We had come here on a Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm for lunch. When we had first walked-in, we were pleasantly surprised to notice how nice the restaurant was. It was decorated beautifully, with chic artwork and beautiful music playing on the speaker. We had made reservations in advance however, we then realized that reservations weren't necessary, as the restaurant only had guests at 2-3 tables at that time. We were greeted by a server, whom then brought us to the table that was reserved for us. Upon first being seated, we noticed that this particular server wasn't too friendly; she would complete her duties as required however, she seemed bothered, and didn't seem to be enthused to be serving us. Nonetheless, after placing our orders, we then waited patiently for the food to arrive. We had first settled on the calamari fritti, which were, too overcooked. They were much more crunchier than they should have been, tasting only somewhat more appetizing when dipped in the accompanying sauce. For our main dishes, I had settled on the veal masala with a mushroom sauce, with a side of vegetables and one potato (which I found a bit odd). The veal was tender, however, there was hardly any of it, along with the potatoes, which consisted of, only one potato. The vegetables were plentiful though, which was what filled me up. My mother had settled on the chicken, which one again, had one potato, and too much cream sauce. The pasta that my daughter ordered had a lot of meat in the sauce however, the meat was salty, and the pasta didn't have enough salt on it. Considering the price that we had paid, we were expecting a better array of food alas, we were disappointed. We even asked if complimentary bread was given, with the waitress looking confused. Overall, this restaurant had a great vibe to it however, we didn't find the server to be inviting, along with the food, which wasn't too appetizing. We wouldn't come back to this restaurant, and would reconsider our options for the next time. read more

I came here expecting a pretty good, solid meal, but I left with my expectations far exceeded. In fact, I was only here as we did a search for Italian when I was in the area and saw that it had fairly strong reviews. It's not really a trendy place, with the decor and the menu that could easy fit into 2005 seamlessly - but that's not a bad thing. When we came, they had an anniversary special for $39 which came with an appetizer, a main and a dessert. Both my wife and I opted for it. For appetizers, we chose: a beet salad and a crab cake. For entrees, my wife went with arctic char with roasted potato and veggies. I went with butternut squash ravioli. And for dessert we both got creme brulee. The quality of the ingredients and the food preparation really stood out. My wife absolutely loved her fish and said it was the best she's had in awhile. The sauce from my ravioli was so good that I took the remainder home. We were very happy with the service throughout. It all comes down to execution. If you were to read the menu, it looks pleasant enough, but it might not jump out you either. But I can say that if they're consistent, you will really enjoy your meal and probably have your expectations exceeded. read more

