I waited an hour and a half while every one that came in after us got their food and had even finished their food!!! I spoke my upset to the owner who said "I'll take care of you". We were charged full price without any compensation. I appreciate the waiter of another section for getting us our food by the end of 2 hours! I had three hungry children and a friend I invited. I regret the lack of care or consideration after previous business, reviews, and recomendations. I take responsibility and compensate mistakes in business as a former small business owner and business woman. This is Americanize Vietnamese Restaurant. Just saying. But they have delicious and unique dishes. I came there for lunch. The spicy beef broccoli is not spicy but delicious. They use satay sauce mix. They clay pot beef and rice is good too, but it's too sweet for me. I add Sriracha to enhance the taste. The service is great. Their unsweetened peach tea is good. Why I give 4 stars? The Vietnamese spring roll that comes with lunch is terrible, and the sauce is just a run down peanut butter with water. Too watery. The pho isn't authentic. But the lunch special prices are good. Some dishes like Stan's special clay pot and lemongrass chicken are on the spicy side. Bubble tea smoothies: You can see the powders for the different bubble teas behind the counter. The bubbles aren't that good; since, they've lost their chewy-ness. The teas are on the sweet side. The chrysanthemum tea (it's warm and comes in a tea pot and I think they add condensed milk. Usually Asian restaurants don't add milk and sugar to chrysanthemum tea) is pretty good though. And I really like the atmosphere and sitting on the ground. But I don't think I'll be back for the food. read more

This is the first time I've ever given a business owner a bad review. But Terrible owner. Terrible food. I specifically asked the waiter if the soup I wanted was spicy and he said no, so I ordered it. It was so spicy I couldn't even eat a 2nd bite. So I ordered the grilled pork and egg rolls vermicelli, thinking they couldn't possibly mess that up. Well, they did. The vermicelli came out with egg rolls only, no grilled pork, and no fish sauce. Everyone knows you don't eat Vietnamese vermicelli without fish sauce. And the vermicelli was completely soggy. And it took them 30 minutes to bring it out. By then, everyone has finished eating at my table. To add to the terrible experience, they made me pay for both dishes. The owner said it was my fault I didn't read the menu that the dish was spicy so I had to pay for it. He didn't even apologize. So I paid $30 for two dishes that I didn't eat. Let's just say I will never ever come back here and will not recommend it to anyone. I didn't have the option to give it ZERO STAR or I would have. read more

The food is pretty okay here. The service is always hit or miss. Half the time they are on top of everything and moving quickly, the other have you wait 10 minutes for water. I usually get the pho or the pineapple fried rice. I doubt this quality would allow them to last long in a city like Dallas where they have more competition but it's right on par in Waco. read more

My wife and I dined a few days ago at this restaurant. I ordered the Pineapple Fired Rice with Chicken, which was extremely bland, was a little too salty, and only had 3 tiny pieces of pineapple. So it was pretty bland. My wife ordered a dish that was supposed to be creamy (but wasn't) but was so salty she couldn't finish it. My wife didn't want to wait for them to remake the dish. So as we were leaving, the waitress said the kitchen had remade it so we took it with us. However, when we got home, they had added several different meats in the mixture. But my wife had ordered the original dish with no meats. The only that was excellent were the spring rolls. read more

It is no joke when I say that the best items in The Clay Pot are its wonderful varieties in sodas and alcohol. And sometimes tea. The pho broth is a disgrace to the Vietnamese dish. Watered down and lacking in flavor, I seriously thought that they served me a small bowl of hot water when I ordered the pho broth appetizer. The spring rolls taste like the hands that made them, which is not a compliment. There was an amalgam of something shredded along with the vermicelli inside, which both perplexed and veered me away from them altogether after the first bite. After having the clay pot for a few times, the sauce began to irritate me along with the dish: there was such a small portion of protein and veggies to compare to the rice, and the sauce was overwhelming everything. I stopped going to the Clay Pot for a year afterwards and came back recently, because I clearly did not learn my lesson. I waited for well over 45 minutes for my to-go food. No biggie, since the whole place was packed; my friend and I went to grab some coffee and came back to retrieve our food items. I came home, eager to dig into a classic Chinese dish, sesame chicken and white rice, but damn. The chicken is the microwaveable/frozen breaded chicken that you find in a grocery store, and there was absolutely no crunch to it. Granted, it's "Asian fusion", but to use microwaveable chicken? On top of that, the dreadful clay pot sauce that I grew sick of in previous encounters came back to haunt me like a terrible zit: the entree was drenched in sauce that was waaaaaaay too overwhelming to really enjoy the dish, and now my stomach is regretting my choice even more than I did. Never again, stomach, never again. The Clay Pot may look like a wonderful fantasy world when you first step in, but for a person who has tasted authentic Vietnamese food, it's just a gaudy, dimly-lit farce that is able to reel in those who have never experienced the true pleasures of pho with its faint paper lanterns, tasteless Asian decor, and overpriced, half-assed food. read more

