Incredible!! The best Thai food we have ever had. To be fair, I haven't been to Thailand yet, but I have tried a variety of Thai places across the U.S. This was amazing and I will definitely make a special stop here next time I am in Portland. Service was efficient on a weekday for lunch. I was very impressed that the woman serving us also cooks. She said she has one other person helping her over the weekend. The food was SO DELICIOUS. This was the best pad Thai we had with such depth of flavor - not too sweet or oily, just perfect. We also had the pad kra pao, eggplant and tom kha. The tom kha had good flavor and with a thinner broth that I'm used to which was fabulous. The eggplant was so delicious - the consistency was incredible. Not too soggy, just right. I also tried the mango sticky rice. For drinks we had the Thai lemon tea which tasted like Thai iced tea without the milk and lemon added - delightful! We had an awesome experience at Zaap! We went at an odd hour but they were ready and on their game! Super friendly service and we had a tall beer in no time. The egg rolls were really good, so was the Duck Curry, but the fried rice stole the show. Something so simple packed with so much flavor. Solid Thai food (although the Tom Kha Gai soup was a little watery , as well as the green curry we got to go- flavors were good though). Just alittle disappointed that it was standard Thai eatery offerings ( heard that the chef previously worked at Michelin starred restaurant?)... Additionally we had Thai ice coffees, tea, a Singha, as well as drunken noodle, pork laarp, spicy eggplant with pork ... all good. Oh no! I am so sad! I ordered the Tom Kha, pumpkin curry, pad thai with tofu and salad rolls. Unfortunately, both the Tom Kha and Pumpkin curry were extremely watery. The Tom Kha tasted very thin, one dimensional, and was completely white in color. It was sweet but lacked a lot of other complexity of flavor that I am used to in Tom Kha. So bummed as this is my favorite fall/ winter soups. The Pumpkin curry was also really runny and thin, better flavor but again lacked dimension. Pad thai was good, good balance of flavors and salad rolls were good, peanut sauce was warm. Tons of veggies in all the food and veggies were fresh. The service was prompt as we had take out and took about 25 minutes on a Friday night. Unfortunately I wont be back. I have better Tom Kha to find in town! read more

Came here in the afternoon on a Friday when it wasn't too busy. I heard that Portland has a lot of great Thai restaurants. This place lives up to that reputation. Crab Rangoon - The outside was crispy and the filling was delicious. Khao Soi- The chicken drumsticks were tender. The noodles had a nice bite to it. The broth was flavorful and had a nice heat to it. I almost finished the entire broth. Service - Service was quick and attentive. I've had cheaper pad Thai but at $14 it also wasn't the most expensive. My pad Thai felt like a decent portion and I had some leftovers! Have been going to Zaap Thai for the past 5 years and the food is always amazing and the folks here are absolutely wonderful. They have several vegan dishes and we generally get vegan versions of the Evil Jungle with Tempeh, Pad Kee Mao with Tempeh, and the Enoki Mushroom Salad. They also have various vegan specials from time to time, outside of their vegan menu, which have all been amazing and something we keep an eye out for. If you have the time to eat in, you definitely should to fully appreciate certain dishes; but they do an amazing job with doing their to-go orders as well - like frying certain items when you arrive so they don't get soggy from waiting to be picked up. The ambiance is really nice for an intimate or small group meal and this is one of my favorite places to bring people that aren't vegan as they have all been really blown away with the meat dishes they've ordered. read more

