Duck Curry! Enough heat to taste it properly but no sweats or next day suffering!

We had an awesome experience at Zaap! We went at an odd hour but they were ready and on their game! Super friendly service and we had a tall beer in no time. The egg rolls were really good, so was the Duck Curry, but the fried rice stole the show. Something so simple packed with so much flavor. Very laid back vibe, with a bit of a dark subtle decor that allows for a solid date spot as well.

Front left laarp , front right spicy eggplant, back is drunken noodle- hungry and forgot to photo before we ate

Solid Thai food (although the Tom Kha Gai soup was a little watery , as well as the green curry we got to go- flavors were good though). Just alittle disappointed that it was standard Thai eatery offerings ( heard that the chef previously worked at Michelin starred restaurant?)... Additionally we had Thai ice coffees, tea, a Singha, as well as drunken noodle, pork laarp, spicy eggplant with pork ... all good. Would like to try the tempura enoki mushroom salad , and beef salad ( they were out ) next time - we came at the end of lunch time 2:30pm, which is breakfast for our crew, lol... Pricing was not cheap - $20 for the togo green curry - I think we will check out Eem which is around the corner for these price points- Upped a star for service and the cozy sweet vibes...

Oh my gosh, it all starts with the infused water which is absolutely magic. Incredible flavors on the tom kha soup and fresh summer rolls and honestly such a great value The vibe is cozy and authentic. The customer service is outstanding. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other dishes, they all look amazing

Oh no! I am so sad! I ordered the Tom Kha, pumpkin curry, pad thai with tofu and salad rolls. Unfortunately, both the Tom Kha and Pumpkin curry were extremely watery. The Tom Kha tasted very thin, one dimensional, and was completely white in color. It was sweet but lacked a lot of other complexity of flavor that I am used to in Tom Kha. So bummed as this is my favorite fall/ winter soups. The Pumpkin curry was also really runny and thin, better flavor but again lacked dimension. Pad thai was good, good balance of flavors and salad rolls were good, peanut sauce was warm. Tons of veggies in all the food and veggies were fresh. The service was prompt as we had take out and took about 25 minutes on a Friday night. Unfortunately I wont be back. I have better Tom Kha to find in town!

Came here in the afternoon on a Friday when it wasn't too busy. I heard that Portland has a lot of great Thai restaurants. This place lives up to that reputation. Crab Rangoon - The outside was crispy and the filling was delicious. Khao Soi- The chicken drumsticks were tender. The noodles had a nice bite to it. The broth was flavorful and had a nice heat to it. I almost finished the entire broth. Service - Service was quick and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wanted good Thai food.

The service here stood out! We came for a late lunch and were offered seating anywhere we wanted. Our order was taken super quickly and the food arrived within minutes. Food was pretty good! I've had cheaper pad Thai but at $14 it also wasn't the most expensive. My pad Thai felt like a decent portion and I had some leftovers! While I wasn't blown away by what I ordered, I was really impressed by the service.

This is definitely a spot I'll be returning to! I ordered the chicken pad thai, kra pao moo krob, and a pink Thai tea, and everything was delicious. The kra pao moo krob really stood out! It was an incredibly flavorful fried rice dish with crispy pork belly that had just the right amount of char and crunch. The Thai basil and chili peppers added a ton of bold, aromatic flavor and brought the whole dish to life. Easily one of the best fried rice I've had! The chicken pad thai was also unique in its flavor--more savory and tangy than sweet, which I actually really enjoyed and is refreshing compared to other pad thais I've had! The pink Thai tea was tasty and refreshing, a nice way to cool off between bites. We ordered everything at a level 4 spice, which was definitely spicy but still allowed the flavors to shine through. It hit that ideal balance between heat and taste without being overwhelming.

The restaurant is well decorated and very enjoyable to dine in. Everything we ordered was absolutely on point and very authentic. All our dishes were made Vegan - Most of the menu can be made Vegan with multiple plant based proteins. The Hawaiian Fried Rice with Tempeh was unique and delicious. The salad rolls were fresh and the papaya salad was tropical and also different yet something we finished in minutes. My absolute favorite is the Pad Kee Mao. Easily one of the best Pad Kee Maos I've had, and this city has a lot of good options. Very authentic aroma and taste, well cooked noodles and a decent amount of veggies/tofu. Note: the food is spicy!! We kept everything a 2/5 and it tasted like a medium besides the papaya salad which was still spicy, so something to consider. I can't imagine getting a 4 or 5/5 on spice, lord have mercy. Price wise, everything is reasonable for the quality taste and quantity that you get. Even the service was great, with the owner (I think) chatting with the tables and checking in often as well. If you haven't gone yet you definitely should, it's worth it!

