he's not into fries but he helped me finish them!) I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't sub next time. I got the fried clam strips because I was curious if they did something non-standard but these were the battered clams you can get in the frozen section of any grocery store. This is to review the Ladies Restroom: There's no hook to hang your purse. The latch sticks, and won't open. I started banging the door, but maybe, if I stay there longer, someone WILL come in to use the restroom and go tell some staff to help me get out. Instead, I have my phone with me, TEXT my hubby, who was already back in the car waiting for me, to come & rescue me, and sent him a photo of the latch. I've driven past this place on Sandy several times since moving into the neighborhood, and always thought of it as some sort of Popeye's knock-off, judging from the sign. Honestly, it never held much interest to me, until a friend recommended coming down on a Friday night for their special. Chicken, I assumed. Wrong. Fish and chips. Wait, what? "Not just any fish and chips", he said. "The best in Portland!" There's no way that could be right. I had to prove him wrong. Thank goodness I'm not a betting man, or I'd have lost my shirt! OK, so ostensibly, the Wooden Chicken IS a pub. I almost said "just a pub", but that would be snobbish and dismissive. On the inside, it is pretty dive-y, and has all the usual offenders, from poker machines to pool tables, a gallery of taps above the bar, dim interior lighting, neon signs. You get the picture. What I wasn't expecting was it to be packed to capacity at 7pm, and that we'd be forced to sit outside, where the one awesome (but incredibly overwhelmed) server still managed to keep things together and serve us our drinks and entrees in a reasonable amount of time! My wife and I split the special, a three piece halibut basket, subbing out the fries for jojos, as suggested by our friend. My Old Fashioned was the same sort of muddled, cloudy version encountered at just about any pub or tavern (as opposed to the clear, golden, orange peel adorned version you get at "fancier" places), so it was rather unexciting, but that's about the only thing I can hold against this place. So, how's the Halibut fish and chips at the Wooden CHICKEN, you ask?! Phenomenal! No joke, the best I've had in Portland, which means the best I've had outside of the United Kingdom. I started to wonder how strong my drink was, as I was seriously doubting the truthfulness of my own taste buds. My wife, however, concurred, and later, reading other reviews of this place, it turns out we're not the only ones to think so. Be warned, though: the three piece special ($15 on Fridays; slightly more any other day of the week) is meal enough for two people, so gauge your hunger level accordingly! Or just take the extra home and enjoy it for later! After this weekend, I won't be driving by the Wooden Chicken with a dismissive attitude again. I'll be too busy wiping the drool of my chin, or calling up the wife and asking if she's up for fish and chips tonight! I may have to find another route to drive, or I'm going to be making an excessive number of stops here in the future! read more

I have lived in Parkrose for 30 years and this was my first visit to the Woodenchicken. We walked in and we were able To find a seat easily. We sat down and we were promptly greeted by a male Server. He took our drink order and promptly returned with our drinks. He knew the right time to return and take our food order. I had the Ruben and my husband had the mushroom Swiss burger both with French fries. We really enjoyed ourselves. The bar was clean and had lots of things to look at. They had the screens with professional sports playing on each one. I would recommend this place 10/10 read more

Went for lunch today and we ordered the Friday special, fish and chips. The special is served with 3 pieces cod, great fries and coleslaw. The new owners have really improved on their fries. My wife ordered the 3 piece Halibut and Chips and the portions were good size. As always the service was frantic/casual and the place is very similar to the ol'Wooden Chicken. The Menu has been downsized (which was needed) but the best items were kept. Go and enjoy this neighborhood hot spot, watch a game or 3 and enjoy an adult beverage. Over 21 only. read more

The quality of the food has dropped dramatically... the chicken is way, way overcooked and dry, the gizzards are still good but, 8 bucks for 8 gizzards is a crazy price... the chicken used to be 4 pieces and Jo-Jo's for 15 bucks a couple months ago, now it's 3 pieces and fries( which are smaller and only a few) for 19 bucks, won't be back... it's sad as I've been eating there for years... read more

I'm a blue collar kinda guy at heart, and I was told one time that I have working class hands - whatever that means. I had some damn good fish and chips. It was a dollar off for three pieces today. For $9.75 the chicken strip basket wasn't bad. Though I thought there would be more fries with it. Maybe it was because I got it Togo. I ordered that and had a soda WATER while I waited. My order came so I pulled out $15 thinking it'd cover it plus be a pretty generous tip for a take out order. Come to find out I got charged for the soda water and a side of bbq sauce an extra 4.25 lol I still left another $2 on top of the $15 I had pulled out. Penny pinching on soda water is absurd to me. Fries were undercooked and soft. Chicken was perfect but I know from experience it's hard to screw up premade frozen chicken strips so oh well. Don't order soda water if you think it'll be free. It's not. Nor does it say on the menu they charge for it so maybe that's something they should add to the 100+ items already on there lol Beside that experience, I'd probably give this place another go. read more

We came to meet up with some of my partner's coworkers. It's just a basic dive bar, but we enjoyed it. Staff were all really friendly and so were many of the patrons. I'm not used to going places and feeling like everyone around is hanging out together, so it was really nice. I got to chat with lots of people for a change. It seems like a good place to go if you want to get out but don't have anyone handy to take with you. They have a rather large menu, but we just stuck with deep fried pub food. The deals were good for happy hour so we figured why not? Mostly just drank a couple beers, but the bartender seemed more than ready to mix cocktails which made him seem much more of a mixologist than you'd expect at a place like this. I did try one and it was really tasty, not too strong on liquor, sweet, or sour - well balanced. I'm sure we'll be back since his coworkers love this spot. Video lottery, games on the TV, and pool tables around - lots to choose from, plus a lot of seating. Nice little spot. read more
