I love Clay n Latte, sure this location gets a little busy on the weekend but nothing is better then putting on my head phones and painting. The girls who work here are all really friendly - Mia and Paige are super sweet - and are always ready to help with ideas and colors. There is a sitting fee but it covers all your supplies, clean up and using their kiln. There are lots of cute cheap pieces and if you are looking to do something bigger they have plenty of selection. It seems like every time I go there are new pieces plus ones to go with the current holiday. I highly recommend this location for a simple hang out or a party. Clay 'N Latte was a very confusing place. I bought the groupon: $20 for $40 worth of pottery and studio fees for two people. I, personally, had read this as $40 to cover pottery, as well as covering studio fees for two people. When I went there with my boyfriend however, we were informed that it was only $40 for the whole visit. So studio fees are $8 per person, which only leaves $24 for the actual pottery. And here where their selection becomes a problems, because the vast majority of it is small childish figurines. Lots of little unicorns, charm boxes, cats. There are a few kitchen items such as small bowls and mugs, but everything was over $12 dollars. To make anything useful, you are guaranteed to spend an additional $20 on your trip. They had a few vases and such, but everything there was really small. When we saw this, my boyfriend offered to just sit and watch me paint, so that we could reduce the studio fees and apply more to the actual pottery. The girl working there said that we HAD to charge two studio fees, even if I came alone. Overall she was not very attentive or helpful. We walked in and were afraid that they weren't even open because she was in the back, alone. Only after we browsed around for a while and called out did she even come up. Then after informing us of our options, went to the back again. Groupon will not refund my purchase, so I am just going to gift it to someone with kids. This place looks like it would be a lot of fun for small girls (nothing really masculine to paint) as long as you can find someone to help you. Also, very confusing is the "Latte" part of the name. Maybe they are open to you bringing food or drinks in? I don't remember anything of the sort being offered. Overall, service was not impressive, barely any selection for adults to paint, and nothing really appealing to this place. If you are considering buying the groupon - please be warned that personally, this was a very misleading and disappointing purchase. read more

What a great experience. I don't tend to review businesses, but I was so pleasantly surprised by our visit a few weeks ago that I felt I needed to. We walked in, I didn't quite know what to make and felt uncomfortable as an adult in a clay painting studio, but Dylan made the whole experience so enjoyable. (For all 3 hours!) For children and adults alike, it seems all you need is a bit of creativity, and soon hours go by. We had a blast, and my mug turned out fantastic. They actually touch up your piece if there are any bubbles formed during the baking process, and the price is totally fair for no limit for your time of using the studio. read more

Very rude staff. Came to have a pleasant creative time with my 2 nieces but it was like having a dictator talk down to you. We tried the glass tile and the late 20 or early 30 something manager said they didn't have enough tiles so one of us had to pick a black tile. They didn't even have white tiles. Any options even for the artistic portion that were requested were shot down and we were rushed to make choices. She kept abruptly checking in on us but it was like talking to a TSA agent who was power tripping. Any questions were met with the same daft aggressive tone whether talking to children or adults. Mind you she was 20 years my junior. WOW, part of me wonders if this is how people of this age do things, ie be condescending and have no customer service skills. That cost over $100 for 3 tiles and definitely no tip was given! Sad that during Covid we tried to support a small business but it was very unpleasant. Also a bummer that the beautiful things we created are now tainted with bad memories. The only point of coming here is to have a good memory but they don't provide that. Recently went in to make holiday gifts for my friends and family. I see all these cute things on the internet all the time and know I could make them myself because when I was young I used to do ceramics. Was not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be and a far better gift since it was hand made!!!! I did mess up one of my pieces pretty bad tho but the owner was super quick and very happy to help me fix it and I couldn't be happier!!! I love love love the way everything turned out and can't wait for Christmas!!! Also, while I was in there I noticed that they have this thing called a "succulent bar" which is like a clean place to make your own succulent arrangement in a variety of pots. My daughter has been here twice with her grandmother and is always begging to go back. My mom said that there was a sweet girl named camry who was very helpful and great with the child and adult customers alike. When I have a free day I will have to stop in some time! My stepdaughter came out to visit and we stopped in and painted a few pieces. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. They answered our questions and gave us suggestions. When I realized that my stepdaughter would be flying back home before the pieces would be finished, they put a "rush" on the firing to finish them in time. Earlier today, on 4th of July, we happened to drive by and see their door open. Although they weren't open for business, they found our pieces and allowed us to pick them up. This is my second experience with this cute little shop. Both times I've encountered nothing been fun and smiles. Customer Service - Good customer service can diffuse even the worst of situations. Bad customer service means you don't care about your customers or your business. I discovered neither the employees or the owner care about their customers or business. My first time here was for a friends birthday party. All of us are adults and we wanted to have a bit of fun being creative. Nick, who was working on this day, called to confirm 1hr before our reservation, to ensure we would still be making our reservation. Later, I realized why he called one hour before. There was a huge parade in the city, with some streets closed off, making parking a nightmare. Do you think Nick had the courtesy to advise us? Of course he didn't. I did politely ask Nick why, as a courtesy, he did not inform us of the parade - Nick very rudely replied it was not his responsibility to advise us. On top of being rude, Nick is also a liar. When I continued to ask questions about when he found out about the parade, his first response was that he didn't know until he saw people lining up in front of the business. Then it changed to he didn't find out until 2 hours before the parade started. Then it changed to him finding out 2 weeks ago. Well, which is it? If there is one thing I cannot abide by is rudeness and liars. Nick is both. And the owner obviously condones this type of behavior. We asked Nick to call his manager/business owner to speak with her, as his rudeness and ineptness were uncalled for, but the manager/business owner declined to speak us. Aside from being rude and being a liar, Nick never bothered to help us get started once everyone arrived. He was too busy watching the parade and never once offered to help us get started, never offered extra brushes, pretty much did nothing at all (I thought there was also supposed to be coffee, after all, this place is called Clay and Latte. One sad, lonely Keurig was by the register, which Nick never bothered to mention was there and no one saw until it was time to pay) . I feel like this business was so hard up for money, they intentionally withheld the parade information because otherwise, how were they going to make money? The place was dead. Yeah, you bamboozled me out of my money, but I will never go back to this place and I will never recommend this place either. When you have such a rude employee and an owner who supports this behavior, there is no reason to return. Stay away from this place, it's expensive, has rude, unhelpful employees, and an owner that doesn't care as long as she gets your money. read more

