Fall off the bone soft with excellent flavour. Might be the best lamb shank I've ever had. Served on a bed or nice vegetables and a delicious potato puree. The eggplant dip was a recommendation from the server in the bar area and it did not disappoint. The dip was fresh, well played, and the pita/bread was made in-house. Highly recommend asking for it warmed and drizzling a little olive oil on the dip when you eat it. The Chilean seabass is a must-have. We really liked the Saganaki as it's not overly salty considering they used kefalotyri cheese. The grilled calamari consists of mix greens,is lightly charred and goes well with the bell peppers, onions, olives and vinaigrette. For our mains, the dishes ranges from seafood where someone ordered the Grilled Whole Sea Bass & Fisherman's Stew, pasta (Orecchiette Pasta) and meats - Braised Lamb Shank & Grilled Organic Chicken Breast. The star of the show imo is the Braised Lamb Shank. Not really a fan of lamb due to their grassy/gamey taste but nowhere will you get this taste from Volos' lamb shank. Rich, juicy and flavourful, the fall-of-the-bone lamb shank is so succulent. Every bite sets off a happy fireworks on your tongue that you can't get enough of it! Another stellar dish is their Saffron Pistachio Ice Cream. Incredibly creamy and with the predominant taste and smell of the saffron, I really love this dessert. This dessert is swoon worthy and not to be missed here. Yes Volos is on the pricey side but the experience and quality of food alone are worth both the price. Also one of the few restaurants who doesn't add automatic gratuity for large parties which is surprising since almost all the restaurants we've been to are doing this. The restaurant itself is quite nice and located in the heart of downtown. I ordered the Moussaka. I have to say I am a tad disappointed. For the price, the portion size was very tiny. It tasted alright. The desserts are small too and quite steep. ($10) My friends who ordered other dishes were very impressed with their meal. So I guess I ordered the wrong thing. Lovely place with a charming, well-balanced vibe :) On one hand, the interior was quietly beautiful and almost understated with the sparkling lights, the candles on the tables, and white tablecloths. Service was polite and flawless - in the way that they would refill water glasses just as they become almost empty and without a word, or appear with the card machine as soon as the credit card comes out, or magically arrive to clear the plates the moment we were done with the food, not a second too soon or too late! On the other hand, there was the exciting open kitchen where we could watch the chefs light various things on fire, and the equally exciting spectacle where we watched our waiter light the saganaki on fire. There was the Greek music and shouts of "Opa!" which definitely helped heighten the atmosphere. All of these made for a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was quite nice as well. Knowing this restaurant features their seafood dishes, we ordered the grilled sea bass and the fisherman's stew, both of which were great. I particularly loved the stew, which came with an abundance of a wide variety of seafood in a thick tomato broth, served with some deliciously crispy garlic bread. And how could I forget the (FREE WITH YELP CHECK-IN) saganaki - I usually avoid cheese because of a slight lactose intolerance, but I think this one was worth the risk. Perfectly melted and smooth with a slight crunch on the outside. Somewhat salty though. Prices are expensive, but then what isn't around here? Got a free saganaki for checking in on Yelp! It was flamed kefalotyri, lemon, and ouzo. Lots of fun and entertaining for 15 CAD. I'd never heard of saganaki before, so it was fun to try the fried cheese with my group. Very greasy though. Opa! I got the Fisherman's stew for 31 CAD for my dinner. Wild salmon, tiger prawns, calamari, mussels, saffron tomato broth, and garlic toast sounded really good on the menu, but the actual dish was just okay. We had two servers for our table, and it was a little disorganized because they both came by at different times and asked us the same questions. It looked like the two of them served the entire restaurant, so not sure why they didn't divide the room in half and take separate tables. There was also no bartender, so one of the servers also had to double as the bartender, so service overall was a bit slow. read more

