This village is a very charming back east feeling. It has plenty of cute small village stores with unique finds. One of my favorites is Jasmine. The 2 bakeries are outstanding but my favorite is Some Crust Bakery. Although Creme bakery is very charming to experience also. I set aside the day to walk the streets to enjoy the old homes along the perimeter of this village. Take note that many movies have used this very location for filming. This is such a cute area ! About 30 minutes away from Eastvale, it is a quaint little area to browse and walk through the several shops - from little restaurants to yogurt spots and cafes, there is a wide selection of places to choose from and it's a nice area to spend your afternoon at. I would say that it is a bit expensive compared to a lot of the other restaurants I have been to but the aura and feel of the places accommodates that thought. Most of the customer service has been really good across the board. Overall, I recommend !! read more

I was at the Claremont Village looking for Poke Dot. The village is basically downtown. It spans out to a few blocks of great shops, eateries, and other businesses. From the outside on the main street of Indian Hill Blvd or its cross street Bonita Ave, you can't tell how big this village is until you actually walk into it. Do yourself a favor and take your time when you're here visiting. I would say 3 hours would be sufficient especially if you're dining in. By the way, there is a movie theater, too. Maybe 5 hours may be more like it LOL. Allocate your time accordingly. They do have limited parking lots and street parking. Please read the street signs for parking restrictions. I was lucky to find one parking space available in one of the small parking lots. I think it only had about 12 parking spots. I will have to come back here to explore a bit more since my visit was only to buy a couple poke bowls from Poke Dot. See you here next time!!! read more

The Claremont Village is one of my favorite downtown areas of Southern California towns. It's cute and quaint, has many restaurants and shops, is walkable and dog-friendly, and has free parking! When friends and family have visited for the first time, many have remarked about the small-town feel that is reminiscent of east coast university towns. I love simply walking down beautiful the tree-lined streets, grabbing a delicious cup of coffee, or dining out with friends. This downtown area is located right outside the Claremont Colleges, so it is busiest in late summer when parents are dropping off their kids at the beginning of the school year, during parent/family weekends, and in spring during graduations. read more

Claremont used to be a wonderful college town. With a handful of small colleges, boutique businesses and charming. Not so much anymore. The restaurants serve mediocre food at high prices. Not all. A few are very good and still affordable. Like, DaddyJ's Indian food, wonderful flavors great service. Menkoi Ya Ramen is very good despite their 4.3. Their spicy miso is exceptional. Creme Bakery 4.8 is about a good as it gets. Their croissant sandwiches are usually gone by noon. Not too much else. Claremont has many resturants that are mediocre with high prices. Probably because of cost of rent. Whispers in the Packing house use to be really good, but not so much any more. The couple of Mexican places are also over priced with food not matching the price elsewhere. The newer eateries make their money on alcohol drinks and some of them will shortchange you on what you'd expect as a good mixed drink. read more

Beautiful and charming little village in Claremont. It seems to be roughly 3 streets to walk up and down on located right in downtown. The main streets are Harvard and Yale. They have an outdoor plaza and so many restaurants to choose from, as well as antique shops and miscellaneous shops. I highly recommend visiting this area on a nice afternoon. Most of the stores seem to open around 11am or so. So don't arrive too early. Also some of the stores are closed on Monday, so check out Yelp for hours of operation if you are going to a specific store. I enjoyed just walking around and stopped at a couple of the party shops. One was great, called Creme Bakery. Make sure to check out Union on Yale, and the Cheese Cave. Too many to list, so wander and enjoy! read more

The Claremont Village is a wonderful way to spend your day. It's a unique and charming area filled with many quaint shops and restaurants. It's very pedestrian and dog friendly with many shaded patios and outdoor dining options, which is loveable. Parking can be difficult to find on the weekends and certain high demand times during the week. I've had luck with a small parking lot located off of Yale and 4th St. (across from Norema Cafe). Another go-to is a large parking structure near the Claremont Packing House. Loved our time at the Claremont Village. Strolling the streets, popping in for some snacks or drinks, doing a little shopping, sightseeing, or relaxing, it's a gem of a place with an old world feeling. Here, you can slow down and enjoy life a bit more. read more

The things that make you laugh today will eventually be the same ones that make you cry tomorrow. No, I'm not talking about the quarantine life again, even as I write this during quarantine. I'm talking about my relationship with the Village. When I first came upon the Village, it was just the smaller, older portion (the stores and restaurants on the west side were not yet built nor was the revitalized packing house area a thing). I had many good times roaming Rhino records, eating falafel sandwiches at Saca's, getting ice cream at Bert & Rockys, or the occasional upscale dinner at Walter's. All of those places still exist, but some others have come and gone. And of course, the newer part of the Village has been there now for over a decade. So many good times, so many laughs, smiles, and memories. Now that I look back on the nostalgia it makes me cry. This area has grown up and so have I. read more

