Wishing I lived in Portland! We were in town visiting family and friends and stopped at the food trucks on a lark. I love a good gyro but I'm usually disappointed. Nevertheless, I gave it a shot and I'm so glad I did! There's a place in my hometown that serves as my benchmark for quality and quantity for the past 30 years. Gyro Kingdom gives them a run for their money and might be coming out on top. The only one I've had that was better was in Athens! The gyro was huge. I had trouble eating it without making a mess and took to fork and knife. The meat was delicious. I think that many, if not most, of these places buy the meat wholesale. Whether they do or not, Gyro Kingdom adds some extra seasoning that makes the meat sing. Rather than the subtle (but good) seasoning of gyro meat, they had bolder more pronounced flavors. Lastly, the sauces. I'm usually a straight tzatziki guy but I asked for the others on the side. I loved the spicy sauce especially. Get all three and work them together. My only complaint? It seemed slow. There were three guys in the truck, I was the only customer, and it seemed to take forever. Not as long as one of the other trucks where my wife was getting food, though. As long as the weather's nice, which it was, it's worth the weight. Or I guess you can call ahead.
It's a food cart and that doesn't mean it's bad, I for my self like to know before I'll go and expect a restaurant. But there are plenty of seats under a roof. The service is rough on the edges but still very friendly and try to accommodate your wishes. I'll don't like pita much so he gave me a combo gyro in a wrap. That wrap was longer as my arm and well filled with delicious lamb and chicken meat (hence combo). The garlic aioli and the tzatziki was excellent. It's a lot of food and I will not complain. In the beginning I thought $17 is expansive for Portland. But not when you finally get the food! Since it's so much you will not leave hungry. So I for sure will coming back and also good to know is that they have open late - next time I'll have to try their falafel.
This place is really good! The service is great and the food is delicious! The beef arabi is 9 out of 10. The orange sauce with this Arabi is amazing! Give this truck a try!
Tasty food at Gyro Kingdom, located at the Barley Pod Food Court on Halsey and NE 60th. We ordered the lamb gyro, a Greek salad, and a side of tabbouleh. The gyro was quite large and like others have pointed out not the kind of item you'd want to carry around while eating. Generous salad and nicely seasoned tabbouleh. More food than we'd expected given our experiences at other food carts offering the same menu items. Friendly and cordial service. Looking forward to trying more of their Syrian take on what we ordinarily think of as Greek food.
My favorite food cart in the Barley Pod was closed during our visit, so I pivoted to something else, and decided to try out Gyro Kingdom. Who doesn't love Mediterranean food, right? My wife and I both ordered the lamb gyro, and let it be clearly known that these are definitely not portable portions: they're massive, saucy and sloppy, but in a good way. Definitely fork-and-knife cuisine. The pita is nice and fresh, a little chewy, making it a challenge to slice through with plastic cutlery. The inclusion of a straight-up pickle, instead of regular cucumber, is an interesting choice, and definitely makes this gyro stand out among others that I've sampled at other locations; YMMV on whether or not this modification will fit your individual tastes - I liked it, anyway. Also sampled the sides of garlic (kinda bland and flavorless) and spicy sauces (peppery, savory, pretty good), but neither are required to enjoy the entrée. Overall, a pretty solid gyro; not my favorite, but still a solid (and sizeable) sandwich, with plenty of bang for your buck.

My gyro was enough for two meals, and, happily, the leftovers reheated beautifully. The gyro was huge, and just what I was hoping for in terms of flavor. There were 3 sauce options, hot, garlic, and tzatziki. I declined the hot sauce, and found plenty of enjoyment in the other two condiments. This will be a hard item to pass up on my next visit to this pod.
I was recommended this place by a stranger I trust who swore that this was her favorite food. Did we drive halfway across Portland to get it? Yes. Did I almost miss my flight to get this? Also yes. Was it worth it? Also yes. At first, after ordering, I was wondering why I didn't just try a bite and order something else as my dish from one of the many other food carts. In fact, I was kicking myself over it. However, once I took a bite I was very happy with the choice made. This honestly might be one of my favorite food dishes that I've had. It is a good sized meal that is packed with flavor. Sometimes a wrap like this can be too dry, sometimes too soggy. This was perfectly blended with sauces. A nice kick, but also a cooling sensation in every bite. The meat was great. The bread was soooooo good, toasted perfectly. Every bite just came together with perfection. Another key point is that the way it was wrapped made it manageable to bite into while also holding it together (often a big problem with gyros - they can fall apart too easily). All in all, would definitely recommend this to anyone who lives in Portland or is visiting the Portland area. They need to franchise this and pop them up in every city across the country. By the end of it, I decided I'd be willing to drive all the way across Portland for it, not just halfway.
This is one truck in the parking lot of Flip side bar. The guy taking the orders was really nice. The gyro salad was very solid. Great tasting gyro. you can order your food and then go eat inside the bar or on tables outside. There's a wide selection of trucks out in the parking lot. read more

