My family and I have been going to both Classy Cuts locations for many years. Tina and her team are very talented and provide excellent hair service. I always go to them to get my haircuts, color treatment, and wax services. They offer hair care for men, women, and kids. I like that it's clean and that they provide many hair services. Ok, here to update to my original review that was almost 3 years ago. My son is now almost 5 years old and we have religiously come to see Amy (or Tina when Amy is off) for his monthly haircut. I must say the service and cuts are STILL unmatched. The price hasn't changed much either, even with inflation. We've even moved 35 minutes away, but I have zero issues making the trip. My son absolutely LOVES Amy and Tina, and his haircuts are always top notch. At this point he would probably lose his mind if I took him elsewhere. read more

Absolutely horrible. As soon as I sat down she started hacking at my hair. I asked for layers to make it look fuller and it looks flatter than when I came in. I told her it was horrible and she argued with me the whole time about the layers. I left the salon crying uncontrollably. It can't even be fixed. It's truly awful. I had a wonderful experience here at Classy Cuts in Tacoma! If you're looking for inexpensive, yet professional cuts and services, the gals here will take care of you. Inexpensive was exactly what I was looking for, as I've been renovating my home little by little and trying to watch my budget. Other salons are charging about $70+ for a haircut. That's a bit outrageous for me. I didn't want a shampoo or scalp massage. Just a cut, and that's what I received. For just a haircut for men or women, it's a walk-in service, no appointment necessary. Men's cut is $22. Women's $26. Kids under 10 is $18. It's an additional $6 if you'd like a shampoo with your hair cut. They also offer waxing, perms, permanent straightening, treatments, color and highlights, beard trims, and mini facials. I walked in and was greeted right away by one of the gals. Both were working on clients at the time. It was good to be acknowledged when walking through their doors. When I was up, I worked with Amy. I told her I wanted to keep my length but cut what was needed to make it healthy. We knocked off about 2.5 inches of hair. I left with my hair feeling and looking a lot healthier, and still long like I wanted it. Amy did a nice job and gets to know her clients whether their new like me, or regulars. Overall, a good place for an express type of cut and service for a nice decent price. Just so you know, they're located near the railroad intersection off of 72nd and E. If I could give 0 stars I would. The lady who worked on my hair was "SUNY". I came in with kinda wet hair, wanted just a trim with some layers. First her attitude was very sour. Like where is the customer service? Second when she got to tangles in my hair (cause it was wet still), instead of adding some serum or blow drying my hair a little she proceeded to RIP & TEAR her comb through my hair literally YANKING my hair till it was ripping off. I mentioned it was painful and that adding some kind of hair oil might help. She continued to ignore me and kept telling me it was happening cause my hair was wet. But wasn't doing anything to help the issue, she just continued to rip out tangles and yank my head around. I added photos beneath showing the results of my haircut when I got home! Super uneven it isn't even funny! Also I have to go pay money a second time somewhere else just to fix her mistakes!! Now my hair is way shorter then I wanted and will have to be even shorter just to fix it. I'm highly upset and will never come back here again! DO NOT COME HERE!! You will be left with pain and have to pay double to have someone else fix it. read more