This is definitely a spot I'll be returning to! I ordered the chicken pad thai, kra pao moo krob, and a pink Thai tea, and everything was delicious. The kra pao moo krob really stood out! It was an incredibly flavorful fried rice dish with crispy pork belly that had just the right amount of char and crunch. The Thai basil and chili peppers added a ton of bold, aromatic flavor and brought the whole dish to life. Easily one of the best fried rice I've had! The chicken pad thai was also unique in its flavor--more savory and tangy than sweet, which I actually really enjoyed and is refreshing compared to other pad thais I've had! The pink Thai tea was tasty and refreshing, a nice way to cool off between bites. We ordered everything at a level 4 spice, which was definitely spicy but still allowed the flavors to shine through. I ordered Thai Fried Rice with spice level 3 and added chicken. It was really good but I'd probably be ok with doing spice level 4 or 5 and adding more tomato. (It came with two wedges). Overall, it was solid, this will probably be my new go to for Thai in the neighborhood. Side note: be sure to ask for soy sauce etc. as it is not included in the bag. 10 stars! We loved the food at Zaap Thai so much that we came here twice during a three day trip to Portland. The pad kee mao with seafood was EXCELLENT, probably the best pad kee mao I've ever had. The noodles were soft, not chewy, and all of the seafood seemed fresh. Spice level was hot enough for us, and the flavors were on point. The restaurant is well decorated and very enjoyable to dine in. Everything we ordered was absolutely on point and very authentic. All our dishes were made Vegan - Most of the menu can be made Vegan with multiple plant based proteins. The Hawaiian Fried Rice with Tempeh was unique and delicious. The salad rolls were fresh and the papaya salad was tropical and also different yet something we finished in minutes. My absolute favorite is the Pad Kee Mao. Easily one of the best Pad Kee Maos I've had, and this city has a lot of good options. Very authentic aroma and taste, well cooked noodles and a decent amount of veggies/tofu. Note: the food is spicy!! We kept everything a 2/5 and it tasted like a medium besides the papaya salad which was still spicy, so something to consider. I can't imagine getting a 4 or 5/5 on spice, lord have mercy. Price wise, everything is reasonable for the quality taste and quantity that you get. Still 5 stars. They have had a menu change that now includes some Chinese and Japanese crossover dishes. Don't be distracted (the Chinese style eggplant, for example, was definitely not 5 star). The core Isan style Thai menu and dishes, however, are still perfect. read more

Delicious spot. Soft seating and relatively fast service. I ordered a tofu pad Thai. Where I first was really inyroecied to pad Thai was a place in Michigan and it set the standard for memmost places in the west especially use a sweet tarty paste. In the east I find they use a more fishy flavor. Anyway this place seems be be a moderate balance of both. Which is quite delightful. I was very pleased with the right balance. Sufficiently large enough portion size where you don't eat so much that your bloated and not small enough that you feel you want more. read more

I discovered Zaap during the pandemic. I was hooked after my first visit. I've tried a significant portion of the menu and I've never been disappointed. The gra prao is amazing (they actually use holy basil, which is a key ingredient often substituted for Thai basil). The Tom Yum noodle soup is a must have, my family is addicted to it. There are also a lot of veggie options that are quite delicious as well. In a town with a lot of Thailand options this place stands out. read more

Hands down the best Thai food I have ever had. My boyfriend was a chef for many years and the look we gave each other after our first bite was hilarious- it was like, diabolically delicious and we immediately knew it. Like, tasty in a way that's hard to even describe. Just trust me, a random stranger on the internet who was still thinking about this food 12 hours later and wrote a review on yelp. Oh, and get the Thai dumplings. For the love of all things good in this world, get the damn dumplings. Squeezed between two hair salons is a humble Thai restaurant that one might glance at as they pass by on MLK. It's next to two busy streets and the street parking is limited. The restaurant is warm, colorful and homey. This place is hands down the best Thai food we've had since living in Northern Thailand. One of the owners, Beer (sp) is an outgoing twenty-something from Chiang Mai area. Their pad gra pao (Thai basil with onion, peppers and ground chicken) is exceptional, and so is their pad see ew (wide noodle with pork, broccolini and gravy sauce). First time here and we loved the food. A pumpkin curry, evil jungle and beer. The vegetables were very fresh and perfectly cooked. The spice level was good - we're wimpy so had 1.5 and 2 level spiciness, and will probably go a half notch lower next time. It has the feel of a modest little neighborhood spot, but was quite busy, even on a Sunday evening. Lots of dine-in and a steady stream of takeout orders. Our heroic server was handling the front of house all by himself, dine-ins and take-outs. You will most likely park a few blocks off MLK and feel like a local walking over. Entering in, a lot of red brown fabrix decor. Solo staffman running FOH and telephone, ringing off the hook. Piled counter of delivery orders ready to go. Ordered 2 star spice level and it was still too spicy. Fried tofu was too tough. Honey Garlic Pork was tender but not enough honey or garlic. One of my favorite Thai spots, great curries, very flavorful and rich. My go to is usually the Duck Curry, which a lot of places don't always have. Served in a green curry with assorted veggies and grape tomatoes which give a nice pop and juicyness, tho last time I wish there was more duck and less grape tomatoes. The interior is pretty small and cozy with just a few tables and little bar. Not good for groups at least without calling ahead so they can rearrange tables for you. We ordered take-out. In addition to not being ready at the promised time, we were very disappointed in the food. The Amazing Eggplant was very greasy, reminded us of a donut. The rest of the order (Pad Thai, Larb, Crab Rangoon) was bland, also somewhat greasy, and we were surprised by the lack of vegetables, since most Thai restaurants dress up the dishes with lots of fresh veg/herb garnishes, like carrots, basil, etc. read more