I was here on a Thursday evening. Not crowded at all but again, Thursday. Seafood chowder, shrimp and spinach with angel hair pasta and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was spot on! Staff were great, but the food was disappointing. The "Cheese Plate" looked like it was put together by a 10 year old, with cracker barrel and soda crackers (see picture). The "Ceasar Salad" was simple but tasty, possibly made from scratch, and with real anchovies. Fish was decent but nothing to write home about. The "Seafood Chowder" tasted like campbells vegetable soup with a few pieces of seafood thrown in. The "Veal Marsala" was a piece of overcooked meat drowning in a bland sauce that tasted like it had been slightly burnt. The "Panna Cotta" was firm like white jello with watery strawberry jam spooned over top. But the "Crème Brulée" was actually quite good. Very disappointing as the menu sounded delicious. Extremely good experience! Beautiful large, yet intimate restaurant. Great service. Large menu with plenty to choose from in pastas, risotto, meats. Great appetizers and desserts too. I came with a Groupon, which has a special menu. I was initially concerned About that, cause I've had bad experiences with Groupon-only menus. But not here! You start with bruscgetta, so many tomatoes they fall off! The only thing missing was a drizzle of olive oil and salt! And a cheese plate. The calamari salad is spectacular. Dressing is so flavourful, with has nuts and raisins. And an abundance of freshly fried calamari! The Manhattan fish chowder is a tomato base, with mussels, shrimp and a small scallop, and some fish. Served piping hot in a beautiful bowl. The Arctic Char with veggies and potato is outstanding. Beautiful, properly thickened white wine and lemon sauce! I could have licked the plate! The veal with goat cheese was also very good. The creme brûlee is excellent, as is the vanilla-lemon panacotta with fresh strawberry sauce! I am certain that their regular menu is outstanding too! Disclosure: Came here for "Taste of Clarkson", which is like a Winterlicious...but less crowds and less participating restaurants. My table was 1 out of 3 parties who were at Clarkson Mediterranean Bistro for lunch, mid-week, so although I had reservations online, I honestly don't think you need them...during the week. Weekend may be different, especially with the current promotion. Server was naturally friendly and was there when we needed him. Attentive, but not overbearing which is how I prefer waitstaff to be. And not pretentious in the least. I hate pretentious waitstaff...especially when you're the one who's paying. Everything on the menu sounded pretty good! It was $18 for 2-course and $22 for a 3-course lunch. The restaurant also had $5, yes $5!, cocktail specials from 2:30-5:30pm, during the week. Otherwise, it was $7.95, still not a bad price! After we ordered, we were given complimentary bruschetta which was good. What we ordered: Seafood Chowder, Calamari Salad, Seafood Linguini, Veal Marsala, Panna Cotta, & Tartufo. Between my friend's choices and mine, I think I preferred mine (Salad, Pasta, Panna Cotta), but dessert-wise, it was a toss-up. I found the Chowder and Marsala needed a tad more seasoning, but still very good, and you can taste the quality in the ingredients. Political aside: The restaurant is owned by 2 Sri Lankans. My SL friend spoke to 1 of the owners and he was very down-to-earth. And as a visible minority, it is nice to see some diversity, not only in the kitchen as chefs, but also as actual restauranteurs. I had no idea this restaurant existed and I've lived here for six years! Wish I came sooner.. Came here for Mother's Day for a party of 5 plus baby. I didn't realize how swanky it was until I got in- I was wearing sandals so I felt kind of bad (oops! Lol) but they didn't make me feel uncomfortable because of it. They gladly made space for the baby and put us in front of the window where you can watch the chefs cooking- very cool! Let me just tell you, the bread is so soft and delicious! We had to order a second one. Also, our food tasted delicious (my brother's steak was melt-on-the-mouth amazing!) and my mom and I loved our fix-priced menu that we ordered from. I got the lobster bisque as an appetizer and the seafood linguine for my main, followed by the creme brûlée for dessert. All of it was just amazing. We also ordered two plates of the calamari appetizer because it was that good! The pieces were cooked to perfection and were big sizes (not small squid pieces like some restaurants serve). Our main server was a guy named Kevin (super friendly and attentive) and we were also being served by another guy that has a bit of an angry grandpa vibe lol it was kind of funny. Mother's day weekend and we were in a group of eight. But for some reason the food was late. Almost two hours late, can't blame them because I did only see one cook in the back and that poor man was probably struggling. The restaurant gave us free bruschetta and glasses of wine for the wait so that helped. I ordered the seafood linguine and it was just so delicious. They had so many mussels and shrimps that I even counted them all in total. The sauce was simple but flavourful. Pretty much devoured it because I was so hungry. He enjoyed both :) I thought my beet salad was missing some acidity or pop. He had the veal scallopini and it was okay, I had the seafood linguini and my partner ate all the seafood but the sauce and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The creme brulee's sugar top was delish!!! A delightful surprise. We had wanted to try somewhere in Clarkson but knew nothing of what was available. We found this place through a "5 top restaurants in Clarkson" listing in the local paper. The decor was really nice. Elegant without being intimidating. White tablecloths, beautifully done out place settings. The lighting is low and intimate but not too dark. The service was excellent, efficient without being pushy.(Unlike many of the "corporate" places where one is greeted by a bouncy young person with a fake smile. You know the type.) While we waited for our orders to arrive, they served us tiny slices of bruschetta along with some delicious slices of warm bread. I ordered the Soup of the Day which was Roasted Red Pepper and carrot. Delicious. It arrived in a deceptively shallow bowl, which turned out to be bottomless! My main course was Mushroom Risotto, a dish I have rarely seen on a menu here. Wow, was it ever delicious and really filling. My husband ordered the Veal Chop. This was huge and done to perfection. I came here recently for a quiet dinner with my mum. The service was excellent. We were presented with a complimentary bruschetta sampler to start off with, which was great, as well as garlic bread. We ordered the warm goat cheese salad and the beet salad to start - both were delicious. We both had pasta dishes for our entrées (I had the gnocchi). The portions are a good size and the pasta is very reasonably priced and delicious. I was surprised by the quality of this restaurant considering its low-profile location. I'm going to say "just ok" they need to rediscover how to cook muscles, wrong variety and way to small to offer as an appetizer. They need to get a better, bigger species. The sauce was a wrong choice for the plate, borderline cream sauce and for this type of appy you need s broth based. On my entree the vegetables were plated and waiting for the main so obviously the veggies were cold. My guest had the special, it was a jumbo shrimp and a white fish. The sauce was much too salty and it basically overshot the taste of everything on the plate. They just they just need to refine some things and study what true met cooking is. read more