It's a quaint, cute place to walk around and explore for an afternoon. Came here on a late October afternoon and the hot day dissolving into a slightly chilly evening with the setting sun and fall leaves was truly a vibe. Lots have changed since I last came here pre-COVID. 2 of my fav ice cream shops in the area have closed down sadly... There's a bunch of free parking spots and parking structure, so that's not an issue. Lots of alleyways, plazas, small shops, cafes, and eateries. Very COVID compliant, so that's good. I've watched the Fate Stay Night Hevean's Feel movie here before and I've looked at ticket prices for the Ghibli Fest/other anime movies and it's much cheaper than an AMC, so I recommend the theater here for sure. If you really don't have anything to do, it's a good way to kill off some time. read more

Had an amazing time at Eureka and very happy with our room at Casa 425. The waiter at Eureka was friendly and engaging so we decided to stay the whole the night instead of bar hopping. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathtub and robe was definitely a plus. Definitely coming back. read more

I love college towns that are close enough to LA that I can schedule a day trip and visit them. It could be a fun escape to dive into another world, not that far away. I read an article in LA Magazine and Claremont fit the bill for my b-day trip. I took the Metrolink (cute train stop) that lets you out in the middle of downtown and you can explore the area on foot. The downtown is cute, but didn't have that "wow" factor, a few cute stores, record store and cute streets. I was very disappointed with the food scene here. There are some coffee-shops (I did my research and pop in some), but none fit the bill- great pastries, great coffee and nice seating area to enjoy a fun breakfast out! Also, the restaurant scene is pretty poor, there are just a few good restaurants and everyone crowds them (Viva Madrid had a huge line before opening). Back Alley is a nice option, but it's casual, if you're looking for something more upscale, for a celebratory dinner our, well... I couldn't find anything to fit the bill. There are a few small museums, nice to visit, although the Claremont Museum of Art is tiny, hence the $5 admission is high and Petterson Museum was hard to find and closed for the day. Pomona College campus is a highlight, nice to explore with a few nice free museums on the campus (the Art one is nice) and Orozco's mural at Frary Hall a must thing to see (go earlier, they do close the hall in late afternoon). A nice park, houses, sculptures, cute stores, some vintage focused ones, some nice home decor shops. I was a tad disappointed with Claremont Village, it lacks a certain energy and a solid culinary scene! read more

This is a super quaint small town feel to this college town village! We decided to come here since we were pretty much done with visiting OC metrolink stations. This was a pleasant surprise as the village sits immediately across the street from the metrolink station. A ton of cute locally owned businesses are in this cute downtown area. We ate delicious burritos and tacos at Petiscios, enjoyed so much playtime fun at Boon Toy Store, and indulged in a creamy ice cream treat at Bert and Rocky's. My only complaint is the nasty public restrooms. We ended buying something at Starbucks so we could use a clean restroom. We felt completely safe while hanging out here for a few hours before heading home. Definitely repeat visit! read more

We celebrated a birthday here and always love the food every time we come. On this occasion, we were waited on by Violet and we had wonderful service. She was on top of everything and was speedy. This is a surprisingly quaint little village to visit. The village is reminiscent of Uptown Whittier and San Luis Obispo, minus the bar scene. There are many little shops to visit. They range from art shops to record shops. There are also plenty of outdoor seating restaurants to enjoy. There is plenty of parking on the local streets. Each shop I went into was welcoming, clean and following by COVID guidelines. I look forward to returning. Minus one star due to lack of bars. read more

This is a very nice village/shopping experience. It reminded me of San Luis Obispo downtown but I don't have to drive 3 hours to get there. We went to the toy store which my son (10) loved. We walked around several streets including going to the library. Everything was clean, no homeless that we saw (which is a problem sometimes) and we ate lunch at a pizza place. I absolutely adore college towns, and more so the point, I love the shopping, restaurants, and all of the fun places to explore in around the general area. Claremont village is no exception. It is a beautiful little community, and the Village it's self is absolutely adorable. There's something there for everyone. The boutique stores not only our unique, fun, but a definite must shop at whether you are from far away, a local, or one of the many students that attend the local colleges. So much goodness! Restaurants, coffee bars, and dessert shops are there in full force. I love the fact that these are not all chain places, but there's a nice mixture of mom and pop own businesses. I'm a big proponent for supporting local business, and I was happy to do so during my recent visit. Parking is easily found, and in most cases absolutely free. Major score! All of the locals are super friendly, and so willing to help, answer questions, and as I said just super friendly and nice. Plan on arriving early enough in the day, to enjoy one of the many restaurants, and have plenty of time to browse/shop in the stores. It is absolutely worth the effort. read more

