I've been to Clay-n-Latte before, mostly with my niece's. I went last week with my youngest niece (9yrs old), who remembers well coming to Clay-n-Latte before (maybe 5-6 yrs old then). She remembers having fun selecting and painting her project and was excited to do it again. There was nothing I wanted to paint myself so my niece painted alone. She choose her kitty after carefully looking at every piece that caught her interest. The employee (I forgot her name) was extremely helpful and very patient explaining to my niece what she will be doing and to make sure to ask for help if she had questions. We were lucky because we were the only ones there for about 45 mins before other crafters arrived. I've been here when it has been extremely busy (summer break). I will not go on the weekends. And I have been there when younger employees were working, some helpful one time and another time, not helpful. This time around the help was great. I think the pieces are on the pricey side, so if you can find a coupon for your sitting fee that may help you out a little, but just a little. But, I think it is fun for a child to experience this place at least once. I agree with one of the Yelper's, not good for little, little ones, I think 2yrs and under is too young, maybe even 3yrs old. You are allowed to bring outside food in. Really great pottery painting place that exceeded my expectations. Came in on a weekend fearing it would be crowded but even despite the steady business it was a lovely atmosphere. They had a great selection of pieces to paint and many types of tools and colors -- Probably the most of any location I've been to. First Impressions: I have driven past this location 100 times, and I finally made my way in. It is super cute, but I do advise that there are no lattes available for purchase! I also note that if you are picky about music this is a good place to bring your headphones, since many of us like to art in silence. The Selection: This is a good spot to bring anyone of any age. There are items to choose that cover someone from any age. There were families there with kids, an older group of women, and couples. This is definitely something that everyone can do. The Fees: I saw some reviews that complained about the pricing, but I found it to be really reasonable. The staff provided you with as much paint as you wanted, and they provide treatment of the product as well. If you wanted to get something bigger, you can come back and just pay the studio fee. I think it is a great value for what you are getting. Overall: While of course this isn't something that I would do all the time, it was a wonderful treat and I really liked supporting a local, small business. I came her with my 6 month old baby and 6 yr old daughter. We made little impressions in paint of my baby's feet as a keepsake like we had done with my older daughter. I went to go pick up my baby's keepsake feet impressions that weren't cheap to make BTW and was told they got rid of it. No one told me about the need to pick up items after 60 days when we made these. Since this location is kinda far from where we live I waited till we were in the area to pick the stuff up. In the past I came here 4/5 months after painting to pick up stuff and it was there. Apparantly now they donate everything to a business where you go to break stuff. So they donated my baby's foot prints for someone to rage break. I'm totally heartbroken. Clay n latte will text you for business promotions but they won't txt you that your stuff needs to be picked up before it's sent off to be broken! Thanks a lot guys. read more

My daughter and I went here and had a nice time making some gifts for some family, we were told the items were ready at a certain day and time. When I came to pick them up they were not ready and this was crucial to plans I had made to travel and give these gifts to family that is out of town. When the front desk girl heard about this she was not empathetic or apologetic for the mistake made on their part. Instead she told me rudely to relax and proceeded to be less than friendly in the rest of the interaction. I could not even reach a manager or any contact information for anyone in charge. Where was the coffee in this place? I saw none. I am told a sad little geriatric Keurig machine lived on the cashwrap? We were not told that. This place is where the hopeful, botoxed applicants for the Real Housewives franchise go to placate their spoiled hell spawn. It is run by inept pre-teens with no business acumen or understanding of customer service. I drove here from north Orange County for a birthday event. We got a phone call one hour before our scheduled time to confirm that we would still be coming. Shouldn't employees phone 24-72 hours before a booked event to confirm the details? Certainly, for a party of our size (10 people!) booking out space for that long (3 hours!) it should be done well in advance. Mistake #1 There was some kind of winter wonderland holiday parade taking place, unbeknownst to our party. We drove in circles for over an hour and a half, looking for parking. Shouldn't the aforementioned phone call have mentioned something, ANYTHING, about this?? Some of us finally arrived 90 minutes after the scheduled time. Some arrived even later. Mistake #2. The inept pre-teen who "helped" us was also the one who phoned us one hour prior. When we asked why he did not mention anything about the parade, just as a heads-up, to let us know that we should probably try to arrive early, he was very snarky, and brushed it off. He said that it was something that should be done out of courtesy, but he was under *no obligation* to mention anything. WHAT? Lack of professionalism and rudeness won't get you anywhere. Mistake #3. When we asked to speak to the boss/owner/superior, he said she