Went for Winterlicious, the food was amazing. Shrimp Saganaki - Delicious. Shrimp and tomato soup are always good combo, the pinch of cheese took the flavour to another level. Octopus Salad - Octopus was very soft and well marinated. Sea Bass - It was grilled perfectly, unlike most of the grilled fishes that always go dry, the fish was soft and juicy. Lamb Shank - SO GOOD. The meat was well processed and seasoned, I couldn't even taste that strong smell, which is my most fear of eating lamb. Their meat was so tender. Highly recommended. Came here for a Summerlicious birthday meal, and was quite impressed! Typically, I avoid Summerlicious now as I find it to be very pricey but also very mediocre quality. This was particularly true after witnessing my friends' Bar Buca winterlicious meal. That said, after much scrounging and close scrutinization of all participants' menus, I settled on Volos as it seemed to be the biggest bang for buck - and I wasn't disappointed! As some of us chose to order a la carte, we were able to check in and redeem the free saganaki appetizer. Opa! The flames were very impressive, but even more so was the cheese. The kefalotyri cheese was steamy and bubbly, with a lovely seared and hardened top. I'm not typically a fan of cheese, but this was amazing. The bread was also on point; served slightly warm, it matched the olive oil completely. I ordered the grilled octopus appetizer, fisherman's stew main, and ouzo chocolate mousse dessert. I also got to sample the grilled calamari ordered by a friend, the Summerlicious lamb shank main, and the baklava dessert. Grilled Octopus: This appetizer was quite large in size; it came with a small side of arugula salad, baba ganoush, and 3-4 grilled tentacles. The salad was dressed very nicely with the perfect lemon vinaigrette. It was my first time trying the baba ganoush, which was nice and smokey, but the texture and taste did throw me off at first. Unfortunately, I found the tentacles to be a tad disappointing. I hoped that the ends would be perfectly charred and grilled, but they came limp and tender. I don't think that they were flame grilled for an adequate time after boiling. Perhaps the name should have been boiled octopus... I also found the balsamic vinegar to be a bit too overwhelming and masked the subtle flavour of the octopus. Grilled Calamari: These pieces of calamari (four in total) came dressed with grilled tomatoes, sweet peppers, and olives. It was a nice and light dish, and the calamari was perfectly al dente. I quite enjoyed this, and actually preferred it over my main. Fisherman Stew: This was a quite comforting main, served with two pieces of garlic bread. The bread was crisp, warm, and so fragrant! While I did enjoy the main and loved the massive, al dente shrimp, and flaky, juicy pieces of sea bass, I found the broth to be overly salty and tomatoey. I wish that there were more flavours to balance it out, including a more subtle sweetness instead of aggressive brine and pepper. The mussels were slightly small and difficult to eat, but overall I found this main to be quite lovely. Braised Lamb Shank: This is the perfect main for those who prefer a more gamey meat taste! The shank comes in bone, served upon an impressive mound of mashed potatoes and wilted greens. My friend found it a tad heavy due to the strong gamey flavour, but I enjoyed my couple bites from it! Ouzo Chocolate Mousse: This is an extremely rich and heavy dessert - but I loved every aspect of it!! The mousse is whipped to be unbelievably light, but the flavour of chocolate is undeniably strong. It's not too sweet by any means, and the dollop of chantilly is the perfect final fluffy touch. The whole dessert is like a rich chocolate cloud. Flourless Chocolate Cake: Due to the lack of flour, this dessert tasted like an avocado chocolate cake. While sweeter than the mousse, it still had a strong chocolate flavour but was quite dense. The texture didn't resonate much with me, but it was okay. Baklava: I had one bite of this dessert, and my friend and I agreed that it is very similar in taste to an apple crumble pie. It's a fairly large dessert, so she packed it to go after our Summerlicious feast! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Volos. The restaurant has an amazing ambiance that's perfect for dinner dates and outings, and the servers are so kind! I found the service to be phenomenal, and well deserving of the 18% gratuity they add to groups larger than 6 (we were 9). It's a bit on the pricey side, but is a nice place if you're looking to splurge a bit and treat yourself! read more

