The owners provided fire wood and had recently purchased a hot tub so we were the first ones to use it (yesssss!). We went with a group so half stayed upstairs while we stayed downstairs. The cabins are separated so I was a bit of a drag walking up a hill to visit friends but also nice to keep our privacy. The cabins are far from the main house so we were able to play music without being overly cautious. The only downfall was the driveway up. It consists of those white rocks so you have to rev your engine to go up the hill toward the cabin without getting stuck (which happened to our friend). All in all, this was a great experience and was only a 20 minute drive to Hocking Hills State Park, a must see. Jerry and Wendy are excellent hosts!

Each cabin is far enough from the others with enough forest between them that you truly feel secluded in your own private site. We absolutely love The Crows Nest and I cannot recommend it enough nor give enough praise to the owners of Springwood due to their attention to detail and the perfect and spotless condition that they keep the cabin in. We've stayed at many cabin rentals throughout Ohio and Springwood Cabins has made us feel the most welcome and relaxed. The moment you walk in, you can feel the love that the owners have put into the cabin. Crows Nest is a two bedroom cabin with a large open living/kitchen area and each bedroom has its own full private bath. The front porch is spacious with four rocking chairs and they've added a brand new covered back deck with a table and plenty of seating and a new hot tub. We spent our breakfast time on the back deck daily. There is also a brand new outdoor grill below. To the left of the cabin is a well maintained fire pit with three sturdy benches, so you don't even need to bring your own camp chairs if you don't want to. Speaking of needs, the cabin is provided with everything you could need, all you have to bring is your food. Seriously. They supply bath towels and wash cloths, hot tub towels, paper towels, extra trash bags, toilet paper, kitchen towels, a fully stocked kitchen of cookware and utensils and plates. The appliances are well kept and clean: coffee maker, microwave, toaster and Keurig (with Keurig cups supplied), even dog bowls for if you bring your pets. And the WiFi is solid as well. When you first walk in, there is soothing music playing and you feel at peace immediately. It is thoughtfully decorated, the kitchen towels are even folded neatly on the stove. In the island counter is a personalized welcome tent card and that little detail made it feel extra special. I am really trying to find something constructive to add but it's difficult because the place is just perfect. If anything, I wish there were some hooks on the bathroom doors to hang my clothes, there is only a towel bar in the bathroom. I eventually want to stay at the Crows Nest in the fall for the changing of leaf color, I can only imagine how beautiful it is. I'd recommend Springwood to anyone who wants to truly get away for some time without sacrificing comfort.

