Crispy friend chicken, Delicious Dipping Sauce and naan.

Stopped for lunch recently. We were looking for BBQ chicken wings but the place down the street no longer served them. We walked down and ordered. Food was delivered quickly and the chicken was SO crispy. The dipping sauce was very good! Service was friendly and efficient. Sitting outside was nice-people watching and enjoying the nice weather.

Popped into Hat Yai this evening for the first time and very glad we did. The food was delicious and vibe was bustling. I'll start by saying this place is definitely not big so come with the expectation that you might have to wait for a table. There's only about 8-10 tables in the place and it's definitely geared towards smaller groups. Regardless we ordered at the front and then were able to find a seat. Wound up ordering the combo to try and get a taste of everything. The portions were solid and everything was super tasty. The chicken is perfectly breaded and delicious. It's a bit of a messy meal so just come with that in mind. Have a bunch of different options that also looked tasty. Will have to come back and try again. Service was fine. They were kind and cleared the table. Water is self serve at front of the restaurant and they clearly do a fair amount of takeout. Cool local spot to definitely check out.

I wasn't sure what to expect when my friends suggested Hat Yai for a meet-up, but I have to say I was impressed. I got the muu hong, which is pork belly and a fried egg over rice. It was very simple but done well. The pork had a strong cinnamon flavor, which was tasty and helped bring everything together. I will say that wished the pork was a little less dry, but it was still tasty and filling. I also got a hibiscus lime slushy, which was bright and refreshing. The slushy had more hibiscus flavor and wasn't too sweet. I think it was a good drink to pair with everything due to the lighter flavor. My friend got the Hat Yai Pineapple daiquiri, which she really enjoyed. I think that it was a bit on the sweeter side, and the pineapple came through well. Then the Hat Yai for 2 had a good portion size. The chicken was moist with a crispy outside. It paired well with the sticky rice, curry, and roti. Honestly, I think the seasoning on all the food was really good, and I appreciate the cinnamon flavor, which is something I'm not used to, but it adds a nice warmth to the dish. The staff were attentive when we were ordering and very friendly. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant was very cute. It's a bit small, but there is also outdoor seating for a nicer day. My friends and I were able to stay there for a long time, catching up over food, which we were able to share family style.

Came for lunch, Food was awesome. Good service. We got the curry for 4 and shared with the 3 of us, we were very full. No regrets. The chicken was so crispy!

So glad we found this place! Everything we ordered was amazing, but the Pad Thai wrapped in egg was definitely my favorite! The crab curry with roti, fried chicken, and pork rice bowl were all so flavorful too. The food was fresh, the service was great, and I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Portland. Highly recommend!

southern Thai spot - ordered the braised chicken thigh in curry with roti for a late lunch and I was so impressed with how good this meal was for the price! The curry was delicious and the chicken was tender and falling off the bone. I loved the roti it came with (seasoned and came out warm), great easy spot to eat at

Delicious! You'll want an extra side of curry it's so good. Hat Yai for 2 was plenty of food for me and a friend. Service was fast and our food came out quickly. Cute spot. If they remove the bus your own table policy outside I will update to 5 stars :)

I can't believe it took me so long to come here - this meal was INCREDIBLE. I love how straightforward the menu is - making it super easy to pick. I got their Hat Yai Iced Coffee - super cool flavors but they definitely are on the sweeter side, so you may need to ask for a heavier coffee pour if you need a caffeine boost. Since it was my first time here I decided to stick to what they're known for so I got their Fried Chicken Set. Every individual item on the plate was incredible and unique and then you start combining bites and your mind is blown even further.

We had a relatively easy walk-in experience for a group of 3 on a Sunday evening. The space is almost like a long hallway but very nicely arranged and decorated. You order up at the counter and the food came out pretty fast. The food is the perfect comfort meal especially on a cold and rainy day! We loved the curry and roti, often mixing it with other things we ordered. The roti was very soft snd flaky. The chicken was fried perfectly and so juicy inside. We probably should've gotten a whole chicken instead of half! The brisket curry had a decent spice levels, and the beef was quite tender. My friend visiting from out of town said they could definitely see themselves coming here weekly if they lived here!