If I had to describe this restaurant in one word, it would be - mediocre. We went for dinner a couple of weeks back. The hostess was very pleasant and had us seated. Good start. Now for the not so good Volos is priced as a higher end restaurant. The first impression one gets is the decor. We were seated near the kitchen. Where it was quite ordinary. The ceiling was open and you could see the vents and wiring. Average looking chairs. With the prices Volos charges, decor should be a factor. The biggest disappointment was our server. We planned to share several appetizers rather than ordering mains. Her face visibly fell when she heard that. We ended up ordering over 5 appetizers over the course of the evening, so it wasn't a cheap evening. Plus dessert. However, our server never stopped by after taking our initial drink and dinner order. So much so that we had to ask another server to get us more drinks. At which she magically reappeared at our table with the drinks. The food itself was also mediocre. Compare it one of the older and better known restaurants in the Danforth. One of the few Greek restaurants in the core of downtown Toronto and it was a good first experience. The service was great from the moment we walked in, friendly host and servers. The restaurant seems great for all crowds, we saw families with little kids, groups celebrating birthdays and older adults just having a good time for dinner. They had a great selection of drinks, Greek wine, California wine, Italian wine, as well as cocktails and beer. They're menu wasn't too large, just enough to not be overwhelmed with the selection! We started with the hummus and pita which was delicious, I always appreciate a good hummus. I then got the gluten free penne with atlantic salmon and that was also very flavorful. My friends got the sea bass, and braised lamb shank which they mentioned was great. We finished the night with the saffron ice cream, which I really enjoyed, the rose water did not overwhelm the taste. We have been to volos twice so far, both times were on Valentine's day, two years apart. This place deserves a 5 star review. The food is amazing, the service is extremely friendly and the staff are knowledgeable. The place has a cozy mediterranean vibe to it. The kitchen is open concept so you can see what's going on in it, and the space is sparkling clean. On our second visit, we got the whole red snapper, the market price for which was $49, and the fisherman's stew. Both were extremely delicious. The broth for the stew was so flavourful but not too fishy. The red snapper was cooked to perfection and the sides that came with it complemented it so well. My husband and I enjoyed dining at Volos and we will definitely be back. Also, free saganaki with yelp check-in!! They set it on fire at the table, it's so entertaining! Great spot for groups! Visited on a Friday night for the Summerlicious dinner menu. Made reservations for 5 which was easily handled online and seamless. Got the grilled octopus, braised lamb shank, and chocolate mousse. Also a bonus that a Yelp check in gets you a free saganaki (appetizer). The saganaki is their flaming cheese and its quite the spectacle with the dish being doused in flames in front of you! It was very warm and soft and goes super well with the provided bread. The grilled octopus was delicious and tender while contrasting the overly strong vinaigrette. The lamb shank was the highlight for me. It fell right off the bone and was seasoned nicely, mixing with the mashed potatoes and some vegetables. Finally, the chocolate mousse was very rich with some fruits and whipped cream. Service was very friendly and provided good recommendations regarding things such as drink pairings for the menu. I tried traditional greek dish moussaka and it was not bad but nothing special, if the dish price was about $15 bucks it would be worth it but for $24 it is overpriced. My partner had snapper for $43 and it was very bland with no taste at all, I could honestly say I do cook fish better at home, and for this price I would expect better quality. If I were the one ordering this dish, I would immidiately send it back to the kitchen, it was just tasteless. The appetizer Saganaki we got was in flames and looked very intersting, it wasn't bad. We called in a few days in advanced for a table of 4 for dinner and they informed us that the only table left was a table for 12 in which we would get a section of. This was fine with us, I appreciated the heads up and the table ended up being nicely separated. When we arrived, we were impressed at how nicely decorated it was as we had no idea what to expect from an upscale Greek restaurant. I ordered the Tiger Prawn Saganaki, the Lamb Shank and the Baklava. