Dave's Custom Body Shop

Dave's Custom Body Shop

I stumbled upon Dave's Custom Auto quite by accident. That could be a slogan line for the business…read more Three years ago I was new to the area and purchased a vehicle with a blemished bumper. In running errands I saw Dave's shop, lucky me and now lucky you. As his business name indicates, the job is custom to your desires. If you want high end perfection Dave can do it and his price will reflect it. If you just want it to look good for a couple of years he will do it and the price will be lower. Dave does the spectrum of body work from high end perfection to "keep the price low and just make it look good." Dave works by appointment. Call him and leave a message and he will call you back. He can use this business model because his ability and quality has earned him the luxury to work around his moderate family life. I respect that, and if you buy in to this kind of quality talent you will also. I have spent 25 career years sending millions of dollars on my client's behalf through many body shops in the southeast states. In this effort I have seen many successes and many busts. I have sought Dave's services on two other occasions and Dave has done what he said he would do and then some. There has been no price surprises using the "well once we got into it......." He is honest, he is quality and he is what the name says, DAVE'S CUSTOM AUTO. Going forward, I will not use or recommend any other auto body technician other than Dave unless he is not comfortable with the project or he cannot get to the job in a timely manner because of commitments to others. And he is man enough to admit both.

Dropped my new Mustang off to get the underside of a custom hood painted. The actual paint job was…read moredone very well. But, they put on a lot of miles on my 1,000hp race car while they had it in the shop (fun fact: I gave them the valet key and they still had a grand old time apparently). They returned the car to me with gravel pockmarks in the rear fenders, damaged the topside paint when reinstalling the hood, and there was a noticeable door ding on the passenger side door. The owner was nice enough to me in person and charged me less than he originally quoted for the hood work. I did not complain to him about all the miles and the additional damage to the car. Instead, I packed the car up and shipped it cross country to my shop to have all the work redone and repaired. I was not about to leave a protoype $150,000 sports car in their custodianship any longer. Moral of the story is this: If you have a nice car, check your odometer. These people will abuse your vehicle, damage it, and pray you don't notice. I noticed immediately, but I have more important things to do than to squabble over $300. In short, as a "car guy," they violated the biggest rule in the book: You don't abuse someone's car. I can see maybe 0.1 miles added to the odo from moving it around the shop... but you don't need to test drive a paint job (especially when the hood was already prefit, all they had to do was bolt it back in place and the hood adjustments were already set in the front fascia... no need to test aerodynamics or anything). I really don't like talking bad about shops... but just know that I know what you did to my car. Considering I and my guys did all the fixing back in Charleston, I'm really not out much other than materials and time. I just know that I spoke to their owner in person and said, "This is a very powerful car, do not drive it." And he lied to me and violated that trust.

Beware of old man skipper. Left car for a week to get fixed and he told me it was done, and when I…read moregot there it wasn't even touched. There is a part of me that feels bad for the old man as he clearly has lost his mind but wish I knew before i wasted my time