I am very disappointed on the poor service it has become over the years. I've come here quite a bit over the years and decided to have a kid themed adult birthday here for the nostalgia. I am sad to say I will never come here again after the service my friends and I received: 1. The store called an HOUR before the reservations to confirm. (Not a day before like most places.) What Nick also failed to mention that there was a Parade going through downtown that day so needless to say, by the time we found parking (I had to park at Lowes (3 street lights away) and walk!) we were 45 minutes into our reservation. I called Nick and he didn't seem to care because he mentioned that there were no reservations after us (I wonder why...) 2. Eventually we all came (ten people). Rather than helping us, he and his co-worker were watching the parade! I had to get his attention to help us. I asked for a discount for all the unnecessary stress and his reply was "Sorry but it's not our responsibility to inform you because we just found out 2 days ago." But you called me an hour before the reservation! You can see the parade outside your store front! We asked to speak to his supervisor and the owner was in Mexico! She left teenagers in charge of her store. There was no one else to help us with our grievance since he said he could do nothing in his power. We told him to keep calling (no reception in Mexico) and we would continue. I didn't want this to ruin my birthday. 3. The entire time, the service was poor. We had to keep chasing after them to get us more paint. Eventually, we gave up and got it ourselves. I also had to ask them to bring plates for the cake and they did but not the utensils. So I had to ask for the utensils and they did but not the knife to cut it. So I had to ask again for knife! AND, I had to ask them to clear the table so we could eat cake. Absurd! How did they do this with actual children?! 4. The owner finally called the store and of course Nick did not let her speak to us. He only told his side of the story and she agreed to it of course leaving out all the parts where he did not do a good job. The response was a $5 coupon for when we return. There is no returning to this place! My dear friends came down from all over California including Nor Cal, Orange County, South San Diego, everywhere but North County. I told him we would like to use it now, not later. He said no, that's what she said. We told him to call again but of course, he could not get a hold of her because there was no reception... 5. A week later, I came to pick up the pieces and I got Nick again who stated that all the pieces were in the bag and wrapped. I drove home and when I checked two were missing! I called and all I got was a "I'm so sorry. Come pick them up." Sorry does not give me the time and gas lost in driving back all the way here again! Nick saw me and avoided me rather than owning up to his error, again. A young lady helped me instead and offered me a $10 coupon when I told her how upset I was. I told her I would never be coming back here again. 6. I also want to mention that the pricing has gone up considerably since I have been there. They mentioned on the phone that the party is $20/person. So $8 dollars for paint and $12 for the pieces. Nothing was really in that price range. I used to get a mug for $10. Now the same ones were $18. It was disappointing to see my friends all paint tiny pieces and all above $12. I got a very small bowl for $14 that will be for my cat due to the size. By far the worse service I have ever had till the very end! If you care about your business, you should not have children running it. If you're looking to make birthday plans, please seek elsewhere. read more