I am kind of a Pho-natic and try just about every Vietnamese restaurant I run across. I was in Waco for a meeting and yelped this Clay Pot. The reviews were not what I hoped for but I decided to try it anyway. I should have listened to the reviews. There are several things lacking in the Clay Pot but the main thing is the food quality. I have eaten Pho at more places then I can remember and I have never been served Pho this way. Pho is supposed to be served with a side of fresh basil, cilantro, diced onions, jalapeños and lime. My bowl of soup came with none of this. Instead there was some slices of onion and chopped chives on the surface of the soup. Even the noodles were not Pho noodles. They were tiny flat noodles. My soup was way over salted to the point that I could barely eat it. My wife had pork fried rice and it was so salty, she could not eat it. The bottom line here is that this place does not know what Pho is and their primary spice is salt. I did not see a single Vietnamese person or even an oriental looking person working at this restaurant. The service was extremely slow. It took over 10 minutes before they came to take our drink order. The workers seemed to have no interest in providing good service but were sure happy to actually ask for a tip. The parking lot is tiny and cramped. If you drive a big truck you may not be able to get in and out of here. read more

We tried placing an order online and it showed unavailable. We tried placing an order by phone and no one answered after 6 calls. We then decided to come in and eat instead and found three employees sitting down on their phones. I completely would have understood if the place was busy but that was not the case. My husband ordered a bubble tea with tapioca and he had to remind an employee that he ordered one after we got our food because the employee that took the order was sitting at a reserved table on her phone. After he reserved his drink it was incorrect, when he asked the employee she said "oh that's all we have". Throughout our whole meal the same employees remained seated and socializing with a few cooks. Never checked on us, despite being the only people in the restaurant, I guess that's why they ask for the tip while you pay and not after the service. Definitely an unpleasant visit!! read more

We're visiting from California. We have been eating in Vietnamese Restaurants for years. Clay Pot Restaurant is one of the best that we've eaten in. The menu is fantastic. Perhaps the best Spring Rolls and Pho that I've eaten. Stan's Clay Pot with Shrimp was prepared with delicious shrimp, tasty rice and perfectly prepared vegetables. We went on a Friday night at prime time and got seated right away. We finished off the dinner with their homemade strawberry cupcake and it was perfect ! We both had a great meal for under $40. I learned a valuable lesson the other day. On the way back from my weekly Wednesday trip to Mexia, I decided to stop here, because, I love Vietnamese food. My lesson was this: One should probably not consume Vietnamese coffee at 6:30 in the evening if they have a day job. I did wind up back in Georgetown alert. 5 hours later I was still alert, and burning through pages of my most recent read. The food-good and fresh. I ordered some tofu spring rolls and they were wonderful, and small. Usually springs rolls are fairly large, but these were about as big as my index finger. I found that pleasing for some reason, perhaps because I have never seen rolls this size,. Next was the old reliable, Pho. I love pho, and this did not disappoint. The broth was a little darker than usual, and very flavorful. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the meat was more tender than I am used to. In other words, it was a winner. Now I have something to look forward to every Wednesday after work. read more

The food is very bad. They used frozen vegetable mix and the chicken breast is frozen as well. The texture is soft and rubbery. There's nothing authentic about the food. The only investment they made are the clay pots. I ate with 4 other Asian girls from various country and none of us like what we order. I first came to eat here when I was still in college at Baylor. I would come occasionally with a study group to discuss upcoming assignments. Sometimes when I came in later at night, the owner would hand me a whole take-home box full of extra spring rolls for free! I like eating at the Clay Pot mostly because of the really low cost and the location. I can have a simple meal here for under $10 (including tip) if I order a single entree and a water. It's also easy to pull into from the I-35 feeder and then drive down the curb to get back onto S. 10th St. Sometimes the place is a little crowded, but the atmosphere is very cozy and you can even sit at a floor table for a more authentic Asian cuisine experience. The servers, especially the owner, are very friendly and attentive, sometimes to a fault. However, the food is good and the service is really fast, so it's never hard to have a quick enjoyable lunch here. read more