Four Seasons is a few minutes outside the town of Logan and maybe 20 minutes from the state park. The cabins are maybe a 10 minute drive from Kroger or 5 minutes from gas stations, downtown Logan, etc. The cabins were pretty easy to find. The 2 cabins are near each other, but still private. The Song Bird has 2 bedrooms with queen size beds, one bathroom, a covered hot tub, deck with charcoal grill and small patio table with 4 chairs, a wood burning fireplace (glorious!), full size fridge, small 4 burner gas stove, and small microwave. Song Bird is furthest back and doesn't offer much of a parking spot. there's a relatively steep hill on one side where you park and a little drop off on the other so not a lot of room to negotiate on the sides of the vehicle. We found it easiest to back into the spot so we didn't have to back down the long driveway which was hard to see because of fallen leaves, etc. The other cabin has a large parking area, which I coveted. The wooded area around the cabins is really pretty, especially during fall when we visited. The rentals are both pet friendly (although, thankfully our cabin did not smell like a dog). The grounds offer a small, picturesque pond with a paddle boat and gazebo, as well as hiking trails and fire pits. There is an orchard as well. There was no cell phone service here for us - we both had Verizon. No WiFi. No phone in the cabin that I saw. Song Bird's bathroom had 4 large towels, washcloths, hand towels and also had shampoo, conditioner and body wash there to use. Decent but small bathroom. The showerhead was a hot mess with water spraying in all the wrong directions. The bathroom has an overhead fan in case you ate chili cheese fries for lunch and don't want to kill the romance in the small cabin. The bedrooms had plenty of pillows. I could have used some extra, heavier blankets but that's because I like to sleep with blankets that weigh about the same as Andre the Giant. Maybe they were stashed somewhere and I didn't see them. The living room was comfortable. Leather couch near the fireplace. We purchased a crate of wood for $5 from Four Seasons and LOVED the wood burning fireplace. Pick up a newspaper or something so you have something to help start the fire. We used one of the Hocking Hills magazines as we had nothing else to use. We brought DVDs (Boardwalk Empire) and made good use of the DVD player there, but they do have satellite tv which was playing classical music when we arrived. There were cups, glasses, wine openers, silverware, plates, etc.in the kitchen. A coffee maker and a decent amount of coffee and powdered creamer left there from other renters. A hot plate, too, I think? A toaster. The only thing in the fridge was ketchup. Some pots and pans and bowls. You''ll be washing whatever you dirty so if you're not a fan of washing dishes bring some paper plates, plastic utensils and drink out of the wine bottle. During our visit the stove didn't work and there was no discount or anything offered. I chose this place partly because it had a stove (many cabins only have a microwave and mini fridge) so we could make breakfasts, etc. so I was bummed we couldn't cook at all. We found out at the last minute so couldn't find another cabin. The driveway to the rental office and to the cabins is a little hilly and bumpy. I kept thinking you'd need 4WD/AWD if you rented on a snowy day in the winter. It would be really cozy and beautiful there in the winter. I looked at a LOT of cabins before choosing Four Seasons and found Four Seasons to be more reasonably priced. The cabin was clean and decently decorated and cozy. Despite the fact that my relationship met its demise in Hocking Hills, I had a nice time at the cabin and would recommend it.

May had some pretty chilly nights so it was definitely hot tub time! We also had a fire one night which was a must in a Hocking Hills cabin. The beds slept great! I stay in the Westins with their "Heavenly Beds" when I'm on the road for business so I am pretty picky with my pillows and sheets. I gotta say, the pillows were not too far off from sublime. We all slept in, which we hardly ever do. I think my favorite part of the stay was sitting out on the balcony before everyone got up, sipping coffee and eating bagels while taking it all in each morning. Tough to beat that!!! --Also, the view from up on the top of the hill behind the cabin of the other hilltops was amazing. The groundskeepers had obviously taken great care in keeping the paths at the top really clean cut, which allowed great views of the pond and apple orchard. This really is a special place to get away for a night or two. It's not the Ritz, but it IS a great little gem if you are looking to get away and also have a good base of operations for the area attractions i.e. Old Man's Cave, Wineries, Bicycle Path from Nelsonville to Athens, Wineries, etc.

Salt Creek Retreats is a 40 acre camping retreat, with only two rentable sites; a cabin and a yurt…read more Recently, my friends and I stayed at the yurt. A Yurt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurt), if you're wondering, is traditionally a Mongolian tent. But the type at Salt Creek is of the more modern North American variety, made with parquet floors and plastic coverings. It has sleeping room for four, with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. There's also a folded up futon underneath the bunk beds if needed. The yurt also has a gas space heater, large kitchen trash can, table, and a cabinet fully stocked with a variety of camping essentials like matches, first aid, baby wipes and instant coffee. Outside, the spacious camp is just as well set up. As you drive up the dirt path to the site, you'll first see solar showers that are usable during the summer, then an outhouse. Ten feet down from that is the main site. On the right side of the road is a hammock, a wood picnic table, the yurt, and then an air chair. On the left, a huge hutch of fire wood, a big steel fire pit, a barbecue, then two more camp tables under a big canopy. Behind the yurt side structures is a thick woods, while behind the fire pit side is a medium-size creek. There is a large supply of pots and pans, hanging spoons and tongs left for the campers, although much of this is rusting pretty badly, unfortunately. The double pointed hot dog skewers were great, however. This is a truly beautiful camp site, well stocked and designed. A few of the cooking implements being in less that useful shape doesn't take away from all the wonderful stuff that is provided, and doesn't impact the peace and pristine nature around you. A wonderful spot to go relax and get away from it all.