was in Mexico. We said we would wait until he got her on the phone. In the meanwhile, he claimed we were "welcome" to pick out our pieces and start the process. WHAT? We were there for a group event. Why would we start this painting party when not all of us were there? In the meanwhile, the pre-teen staff were watching the parade rather than trying to phone/text/email/tweet/SOS/smoke signal their boss. Mistake #4. All of us finally arrived, and we picked out pieces, chose paint, and got started. I don't know how the owner runs their business, but the markup on these clay pieces is atrocious. You know some poor sweatshop folks are being paid pittances to produce mini vases smaller than a '90s style pager, when the markup is 79392748724%. For the painting party, we could pick a piece that cost less than $12, and the $8 would cover the painting fee. Some confusion and silence about that. We were not told about that when we started. I paid nearly $20 for the tinest clay thing ever. What are you doing with that money, owner person? Seriously? Gallivanting in Mexico? Train your staff better. Mistake #5. My friend went back a week later to pick up our finished stuff. She was met by the same inept pre-teen from the week before who clearly felt some guilt/remorse over what happened. He tried to offer $5 certificates to placate her. 10 of those would have totaled to a $50 certificate. Obviously, she did not take that offer. It is the principle of the matter. Our stuff was packaged nicely and placed in a bag. She was assured that all of them were in there. She went home and found 2 were missing. She had to drive back, ask ANOTHER sales associate where they were, and that person found them in the back storage area. Seriously? Mistake #6 Bottom line? The owners need to invest in some better training for staff. HR resources would be useful. Training in customer service would be useful. Clarity about policies would be useful. Basic lessons in manners and courteous professionalism would be useful. They have cute, overpriced crap, and a good selection of paint. And, they provided plates and utensils for our cake cutting, after being reminded of it 4 times. But, no coffee and shitty, rude children to run your business? Not cool. Never coming back! read more

I told the employee that I did not want to paint a piece but I did want to help my son...She stated that if I painted too much, I would be charged the $8 fee. We did a small get together for my daughter's bday with just our family of 4 and another close family of 4 joined us. They took extreme precautions when it came to covid measures- it was way overboard. (Head temps, masks, don't touch anything unless you intend to buy or else tell someone so they can sanitize the item after you touch it). As far as the clay part goes- there was lots of options to choose from, I liked how the paints and brushes and supplies are all provided, and they keep the items to bake in the kiln. The items were overpriced though (we ended up spending $200 between our 2 families) And the check out process took forever. I went to Clay 'N Latte quite a few times for birthday parties when I was younger and always enjoyed creating my own work of art and then picking it up a week later, freshly fired and shiny. For Mother's Day this year, my mum reserved herself, my sister and I a spot. The deal was that all mom's could paint without paying the studio fee ($8 value), got a flower and chocolate. The idea was really cute, and executed simply by snipping a single daisy off a bunch when each mother arrived, wishing them a happy Mother's Day and indicating where the bowl of Halloween fun-size candy was. I was expecting the moms to be able to select a chocolate from a Whitman's sampler box, or at least something a little fancier than Halloween candy in a bowl. The idea was sweet, though. I selected a butter dish ($20 + my $8 studio fee) to paint, while my mum and sister chose coffee mugs ($10 each). The price seemed fair and we certainly got our money's worth, painting for a solid 5 hours. Being a group of artists, we perfected every brush stroke until it was just "perfect". The staff was very friendly and helpful, giving us a run down of how everything worked, keeping our paint replenished and helpful tips on how to achieve the best finished product. These employees seriously have the tools you need to make your piece come out as you want it to! Just ask! After talking to her, I started to understand the reason behind the prices of the items and the studio fees. Apparently different pieces are manufactured in different places. The harder they are to make the more they charge. The kilns themselves cost $200 to run once and can only fit so much. One bottle of paint costs $10! Talk about a costly buisness to run. I brought my grandson here today for the first time thinking I was going to have Becky Maiefski for the first 15 minutes to explain, show us around and get us set up and that didn't happen, I don't even know who Becky Maiefski is, she never showed up. The gal that helped us asked if we've been there before and I told her no, she didn't explain anything we had to hear the other gals explain the procedure and how to do things. I really wanted to have an experience with my grandson and we didn't. It's a bummer cause we won't do it again at this store. Let me just say, the gal that helped us was great, she seemed to be running the store by herself and obviously couldn't be attentive. I say Shame on the store for not having enough workers on the schedule seeing as how you've gotta make an appointment to go there. I didn't know Becky was the owner first off, second why send MULTIPLE emails that my appointment is with Becky if it really isn't? Being a Vista Local, I want this place to succeed and to make our city better. It just does