I called multiple times checking about them being able to accommodate dietary restrictions and I was informed which items they could personalize to meet those needs. I placed my order for pickup. I arrived at the scheduled time and my order was ready. The restaurant was clean and very inviting. I brought the food home, plated and eating. The pad Ginger Chicken had fresh crisp veggies and well prepared chicken - great. The Pad Se Ewe Noodle with beef was exceptional. The noodles were done perfectly and the beef was SO tender. The food is good... enough. I get the impression that it's been sitting for a while and warmed up once ordered (I feel this is typical). Chicken Pad Thai: Small portion for $15. The fact that it's $15 is beyond absurd. There were small pieces of chicken inside, I counted four. The size of the overall meal was about two fist-sized portions, again for $15. My wife liked the inside, said it was clean. It's in a good neighborhood and they placed the food in a to-go bag, rather than empty boxes most places give to you to reduce trash costs, so I'll give them that. I would like to go back, but to be honest, we're giving up on finding good local food. I love Classic Thai! They are our neighborhood Thai restaurant and I feel really fortunate that we live so near by. The owners and staff are absolutely lovely. 5 stars for service, 3 stars for food, so guess that averages four? Food comes out lickety split, almost too fast because our fresh rolls arrived with our entrees. The rolls were bland because they lacked basil or mint. For the entree I had a lemongrass chicken salad. I think I've figured out they get food out quickly. The chicken looks like it's sliced razor thin for a quick cook. Unfortunately it's a bit tough with that approach and I couldn't cut it with a fork, and no knives in the table so I used a spoon. Summary: great Thai food, but you may want to dial down the heat a bit. My daughter lives across the street from Classic Thai so we order carry out regularly when we are into town, including yesterday for lunch. Their online ordering works well 0- when you select a dish you are prompted to enter the desired protein, type of rice, etc. which then shows up in your cart. Lead times are quite short most of the time, 15-20 minutes. I had the green curry yesterday which I really love - lots of colorful eggplant in it. I also sampled the tofu pad Thai which was very good. Most of our dishes we requested a spice level of 1 - at most Thai places I am a 2-3, but at classic I find I have to dial it back a bit or I overheat. BTW, the portions are quite generous, we are having the leftovers for dinner tonight! This place is a great choice for carry out during the Covid pandemic. Just wish the spice level was a little more consistent, only reason I gave four instead of five stars. Sometimes I order medium and there is no spice and other times the spice is off the charts. But the pad se ewe is some of the best I've had in the city of Portland and the family that runs this place are very nice. One of our favorite Thai places! The food is fresh, delicious, good portions [we always have left overs] and always hot. We haven't dined in but all the take out experiences have been great, very sweet and friendly staff, the food is done quickly and great quality. It's was a cold, dark, rainy night and I was desperate for some spicy food. My meeting (via Zoom) ran late so I needed a place that was doing takeout until nine. Fortunately classic Thai cuisine fit the bill. I ordered via their website which was seamless and simple. I selected Pad Basil 'Kra-Pao & Tom Yum Goong Soup. Both absolutely perfect for a rainy night. They have plenty of safety precautions and since I was pre-paid I simply went in and picked up my food and left and took it home to enjoy a spectacular meal. Great food and it wasn't too spicy. I'm not a person who likes to stun my tastebuds into submission so I was a little concerned with level 3 out of 5. Turned out to be just fine for my eggplant dish. We keep coming back to Classic Thai every couple months. We always get Tom Ka Gai coconut soup with chicken, quite a delicious combination of mushrooms, chicken and onions in a mildly spicy broth. For the second dish, we go back and forth between Pad Mixed Vegetables and Green Curry, both with chicken. Classic Thai is in a strip mall with Plaid Pantry and a nail parlor, but once you step inside, you find the interior is attractive, with lots of plants, including bamboo, and nicely soft lighting. The booths are comfortably large, the atmosphere pleasant. They do a steady stream of take-out business. I've been a regular here for years. Ownership has recently changed hands but the menu and everything else remained the same, including the mediocre quality of the dishes. There is much too much sugar in their sauces. Overpriced entrees. Frozen egg rolls. Undercooked eggplant. Canned veggies. Chicken satay is like rubber. But it's close to my job and convenient, and still a healthier option than the burgers and pizza also nearby, as long as you know what to order and what to avoid after years of trial and error. I was willing to overlook the unimpressive dishes for the convenience factor, but the last 2 times I was there and placed an order to-go, instead of giving me my change back when I paid with cash, the owner/cashier put my change directly in her tip jar. I did not say "keep the change". Against my better judgment, since Covid, I have been tipping for orders to go, as a courtesy, but it should still be my decision, not the decision of the establishment. And that tip is usually a buck or two. Not $7 on a $13 order. I thought this might have been done in error the first time so I bit my tongue, but it happened again the last time I was there as well. It feels extremely manipulative and underhanded, and puts the customer in a position of looking cheap and making a scene, having to ask for change back. Won't be returning as a result. read more

The Pad Basil was excellent! My husband and I shared takeout during COVID and the woman behind the counter couldn't have been more pleasant. Spice level 3 left just the perfect tingle on our lips! Part Thai and was recently in Chiang Mai. Really critical since I can cook most of the food, but am lazy. Ate here a long time ago, and it was good. Recently ordered some papaya salad, kra pao, and fish cakes. Dishes were average to slightly below average. Ordered everything Thai spicy. Everything was mild and was given crushed red pepper. Was craving Thai and had seen photos of their food on Instagram before, so convinced family to give it a shot. It shared a parking lot with a gas station and yet sometimes the first glance seedy places end up being the best, so we continued on in. Inside we we were immediately greeted by friendly faces and welcomed into a cutely decorated place. They even brought a special built in straw cup for my toddler, and later provided her with a plastic plate and silverware as well! Always so sweet when you see them understand and accommodate the little ones. We ordered phad Thai, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, a curry noodle dish, phad see ewe, and every single dish was fantastic !!!! The phad Thai was absolutely incredible, exactly what I was craving and wanted it to be. Everything had such flavor and was amazing tasting. We all left extremely happy. The yellow curry is a bit watery for my liking and I was surprised that they don't carry Panang curry because that's my go-to order! The beef pad see ew could have used more butter because the noodles were mainly stuck together. Flavor was delicious but the noodles were a bit more dry than I prefer. This place is in the rotation. While we tend to get take out, dining in is always great as the folks that run the place are just delightful. Truly nice people you want to support. My fav is the massaman curry. Always consistent on flavor. Occasionally the potatoes and carrots are a tad undercooked but within the realm of being alright. They are all divine and the eggplant is always caramelized to perfection (which I don't always find to be true at other places in Portland).
