After revisiting this place at night I would like to say I had a better experience than I previously had. I had an amazing experience at Classic Bean tonight! The food was top-notch, bursting with fresh flavors that never let me down. The carrot cake was a slice of heaven--moist, perfectly spiced, and topped with a smooth, rich cream cheese frosting that complemented the cake's warmth beautifully. Each bite was just the right balance of sweetness and depth. The hot chocolate was decadent and comforting, with a velvety texture and just the right amount of chocolatey richness. It was served piping hot, topped with a fluffy cloud of whipped cream, making it the perfect pairing to finish off a cozy night. The service was impeccable - our server was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambience was perfect for a night out, with a cozy yet lively vibe. I used to work at the shop close to here so I came in a lot almost everyday And honestly I was nice to look forward to The food and drinks are very good my favorite was a caramel chai with a chocolate scone Lots of variety The employees are super sweet super patient wich I appreciated because I was very brain dead after work Loved the service The lay out of the shop is great There tables with high stoles or soft couches It seems like a coffee shop you could go a read for a while in I have only herd the live music once and that's a found memory Honestly the only thing is I wish I could view the whole menu better The have a menu but I'll see someone with a boba tea and it's like " wow they have boba tea?" If you guys don't want to make hot coffee, then you should just tell your patrons that and remove it all from the menu. It took me 15 minutes to get something that's actually on your menu. I don't get it. I'm guessing you must have a toxic work culture because you continue to runoff your employees because you're always in a staffing shortage. I saw multiple cold coffees and cold drinks come out before my stupid little hot coffee came out. WTAF. So disappointing. Conveniently located next to Office Max and around the parking lot from Dillon's. Do take care to mind the directional traffic flow in front of the building This is a large comfy space with many different conversation areas and a stage. The menu offers a good variety of food and staggering amount of beverage options: the hot tea choices line the counter; there is an entire page of syrup choices - and apparently now they also have bubble tea? If you can't find it here I don't think it exists in latte form. I ordered one of the seasonal flavors in ice, and they kindly made it with half the syrup on request (white chocolate and almonds were involved I think?) and I will be back to continue sampling my way around this massive menu. read more

Classic bean is such a special place in Topeka! They have a chill ambience that is perfect for getting work done or meeting with a friend! They have tables and comfy couches...the seating is a comfortable space away from others so you don't feel like others can hear your conversation! Their food is consistent and yummy! I grew up eating their delicious cinnamon scones heated up with butter and it has tasted the exact same for 15 years! The employees are kind and the food + drinks are made fast. I've been going to the Bean since my college days, and it hasn't changed much. I sometimes work from here if I'm in the area. Usually quiet and others are on laptops around you. I've been in once when an older crowd was there playing cards, and that got a little loud. Otherwise, still a great place to get some work done, maybe have a snack, and a good drink. read more

I wish it were just once or twice where I watched as my food sat in the window for 20 minutes waiting for it to be picked up by a waitress. There are also times when they don't keep to the posted hours. If you're looking for a recommendation, get the polar ice cap for a drink or the tortellini with Alfredo for a meal. read more

I like this location more than the one on Kansas Avenue specifically because of the service. The people here are so friendly and inviting. I love their soups and they made some great food here. We enjoy getting their sandwiches, specifically the Gershwin. That's my go-to. I like their coffee and they aren't overpriced. I would rather support this local establishment than big chain places. This place has a great atmosphere, friendly people and an accommodating staff. I have been going to a chess club on Saturdays and the food/drinks have been top notch each time. I haven't heard the live music before, just bad timing on my part, but I am looking forward to hearing it at some point. read more

I hear the coffee is legit (although as or more pricey than the 'bucks); I'm more about their wide selection of teas (many organic, which is nice). Sometimes the staff is friendly; I've had a few standoffish encounters, nothing too offensive (except the time they hassled me about my water bottle. Ugh.) A bit more food options than I am used to at a coffee shop, but I'll report that they even carry some gluten free options- last time I saw chocolate chip cookies and a flourless chocolate cake. I betcha they never anticipated a gluten free patron with a chocolate allergy, too.. That's ok! I only come here for live music on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

