I had their sailors pad Thai and it was pretty tasty! The portion size was really great and I really appreciated the different and unique way that they made the pad Thai. It had peppers and etc. in it, and it was very light and not too oily and very filling, which I really appreciated! I was soooo hungry, pics are NOT the best bc I had already started eating. The basil chow mein was the absolute best thing I tried, and I forgot to take a picture of it! The crab wontons were perfect. Just the right amount of filling, fried to perfection, and delicious sauce. The chicken satay was also fantastic. Not thick, chunky chicken, but thinly sliced pieces grilled perfectly. The pad Thai was not my favorite. It wasn't spicy at all, and the sauce was sweeter than I'm used to. I grew up coming here Sundays after church but just visited after 13 years. It feels like nostalgia being back. We enjoyed satay, spicy pad thai, regular pad Thai, and the special curry fried rice. The satay could've been bigger, the chicken was small. The spicy pad Thai was definitely spicy and tasted like a Chinese noodle. The regular pad Thai was way too sweet. The curry rice was good! Can't Decide, $13: satay chicken, veggies egg rolls, and veggies spring rolls. The satay chicken comes with 3 dipping sauces: fresh diced cucumber and red onion was too sweet for me, I didn't care for the sweet chili sauce because I know it comes from a bottle, the yellow curry with diced garlic or peanut I can't recall exactly now was actually paired very well with the satay chicken and veggies spring rolls. The fried veggies egg rolls were a bit salty for my preference. Papaya Salad, $12: the dressing sauce was a bit on the sweeter side for my taste. All ingredients were fresh and crunchy with each bite. The spicy level came with it was just right I'm the middle of the scale. If you want more than average heat, ask for extra spicy. I've been eating here for 20+ years and hands down this place has thee best Thai food in all of Portland. Unfortunately, they NEVER have the correct hours of operation available on google maps. They also do not post the hours on their business and that is likely because, from my experience, they seem to make up whatever time they feel like closing. It seems to change all the time. So don't plan your eating schedule by their posted times. If you want to order take out, even though the closing time posted is 9:00pm, I've called before at 8:15pm to order take out & they told me, "sorry, the kitchen closes at 8:30pm". After hanging up and realizing I had 15 more minutes until 8:30 when they said the kitchen closed, I then called back and they changed their story and said the kitchen closes at 8:15 now. And that the restaurant closes at 8:30! They literally just say whatever they want in order to not take your order. So in my opinion, customer service is total crap. So I wonder this.......If you happen to be in there at 8 PM to eat dinner and you get done at 8:20 with your dinner and want to order dessert does that mean you're not going to be able to order dessert because their kitchen is now closed? Even though you're still sitting in there from ordering your food at 8 PM? Pretty lame.! But again, I obviously keep going back because the food is phenomenal. It's just the customer service could totally be better. I don't appreciate when people lie to me. I've actually called before to order food on a day that they had posted that they were open and they weren't open. This is our favorite Thai restaurant and the place we keep in mind when comparing all other Thai food. Specifically Pad Thai. We try the pad Thai at most Thai restaurants we go to. Arawan does a great job of having a harmony between the sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. This is true regardless of the type of protein. We've tried curries, fried rices, various noodle dishes, soups, and a number of appetizers, and have never had a complaint! And as you can see in the picture our 2 year old agrees! My family went here for dinner one night after my wife had gone with a friend and raved about their lettuce wraps. Similar to PF Changs, their lettuce wraps were in fact very good. The chicken Pad Thai I had was pretty average and was not served with a lime, which is a must in my book! My son had the sweet and sour stir fry and that was average as well. Had the Thai papaya salad, the 5 chicken wings, green curry w/rice, and pad ki mao. The green curry and pad ki mao were both good, the chicken wings were breaded and fried to have a nice crunch, and the papaya salad was really refreshing. We went Sunday during the lunch rush and although they were busy, we were lucky and seated within 15 mins. The server was both friendly and attentive, and we received our food pretty timely given how busy they were. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised as I'm picky with my Thai food. We have ordered delivery through a service from here 2x. Each time there were things that were delicious and a small number of things that left us a tad disappointed. Their Pad se lew was incredible- a new favorite place to get the dish!! The next time I got yellow curry w/Tofu. Only there was no tofu. They left it out despite it being on the order. The yellow curry was delicious after I simmer it with my own tofu for a while but it was lacking in vegetables and they used a lot of cabbage in it despite the typical carrots and potatoes and onions. Those items were present but sparse. The flavor of the yellow curry was awesome. It was the light yellow type of yellow curry that has a more clean flavor as opposed to the yellow curry that can be more earthy and fishy found elsewhere. I really like it but I would only order it again after speaking with someone at the restaurant. Hubby's Pad Thai was gross no flavor and the texture was off. We have had more pad Thai around the world than any individual should and just as many variations but this one lacked flavor - any flavor. Their crab puffs are fantastic! They were consistently shaped and filled and had delicious flavor. Hubby detected a tad bit of green onion in them which typically I enjoy but he doesn't. He still ordered them a second time so he had to like them. The other highlight were the fresh rolls. We ordered ours with tofu both times and their version of peanut sauce. The name peanut sauce was a tad mis-leading so if you set that aside and consider it more of a peanut curry sauce then you'll experience the layer flavors of what they offer in this delicious sauce. The sauce seemed like a mix of peanut and yellow curry or something along those lines... again very good "peanut sauce" but it was not like the gloopy sugar peanut or the runny peanut sauce that you'd find elsewhere it was the perfect drizzle or dip consistency and had so much flavor. Truly a delightful sauce. I just wish the thai staple of Pad Thai wasn't so gross and the missing tofu which was a big bummer. Easy to find, easy parking, super nice staff, and easy to order via their website for pickup or via a delivery site like door dash. My usual is pad sei-iew with chicken. It's incredible! I have also gotten their pad ki mow and while it was good the pad sei-iew was better. Their spice levels are a bit more than you'd expect.
