Unfortunately, 1-star is as low as it goes, so they get that one by default. Can't tell you about the buying process because we never made it that far. Found a car in their online inventory that looked promising, and requested info. Got a text right back telling me it was available. Set up an appt w/ confirmation message the next morning. While on the way to the dealer, sent a message to ensure that the car we inquired about was still available and told them that was the only car that we were interested in. We were told the car was indeed available and it would be pulled out front and ready to test drive. When we arrived, it was not. Surprise, surprise. The salesman looked it up, and then told us that it had just been taken to another lot. He said he would see if he could get it pulled back over, and walked away. He came back with some grimy looking salesman in a gold chain and shook his head to let us know it was gone. We had already made it clear we were not interested in any other vehicles, but grimy with the perm tried to schmooze us anyway. We obviously weren't having it and he called us rude as we walked away, as if baiting someone into a dealership under false pretenses isn't rude. Waste of time and gas. Proceed at your own risk, but know that the 2017 RAV4 SE in Barcelona red with 77k miles is not available and still posted. Update: Not only is it still up, but the dealership is still responding to inquiries for this car as of now, 10 hours later, saying it is available and asking to make an appointment to come see it . The luring of customers under false pretenses is fraudulent and illegal.

    Damaged rim
    Bob C.

I purchased a used Kia Forte on 8 February 2025, in active duty Army going on 19 years and had just previously returned from an overseas deployment. On my way back from purchasing the car I stopped to let some air out of the tires because the PSI was almost at the max, I noticed the damage to the rims on the passenger side and focused I would address it to the dealership the following Monday since my kids where waiting on me at home. I've reached out to them twice already and keep being told there's nothing they can do, the manager even said that it was considered in the pricing but it was never brought up or shown to me prior to the purchase. This is obvious physical damage that is on the car that the dealership did not disclose.

After taking the car for a test drive, I came back to the negotiation table with Kathy Parks and began discussing how I could pay for the car of my dreams.

For example, one of the other car dealerships prevented us from taking the car to an independent mechanic! You know they were hiding something with the car. Anyway, not only did Texas Cars Direct let us take the car to an independent mechanic, they were professional, not pushy like some of the other guys we dealt with, and easy to do business with. Mike, it was a pleasure doing business with you. Thank you for selling us the newest car in our company fleet! P.S. He called me and said they needed a part that would not be there until Monday. David paid for my flight home and said the truck would be shipped to me. I received the truck late the next week. When driving from where I received the truck, the check engine light came on. I notified him of this issue and he said to have it fixed locally and he would reimburse me. It has been several months and many texts and calls and still no reimbursement. Up until this point, David lived up to his word but I am extremely disappointed to have to write a partial negative review due to not receiving this promised reimbursement. In addition, the check engine issue took two times to resolve, the second requiring an additional cost which I decided to absorb thinking I would get the promised reimbursement. In closing, David did live up to his word on everything until this reimbursement issue so I can't give a 5 star review due to this

