lamb shawarma and hummus aka perfection!
    Yasmine E.

Since moving to Portland, I've been on a quiet mission to find shawarma that actually tastes like something. I'm Arab, and a bit of a shawarma snob, so it's been... underwhelming. Until now. Classic Shawarma nailed it. The lamb was tender, well-seasoned, and wrapped in warm, slightly blistered flatbread that held it all together without getting soggy. Inside--bright, crunchy pickles that brought just the right amount of tang. It's a small detail, but when it's wrong, it throws the whole thing off. These were perfect. The hummus? Creamy, rich, and garlicky, with that little swirl of olive oil, a dusting of sumac, and fresh mint on top. No shortcuts, no filler--just real flavor. And then there's Allan. We got to chatting, and it's clear this isn't just food for him. He's in it. Every plate coming out of that kitchen feels personal, like he's cooking from memory, not a recipe. Made fresh, made with love, made with pride. If you've been wandering around Portland looking for flavor that lands--start here.

    Lamb shawarma combo

10 stars if possible. The best shawarma in the area. Was not expecting a food truck but don't let looks deceive you. This place is legit! So delicious fresh and authentic. Highly recommended

Food was delicious , and very authentic had to try one of everything! Staff is very friendly

    Beef shawarma

Hands down the BEST shawarma in town! I grew up in a place where there were tons of Lebanese people with amazing shawarmas and I've been on the hunt for shawarmas similar to it. Finally found it!! Don't walk, run!!! I get lamb or beef Shawarma and it's so so good!

Food was great! Not overly saucy like other places. Owned and operated by an actual middle eastern makes for better middle eastern food! Owner is very nice. Easy to access location with plenty of parking. Shaded area to wait. Highly recommend! Best shawarma I've had in Portland!

Literally the best chicken shawarma I've ever had! It's much larger than most. The owner also gave me some dipping sauces upon request.

The seasoning was unlike other shawarma places I've been- the cinnamon playing a harmonious role with the other seasonings.

I came in with friends who are vegan and gluten-free, and before we even had to ask, the staff marked up our menus with everything they could eat. Not just a couple sad options either. A ton of them. This kind of consideration is something I've noticed across Portland, and it's a big part of why I love visiting. Food-wise, we had some real standouts. The roasted carrots were deeply flavorful, the curried black lentil salad had that perfect balance of hearty and bright, and the tahini ice cream was one of those desserts you keep thinking about after the trip ends. Also, do not skip the beer with a slushy float. It sounds chaotic, but somehow it works. Fun, refreshing, a little unexpected. Come hungry, especially if you're dining with mixed dietary needs. Everyone will leave happy

The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming, and the staff were genuinely helpful and welcoming. Every plate we tried delivered. The pita alone deserves a shoutout, fresh, warm, and dangerously easy to keep eating. Standout dishes: Hummus & Spicy Lamb Merguez Gravlax Lamb Carnitas Street parking wasn't too bad, which is always a win in SE. Honestly, I'd come back for the atmosphere as much as the food. Couldn't recommend it more. Go. No need to thank me later.

Nicholas Restaurant has a really cute, welcoming vibe, with outdoor tables and plenty of seating inside. They have a great selection of drinks, and I decided to try the house Arnold Palmer--made with fresh lemonade and cinnamon mint iced tea. It was unique and really refreshing. We started with a few appetizers for the table: hummus, tzatziki, and falafel balls. Everything came out quickly and was a hit. The hummus tasted incredibly fresh, the tzatziki had a nice tangy kick, and the falafel balls were perfectly crispy and flavorful. For my main, I ordered the chicken breast kabob plate, which came with two skewers, rice, tzatziki, and garlic sauce. The chicken was incredibly tender and cooked just right. Overall, a great meal with fresh, flavorful food and a relaxed atmosphere. I can definitely see why my family keeps coming back--this spot is well worth a visit.

We opted for the chef's tasting menu, and it did not disappoint, each dish built on the last and made the whole meal feel special. We especially loved the char that some of the dishes had, the italian soda served with a glass, and the ice cream were such nice touches. What really stood out, though, was the service and attention to detail. Everything felt seamless and intentional. Our server, Madison L, was fantastic! Enthusiastic, engaged, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great time. She elevated the entire experience and made the night feel memorable. My husband & I, my sister and my son all went for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but we were all pleasantly surprised. Everybody but me got the spiced lamb souvlai, which was ground meat on a skewer. I tried the oregano chicken. Mine was tender, flavorful grilled chicken. I loved it! I have always thought of souvlaki as a Greek version of a gyro-meat in a pita wrap with sauce & veggies. Not here. You get the meat and a pickled vegetable and that's it. That's why you need some sides and bread. The bread is better than a lot of pita I've had. We also got an order of hummas (some of the best I've had anywhere. Maybe it's because they put a dab of zhoug-a mixture of herbs & spices packed with flavor. It was as smooth as silk), as well as beet salad. It had quinoa that seemed to have been fried because it had a slight crunch which I loved. It was the perfect foil for the golden beets and radish in the salad. We ordered just the right amount of food for the 4 of us (one piece of pita each, one salad, one hummus and an order each of souvlaki). I noticed some vegetarian options on the menu as well. We all agreed we want to come back and bring the spouses who couldn't make it. Looks like I forgot to take pics of the meat. You'll just have to be surprised!

I loved the wood fire as it kept us warm. As for the food it was not bad but not good either. The wedge salad is one of my favorite salads but the Bluto Wedge has a lot going on. Too many rich flavors, to the point of too much. It tasted like horseradish, with dill, and bacon grease. I personally love the taste of salad so don't need mine drenched in dressing like this one was. The Greek fries were cooked well but again too salty and over seasoned. The best part of the meal was the pita bread, it was cooked perfectly!