Poor thing couldn't handle it smh, and now I'm cranky and jittery because she gave me caffeinated espresso, neat. Also got a bowl of chili; was equal to a cup. I LOVE the Classic Bean. It's a Topeka classic and has been around forever. I've been going here since my high school days. It's a super chill place to get coffee, lunch, dinner - they serve really good food - and hang out. There are high tops, couches, love seats, regular tables so whatever kind of group you've got, they can accommodate. They've also got a private room for meetings. I've never had bad service here. They often have live music too. Their food is always good but if you're going to go, you HAVE to get a piece of the extreme chocolate cake. It is an absolute must. I always take time to make a trip here when I'm back in Topeka! Highly recommended! read more

The Classic Bean coffee shop in Fairlawn Plaza at 21st and Fairlawn has the best tasting chai tea blend around. I have tried them all over the place, and the Classic Bean's is by far the most rich and savory while maintaining an important subtlety in spice and sweetness. Listen to how tastily vague those descriptors are! Woohoo! For real, it's good... They also offer the blend frozen in what I think is called a Polar Ice Cap;it has a texture like none other around. I think it is gourmet ice or something - maybe they use Evian or Fiji or something!!! Please check it out and tell me if you agree. Also, on Friday nights (maybe Saturdays, too) the Classic Bean offers live music. Usually, the room is packed reasonably tight with a table or two open. On top of that, they display local paintings on their walls that are for sale. I bought one entitled "One Tough Old Tree" painted by Benita Essary. We had a nice talk when I went over to her house to pick it up. In her 80 or more years, she has been many places. Come socialize at the Classic Bean! My small REALTOR group meets there every week. We like this place. Lastly, anybody can even rent a meeting room there for $15 for the first hour and $10 per subsequent hour. I think it holds 15 people or so with a meeting table. See you there! The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. Plenty of seating and comfortable seats too. I ordered a Mocha Frappe and I would have to say it's the worst one I have ever had. I prefer when I order a blended drink that it's completely blended, but this one was not blended. The mocha was way too over powering too. Still a fan of Classic Bean after all these years. This past summer I needed a place to retreat to study for a major exam - and Classic Bean was perfect. A great mocha latte when I started mid-morning. Lunch of a Bach Bach with the pasta salad as a break. Then the house Paradise Tea with the mango bubbles (oh try it!) for the afternoon. Staff is friendly. Great to have a location to work solo or seeing the other groups come to play cards and visit! read more

I just moved to the area and visited Classic Bean for the first time today. I've been exploring the area and happened upon it while getting my car detailed next door. I remembered someone mentioning the name so I popped in to get some work done. The large space is a bit dark but cozy and inviting. I was happy to see some surprises on the menu - like Thai tea. Who knew Topeka had a decent live acoustic music venue for folks on the wild side of the music? You know, banjos, fiddles, acoustic guitars, mandolins, etc. Well, the Classic Bean has been serving up a regular menu of this kind of entertainment for years, and the food and drinks (coffee/beers) are decent to boot. Tucked away in a funky looking 70-80s suburban strip mall, the exterior and surrounding businesses do not inspire confidence. Don't let that stop you. This is a pretty darn cool little place and there's even a bit of outdoor seating if you prefer that to the music inside. The Bean as well call it is a real bright spot for acoustic music in an otherwise dreary town (my opinion). Oh, and they pay their musicians fairly, a real rarity in today's political and economic climate. I'm a Bean fan for sure. Yea, I only go for the music (usually I'm playing) but it's easy to see why this place is a magnet for a lot of people hanging out on the weekends. read more