I believe that for most people there are 2 list in life, the things you 'want to do' and the things you 'have to do.' I would say that for most people, getting a haircut is in the 'have to do column.' I know that is how I felt, that is until I went to Classy Cuts. I feel bad writing a negative review, but it is what it is I guess. I went in to take my younger brother for a haircut. He has gone there for years. I wanted to have my hair dyed so I figured I'd get it done there. I've never had my hair professionally dyed before so I don't know much about it. The price said 50+. My hair is just past the shoulders, curly and brown. I showed the lady a picture of what I was hoping for. She said she didn't think she could match the gray exactly (I guess it was a black/gray hombre style). I understand that hair stylists aren't miracle workers so we agreed she would try to for the closest to gray she could get. She wanted to know if I wanted to use my natural color for the roots or if I wanted the black. I really have NO idea about hair so I told her she's the expert so what did she think? She advised me to dye my whole head gray and let the roots grow in to be the darker part. She kept asking me if I wanted a haircut and I said NO because I was trying to grow my hair out. She started the color removal process and then added the gray afterwards. My hair came out bottom half gray, top half yellow. She told me that when I came back for a touch up we could fix it. I was not going to leave with yellow and gray hair. So she said she would try again, but first she pushed again for a haircut because my ends were so bad. I said ok maybe a trim. She proceeded to THIN MY HAIR without asking and was already half way in before I realized what type of cutting she was doing. It then took her 2 more tries to get the yellow to look like the rest of the gray, with yellow tint. I was there for almost 5 hours. She charged me $205 total for hair coloring (and of course she charged me for the cut I didn't want that absolutely ruined my hair), my brothers cut and some expensive conditioner she sent me off with. She shouldn't have thinned my hair when it was clear I was already very apprehensive about the cut she pushed me into. If she didn't think she could do what I was asking to begin with, she should've told me. And she certainly shouldn't have charged me over $140 for coloring that now literally looks like a feather duster. When we called to complain she said she had already given me a $10 discount and that it did not matter what she had done, that I wouldn't have liked it. That was SO frustrating to hear because I was very gracious about my lack of expertise In this area and i wasn't even that upset about the color itself because you can only do so much. I was upset about the cut and the high price for a VERY so so color job. She made absolutely no attempt to make it right, even after our family's been a customer for years. While I was there, a gentleman was getting his hair done and he told the stylist "I JUST told you not to do that!" I don't know what's going on here, but I dont feel I was cared for, I was just sold on everything and pushed out for the next. Now I'll have to go pay someone to fix the color and theres no fixing the cut. I will just have to wait the years it takes for my hair to grow back in. You can't unthin hair. The customer service needs some SERIOUS work. Bottom line, if you're looking for anything more than a basic men's haircut, I'd go elsewhere. read more

I have been coming here for years! I personally know the owner. My children have had their haircut here for years all through school and today I go in the Tacoma location. I ask for the owner by name because she only here at this location one day a week. I wanted to treat my best friend to a complete color-Haircut. RIGHT when we come through the door we could feel the weird vibe. Once we told them all we wanted because I wanted a cut-color too the lady acted out out. She was eating in the back and the receptionist didn't even have the answers to the questions we needed so, each question we asked the lady would come out of the back with food in her mouth answering our questions like she was put out and didn't want to do the job. Mind you I know the owner she doesn't except this type of behavior. I immediately told her it sounds like we are putting you out and you don't want to do this work. Maybe I should go somewhere else and I will talk to the owner when she gets back in town. The lady told me yeah I think you need to do that and she walked back in the back to go continue eating. Kind of put a dent in my day. I had planned to treat my best friend out, but no problem I'll take my business elsewhere and we did just that! NOT NICE! I've been a customer for several years and have always had a great experience. I personally specifically ask for Tina when I come visit. It's not that the other girls aren't good, but I personally enjoy the conversations and her style. She is very up-to-date with style and often helps me experiment. As great as they might be, I'm lazy and end up with a faux hawk as it's just easier to maintain. I'm usually pretty conservative with my money, so I only get the bare necessities. With Tina, I tried the shampoo one time because I had to be somewhere right after, and now, it's a must have for me every time I get my haircut now. Haircut with a shampoo is cheaper than shampoo by itself. She gives an awesome little massage and head rub during the shampoo, and it feels better than my massage therapist, albeit not quite as long. It's a nice treat. I also get my eyebrows waxed because my wife can't stand it. According to her, Tina has good lines and does a really good job shaping them. I wouldn't know any better, but my wife likes it. In the Tacoma area, I would recommend Classy Cuts. Price is fair and not too crazy like the other salons that you would be in a robe and such. It's still a cozy ma & pa shop. Don't forget to ask for a punch card, especially if you return frequently! read more