We tried the Chopped BBQ Fried Rice, and the smokiness from the BBQ seriously AMPED up all the flavors. Such a great twist on fried rice and so satisfying. The White Curry w/ Brisket Burnt-ends: WOWIE. So much flavor! The sweetness and smokiness from the brisket worked beautifully with the curry, and the meat was wonderfully tender. I also loved the cauliflower in the curry, it added a nice bite and texture that balanced everything out. The Massaman Curry w/ Smoked Lamb Shoulder was delicious, hearty, and PACKED with flavor!!! The lamb was incredibly tender, and the potato soaked up the curry so well. Such a comforting and flavorful dish. Overall, the food did not disappoint at all. Eem has such a unique concept, bringing together bold Thai flavors with Texas-style BBQ, and somehow it works SO well. Definitely a memorable meal and a spot I'd happily come back to!

After days of working my way through Portland's wildly overhyped Thai food, I had begun to wonder…read moreif the problem was me. Maybe Thai food was simply better in Los Angeles. Then I walked into Eem, sat down, took a few bites, and realized the problem was, in fact, everyone else. Eem is a Thai and Texas-style barbecue mash-up that sounds slightly unhinged on paper and makes absolute, beautiful sense once it hits your mouth. This is the kind of fusion that doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels inevitable. I started with the Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken, one of their most popular dishes, and for good reason. Savory, beautifully fried, shatteringly crisp on the outside, juicy and tender within. Exactly what fried chicken should aspire to be. Then came the Wok-Fried Yu Choy. And dare I say it? The best vegetable dish I've ever had? Yes. I think I dare. Spectacular. Deep, smoky, savory, with enough personality to make you briefly question why you ever needed meat in the first place. But the Smoked Pork Krapow is where they really got me. Krapow is traditionally a dish built around seasoned ground beef, but Eem takes the idea somewhere else entirely, folding in pork belly burnt ends. It sounds like excess. It tastes like genius. Smoky, fatty, spicy, deeply aromatic. Completely blew me away. And then there's the room itself. Warm, colorful, playful, beautifully decorated without trying too hard. The service was just as good. Welcoming, attentive, confident, and Portland hospitable. They know exactly what they're doing. Eem didn't just redeem Portland Thai food for me. It reminded me why you venture out to eat in the first place: to discover something you didn't know you needed. So do yourself a favor. Go to Eem first. Before you start categorizing Portland restaurants as Thai or barbecue, before you begin comparing them to other Thai restaurants, before you get trapped in your own expectations. Just go. Because if "Keep Portland Weird" means anything anymore, surely it means putting Thai food and Texas barbecue together, making it work brilliantly, and serving it with a smirk. Thank you, Eem. You just gave me another very good reason to come back to this weird, wonderful town.

You can watch them frying the roti in front of you, they have a great flavor (they're a bit on the thick side), and the curry is absolutely sublime, with an incredible depth of spices without being hot. I also really enjoyed the freshness and textural blend of the "rice salad," with great cucumbers and herbs, although it was too spicy for my dining companions. I admit I didn't think the fried chicken was anything special--the chicken was moist (even the white meat), but the outside could have been crunchier. But I'm not the biggest expert in fried chicken, nor in pad thai, and both were certainly competent even if not as exceptional. Sticky rice was also cooked perfectly.

There is only one vegetarian item on the menu, the veggie curry. It's sort of an afterthought, throwing a bone for the vegetarians in the group. (Could they not make a vegetarian version of the Southern pad thai, just to be a pal?) The curry sauce is tasty, but the veggies were completely undercooked. Raw, tough, spongy pieces of underdone eggplant. It was like the person cooking it did not know what to do with a vegetable. The roti is tasty (I'm not familiar enough with Southern Thai to critique it). But if there's just one veggie item on the menu, and it's just vegetables in a curry sauce, I feel a restaurant should take pride in getting it right. Seating is a little tight, but somehow that adds to the atmosphere as you end up sharing a table with strangers, which is fun. Service is fast and food came out fast (too fast, in the case of those poor eggplants).