Amazing! The chicken is perfectly crispy and the curry is deliciously unique. We will be back!

We shared the Hat Yai Combo for 2, and it was pretty tasty. It came with roti, sticky rice, chicken, and curry sauce which is the perfect comfort food. I wished the chicken was a bit juicier though, I found it to be a bit dry. If I lived in Portland, I could definitely see myself coming here often. Since we arrived right when they opened, service was quick, and there was ample seating available for dining in. Definitely recommend!

Another fantastic Thai option in Portland. Got the fried chicken for 2 along with the brisket curry. The chicken has an amazingly crunchy exterior with a sweet delicious sauce. The roti was crispy and paired with the house curry. The brisket was a bit tough but the green curry ut came with was delicious. Service was friendly and plenty of searing both inside and out.

Amazing food. I ordered the combo. Prefect amount of food. The chicken was crispy. The Roti was perfect for dipping in the curry.

Is the fried chicken spicy? Checking to see if my kids (7,2) can eat it.

Does anyone know what other items on their menu is gluten free?

Are there Gluten-free options? Didn't see anything in reviews or on menu.

They have sticky rice, but unsure if gluten is used in their fried chicken / curry / steak skewers.

Eem did NOT disappoint!! Such a fun, vibrant spot with a super chill vibe. Service was prompt,…read morefriendly, and welcoming throughout. We tried the Chopped BBQ Fried Rice, and the smokiness from the BBQ seriously AMPED up all the flavors. Such a great twist on fried rice and so satisfying. The White Curry w/ Brisket Burnt-ends: WOWIE. So much flavor! The sweetness and smokiness from the brisket worked beautifully with the curry, and the meat was wonderfully tender. I also loved the cauliflower in the curry, it added a nice bite and texture that balanced everything out. The Massaman Curry w/ Smoked Lamb Shoulder was delicious, hearty, and PACKED with flavor!!! The lamb was incredibly tender, and the potato soaked up the curry so well. Such a comforting and flavorful dish. Overall, the food did not disappoint at all. Eem has such a unique concept, bringing together bold Thai flavors with Texas-style BBQ, and somehow it works SO well. Definitely a memorable meal and a spot I'd happily come back to!

After days of working my way through Portland's wildly overhyped Thai food, I had begun to wonder…read moreif the problem was me. Maybe Thai food was simply better in Los Angeles. Then I walked into Eem, sat down, took a few bites, and realized the problem was, in fact, everyone else. Eem is a Thai and Texas-style barbecue mash-up that sounds slightly unhinged on paper and makes absolute, beautiful sense once it hits your mouth. This is the kind of fusion that doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels inevitable. I started with the Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken, one of their most popular dishes, and for good reason. Savory, beautifully fried, shatteringly crisp on the outside, juicy and tender within. Exactly what fried chicken should aspire to be. Then came the Wok-Fried Yu Choy. And dare I say it? The best vegetable dish I've ever had? Yes. I think I dare. Spectacular. Deep, smoky, savory, with enough personality to make you briefly question why you ever needed meat in the first place. But the Smoked Pork Krapow is where they really got me. Krapow is traditionally a dish built around seasoned ground beef, but Eem takes the idea somewhere else entirely, folding in pork belly burnt ends. It sounds like excess. It tastes like genius. Smoky, fatty, spicy, deeply aromatic. Completely blew me away. And then there's the room itself. Warm, colorful, playful, beautifully decorated without trying too hard. The service was just as good. Welcoming, attentive, confident, and Portland hospitable. They know exactly what they're doing. Eem didn't just redeem Portland Thai food for me. It reminded me why you venture out to eat in the first place: to discover something you didn't know you needed. So do yourself a favor. Go to Eem first. Before you start categorizing Portland restaurants as Thai or barbecue, before you begin comparing them to other Thai restaurants, before you get trapped in your own expectations. Just go. Because if "Keep Portland Weird" means anything anymore, surely it means putting Thai food and Texas barbecue together, making it work brilliantly, and serving it with a smirk. Thank you, Eem. You just gave me another very good reason to come back to this weird, wonderful town.
