This greenway is beautiful!!! I discovered this place the other day when I wanted to walk my dog somewhere new and I fell in love! It's gorgeous, clean and peaceful. I didn't walk the whole thing, but the area we did walk was so serene. There's some creeks and beautiful trees. It also runs right behind a neighborhood so there are backyards right there on the greenway and that was fun to see. There were a lot of people out and about so I felt perfectly safe. I will be back to the spot often!!! So fun and so pretty! read more

This might be my favorite greenway in Charlotte. Sure, Little Sugar Creek Greenway is great, but everyone knows about it and it's usually crowded. This greenway wasn't crowded in the morning when we went. We did 5.4 miles round trip which I believe was the whole greenway, but it connects to other greenways so you could definitely do more if you want. Like many greenways, it passes by houses/neighborhoods. The biggest reason why I love this one is because the houses are gorgeous and so fun to check out as you're walking by. There's plenty of parking at the school if you're there on a weekend. Check it out for your next outdoor activity in the city! read more

This is a great trail, there are a long web of trails that go about 25 miles and the trails are pretty well shaded, if you are one that likes to be protected from the sun like me, also there are some areas that are great for trail running and mountain biking as we'll these are hidden so look carefully you'll find them! My family and I loved this greenway! It's a highly shaded area with a fully paved asphalt trail. There's a creek that runs along side it & you can also enjoy views of the back of people's lovely homes along the way. We entered the greenway through the Mallard Creek elementary parking lot. There are plenty of spaces available and there is a park at the beginning of the trail. There are no restrooms along the trail, but there are mutt mitt stations for animals. This greenway has beautiful views and would be awesome for date night or time with the family. Check it out! You won't be disappointed. read more

Clark's Creek Greenway runs in the University Area and connects to several neighborhoods near Mallard Creek Rd/Prosperity Church Rd/West WT Harris. This greenway is all paved asphalt and starting from Mallard Creek Elementary School the portion of the Greenway is about 4 miles to where it dumps you out into a cul-de-sac of a neighborhood. Combined with Mallard Creek Greenway and the unpaved section (1.9miles) in University Research Park you can make a 12 mile run [out and back] or bike ride. If you start at the elementary school there's a big hill to get down to the creek area, and it's all uphill from there (slight grade)... the good thing about starting at the school is you park your car and go out.... when you turn around... it's downhill from there (except getting back to the parking lot). read more

There are houses along the trail which are pleasurable to enjoy along with the sound the of creek. Love this Greenway. I parked at the local Elementary School that is on the map. Parking is plentiful. There are a couple of dog areas with baggies and trashcans. Didn't see a lot of dog poop from neglectful parents which was great. The trail was very clean and spacious. It's a Greenway... It's a great way to enjoy Mother Nature while feeling safe and secure. This is the only greenway I know near concord which is close to where I live. It is roughly 8 miles one way but if take short side trips towards university add another 1 and half mile each way. The trail has many access points. I usually park my car in the Gotta yoga complex which is close to golf course and ride to the start of the trail at Fairview drive. The entry is between two houses. The first time I was there I thought that I was at the wrong address as I could not see the trail and was little unsure if I could park the car at cul de sac (I now park little complex which houses pizza and yoga ) and ride up to this place which is across the street. I later found that there are many other entry points where you can park the car, one of my favorite place is on Katelyn drive. Anyway, I ma usre you have an idea about where to park now. If you start from fairview rd, then it is a 8 mile ride one way(16 mi total) which is a little short for me so I soem time take up little trails which goes to the university and add another 1.5 miles one way. On days when there is still daylight left or if I ride on weekends, I usually take up the IBM drive or David Coheler(ITT building landmark) which houses several headquarters such as TIA Creff, Rack room shoes , HP, WSJ etc. This route is pretty nice as there is no traffic on weekends and it is pretty isolated after office during weekdays. Traffic - There is lot of foot traffic on weekends and evenings if the weather is good. Water - There is only on water fountain but that is at the end of the trail which ends in a big football field(not the american football) :-) at Kirkland farms on Tron st. Parking lot - If you decide to start at the other end of the trail, you have dedicated parking space on first come first serve basis(you will find a space as the place can house around 50-60 cars). I don't like starting here as there is no tree cover, but you can start with full bottle of water as this is the pnly pace where you will find a water fountain at the start of the trail. WildLife - Lots of rabbits, Squirrel, birds(in the morning), turtle, tortoise (Do not try to pick up a turtle as they snap and bite off you fingers literally and are pretty fast, I learnt it the hard way as I was trying to move them to the side of the trail). I have heard people have seen deer and foxes on rare occasions but I have never come across one so far. Food - If you feel hungry then you start de tor on Mallard creek and there quite a few to fill up and refuel. There is Mclister, asian cafe, Cakes and Flakes, Rita's, couple of chinese, Thai restaurants on Mallard creek and Harris junction. Trail type - Paved. Terrain - Flat. read more

