I moved to Herndon when I got married. I can't say I'm a fan of the Herndon area in general. But I am a fan of the Herndon Community Center, especially now that we have a toddler. This community center is clean, friendly and organized. They are an alternative to a gym with their discounted group fitness classes, lap pools, racketball rooms, and workout equipment. I love this center for the kids classes. Their classes are affordable and available year around. Our toddler started with the 'mommy & me' swimming class when she was 16 months. The instructor, Levi, was excellent, as he had the perfect enthusiasm and personality to work with babies and toddlers. Even though our little one didn't get comfortable with the water until her second to last class, we were so encouraged by the instructor that we signed up and continued onto the toddler swimming class. Now she loves the water and the pool. We were eyeing their beginners ballet class and some arts & crafts classes for our toddler. It's a great way for her to meet other little people and learn new skills. read more

Was looking for a place to swim (laps) and finally got a chance to try this place. It's been closed due to Covid. Finally they opened, and opens early at 7am which is ++ . extremely friendly staff, the areas are very clean, pool clean. Purchased a pass and definitely going back. read more

$6.25 for a day pass, its hard to beat that. If you live in Herndon its only $5, but personally you would need to pay me a lot more that $1.25 to live in Herndon (but then I don't drive a minivan and don't have a child who is a honor student in some-elementary-school-name-here). I've used the gym here few times. They have all the basic in free weights - barbells, dumbbells, benches, smith machine, and a cable machine. They also have the full set of fixed equipment also. There also seem to be plenty of the cardio stuff for those who like to run/bike/ellipsis indoors (the WO&D is right outside also). The locker rooms are clean (well the guy's is, they wouldn't let me inspect the ladies even after I told them I was a Yelp reviewer - maybe if I was elite :). You'll need two quarters to use the locker (conveniently included in the $.75 change that happens off a $6.25 door fee). They also have a 25 yard pool, basketball, tennis (including cover), and racquetball courts. They also do classes. Heck of a lot of stuff for six and change. It's a community center in a relatively affluent looking area. The gym is decently appointed as is the pool. There are courses offered in all sorts of interests, from yoga to guitar. Needs a bit of sprucing up, though. Used it for a quick shower after landing at Dulles as it's only 5 miles away. I landed at 6 am and was only getting to my final destination at 7 pm, so it suited me perfectly. Memo: bring towels. read more

They said in our contract that we'd have time to set up before our party, but then they booked a birthday party in the room up until our time. The whole place just seems overly crowded with shady characters and looks outdated and dirty. I guess it's a decent value if you need a room for something, but they obviously are not very organized, and it's not really state-of-the-art or that nice or anything. read more

Taking a hula hoop dance class so I haven't experienced the rest of the facilities, the classes are great, the classroom/basketball courts seem nice, there is good audio in the classrooms and I love the bright windows. I've walked around and the tennis courts seem great, they also host a large variety of events and classes. I like the drive and I always feel calm after going. Will definitely look into other classes and potentially a membership. read more

Strictly a review on the workout area (gym) and nothing else. I've had a few yearly passes to the Herndon community center. I used to get them because of the gym. since my mom has been a member for over 10 years, I would also get a yearly pass as it was convenient and I didn't know any better. The gym stinks. It is outdated, small, and doesn't have enough machines. If you're paying $400 for a yearly pass, you expect a little more from a gym. I get that the price includes the use of the locker rooms and swimming pool, however, that is all. You still have to pay extra for the classes and the badminton courts. After feeling like I've been getting screwed, this summer I started looking for a new gym. I found one close enough to my house that was brand new. It was still under construction when i first joined which wasn't ideal but who cares? $23 a month for a year that includes free classes cannot be beaten! New equipment, very friendly staff,great prices, and two story gym is amazing!! I will NEVER go back to the Herndon community Center after knowing how a gym should really look. read more