Stopped in this pod that was nearby at the time for lunch. Decided this looked good and I wasn't wrong. Super loaded and really fresh veg. Reasonable prices for the quantity and quality. Friendly and quick service. read more

Where this Gyro place is located is in a little parking lot area with a bunch of other native cuisines as well. First off the two men that were working were very nice & they were able to help us pick out our dishes because there were so many to choose from. The service was impeccable. Our dishes were very good and the flavor was on point for sure. read more

I got the #14 and it was absolutely fire, finished it in 5 minutes. Everything from taste, sauces, portions, customer service, and timeliness. I'm in love with this place it did its big one in my book. Please come and eat here and support them cause their food is absolutely FIRE read more

This place is the bees knees definitely come here if you are craving Greek food. It's in a "food truck neighborhood" called the village, with an array of all sorts of different food trucks. I had the three meat wrap; the meat was tender it melted in your mouth. I also ordered the baklava and all I can say is yum all the layers filled with chopped nuts, and honey. Everything I've had here was very good. They are also generous with the portions. The owner is very accommodating, and he will take her to your needs. Today I had the chicken shawarma wrap which is one of those things that I will be thinking about for days... I've also had hummus with meat here, and again the portions were generous with lots of meat. This place is also open late until 1:00 a.m. in the morning. read more
I like Mediterranean, I usually order Gyro, because I like the photo. This one is about 12" long, it's HOT, it's tasty, but it didn't have that appeal, like in the photo. They have chopped pickles, very little greens and onions, or tomatoes. WHERE'S the color of fresh vegetables? It just looks blah! When I order something, it has to look appealing, and like the PHOTO. I like the fact, that they're fast, the food is hot (we drove home to eat on our porch). They're delicious, it just needs more color, please! read more

The food carts near our place changed out the gyro food cart and so we thought to give this new place a try. What We Had: - Hummus with Pita - 2 lamb gyros Pros: - Hummus and Pita was better than the previous place Cons: - Lamb gyro was very soupy and required a fork to eat most of it. Overall: The previous place while taking a lot longer to prepare was far better in quality. This place has nice staff but the food quality is not something we enjoyed read more

I have no idea why this place is not getting more attention or higher ratings. Please go visit this truck if you are looking for something Halal, delicious, yummy and worth your money. My husband and I ordered number: 7, 9, and 13. شاورما لحم عربي، شاورما دجاج عربي، و صحن فلافل We order them as the Arabi shawarma as it comes in the Middle East, just ask to make your order with everything Arabi style. We instantly fall in love with uncle Mahmoud's food and sauce, الثوميه و الحراق درجه اولى. The service is amazing and uncle Mahmoud was super respectful. He only have one person around sometimes to help, and he makes everything as you order, nothings is preheated. The lot for the food trucks has other options around as well, some are Halal. And it has a small area with over head heaters. If you get cold quickly, bundle up! The food quantity is really filling and more than enough. The quality is fabulous, clean, and as you expect and more! So delicious, absolutely coming back again, and will let my friends who are in the area or visiting know about it. read more
We don't frequent food trucks in Portland but we were in need of something quick and good for on the go. We settled on this spot as it was around the area we were going to be and had Halal meat. I tried the Lamb Arabi and it was like a pocket of goodness. The meat was a bit on the salty side but not too overpowering to the rest of the meal. The garlic feta sauce that came with it was good but I would've like more garlic flavor. Overall not bad for first try. read more

I've grown to love this little corner of yummy food, all the carts here at the Yard have appeal. I loved the falafel I ordered here, was fast and quality was high. The price was food cart average, ya expect to pay $15-20 here in Portland. Dog friendly but parking is a bit of a struggle. read more

Really wanted to like this but when I got it home it was full of shredded white and yellow cheese. If I wanted a sloppy burrito I would have gone to a different food cart. If it said Mexican cheese I would have ask for it to not be included. read more