Love love love! I'm from Colorado Springs and have always enjoyed hiking. While there are no mountains, the environment with all the trees makes me feel at home. It's truly a secluded, beautiful space and a great way to get around parts of the city. I've even used it to pick my daughter up from preschool. Definitely recommend others check it out. Wonderful!!! Its a great place to walk when you're on your lunchtime.I work on David Taylor and have had two adventures thusfar on this greenway. The first lead me to the rear of the building im in to the field where there is a gravel road. People here said I can get the greenway from here...surebetcha! It ends in a field where you have to either trek thru the trees to get to some business road,but it pours you out onto govenors hunt drive.go across the street and you'll see a path to the greenway.Watchout..its steep. go down the path and you will hit a crossroad.Go either right or left.I went right along the creek up til mallard creek road where I saw squirrells and such, and some flirty girls at the montessori school.Then I turned back, went the same way back, got caught in some bramble bushes from an ill fated short cut. This is about an hour trek. Today instead of trekking thru the trees,I decided to take the short cut over the fence. please be taller than 6 feet because the fence is cut square and not much room to breathe down there.Well im just under 6 feet so after my engagement with the fence, the hill on the other side was steep and slippery. I got to governor hunt drive, went down the path and went left today. it takes you back to David Taylor.I went left up the first trail and crossed two bridges to a gradual climb to the intersection.Then back onto David Taylor to work.up a hill and a dale. This is about 25-30 minutes. read more

I've been riding on Mallard/Clarks Creek Greenway for several months now. I'm new to cycling and figured that this would be a good learning point before dealing with traffic on the open road. Plus it's one of the only Greenways in this area that is longer than 2 miles one way. The paved section is around 10miles (out and back) so you can get a decent "newbie" ride. I like and don't like how it winds behind housing developments. It's nice to see what the Jones' are up to but also kind of creepy thinking that you may be watched. The route is a good workout with some small, slight climbs and turns. Parts of it is uphill a little bit (mostly heading back from Saxonbury way). There is a lot of activity during the warmer days. Plenty of dog walkers and other fellow bikers. Parking at the Elementary School can be limited, especially if going around 2 o'clock and the uphill climb is brutal when you are returning to your car. There is also parking along Saxonbury way which is very accessible and if you're eager for more, then you can ride throughout the neighborhood too. The trail is decently maintained but I think that may have to do with the budget cuts in Charlotte. You will definitely find better maintained Greenways in the counties north of Charlotte (i.e. Davidson and Cabarrus). The main issue with this is dodging sticks and debris after a storm the night before and also navigating across the bridges. I'm afraid of losing a tire over some of them with their gnarly, knotty wood. It would be nice if they had water fountains and Doggie Depots along the greenway but I may just be spoiled from Cabarrus County. You can easily make this a 12miler by adding the University Research trail and the Kirk Farm Fields trail. I will say that if you have a Road bike then it may be an uncomfortable and unstable ride through the research park as it's loose gravel/rock. However, if you are on a Hybrid bike or MB then you will do just fine. I particularly love the Research trail route for the scenery along the creek. It reminds me of a winding forrest trail in the mountains. read more

Discovered this trail today and it's only 2 miles from my home!! Recently moved from the Ballantyne area, where I walked/jogged at the 4 mile Creek near Trader Joe's. This Greenway is wider than the 4 mile one allowing for bikers, runner, walkers to easily share the road! Gained access off of Prosperity Church Rd. and Katelyn Dr. Enjoy the trail and take in all the nice homes and stream along the route! read more

I simply love the fact that this Greenway runs directly through so many neighborhoods. It has easy access and ample parking at every access point. You are sure to meet a lot of friendly canines as you're going on your bike ride or walk. People are generally really great about picking up after their dog and there are plenty of waste stations along the way. I love the fact that the bridges run over the creeks back-and-forth as they wind their way down the trail. It's also really great that you're able to move basically away from all traffic from Mallard Creek Church Road to UNC Charlotte. If you're a fan of Pokémon Go, you'll see plenty of the golden fish and there are a few Pokestops along the way. Watch out for some of the tree roots that have bubbled up under the asphalt. They don't seem to be dangerous and they are frequently highlighted by orange spray paint as a precaution. read more

Super cute greenway! Very wide paths, plenty of space to ride, run, or walk in both directions. Plenty of trash cans and dog bag stations and very clean! I did not see one piece of trash on our 2 mile walk. I like that the trees are overgrown and provide shade most of the path so you're not too hot! People's backyards line most of the path we walked, which made me feel more safe and comfortable. I loved the little creek that runs the entire way, and the foot bridges! My only suggestion would be to have maps out there on the trails. It was our first visit and we hard a hard time finding any maps online and wasn't sure how far to go. They have mile markers and spray painted labels on the path which helps if you have a map haha. read more

My dog and I love the greenway! I feel safe since it's by all of these houses. Also, it's shaded which is nice on these hot summer days.

The greenway is a great place to go for a run. This greenway is located right by my house and is easy to access. The path for the most part is usually clear of debris and grass around it is mowed. The path runs right along with the creek and even crosses it a couple times with nice bridges. You will definitely feel more out in nature if you want to escape "city life". It is set back away from most roads so you don't have too much traffic noise if you also want to escape that. The shape is like a Y, splitting near the Mallard Creek Rd overpass. I would stay away from the "branch" of the Y that goes towards Harris Blvd as it seems less safe to me. The path also connects with an unpaved portion that heads towards the University area and runs into the paved section connected to the University. Overall, the greenway is a great place to go for a walk, jog, run, or bike! This is a great resource throughout the Charlotte communities that people should take advantage of! read more