The best personal training (Karen) and outdoor fitness classes are at the Herndon Community Center! When the world shut down for Covid I was looking for new things to try. The HCC offered outdoor classes and personal training. It was fun. They provided all the equipment and we worked out on the soccer field. Yes, sometimes it was hot or cold, but it isn't stifling like being inside. It's invigorating to look up at the sky and do sit-ups instead of fluorescent lights. I'm so happy they're going to have the outside programs in the spring! read more

I visted HCC when I signed my infant up for a Mommy & Me swim class. I was impressed with how large the locker rooms were, there are plenty of showers, lockers, and changing rooms. They even have a Family Locker Room as children over the age of 5 are not allowed in the locker room of the opposite sex. The pool is pretty large and there is an extensive "training pool" area for the little ones. The center itself is huge and hosts a variety of activities including preschool, a teen center, summer camp, and other classes for adults and children. There's a decent sized fitness center with cardio equipment and weights, and a drop-off childcare center so you can leave your kids and work out in peace. The only downside is that if you don't live in the "Town of Herndon," you have to pay a little extra. read more

I had expectations of this place and then I visited. The desk attendant was rude to me and it was the first time I had been there. Then I went back to the gym and was shocked at how small it was. I have been a member to many gyms in the area and was not happy about this place. The machines are about 20+ years outdated, extremely cramped around each other and there were only 3 treadmills...There was also no music playing. It was very awkward. Not going back! read more

My Toddler is enrolled in the Happy Feet soccer class for ages 2-3 years old. She loves Coach Jeff but I wish the room it was held in was larger. Having the kids plus their parents in there can be pretty cram. I can understand why the basketball court would be too big for toddlers to pay attention in but the activity rooms are just too small. The center is clean and the renovated playground is very nice. The front desk could use some perking up as they do not seem friendly or enthusiastic about being there. The pool is small and the gym is cram. It looks like it's stocked with outdated equipment. Otherwise, we're enjoying the Happy Feet class but would much rather take swimming lessons at Claude Moore since the pool is bigger and has more to do. read more

I grew up coming here and I have many fond memories of the recreation areas, fitness center, and pool! I took my first ballet classes here as a 3 yo :), played ping pong with my mom, swam here growing up, and worked out here to the gym after college. Now I have a pool pass for when I'm in the area visiting my family. It has had some additions made throughout my time as a customer and looks great: new arts and crafts room and two beautiful community rooms. Busy swim time in the morning so be prepared to circle swim and ask if you can share a lane with someone. read more

Herndon Community Center's drop in Body Pump class is not only a fantastic workout offered 6 days a week, but their instructors are inspiring and personal. They consistently walk around the group, checking in to see that everyone's form is proper, safe, and working you to your max. read more

Came to gym hop here and I noticed it's a very Lousy fitness/weights area. They may have resistance bands and a TRX (this stuff doesn't buy me into saying a gym is nice), but the reason I made this a one star Bc it's small and cramped, last but not least super awkward. read more

About 14 months ago I enrolled in a small group class called "Fit in a Flash." The class emphasizes core strength. I am 64 years old and feel that this class has literally made me feel years younger. I am much more energetic and no longer have any qualms about living in a townhouse where I am constantly going up and down steps. The instructors are excellent and make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. They also advise you on any specific problem areas where you experience pain. I am very well pleased with the Community Center as a whole and think that the classes are a terrific value. read more

After having a horrible experience, with my then 2 year old, at Kids First Swim School in Sterling, I decided to try the Herndon Community Center classes. The Community Center advertised prices that were a fraction of the cost; I was hesitant to try, but figured I'd give it a go. I am BEYOND thrilled. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and the classes are well organized. Our swim teacher, 'Mr. Levi' is WONDERFUL. The class he teaches is for children ages 3-5, with parent. He sings songs, plays games, all while incorporating important fundamental swimming instructions. My son just LOVES his swim class, and Mr. Levi! Can't rave enough! read more