Claremont Village. Such charm. There really is something special about this place that is so tucked away in the eastern tip of LA County. For reference, this city used to be full of orange groves. How acidic! Now, it's been replaced by rather expensive housing and little mom and pop shops, intersparsed with dots of corporate organizations like Starbucks and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Like San Diego, Claremont has a Mediterranean climate. This means you can find lovely temperatures of 45 F (7 C) yet on August 28, 2017, it got to 102 F (39 C). But like I said, there is such charm to Claremont Village. You have food places unique to the village like Kazama Sushi, Toccata Wine tasting, Bardot for outdoor casual drinks, a photographer, post office, and of course the Claremont colleges. There's something here for everyone. And the best part is, it doesn't feel like Los Angeles here with its dirty air, high-rise skyscrapers, or overpriced, insufficient, always-full parking lots. Here you find relatively flat architecture, cleaner air, and abundant parking spaces which is really rare especially in a college town. For those of you coming to visit LA, I encourage you to take a pit stop in Claremont and swing by the Claremont Village. See for yourself and experience what there is to offer here. I fall in love here a lot. I don't mean to. It's just that I fall easily, and how could you not, when confronted by the wonder in these streets? If you pay close attention, you can feel my anxious palms, my pouting lips, my tender eagerness from past kisses. I've left it all under the arcs of the train station, in the bright glow of a full moon. It's there in the window of Aruffo's, at the table that gets an icy December breeze every time the door opens. There, on the steps of the Post Office, while talking about the decline of letters and respectable penmanship. And of course, my dear Tutti Mangia, who is righteously saturated with the remnants of my past kisses. I fall in love with the Fourth of July parade, when the whole community comes out in shades of red, white and blue. Ribbons getting tangled in the curls of children with sticky fingers being pulled in Radio Flyer wagons. Happy faces eating delectable treats from Some Crust. I fall in love with the easy going nature of the people; progressive, cultured, educated and friendly. They are happy to tell you what cheeses are in at The Cheese Cave, that Eureka has the best fig marmalade burger, and which movies are playing at Laemmle's. Love is the only word that can describe how I feel about the warm days of Village Venture and bright Sunday mornings at the Farmers Market. Love is the tiny alley ways and cobbled streets that you find just by chance. It's the art that surprises you as you turn a random corner. It's the sweet smell of vinyl as you open those doors to Rhino Records. It's the art deco and mid century design that strikes a chord in your heart and you don't know why. I walk around the Village, drunk on love. It's a place for children, for families, for couples, for dogs for anyone who has ever loved something in their lives. Bring your love here. I have such fond memories of this place. It's a charming area with unique shops and restaurants. I used to hang out here a lot during my college days even though I didn't go to any of the colleges in the area. It's so relaxing and peaceful, I would come here just to unwind and walk around. There used to be a cool little coffee shop called Nick's Cafe where my friend and I would stop by to study. Most of the shops are old fashioned and very unique. My favorite places in the area are Rhino Records, Video Paradiso, Bert & Rocky's Cream Company, Some Crust Bakery, and Viva Madrid. Over the years it has gone through some changes and added lot of modern shops west of Indian Hill Blvd. I call the west side the New Village and east side the Old Village. West side has some cool restaurants like Back Abbey and Eureka Burger. Laemmle Claremont 5 is also on this side which is a cool place to watch indy films. One thing I don't get is why they added corporate whore like Starbucks on the sacred Old Village. It needs to move over to the west side. It just kills the mood. When I'm here I also like to take a walk over to many of the private colleges in this area like Harvey Mudd, Scripps, and Pomona College. The campuses are gorgeous, and the whole area makes you feel like you are in New England. There are so many unique trees and houses in the area. A friend of mine told me it's a crime to cut down trees in Claremont. They seem to take pride in having so many different types of trees. I just hope Claremont can maintain its old world charm and not conform to modern convenience. read more

I once heard someone say that there are towns you drive to and towns you drive through. Claremont is definitely a town you drive to. And it's in large part because of the Village. I live in Claremont and love that the village is just a quick walk from my house. We have everything - there's always tons to do; it's never more than a couple of weeks between festivals (okay, I'm exagerating a little but not much). Farmer's Market, Friday night street faires, beer festival, wine festival, pie festival... the list goes on for days. We have all kinds of restaurants, a jazz club, a comedy club - you name it. There are shops of all kinds and the train lets you off at the art deco station right in the center of it all.We even have seven liberal arts colleges. The only thing Claremont is lacking - and it's why I held back one star - is a bar. There are lots of bar/restaurant combos but no just plain bar. Surprising in a college town but sadly true. Hopefully someone will solve this problem before too long. In the meantime, come on over and check out Claremont. There's loads to love. read more

The Claremont Village is quite a charming place. You can take a leisurely stroll, window shop, find unique goods, and stop for a bite at many of the fine snack/dining establishments. Most of the businesses are independent, privately owned. For the most part, you won't find big box department stores here or chain/franchise restaurants (minus some of the coffee/juice shops). The Claremont Colleges and their beautiful campuses are just a couple blocks away. There are plenty of shady trees and little resting spots. Memorial Day 2019 So Claremont Village gets a generous 4 stars. I've seen it listed as an LA County day trip, but it's a stretch to call it a destination on a regular holiday Monday, with no festivities. It's a cute, well-kept college town with lots of restaurants and a tiny bit of shopping. Mostly independents, very few chain restaurants/stores. Walkable, with lots of parking. The Metro train stop is very close to the center of things, in a lovely station. This was a great place to meet a friend who lives deep in the IE; it's very central between Pasadena and the frontier lands ;-) Visit and be charmed, but don't buy the "destination" hype. read more