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the menu was $35 instead of the $38 that was stated on the Winterlicious site. We were kicking ourselves the next day when a friend informed us that we could have gotten a free Saganaki if we checked in on Yelp. Oh well. Everything we ordered was good and came out quickly, but it didn't overly impress us. The lamb was really tender and a decent size. I got to try a bit of the hen which was something new, and although the taste was decent, I felt it was a little dry. After my meal, I was surprised that I didn't feel full after. Seafood Krithoroto: Wow... can the seafood here get any better? There's a good balance of seafood to orzo, so you're sure to get a good mix of seafood and orzo in every bite. The calamari is so soft and tender, salmon is flaky and melts in your mouth, and the prawns and mussels are cooked to perfection. Lamb Shank: Probably one of the best lamb dishes i've ever had - the lamb is so tender and juicy, falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The flavours aren't too over powerful and they do provide a good balance of sides to complement the lamb which is really the star of the dish. Braised Greens: You really do get a lot of greens (asparagus and swiss chard) for $7. It's a great addition especially if your dish is seafood and pasta heavy. Chocolate Mousse: The mousse was so chocolately rich and velvety but very light at the same time. Even if you're super full from dinner, it's light enough to add on and complete your meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing; there are a lot of candles and cultured ornaments (ie. vases on stands, engravings on the wall) displayed all over. Even the door frames and textiles added liveliness to the Greek restaurant's culture. The service was also very delightful, we were well catered to with respect to the timing of food served, as well as water refilled. Additionally, the staff was well-humoured, sociable, and extremely courteous (way beyond expectations). Summerlicious dinner ~$35 Grilled Moroccan Octopus (VOLOS Organic Olive Oil & Balsamic Dressing) - octopus was juicy and succulent and topped with a minimalistic amount of balsamic glaze; I've also never tried arugula this grassy which was delish; it was served with a side of green coloured puree which I couldn't quite figure out Braised Lamb Shank (Feta Mashed Potatoes, Swiss Chard & Crispy Leeks) - the lamb was extremely tender and literally fell off the bone once my knife touched it! the crispy leek garnishing was a very interesting touch of something-something; the chard has a dry chewy texture but went extremely well with the richly flavoured and delicious mashed potatoes (I'm drooling just thinking of it) Traditional Baklava (Phyllo Pastry, Honey, Walnuts & Pistachios) - the phyllo layers were separated with the top being flakier and crispy, and the bottom had crushed nuts sitting on a honey-drenched layer, which was reminiscent of a granola bar; served with a dash of strawberries and blueberries Lastly, I was intrigued by these flaming dishes that were served around our tables, and they turned out to be the flaming cheese appetizer~$13 Saganaki (Kefalotyri Cheese, Ouzo & Lemon) - the server would come out to flame the cheese and put it out with lemon juice immediately before putting it on our table. It was quite a unique sight that happened to be extremely tasty as well. The cheese was like a saltier version of Parmesan (which happens to be one of my fave), and it was well savoured. I could barely taste the sweetness from the Ouzo but that was completely okay! The outside of the cheese was crispy and the inside was really chewy and just a tad stringy. This dish has heightened my standards for cheese. Hands down the most pleasant summerlicious experience I've ever had. read more

Check in and get the free saganaki!! That may have been the highlight of our meal. Delicious triangle of flaming cheese doused with lemon juice, the perfect blend of sour and salty. After eating an entire saganaki to myself (with baguette slices), I was already quite full. But the mains came and my appetite was back! We had the whole grilled sea bass and the lamb shank. I preferred the fish but my counterpart preferred the lamb! Both were very tasty - I think it was just a matter of which dish we started off with first (cause it was hotter when we ate it). By the time we switched plates with each other, they had cooled down significantly. Lamb shank was fall-off-the bone, but I wouldn't say it stood out to me flavour-wise. Incredible venue for a group dinner or a quiet dinner with your date. Food: I had the Seafood Kritharoto which was a medley of freshly cooked season (shrimp with cooked to perfection) on a plate of orzo. I also shared the saganaki appetizer which offered a fiery display prior to the serving. Service : Very patient with our group size and happily split bills for us. Our waiter Tim was fantastic and his recommendations on the menu were spot on. Great place for a causal dinner or gathering for friends.