Love the HCC. The facility isn't flashy. It is well equipped, comfortable, clean, and the reasonable rates for facility use and personal training make HCC great value. A few months ago, I was looking for a place to continue my fitness program and I thought of trying out the community center instead of a regular commercial gym. I signed up with one of the fitness trainers at the center. My trainer is very motivating and encouraging, I am making great progress. Also, I like that I have access to the pool. And when I attend the group classes, I like that they're not crowded and the instructors are great. The only downside is that I don't get the 'in-town' resident rate even though I have a Herndon address. But the experience is worth the difference and I enjoy my new weekly routine at the Herndon Community Center. read more

The personal training at the Herndon Community center is fantastic. Jane Grannis is the best of all but they are all great. It's just that in the past 15 months Jane has helped me lose almost 50lbs and I am truly grateful for all the encouragement and help she has given me. It s comfortable and non threatening (like most gyms are). If you want the help I would advise you to try it and it is also the best price in town. The Herndon Community Center has been a big part of my life growing up and will continue being a big part of my life. They offer so many different types of classes fitting to each individual's preferences such as: Fitness (big classes, small groups or individual training), Arts and Crafts, Special Interest, and Special Events. The prices are wonderful, get so much out of the classes, and the staff at the Herndon Community Center are very helpful and all have wonderful personalities. Last Fall I took The Shape Up for Women Fitness class and TRX Suspension Training. Shape Up For Women is a 60 min workout that combines cardio and strength exercise training that is particularly designed for women. The TRX Suspension Training is a 30 min workout that challenges your whole body. Believe me you will feel muscles that you never thought you had. This is a full-body workout using straps to fire up the core and your muscles. These classes helped me become stronger, do things I thought I could never do, and provides a long lasting healthy life style. I also recommend Personal Training. I been having a personal trainer since fall and will continue doing so. The Personal Training is a good way to start a new healthy life style or further develop a challenging fitness program to continue to improve your health and fitness. The trainers are wonderful, inspiring, humorous, and very supportive. They will challenge you every way to help you become stronger and keep you on that path of a healthy life style. read more

The personal training is as good as it gets for a fraction of the cost of a private personal trainer elsewhere, especially when you buy the 10 session packs. I've used three different trainers there - Stephen, Karen and Jane. All are professional, knowledgeable and very good about targeting the work-outs to individual needs taking into consideration specific physical weaknesses or injuries. I've had very productive work-outs with my foot in a brace from an unrelated injury. I've also observed some small group training sessions that are even more cost effective than individual personal training. I would recommend the personal trainers at the Herndon Community Center to everyone! read more

We make such good use of their exercise classes and weight room that I switched from 25-session drop-in pass to a 6-month pass. Giving 4 stars rather than 5 only because I've not been to other places for a comparison. I've been using one of their personal trainers (Karen) for a few years, and before that was in one of the strength exercise classes. Karen can't be beat. She tailors each session to your needs, varies the workout from session to session, and can adjust on the fly if you just can't do some exercises some day. She makes sure that all muscle groups are worked over time and also offers advice on diet and home exercise. I have two 45 minute sessions a week, which gives enough time to work through several exercises. She also demonstrates each exercise and watches your form while you're doing it. While the results were not instantaneous, my lean body mass has been gradually improving along with general muscle tone and strength. The cost is also very competitive. I'd definitely recommend it. read more

I have been working with my personal trainer, Karen, at the Herndon Community Center for over 2 years now. I have nothing but great things to say about the training staff! She has adapted my training program for a variety of races (everything from a local 5K to a half Ironman), weight loss, coming back from illness or injury, or just generally staying in shape throughout the year. I never end up doing the same exercises twice, so I never feel like my workouts are getting stale -- that's extremely difficult to do for a client you've been working with for such a long period of time! There is a training room used specifically by the trainers at the HCC that provides you with the space and equipment you need, and they are always bringing in great new equipment to try. I've also dealt with several of the other trainers there (both through personal interaction, and the fact that my whole family has trained with different people), and they are all equally wonderful to talk to, and have their own training styles that get adapted for each of their clients.