Its fantastic because its: 1) Amazingly Private - secluded in beautiful hocking hills with several miles of private trails, a fishing pond, a scenic overlook, and a river to swim in. No pesky state park rules. Phones don't work here. Leave your crackberry at home!! 2) Doggie Friendly - They love it here! 3) Great for Groups - Sleeps up to 6, with room for many many more in tents. Bring all the kids! 4) Easy as Pie - comes fully stocked with dishes and cooking supplies, pillows, chairs, grills, etc. There's a little store in Laurelville (about 15 min drive) if you need anything (like pie!), and there are some houses nearby if you have an emergency. Consider coming here in the winter - the yurt has a heater, and there's a roof over your head. Or in the spring - to hunt for morels and wild ramp. One minute you're driving along backroads in Ohio and then BAM, you're starting at a medieval castle. Ravenwood Castle is well known for its focus on games of all kinds - board games, social deduction games, scavenger hunts - you name it, they have it. My mom and I came for a special weekend where they were hosting a murder mystery. Put on by a separate company, but hosted within Ravenwood Castle, our murder mystery experience started on Friday night and ran through Sunday morning. We worked in teams to solve the mystery and along the way participated in goofy and quirky games and puzzles to help us score points. When you stay, you can eat on site, or you can book a cabin and bring & prepare food in a small kitchenette. Alternatively, there are a few places you can order from / go out to in the surrounding areas, but nothing is particularly close by because the castle is in a remote area. While I found the food to be mediocre, the beer and whiskey selection is great, and a surprise stand out was their version of butterbeer, which is dangerously chuggable. If you're someone who loves board games and wants a weekend away to connect with friends or family, this is a great place to go!

There is a plethora to choose from as soon as you check in or when you're dining in the pub or premade scavenger hunts to do while walking around the property during your stay. My husband and I aren't board game enthusiasts but we did have a great time at the castle. After checking in we made our way to the King Arthur Suite, a short walk from the check-in desk and through the dining hall. The door to the King Arthur Suite is quite literally in the middle of the dining hall which we personally felt was kind of awkward because it is a prime gathering space for most of the guests. The two story suite was spacious, painted in a funky green and featured a giant jacuzzi tub which was the highlight of the room. A comfortable four poster bed on the second story made us feel like royalty and is close to the door that leads to a porch over looking the grounds behind the castle. My husband made a fire in the large fire pit outside of the castle that is closer to the cabins. The area was stocked with wood and we spent the majority of our evening enjoying a warm fire on the cool fall night. The pub downstairs serves beer and basic bar fare. It wasn't very busy when we stopped by but service was wonderful and we felt very welcome. Another couple proposed the four of us play a game together and we reluctantly obliged. Our patient competitors taught us how to play "Ticket To Ride" and it was a blast. So, in the end, Ravenwood Castle (and our new friends) did turn us into game people.

The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place.

