Best gyro that I would say is in the top three meals I've ever eaten. I've had it about six or seven times and unbelievable everytime.

Hidden gym in Portland. The pod is a bit hard to find and easy to miss unless you live in the area. There's no parking so prepare yourself for a bit of walking. Lamb gyro over rice: 5/5, one of the best lamb I've ever had. It isn't stinky or moist, the flavor is in every bite and delicious. I only wished there were more lamb in our rice plate. Service was really fast, we got our food within 3 minutes and it's located in one of the photo friendly pods, lots and lots of seating as well.

Lamb gyro. The lamb isn't just placed on top- it's generously spread throughout!

If you like lamb, get the lamb gyro!!! We ordered pickup through ubereats and it was ready within 10 minutes! We ordered a lamb gyro and a ta'amiya sandwich (falafel) The lamb gyro was bursting with fillings- juicy lamb, veggies, pickles, sauce. The pita was pillowy and springy- if I had the appetite I would've ordered some more just to eat on its own. The lamb gyro was so so good we wish we had gotten two! The ta'amiya sandwich came with 3 falafel which were crispy and crunchy on the outside! That was the best part for us as we found this sandwich didn't have as much flavor/texture as the lamb gyro did. The portions were very generous and we were extremely full afterwards and will be back for more!

I yelped "falafel" for Portland and this was #1! It did not disappoint! The falafel was amazing. I got the platter and it came with so many goodies. Dolma were a nice addition. I added some pita on the side. The hot sauce was also delicious. I will be back for sure.

Love this food cart pod and surprisingly never tried egyptian bros! We had people visiting from out of town and they were really craving a gyro so you know I had to go to Yelp to see what other people were recommending. Egyptian bros kept popping up and it's great they had later hours so you didn't feel rush to get to the pod. Since it's part of this food cart pod parking around the area can be sparse but you can get lucky and get a free parking spot. It was a cooler day so it wasn't too packed so we were able to get in line with only one group ahead. For ~$13 you can get yourself a packed, hot, and saucy gyro. I also got a side of their fries and would recommend since they are piping hot and plenty to share with a group. As for the gyro, I loved the warm pita that held everything together well. When you order they ask for the spice level and I like a medium level but I feel if you enjoy spicy you can go even higher. The meat is flavorful and comes in nice chunks to absorb the other sauces and pickles on top. You can easily finish one on your own but it's also a nice option to share if you want to try other things in the pod. Staff if friendly and you won't miss them calling out your name. They do charge a fee for card purchases so I would recommend paying with cash to avoid the fee.

I was underwhelmed by the Basbousa dessert, it was much dryer than what I normally enjoy. Nice guy tending the window.

OK onto the service and food. Food: awesome! I haven't been to Egypt in 20 years where I experienced the great and original Koshari in Cairo. I remember it being cheap good and greasy. This was not cheap (but it is a good value!!), it was very good, and not as greasy as I remember. But that's probably a good thing! Putting the extra lime vinegar sauce on it really helps and helps me dig into that flavor that I miss- of and the crispy friend onion!!. i've only had Koshari one other time in the United States and it was in NYC, so I really love being able to have this here. I brought a large group and our food took a little while because I didn't understand the ordering or I would've ordered in advance. once our long wait was over ( we had nine people) we devoured the food! Everybody loved it whether they had Koshari or the Mac. I will also note that the impossible Koshari was an especially good deal - only$2 to add a vegan burger to the top of the koshari! they ran out of some of the drinks that we ordered and replaced them with nicer drinks. The folks were excellent, kind, and really took care of us! glad i'm not too far away- i'll be back! also, i'm not a night owl but if you are ... this is your spot!

Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava.