Before visiting the dealership, I negotiated the price and completed the financing application. I told him I was in the middle of a move, needed to turn in the moving truck the next morning. I wanted everything handled beforehand, so I could show up, take the vehicle, and leave. Instead, we sat there over an hour waiting before anything happened. Our salesperson didn't know where the vehicle was, and couldn't find the keys. Then he found the vehicle, but had the wrong keys. Once he finally located the correct vehicle and keys, it had no fuel. When he brought it up for a test drive, the check engine light was on. He ran inside to get assistance, and they told us it was fine and it's because it was out of gas, and would go off in a little while. After the test drive, we returned and waited some more. We were eventually taken to the service department, where the finance manager would not provide anything in writing regarding the check engine light. Instead, he told us we could trust him because everyone there knew him. He spent much of the conversation complaining about being at work late. When we finally reached the finance office two hours later, the finance rep also complained about being there late. She said she had no idea why we had been waiting so long because everything was ready to go when we arrived. She told me all the loan and purchase paperwork would be emailed to me. After signing, I was told to find someone to install the temporary plates. The place was empty except for one employee at the front desk, playing a game on his phone. We had to get his attention and he never even looked up while helping us. He attempted to install the plates one-handed while still playing the game on his phone. My husband actually offered to hold the phone for him. He handed me a key and I also asked about the second one. I was told I would have to come back another day because it was locked in a room that only a manager could access. Didn't even consider where I live and that it might not be convenient for me to go back there. He went inside and locked the door and left us out there. Then, it wouldn't start - the battery was dead. We had to knock on the windows and wave to get the guy's attention to come back out. We decided to leave the truck at the dealership and were told it would be fixed on Monday. The next day (Sunday), I decided I didn't want a broken brand new vehicle, and I really didn't want to give that place my business. I never took delivery, but even if I had, Clay Cooley has a three day money back guarantee, so I could get out of it. Monday morning, I texted my salesperson and told him I wanted to cancel the transaction. He asked how I had paid the down payment. I told him it was by credit card and requested written confirmation that the deal had been canceled. He never responded. I also never received any of the loan or purchase paperwork via email (checked spam too). After hours with no response, I emailed the finance rep. She informed me that the transaction had been canceled but could not provide anything to confirm. She told me the pending refund on my credit card should be good enough and suggested that I call the bank. I didn't even know who the bank was at this point, because I never got the loan paperwork. After asking for it again I finally did, so I figured out who the bank was and called. They had no record of a cancellation but said it could take a few days to appear. Frustrated, I again requested written confirmation from the finance rep. Instead of providing it, she told me I'd I wasn't happy with her service, I should contact the sales manager. I wanted everything documented in writing, so I asked for the manager's email address - never got a response. THEN I texted sales manager (Todd) and asked for assistance - crickets. The following day he replied he had a family emergency and would follow up the next day. At that point I was prepared to just let it go and hope for the best. However, I kept receiving emails requesting proof of insurance for a vehicle, and I was getting emails from SiriusXM that a trial had been activated. Concerned that the cancellation had not actually been processed, I contacted Todd again for help. All I got was "stop texting me." I was never rude or aggressive, and I contacted employees during normal business hours. When it comes to dealerships, I do everything in writing, so I have all the emails and texts to back this up. I knew Clay Cooley had a poor reputation, but they beat the price of a vehicle I found in Houston. So I took a chance, hoping they could at least deliver a running vehicle, and I could get in and out and deal with them as little as possible. Apparently not. Avoid Clay Cooley at all costs!

PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING…read more This is long overdue. I tried not leaving this review, but the public has to know. I don't deserve what I'm going through with my perfect credit score being over 740. This vehicle has a recall since 2019, but the dealership doesn't touch anything aftermarket, it has to be stock. When I first saw the vehicle, I checked the engine light since it was deleted. I barely saw enough since I didn't want to be caught. Now that I have the vehicle, there's more than what I expected. Again, bring an engine code reader, don't go by what they say. I'm spending over $1,200, and there's a lot more I'm having to pay to get my valve springs repaired which is around $800-$1,600 to fix. So yeah, I'm one "happy" customer alright. I already replaced the fuel filler neck and charcoal canister that was causing the fueling up the gas tank problem, and now the most expensive one yet is my valve springs that's causing a lot of things to go wrong with my ride. I got crapped on, big time time. I surely hope everyone double and triple CHECKS ANY vehicle before buying. Don't just go by what anyone says at all. That is all. Thank you.

This adventure includes the mountain pass; The Grapevine. Amidst California's historic drought, I drove through a gnarly storm (both directions). In addition to driving this vehicle to the Central Coast, I also camped in it. Safety features: At first I couldn't decide if I liked the vibrations coming from the seat and the vehicle taking control of the steering wheel. We had our first fight, like any good relationship. I learned to signal in advance of lane changes and thus we fought less over the wheel. Fun insightful features: Automatic windshield wiper's, automatic highbeam headlights, Phone interface, USB ports everywhere, amazing sound system, great LED lights, effective and efficient climate control and factory window tint. When I rolled out my air mattress and sleeping bag, it seemed like I had a USB for my phones and 110v for my computer, several spots to put my canteen. Everything that I needed... It had all been thought-out and placed exactly where I needed it. Power and handling: In a word; impressive. This full-size SUV has always been a responsive powertrain package. It was a pleasure to have such power capability mixed with a tight handling ride. Without completely incriminating myself, my rate of travel was closer to three digits than it was two. This truck handled the curves some serious water and wind. I had complete control of the vehicle at all times. The handling and responsiveness is impressive. The overdrive 'trailer' switch was clutch in the mountains and curves, allowing the truck to shift down when not accelerating eliminating the need for breaking. Finally, I was able to drive almost 400 miles on a single tank of gas, I never stopped between point A and B. In conclusion. This truck is a total beast, you guys are doing a great job. I absolutely loved my time with that Tahoe and look forward to future GM adventures. Love, Some guy in California.