Yum some of the best Pad Se Ew I've had outside of Thailand in years. I had the pleasure of visiting on a chilly day and I indulged in some Tom Kha before ordering noodles. I must have said Pad Kee Mao on accident or have been misheard but out came the wrong dish. The server was super nice about it and encouraged me to take the incorrect dish home for roommates. I'm visiting, so I didn't have a roommates or a place to store the food so I gave it to a houseless person near my hotel to keep passing on the good will. AMAZING! First of all I always have high expectations when it comes to food, But this place right here was a true hidden gem. I found this place thanks to yelp on my last day of my Oregon trip. It did not disappoint! Service, vibe and food were all 10/10. We tried a couple different curry's and noodles and our favorite was the pumpkin curry, and the avocado curry. I did also like the red curry with a little spice. My wife had the pad see ew, and flavor were just kicking! The plates are good a portions! We had a lot to go home with. We dined in, food was good but not exceptional. We ordered: Thai dumplings, pumpkin curry with beef and bowl of Tom yum soup with chicken. The dumplings were pretty good, I didn't taste much crab but it was still good when dipped in the sweet soy sauce. Tom yum soup had good flavors but a bit too salty, chicken was too chewy. Although a tad salty, The best dish was the kombocha curry, great hearty flavors, pumpkin cooked perfectly. I would come here again to try more dishes. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Zaap. Thai food in Portland in general is just soooo freakin good. On a recent trip, I knew I HAD to eat a Thai meal at least once so I asked my Portland friends for their recommendations. Zaap came up and the Yelp reviews were fantastic so I decided to stop by for lunch. We came during an off hour (2pm on a Saturday) and the restuarant was fairly empty. We were able to order quickly and our food came out to us quickly as well. Let me emphasize: ZAAP IS DELICIOUS. Everything we had was fantastic. This is one of my favorite restaurants to get Thai food in the PNW. Here's what we ordered (but I'm sure everything on their menu is great) -- Spicy Eggplant with tofu: not too spicy. Fantastic cook on the eggplant! Perfect with rice. -- Pad "Se-Ew": sweet soy flavored wide rice noodle. Really good as well. -- Khao Soi: this was recommended by the server. It's basically a curry soup with egg noodles. It's not the BEST Khao Soi I've ever had, too many crunchies and not enough soup. But it was very flavorful and I don't regret ordering it (but I will probably opt for something else next time) The service was attentive and efficient. The food here is really good. Small-ish restaurant along MLK. There is no parking on MLK, but found easily on the side street. Quickly seated at 6.30 on a Sunday. Ordered the chicken wings. My friend devoured them and loved the texture, taste and sauce. I had tofu larb which was so flavorful with lots of mint. Green curry with shrimp (a bit small, but see price comment) but good with the usual veg and a healthy serving of rice. And a Pad See-Ew devoured. The prices are all around $14+ add protein for $2-4 which is really fair with how restaurants are raising prices recently. Definitely the new go to Thai place for us. read more