This is a favorite local coffee house, cafe and deli in Topeka for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee break or late night. Breakfast includes sandwich wraps served with fruit. For lunch or dinner there is a large selection of sandwiches, soups and salads. There are also scones, cookies, brownies, cakes and baked goods for anytime during the day. Beverages include coffee, tea, served either hot, iced or blended, soda, fruit beverages and bottled water. The food choices are made fresh, so you might have to wait a little bit to be served, especially if you arrive after 11:30 am for lunch or after 5:30 pm for dinner, but the wait won't be long. There is also full bar service. The restaurant is large with plenty of areas for private gathering. You will find people reading, working on computers, meetings, bridge groups, or just relaxing. The servers are very welcoming. The restrooms are clean. There is also a small meeting room separate from the main dining room for privacy. A small fee is charged for use of the meeting room. I've come here a number of times now and really like it. Good selection of coffees and food. It seems pretty pricey, but I'm willing to pay that for a good local coffee shop. No matter when I come in, the tables are always pretty full. So I guess others like this place too :) staff is always cool too. My real only complaint is that it can take a long while to get my drink sometimes. Usually, it's not too bad. But there have been times (even when nobody else is in line before me) that it can take close to ten minutes to get my drink. All in all though, this place is really good. We stayed in Topeka for a night and wanted to check out a local coffee joint before leaving town. So glad we ended up here. The barista (wish I could remember her name!) was very friendly and sweet and we chatted for a bit while she whipped up our drinks. As for the beverages, we got a mocha (me) and a breve (mom) and both were good. It's hard to come by a good breve and my mom really enjoyed hers. My mocha was tasty and not overly sweet as coffee chains tend to be. We didn't get anything to eat but the pastries sure looked good. Seating was plentiful and it looked like a stage for music performers on the evenings/weekends. Didn't seem like you'd have to fight to get a seat unless you were there while there was live entertainment. All in all, a solid coffee shop, especially for a place like Topeka (no offense, Topekans!). I'd come back if I come this way again. read more

My wife came back to me looking frustrated. She told me that the man behind the counter was continuously wiping sweat from his head. So I've been coming here since I was a child but this last experience was definitely review worthy. We ordered our food at 8:15 and waited 25 minutes to get a sandwich. We paid $23 for a pretty decent looking salad, but a really kind of sad sandwich. I'm usually the kind of person to say fuck big corporations, support local, but in this situation Panera would have been a way better experience. The band they had playing was way too loud. Lattes usually taste fine. Lots of seating options, but the electrical sockets are loose, wiggly, and scarce. Like someone didn't finish building the place. Also, the wifi cuts out all the time. I've complained numerous times with no change. I've stopped going there. So if you're a student who wants to do homework while drinking a coffee, you have better options. I love this place. Every time I come visit the folks, they know there are multiple visits to TCB. The drinks are great with solid pulls. The atmosphere is relaxed, chill, and the perfect space for firing up my Mac and building dissertation pages. If you're cooler, and smarter, than me and don't have a godforsaken dissertation to write, you can enjoy any of the games, magazines, books they have available, or just chill out, listen to good music, and make good conversation with your partner. I gotta say very piss poor customer service i ordered a sandwich and there was hardly any meat on it i told the girl at the register and she said there portioned well the person weighing the portion needs to learn how to use it. As well as the girl didnt even seem concerned she couldve at least say can i offer you something else also i paid 7.99 for pretty much bread thats the most expensive piece of bread i have ever had. I am a former loyal customer. That is no longer the case because I recently realized how little regard or respect the ownership has for customer loyalty. I gave feedback on the their punchcard and explained that most businesses are willing to combine multiple cards when people forget theirs. This resulted in the woman basically questioning me and why I forgot my card in the first place. I felt as though I was being attacked and definitely did not feel like she appreciated my previous 15+ years of loyalty. The issue was not combining punchcards- it was how I was treated by a small business owner who should be glad she has loyal advocates for her coffee shop. I will not be returning and will not be giving their gift cards as stocking stuffers for family members in the future. They have lost my business. read more