Not sure why there were so many good reviews on this place. If you've ever had spring rolls or pho before you know this place is the McDonald's of Vietnamese restaurants. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the cupcakes were pretty good and the service was good. Real pho comes with bean sprouts and mint leaves to give it you own touch and real pho broth is Full of flavor not watery and bland. The spring rolls were tiny and mushy and super bland. This is probably the only pho place in Waco and that's the only reason I can think of why this place is even still open. read more

This went from a must-have to a never again. Ever since ownership changed, service has nosedived down. I have been going here since they opened, and the most recent visit has cemented my opinion. First off, was heading in with a party. They asked for a table while we were trying to find a parking spot (parking can be limited at times). We find our spot, and owner comes in and has my friend leave the table, saying he 'couldn't hold a table, since it was lunch' and gives it to the two people we held the door open for (there was no other wait, and we were a party of four). We get 'seated' on the floor tables. Normally, not a problem, but my friend is sitting there IN A KNEE BRACE and they decide this is a good idea. He's now politely grimacing while we order, and I feel horrible for him. After we order, that's when the show really starts - they completely forget my app, then they forget mine and my wife's entree (really great when I'm the one paying for the entire table.) I let them know about the app after it becomes obvious that everyone's got something but me, thinking it might be taking a bit longer for the entree, and I love their egg rolls, so I mention it to the waiter. One hour later, the three egg rolls show up. I power through them, since I have to go to work, throw the card at my wife, and run back to work late and hungry. I haven't been back. I've heard they've started skimping on the veg in the pho, and that's sad - it used to be a floral bouquet, and although not authentic, extremely flavorful. My, how times have changed. read more

Last Thursday my husband and I had lunch there. First, we ordered the shrimp and pork Spring Rolls. They were really good. I ordered the Pho with beef brisket. It was good, however, I would have enjoyed it more if it would have the fixings' on the side. My husband ordered the Vermicelli Bowl with pork. The noodles were so over cooked, they were MUSH. Horrible! I tasted it and told my husband I would send it back. He just picked the pork out of it. When the waiter asked how our meal was, we told him how bad the vermicelli bowl was. I hate to leave a bad review, I have been wanting to try the Clay Pot for awhile. I will say, the staff was very friendly, but you have to stand at the front and look at a large board of a menu and then order basically like you would take out. I came here to celebrate my partner and I's anniversary, I would have liked to sit down and look a menu, I found after ordering and paying I wanted tea but did not want to have to make another transaction. we ordered our food and sat down to wait. when our food came, our Pho was alright, but very bland. mostly just spicy but needed more salt or flavor? not like typical Pho I have had. also we got Sesame chicken special, which was literally no more then two frozen breaded chicken tenders cut up and tossed very quickly with the sauce. the sauce didn't even stick to it and it was very obvious it was a frozen chicken tender. I was really hoping this would be a spot we would want to revisit, but along with the stomach ache later that afternoon, I do not think we will be visiting this place again. read more

The names of places in this town consistently thrown me for a loop. I went here intending to do some pottery for my dime piece wife Linda B's "sunday funday", emphasis on the air quotes around funday, and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was not a pottery shop. Linda was not as thrilled as I was but none the less she was hungry and so was I. She ordered the curry because she loves steph and I got lemon grass chicken cause I'm spicy like that. Both dishes were delicious and recommended checking out the patio in the back for a more authentic feel. Be warned when we went back there there was an intense game of hide and seek taking place which was a little to real for my taste but to each there own. It's the best Vietnamese in Waco, and as a bonus they have a variety of pan-Asian favorites. We liked our chicken clay pot and pan fried noodles dishes. A number of dishes can be made with tofu, so they're vegetarian friendly. But also wallet friendly. The atmosphere is cozy, casual, dim, and quaint. They have chair and floor seating.