However they are really clean and cozy Cottages for an affordable price. They have 3 lake front Cottages one of which is and old log cabin. All of the lake front properties are fairly private for being waterfront. This particular cottage is called On the Lake. I'm not big on reviews however I feel most people have only left reviews for complaints. So I figured I would add some good insights for a small business that has allowed us to be able to get away many times without breaking the bank. We will definitely recommend to others as well. First thing is 100% the trees coming out of the driveway need to be trimmed back about 5 feet or a mirror needs to be put in the trees across the street so your guests can see. It was so nerve racking coming out of there every single time as we were worried we would get creamed by a car. Dave even almost got hit pulling out one day when he was there. It's only a matter of time before one of your guests get killed leaving that property. Another issue, we literally saw Dave every day we were there. Friday it was lawn work. Pretty sure that could've been done in between guests, while the cabin was being cleaned. Sunday it was bc the hot tub needed a filter. Then we were packing up today around 10:20 and he was already on the property doing stuff. How are people supposed to come and have a romantic weekend when you have the cabin keepers coming to the property every day? We found it very intrusive and awkward for our relaxing trip. The cabin has the potential to be a really really nice cabin if it was redone/remodeled/updated. We know people would be fighting for that rental being right on the lake and especially having a dock as well. It would be even better if it were more modern and more comfortable. You can just tell it's not as nice as some of the other rentals in the area. We've stayed in a couple and it's definitely nice coming back to a nicer placer that you paid for instead of a place that's just like a regular house. The furniture is old and dirty. The living room and bedroom is very dark and dusty. There are cobwebs on the beams and even in the rack above the oven with the pots and pans and the dishes on the shelves are dusty. If it was a nicer cabin you could charge more money to rent it out. We'd rather pay an extra $300 and stay in a nicer place with WiFi mind you. The only reason we took this one was because it was on the lake and had the dock and we had planned to have a boat with us, which didn't happen. But cabins directly on the lake with docks to rent are very rare in that area and y'all could really be getting so much more if it was nicer. But again we enjoyed our stay. I know not a lot of time is spent at the cabin when we are in the area but when we are at the cabin we want to comfortable and relaxed and not feel like we're being watched.

Lazy Lane later tried to excuse it by saying "it's Hocking Hills," but that doesn't mean every cabin in the area requires special vehicles. Any reputable business should clearly disclose if their property isn't safely accessible by a standard car. When we called for help, the only advice we were given was to park at the bottom of the hill and carry our luggage, groceries, and children up the steep driveway in the dark -- an unacceptable and unsafe suggestion. We had no choice but to turn around and go home, completely devastated. We reached out immediately and followed up several times, but it took days to even get a response. By then, they claimed they couldn't refund us because they had already paid the cabin owner -- even though we called the same night the issue happened. That is not the customer's fault; it's a breakdown in how they handle problems. They later offered two free nights as a "good faith" gesture, but they had to be used before the end of the year. With school and work schedules, that offer was useless to us. Lazy Lane Cabins failed to take responsibility, communicate effectively, or provide any meaningful resolution. Their dismissive attitude and lack of customer care were shocking. If you're thinking about booking with them, don't. The cabins may be inaccessible, and if something goes wrong, you'll be left on your own with no help and no refund.

Nowhere on the website or in the reservation details did it say that four-wheel drive was required to reach the cabin. And while the company later tried to argue that "it's Hocking Hills" so guests should expect steep roads, that is not a reasonable excuse. Many rentals in the area are fully accessible by standard vehicles. A business renting cabins in the hills should clearly disclose when a property can't be safely accessed without 4-wheel drive. When we called their after-hours number that night, the only suggestion was to park at the bottom of the drive and hike our luggage, groceries, and small children up a steep, unlit gravel path -- completely unrealistic and unsafe. We had no choice but to turn around and drive home, ruining our long-anticipated weekend and wasting hundreds of dollars in groceries and gas. We contacted Lazy Lane immediately and followed all of their instructions, but they were unresponsive for days. By the time they finally replied, they said they couldn't refund us because they had already paid the cabin owner -- even though we notified them the night of the issue. That's not the customer's fault; it's a failure of their business process. They later offered two free nights as a "good faith" gesture, but only if used before the end of the year. That offer was useless to us since our kids are back in school and our vacation time is gone. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but Lazy Lane still refused to issue a refund and continued to insist that the problem was ours. Lazy Lane Cabins completely failed to take responsibility for their lack of disclosure and their poor handling of this situation. Their customer service was dismissive and slow, and their "solution" was impractical.