It has great reviews so while in the neighborhood, we tried some dishes at the bar while waiting for takeaways. Staff was attentive, dining area clean and well presented, however, the food prep/plateing/taste did not meet my expectations. It was reminiscent restaurants from the early 80s that had difficulty with controlling their seasonings and/or lack thereof. If I do try here again, I would steer clear of the octopus since it is very tough and the olives that come with them are overly salty for my palette. GF pasta option is available, however, for us, it was not prepared for optimal aldente texture and the creamy sauce lacked depth and aroma. The roasted chicken seemed to have been cooked the day (or many days) before, almost tasteless and warmed up in the microwave. Perhaps we got these guys on an off night? read more

We ordered takeout, the food was cold, the mash potatoes were hard like a brick and cold, the salad was drenched with dressing (it was like eating caesar soup) and the beet salad tasted and wreaked of strong perfume! We called to ask what was in the beet salad because my wife is pregnant and was very ill after consuming part of the salad. The manager pretended he couldn't hear us and told us he was too busy and dismissed our complaint. When we asked for an apology he refused and said they did nothing wrong. I am absolutely appalled at the level of customer service. And to dismiss a complaint of a possible toxicity in their food is outrageous and risky. We will never return again! Beware! read more

After a string of bad luck in 2015 we finally had a good meal and that Med. Bistro is close by is very much an added bonus. While it was nice that we were offered a plate of bruschetta at no charge it had very little taste. The small portioned Italian vegetable soup was a 3.5. The veal medallions (4.5) were plated nicely and perfectly complimented with fresh vegetables. There is no question we'll be back as The Bistro is our favourite choice on the Clarkson Lakeshore road strip. read more

We are very pleased with this restaurant; went there to celebrate my son's birthday, and got excellent service. The new owner pays extra attention to guests, they offer free bruchetta for staters, and all staff is very attentive as well. Food is good and not very expensive, although the steaks were a little bit overcooked. Decor is quite nice too, and in the summer they have a street patio. We've been here a few times and will definitely be back again. Each time the food has exceeded expectations, and the service is attentive without being pushy. The place really should be packed most nights but it's never a problem getting a seat. The last time we were in one member of our party wanted gnocchi but not the way it was described on the menu so they made a dish to order and it was delicious, as were all of our other entrees - two fish dishes and a steak. With prices that are surprisingly reasonable for such great quality this place deserves to be a neighbourhood favourite. read more

