Jeremiah came on Saturday to clear a backed-up sewage line in my 70-year-old house. Snaking was attempted but did not work. I was charged only for the weekend call but not for snaking. Jeremiah returned on Monday with Cedric and cleared the line using water jetting. The work was completed in 1.5 hours, including post-work cleaning. They did not have to but still honored Yelp coupon for water jetting, which resulted in significant savings. Cedric took time to show using an in-line camera the precarious state of the heavily corroded cast-iron piping, explain and price the options for the pipe repair/replacement, and patiently answer my questions. At no point there were any surprise or unfair charges. I used their services in October of 2021 to clear the sewage line. I had another drainage problem this August. Technician ran the camera through the line and showed me a few roots also a few cracks on the line. To clear the line he would charge me $289. I requested I would like a permanent solution. He suggested I should have him clear the line from roots meanwhile. He also informed me that there was no job warranty on clearing the roots. He charged me $2000 promising if I accept their offer for replacing the lines he would use the $2000 towards the job. The whole clearing the job took less than 90 minutes. He got the money and left. That was August 11th. I was supposed to be contacted within 2-3 days about the estimate. Today is September 15th. I never heard from the company about the estimate. This is being dishonest read more

I recently learned that my kitchen and laundry pipes somehow intersect with the bathtub in the main bathroom. How? It all started with being a complete overachiever on a day when I had nothing else going on. I ran loads of laundry, cooked and washed up excessively, cleaned the bathroom and kept going until I returned to the bathroom to see my bathtub filling up with gray water - lots of it. However, thankfully, while it DIDN'T stink (thanks to my general rule of thumb with making sure any food refuse went into the trash before entering the sink for a pre-rinse), it still triggered quite an amount of anxiety. For some, it's the sight of blood that stopped their pursuit of the medical field. For some, it's the thought of math that prevents them from considering the science and finance fields. For me, it's looking at any form of sewage REGARDLESS of smell that I knew I'd always pay a shiny penny to have good plumbers in my network. I don't care how clean the gray water is...I will never have the stomach for it and will quickly develop the worst gag reflex known to humankind. Fast forward to After Hour Plumbing and Drain (after trying repeatedly to no success in emptying my new unwanted home reservoir): I had called just about every plumber in the area and NO ONE was available for up to a couple days. Panic mode was about to set in when After Hour Plumbing returned my missed call. At the end of the other line was a sweet feminine voice that chirped the words I really NEEDED to hear. "I'm sorry I missed your call, is there something we could do for you?" YES. SAVE MY FREAKING LIFE and return my sanity too. I explained what has happened and they immediately told me that despite being booked up for regular hours, they could still get someone to me by the end of day at a slightly premium price OR be willing to wait until the next regular price point. Do you want to guess my answer? It's pretty obvious. --------------- Long story short, I already knew it would be an easy job with the right equipment. I didn't have that equipment and when I realized how far the hard blockage was from the kitchen sink (25 feet+) after I heard that snake THUD hard enough to shake the floors, I knew there was nothing I could do even if I tried. We used this company a few times before and with 5-star results. I don't like writing poor reviews and tried to get a reply from the owner since March through the office manager (who has always been kind and responsive). We had a water leak (the water bill was creeping up higher and higher each month), and they were kind enough to refer a leak detection company. Once the leak was found, on our side of the meter, I set up an appointment. The technician showed up on time and estimated about 2 - 3 hours for the repair. Up to that point, everything was going well. After 3 hours, the technician came to the door with a part in his hand and said that he knows what the problem is, had cut out/removed the part, and would go back to the office to see if they had a replacement. After the fact, I checked with two other plumbing companies who said they would never have removed a part, even if it was leaking, without knowing they had a replacement. After almost an hour, he didn't come back, so since it was a few minutes to 5 PM (when the office closes), I called, and they let me know that they had a similar issue with a homeowner, and that part was super hard to find. They had called around and could not find it and....sorry. They said they couldn't do anything for me. I had a hole out by the sidewalk dug out with no connection to the water main and no solution. They didn't offer to hook up a temporary fix (which I found out later is possible), and they didn't try to order the part (I found what was needed online but with a 2-week wait) and come back to repair it. They did recommend Roto-Rooter and they came out, couldn't believe we were left in that situation, but made the repair (not using a similar part that was cut out but a workaround that worked well). Of course, emergency service cost a lot of money ($1600) for a repair that had been estimated originally closer to $800 - $900, parts included. After that initial follow-up phone call in late February, I did email After Hours several times, saying I didn't want to write a bad review and just wanted an explanation for what happened but was told the owner was out of town and would get back to me when he could. Now, almost four months after the incident, I am writing this review. Again, they did a great job before, but cutting out a part without knowing there was a replacement and leaving us with no water to the house and no solution miffed the other two plumbers I contacted. My sewer line was clogged. It was late afternoon. After Hour was the only plumber that picked up. Asked for a price. They said they do not give a price until he comes out. When they came, the guy said immediately, 250 bucks for a simple routine Roto Rooter type clean out, no scope, no other jobs with left over time. Why couldn't they have told me that on the phone? He had done nothing before he gave the quote. Felt ripped off but by that time it was almost five and no call backs from others, and I was desperate. It took ten minutes max from start to finish to clear the drain. Ridiculously expensive for a quick and simple job. He didn't even clean up the sewage that had come out of the overflow tube. I would especially like to point out their wonderful employee Sam Rivera. He really went above and beyond helping me with this last job. In a failed DIY project, I broke the cartridge to the shower valve. Sam had to do a lot of sleuthing to track down a compatible cartridge and in doing so saved me a lot of money since the alternative would have been to replace the entire valve. I double checked everything with Cedric at the office 2 hours before the appointment. I was at work with the credit card. My husband would meet the guy at the house and they would email me the bill. Easy peasy...right? Jeremiah arrived and as my husband was about to sign the digital invoice, he said he needed to be paid before he left today. My husband told him that wasn't what I had arranged with the office. Husband called me, I talked to Jeremiah, and then Taylor at their office and texted with Cedric (all while I was supposed to be working). It seemed that all was resolved. Jeremiah said it wouldn't take long to fix and said was going to the truck to get his snake. When he didn't come back for a while, my husband went out front...guy was on the phone. My husband asked him if everything was ok. Jeremiah said "oh yeah, I'm just using the phone." Then a little while later, he just drove away. Then the lies began. Taylor said that my husband had refused to sign the invoice and that's why Jeremiah left. This is 100% not true! Cedric cited "red flags" and "safety concerns" as to why Jeremiah took off...what?? The only "red flag" was that the pre-arranged billing by email was never communicated to the plumber. The staff at After Hours Plumbing are unfamiliar with their own policies and would rather concoct lies than be held accountable for their mistakes. Long overdue. Cedric and his crew have been amazing. I've had so many sewer blockage issues in the last year that it was just silly to not do some major sewer pipe replacing. Then Cedric comes along and says there is this newer technology that allows lining of old pipes so that we wouldn't have to replace them. So he showed me some stuff and explained how it works. We ended up lining 70-ish feet of our sewer pipes and ended up not having to tear out our driveway and the asphalt road just to replace our pipes and not have blockages every two months. He was a life saver. From start to end, he and his crew did a wonderful job. They were respectful and clean and left the place spotless. We haven't had any issues for months and months now. We had a leaking shower head and corroded fixtures that were installed incorrectly several years ago. I called Thurs afternoon. Tyler arrived Fri am on time and provided a flat rate estimate for the work that needed to be done which included cutting into the shower panel to get the work done. I scheduled an appt for Mon and again he arrived right on time. He got right to work and not only replaced the valve and fixtures, he also fixed another issue that reared it's ugly head while he was here. Hence, preventing more problems down the road. My husband and I who have a home in Carmel Valley, found out we had a water leak somewhere between the water meter and the house, somewhere under the ground. We called a local plumber to first locate the leak, and then give us an estimate for the cost of repair. Because it was underground, and the property is big, we OK'd the initial plumbing company spending $620, to make an intelligent guess as to where it was, but with no success. They then said it could cost up to almost $10,000.00 to find it and fix it. We declined that estimate to go a different route. We found out that there is a local company, called Leak Detection Specialist, who has specialized equipment which locates the source of leaks under the ground in a very fast and efficient way. They located it the same day they came out,, and put a stake in the ground to mark the exact spot from where it originated. Because the company who found the leak does not do plumbing, we contacted a plumbing service, "After Hours Plumbing and Drain", who came the next day. They dug down 2 feet, saw the leak, and gave us an estimate for the repair which was significantly less than the estimate we got from the first company. We OK'd that estimate and it was repaired the next day. My husband and I felt very lucky to have discovered "After Hours Plumbing and Drain", and "Leak Detection Specialist". and recommend both of them to find and fix water leaks in Monterey County. read more