not seem to try! A group of us from work thought it would be fun to get together for a work party one night at this adorable ceramics cafe. We thought we could then display our creation at the shop, and send all of our customers over to get create their own goodies from Clay 'N Latte. Meghan answered, was super nice, said she would find out about doing some group rate for our 8 ladies. Great! Series of phone calls ensued - final word from the owner being that they would have to charge us each $8 to paint our names on the two vases that we were planning to create. That would have totaled over $125 for two vases. Perhaps more if the charge to fire it. We decided to go bowling instead. Even with lots of warm conversation from Meghan, the owner's lack of concern, and lack of a thoughtful phone call to tell us why he/she is so strict with their $8/person policy did not leave us feeling "fired up"... read more

Bummer because my friend and I were really looking forward to bringing our kids and having a nice little art activity yesterday morning. Lots of clay. Very, very little latte. Go to Starbucks before you go. If you come with your child, they are charged a $6 studio fee. If you help your child paint or you paint your own item, you get charged an $8 studio fee. The items range in price. We selected a medium sized plate for $13 and my friend selected a mug for $16. Pricey. Getting set up required quite a bit of explaining that our kids could not sit well through. After sponging our pieces with water, we had to go pick the paints. Another long winded explanation that was difficult for the kids who just wanted to paint! Paying took the longest and I have no reasonable explanation for that. I do know, however, that it was painfully slow. By the time was started painting, the kids were so excited. That was the best part - watching them go crazy with the colors and seeing them so happy with the paintbrush. It was the best 5 minutes of the day. After that, the kids were over it and so were we. Five minutes of bliss for $20 = not worth it. With all due respect, our kids are around 2 years old and I know now that I would not recommend bringing small children to Clay 'N Latte. The merchandise shelves are placed very low and eager young hands belonging to curious young children want to touch and shake and throw. Anyways my husband and I just moved here and thought wed try this place out as a fun date night. we painted 3 things so the total with studio fees was $50(which gets pricey but a one time thing is fine with me) I'd definitely go back, the staff was really nice and helpful. Great music accompanied a great environment to let out a beautifully painted mug with the help of a very friendly staff. Complimentary coffees allowed my friend and I to have our last jolt of energy to put on the finishing touches on our mugs. Nirvana to Run DMZ and everything in between were great music to inspire my beautifully painted mug. I had a set idea of how I wanted my mug to look in the end and they helped me achieve that beautifully. They have many other ceramic items to choose from including coffee mugs, plates, bowls, dog bowls and ornaments. I would say very fair prices on the ceramic items as well. I have been meaning to write this for a while. I always have a blast when I come here. I have brought children and adults. The lighting is bright and the room is always clean and cheerful. This place has a studio fee for every time you come. You only pay half the fee when you are working on a continued project. I find their staff friendly and helpful. They are happy to give painting advice. They prefer to pour paint and get items for you. While this is not important to me, this place's name is deceiving. The good news is that if you really want coffee with your clay, Starbucks is right down the street. They usually finish 'firing' the pottery with in a week. I have left my pieces there up to 6 weeks and they still hadn't thrown them away. I want to mention they have a glass mosaic/bead making option. I have not tried this yet. My friend made a necklace and it turned out wonderful. Another thing to mention is that they look like they organize a lot of fun events. In all honesty, I go here because I like to paint ceramics and it is the closest ceramics place to my house. Moral of the Story: expect a studio fee each time you go, bright and cheerful work area, staff likes getting things for you, go to Starbucks down the street if you want coffee. Edit: In coming here, I have learned a couple things from their friendly staff. 1) They have a non-compete clause in their lease in terms of coffee sales. 2) They have a Keurig. Each person gets a free cup. 3) I forgot to mention they have daily deals for family and military Still, only thing that gets me is the studio fee for every time I come. Granted, I try to consider the value of of my project. On average, I spend about 10-15 hours on a project over the span of three days, which, averages out to roughly $5 a day, not including your ceramic piece. You can spend more at the movie theater. Tip for parents with kids 7 and under. You will not need to paint a piece, your kid will probably need your help. I love Clay n Latte, sure this location gets a little busy on the weekend but nothing is better then putting on my head phones and painting. The girls who work here are all really friendly - Mia and Paige are super sweet - and are always ready to help with ideas and colors. There is a sitting fee but it covers all your supplies, clean up and using their kiln. There are lots of cute cheap pieces and if you are looking to do something bigger they have plenty of selection. It seems like every time I go there are new pieces plus ones to go with the current holiday. I highly recommend this location for a simple hang out or a party.