Came here for the "once in a couple years" gourmet dinner with family. Our chance to dress fancily and pretend like we understand what it says on the menu. For apps, we got the grilled tiger shrimp and grilled calamari, and a warm cheese salad. Refreshing to eat calamari grilled instead of fried, which is probably why I was a little confused when I saw the dish. A little chewy though. The shrimp however were cooked perfectly and the sauce they served it in was very tasty. Warm goat cheese tastes so good too! For entrées, we got a primavera pizza, a fusilli ricardo (which has a wine rose sauce), the chicken supreme (which is stuffed with a mixture of goat cheese, broccoli and mushroom) and the seafood risotto. The pizza was thin crust (good), but cooked a little too crisp and did not have enough cheese. Pasta was really good, the sauce was excellent. The stuffing in the chicken was an interesting combination but went really well and the cream sauce it was swimming in was just amazing. Seafood risotto also very good, rice cooked well, lots of shrimp and mussels, although a little difficult to enjoy the mussels when there is rice stuffed inside. Dessert was the affogato and the crème brulee, both standard. Amazingly, the place wasn't too packed when we went, but then again, it was a Sunday evening. Excellent service. The service was perfect - and I literally mean perfect. Our waiter constantly checked up on us and refilled our water, and the employees were so kind that it delivered such a great atmosphere to sit in and dine. The food was amazing, I ordered the chicken risotto and it was so fresh, creamy, and perfect in texture. It could not have been any better, this was my first visit here and they really made a great impression and I will definitely be coming back. The only downside is that since I went on Valentine's Day, it took a while for them to deliver our food, but it's totally understanding since it was busy. We visited the Bistro as a couple last evening on a Groupon (four course dinners for two; apparently the Groupon excludes use during "Taste of Clarkson", but we called them and were told they would still be happy to honour the Groupon). We had visited the location before some years ago when it was under the name Solara (that was a rather poor showing), but based on the many great reviews we've seen since the name change, we thought it would be worth trying again. We were glad we did! We entered from the back (parking lot) entrance, and were seated promptly. The decor was nice, with subdued lighting and nicely laid out tables. It seemed that the place was about half full of diners when we arrived at half past six. Our waiter was efficient and provided the four-course prix fixe menu and took our drink orders. I decided on the seafood chowder to start, and the arctic char for the main, while my partner went with the fish cake to start, and the seafood linguine for the main. The shared first course was a cheese plate (mix of greens/olives with cheddar, asiago, and bread batonets) and a two portion taster of bruschetta. The bruschetta was well prepared and very tasty. The starters were pretty good. The fish cake was on the bready side, but still moist enough and adequately drizzled with what I took to be tapenade, while the chowder was the clear winner of this course, tasting like a nicely fishy bouillabaisse with a couple whole mussels for a nice presentation. The mains were also good. The seafood linguine comes with plenty of calamari, shrimps, mussels and clams and the marinara sauce is pleasantly mild. The char looked and tasted to me to be suspiciously similar to a trout fillet, but I am not an expert and haven't had char in a while, so I gave that a pass. It was perfectly grilled and had a perfect dollop of lemony butter sauce, and came with veggies that were also very nicely roasted (though a bit salty). For the dessert, we ordered the creme brulee and the tartufo. Both tasted great, and were done perfectly. The caramelized sugar crust of the brulee was the perfect thickness, cracking like thin ice under the spoon. The tartufo was also lovely, with the almond-bit crust, cream, and pistachio centre layered just perfectly. While I was initially apprehensive of what we would find at this Bistro, based on our experience, I was very happy we came to try it and had a great evening out, and we look forward to visiting them again. read more

We own a business across the street and come on regular basis to this place. The pasta is AMAZING!!! The service is great, the place is clean and great for business meetings. The hot sauce is made in-house by one of their staff who learned the recipe in Pakistan and it is soon good! read more