Amy is amazing! Went to Hair and Nails right down the street from here and the owner quoted $275 For just a cut and color! As a new homeowner I just can't spend that. Saw this place on the way home, came in for a quote and Amy gave me a great price, even took me in right away! I was offered tea, soda water, never had a salon ask me that before! Even though they were busy she kept a cool head and always had a smile on her face! Also, while I was in some woman named Karen came in for an appt. Problem was she called their sister location in Bonny Lake and became absolutely belligerent when she realized this. Amy knew her by name as she booked her appt and tried everything she could to calm her down. This woman had the nerve to make a racial comment (this is what i get for booking with someone with a language barrier) before storming out of the door which I thought was completely uncalled for. I have been a patron of this salon for many many years. I had my hair colored/highlighted and it wasn't what I expected, it had 3 color tones, brown,gray & orange/yellow. The hairdresser got the back of my shirt sopping wet and on top of it all I was charged $152.00 + tip, I called the next day and made an appointment to try and get it resolved. The hairdresser proceeded to make excuses. She is the professional at services and she should have really known and realized my hair was a mess. It was fixed, I was quoted $60.00 for color and apparently I was charged $75.00 because also charged for styling fee. I was expecting better service as a long time patron, but it seemed the employees could care less. It cost me a total of $227.00!! I will no longer give my business again after this treatment. I got better service at Gene Juarez/guaranteed. I would rather pay more and be satisfied they are the real professionals and very customer oriented. A very unhappy customer. read more

I asked the stylist to give me a very LIGHT trim at my ends, maybe about half an inch to an inch. This lady chopped off about 2-3 inches of my hair. I asked her multiple times only a light trim, and that I was trying to grow my hair out. She really wiped out 3-4 months of growth I was trying so hard to grow out and keep up with. All down the drain. I also asked her a specific, choppy-layered style I wanted. Gave me nothing of the sorts. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. read more

Rick walked me back & washed my hair w/no towel so I asked for one. A lady butchered my inverted bob, shaved the ends, long & short layers ,all lopsided hairdo for months. My regular stylist Amy was off that day, her coworker is the one the one who butchered my hair. Walmart on meridian, a great hairstylist fixed it a bit. She made it manageable, I went back yesterday for another touch up but everyone quits. The staff at Classy Cuts is very polite and quick to get you in a chair. They listened to what I wanted and got straight to work. When the process seemed to get a little long, another stylist helped my stylist out when there wasn't anyone else needing service. The reason that this isn't a 4 or 5-star rating is because at one point during my session, they put a color in my hair that I did not approve of and was not aware was going onto my hair. They were attempting to get some of the orange tint out, but I ended up looking like an old woman with GRAY HAIR! They had dyed it GRAY! As I said, I had by no means approved or even was I aware this was happening. And it wasn't even solid, there was obvious blonde spots all around. The cosmetologist tried to play it off cool and start to style my hair but I expressed my concern (or rather outrage - I all but fell apart in the chair!) and they re-dyed it an appropriate color. Unfortunately because they had to put so much dye in my hair it now feels like straw. What should have been two or three hours turned into over four hours and a lot of stress. I know they discounted what I owed and they were very apologetic. They made sure I was at least somewhat pleased when I left. Despite this, I will probably go back. I know accidents happen and I have a decent-to-look-at head of hair currently. read more

I've been here for a haircut before and got good service and a great cut, so I decided to try them out for a color. It was a horrendous mistake. I asked for color a shade darker than the platinum blond I came in with. What I got was hours of waiting, and a color that was no where near what I asked for. The stylist suggested which color to use. She is presumably the professional and should know. I asked for one shade darker blond, but I got a dark red instead. I think I would have been less upset if she had apologized or in any way took responsibility for it, but she did not. read more