We used After Hour Plumbing and Drain to repair a leaking pipe. Cedric the owner came by and said the job would take half a day. He and another worker came on a Tuesday to replace the cold and hot water pipe. This ended up taking them 9 hours. When he gave us a verbal bill, Cedric said the total was $5400.00. We were blown away at this extremely high price. When I asked for a bill showing what we paid for he said he would send me an email stating what they did. I sent another email and asked for an itemized breakdown of what we paid for. $393.00 for Parts and $5007.00 in labor. They were working on our building for a total of 8 hours and an extra hour to drive across town to buy parts. So a total of 9 hours labor at $5007.00 equals to $535.00 per hour. Per hour!!! I have never had a plumber charge me anything near this insanely high hourly cost. I have emailed several times asking for details on how much they charge per hour. Nobody will return my emails. I asked if they perhaps have made a mistake. I have given them plenty of opportunity to make this right. No response from them:( Please ask for all information of costs up front if you use this company. We feel completely ripped off. We will never use them again. Beware!!!! read more

We called After Hour because our disposal was backing up into the dishwasher and sink. We paid $720 for a new disposal (did we really need a new one?), flange replacement and to snake dishwasher line. We trusted that the problem would be solved and went with their recommendations. We are very careful not to put anything down the sink that would clog it, but it backed up again just a couple of weeks later, and we were charged another $200 for repeat snaking. Now, just four months down the road, the disposal is again backing up into the dishwasher and sink. Water is flowing under the floorboards. They won't stand by the work we initially hired them to do and are asking for more money. It's hard to trust this company, so we won't call them again. read more

Do NOT use this company - I would give them zero stars if I could. My hot water system died 2 weeks ago. I called After Hour Plumbing and they sent a "supervisor" to my home. After inspecting our system, the guy did not even know what type of hot water system we have. It is electric, but he asked me several times if it was gas or a hybrid. He told me they would order the part and call me back. After several days and no call back, I called the company and they said they had called Rheem and ordered the replacement heating element. That was 2 WEEKS AGO today and still no part. They stated they will only use Rheem parts (although replacement elements are standard) and that Rheem sent the part by Fed Ex but they are unable to provide a tracking number. This is completely unacceptable. I have been without hot water at my home for 2 weeks because this plumber is COMPLETELY incompetent. My mistake for trusting them - never again.