The employees are extremely helpful and kind (especially Camrie!), and you can tell they truly care about your experience and helping to make your piece come out perfect for you. Although more than 5 tables had multiple people painting at them and were continually needing assistance with something, Nick was able to help me with my newborn clay hand and foot prints. It took a couple of tries because doing this with a newborn is a challenge and I'm glad he was a perfectionist because I said that the 2nd try we did was ok even though the hand was a bit slanted and the fingers bunched in the print. I recently had my daughter's 6th birthday party at Clay n Latte with 12 little girls... it was FABULOUS! The party lasted 1.5 hours which was perfect for painting an object, opening gifts and eating cake. The staff couldn't of been more helpful in directing the little girls and offering suggestions. They kept my cake/drinks in their fridge and the completely cleaned it all up after serving. The price couldn't be beat either.. very reasonable for the experience. Another customer here who bought and was mislead by the Groupon. Bought and went with my daughter, first and last time. Place was busy and service was ok. Deal wasn't really much of a deal as you pay for two studio fees (so $14.00), then pay $20.00 for the Groupon, so far you are out $34.00 and then get a $40.00 credit applied, so a whopping savings of $6.00 on the already overpriced ceramics pieces. I see the owner has responded to some of these complaints but as you can see...the wording is not clear. Most places that issues deals or coupons do so in the following format: you pay X - you get Y. Apparently, the format for this "deal" is: you pay X, get Y, and pay Z. So not only has Groupon and Clay and Latte lost a customer, I will be sure to spread the word. My wife and I decided to come here and paint 2 cups. It was our first time there and we not that good at painting but we enjoyed every second. Nick showed us around, explain the process, and helped us pick the paint and brush to use. We feel love this place and the vibe. I kinda felt like I was back in art class. My husband and I recently moved to Vista and were curious about what the city had to offer for an out of the ordinary date night. We stumbled upon Clay 'N Latte through a friend, and decided to stop in. We instantly felt welcomed by the friendly girls working that night, and started browsing through the different ceramic pieces they had available. While the pieces are not necessarily inexpensive, they are not over priced, and the quality is definitely there. There is something for everybody and every budget, and the experience is worth every penny. My husband and I had a lovely night and made some amazing memories painting a spoon rest for our new home. As others have mentioned, you can't get a latte from Clay 'N Latte...but let's be honest here, is that really what you're going into the establishment for? If that is your biggest problem with Clay 'N Latte, then walk down the street to Starbucks. Took my 81 year old mom and 13 year old son here in Sunday afternoon - Cody greeted and welcomed us and set us up on a table with complimentary coffee and tea - we picked out the mugs and plates we wanted to paint - and spend the next hour - painting comparing and laughing with other families and Cody and other lovely staff member- can't wait to see the pieces of art fired when we pick them up - I came here about 4 years ago and my eighteen year old drinks daily out of the cup he made back then ... I have been coming to Clay n' Latte for several years, and I have consistently been impressed. Reading through these negative reviews was extremely confusing to me, as I have never received less than stellar service. As for pricing, you really do get what you pay for! These are not dollar store ceramics, and you get to customize them however you want. Many of the plates my children have made here are so special to me as they grow, I could never begin to put a price on them. These are things I know I will have for many years to come. A friend of mine joined us once and painted a small tile (which the worker told us you do not have to pay the $8 studio fee on) and her bill was less than ten dollars! If you feel like being cheap, go to the beach. The staff is always extremely helpful when I come in, and always offer me all the help I need on my projects. If they have other work to be doing they have always let me know what they were doing, but put my project first. That's customer service you rarely find. And the Lattes, well, there are none (there is a Starbucks right up the street, big surprise), but that is not why I bring my two young daughters in. I bring them to paint something special that will be a memory for years and years, and also a fun family time out. All in all, it's a great local place with a fun atmosphere. Yelp shows that they close in 20 minutes, as does the sign posted on the door, yet here I sit in front of the store with locked doors unable to pickup my sons work. But don't worry, the gal inside the store that answered the phone explained how they can close early whenever they want but she would be happy to get us the stuff we paid for in 10 minutes. It would have taken less than 2 minutes to meet us around back, but the lady "counting the register" felt it was better to make us wait while she finished sweeping, and met us with with purse and bag of garbage in hand. Again all before 8 pm. I understand that posted policies might say you can close early, but for an experiential location shouldn't customer service dictate time usage? The wife and I have had a date nigjt here and had fun, and our boy came here for a week for a summer camp and had fun as well. Both times I thought the price was high for what you get and making clients wait at an empty store during posted open hours is the last straw. as a former employee and long time customer i have some tips and observations for you. first off this is a local family business, not a big chain. She employs a lot of local youth, starving artist and genuinely fun and knowledgable people. there are many specials. mondays, weds and fridays to make it affordable... just ask. the Studio fee covers every supply you need, paint, brushes, stamps, stencils, silkscreen, food safe glazing and firing and any help the staff can offer. this fee is good for the ENTIRE day. you can start your work, leave to watch a movie, get lunch etc and come back later if you wish. always ask the staff if you arent sure how or what you want to achieve, you would be amazed at all the tools n tricks they know. and if they dont the owner herself is always avail on their speed dial to get the answers. remember, your peice is your art, while they love to help, its not their job (or yours) to make it perfect. what fun is that?! it can be as simple or complicated as you choose and your skill level allows. CHILDREN. they love em! let em get messy it washes off, let it be imperfect, let it be theirs. you will both have a better experience! and although most kids want to paint figurines, the better bet is to choose a small plate. theres less stress and pressure to make it 'perfect'. its easier for them to do handprints, polka dots, stamps etc. especially if your child doesnt have a long attention span. most importantly just let em do it themselves, as a mom whos daughter was raised painting here, trust me ... the best way to avoid antsy meltdowns is to just them have fun with it. there is no age limit and kids do fantastic here! read more

My 9 year old niece and I went there today for the first time. We were like "a kid in a candy store". There were so many choices of things to make! We painted 2 bowls, a hamster and a soap dispenser.
