I've been here a few times this summer and every time came back requesting Maja for pedicures and even got a shellac there. They use high quality products and it shows. The nail services come out great every time. The way the spa is decorated is beyond relaxing. Hanging terrariums, full ocean view, and a true beachy feel inside. Highly recommend. I'm typically anti shellac but with a work trip coming up and knowing that I'd be picking at my nails all week, I did it. Maja was meticulous and my nails were so perfect. I like my nails super short and wanted a French that looked natural. She had no problem and made them look amazing and natural! I am literally walking out of Clayhead Salon and Spa as I'm writing this. This salon is amazing. I called yesterday asking for a last minute blowout for a wedding I'm going to. They opened a half hour early for me since the wedding is earlier in the day. The owner is incredibly nice, as well as the receptionist. He did a GREAT job on my hair! His French bulldog is also amazing. The salon itself is wonderfully eclectic without trying too hard to be (it's not hipster either). An awesome Buddha and nautical theme which don't sound like they should go together, but he makes it work, and well. I HIGHLY recommend anybody on the island stopping by to visit them. Let me preface this by saying i would like to leave zero stars but that is not a yelp option. Myself and 9 of my family members have multiple stories to report about the LACK of professionalism and service for prepaid appointments from this salon. We booked appointments a year in advance to accommodate 13 people on the day of my cousins wedding but the stylist showed up an hour and a half late and did not even get through all of the paid for appointments. We were unable to get pictures before the wedding because of their tardiness! Multiple people even got their hair redone because of the lack of satisfaction with the job done. We have tried multiple times to get in touch with the salon to get refunded for the appointments that they did not get to but have never heard back. We left messages and voicemails all to no avail. We all, collectively, do NOT recommend anyone to go to this salon. If you do.. best of luck! read more

So, I initially was seeking a hairstylist on Block Island to do an updo for me for a wedding I was attending over the weekend. There was only a limited number of salons and stylists since the island is so small. I came across Clayhead Spa and a few others but ultimately choose to contact Clayhead due to the great reviews online. There were 9 weddings on the island that weekend and it worked out that since I was going early, I was lucky to get an appointment with Michael on Friday, at this point abandoning the idea of an updo. (No stylists were available on Saturday as they were all doing work for the weddings.) At this point, I was going for broke-cut and color, I would worry about the frizz tomorrow. The spa is beautiful and I cannot even begin to describe the view from the chair. Michael introduced himself and I was immediately putty, I gave him carte blanche.....do what you think is going to make me look like me look my best. And he did not disappoint!! I got a great cut and the color is amazing, I got a ton of compliments when I got to wedding and especially when I got home. The cut is versatile and so easy to manage. I am typically completely inept when it comes to styling my own hair, but this I can do easily (in spite of the fact that I told Michael I was going to kidnap him and have him do my hair every day.) You know that just out of the salon feeling, girls, I was walking down Water Street like a celebrity. And then there was Michael's French bulldog, Dorothy Pickles, who hangs around the salon. She was the cutest damn dog (and I am a cat person), maybe it was because she was so small and cuddly and definitely loved sitting on your lap. She sat with me the whole time my color was processing; it was like pet therapy. I thoroughly recommend seeking Michael out whenever you are on Block Island. And in the winter, he heads to NYC and lucky for me, I live in CT, so I will be making the trips down to see him there. P.S. Since Michael also did an extra process of glazing my hair following the color, the frizz never came!! read more

My sister and I wanted to treat ourselves while on vacation so decided to go and have our hair blown out. Michael was recommended to us by a friend and he did not disappoint. He was wonderful, tentative and hilarious! Both of our hair is very thick and he took his time making sure that they both came out beautiful! Really lovely staff and fantastic location. Used the online booking tool to make an appointment while on the beach and got my mani/pedi that afternoon. Gorgeous view, wonderful atmosphere, very cozy and very professional. Will definitely visit again on our next trip. read more

So wonderful! The people are so nice and accommodating and they fit in four massages without appointments on a weekend. It's an adorable spa with unique things throughout and an art gallery across the hall while you're waiting. Highly recommend to add to your block island vacation! read more

I had a fantastic visit to this special spa! It is decorated beautifully, wonderful staff, and very fresh and creative. The most amazing pedicure seat I have ever been in, it overlooks the entire harbor and one end of town, utilizing beautiful copper tubs, and a comfy couch too. ( not the standard massage chairs, but I didn't miss that for a moment) It was really great fun and so relaxing to be up there, looking around, while I enjoyed my top notch pedicure! My wife and I were each looking for a quiet, relaxing massage during our wedding anniversary weekend. However, the massage room is tiny and right off the main salon waiting area. All I could hear during the massage were people talking loudly right outside the door. The massage itself was good but if you're looking for a traditionally private, quiet and relaxing spa environment, I would not recommend it. read more

First of all, there is a DOG at this salon. Not only is that unprofessional but it also seems like it should be a violation of health code. And maybe it would be okay if it was well trained but it jumped up on my sister and scratched her for gods sake!!! I would also not characterize this place as clean, as a previous reviewer described. Perhaps the dog factors into my evaluation, but there was also a filthy floor from the remnants of the last guests. And I have to say... although the view was outstanding from my pedicure perch, the seating was very uncomfortable. Basically a wooden bench with a cheap cushion. I couldn't even lean back. Call me a snob, but I expect at least a slight recline when I'm paying $50 for a pedicure!! The only redeeming quality was that the girl who did my pedicure was excellent. She was lovely and did a great job. And That's why I'm giving this place a 2. The final straw? I used my credit card and was charged a "credit card fee" of 2.75% without being told. That burns me. And In fact, I think it violates Visa/MasterCard policy. I was going to call my credit card company and make a big deal about it... but I decided instead to give a heads up to the unsuspecting of you out there. Don't go to this place for service. There are other alternatives on the island. read more

I chose Clay-head Salon to do hair and makeup for my wedding at the Spring House Hotel for my May 20th wedding, and they were absolutely amazing! When I first spoke with Michael-Aron I described my dress and how I thought I might want my hair. When we met in person he talked me into a more vintage inspired hair style and it turned out to be amazing. He also told me which hair extensions to buy, they matched my hair perfectly and I am still using them today. His makeup artist Sena used the best high-end products and was very talented. I had tan lines and my dress was strapless, she was able to do airbrushing that completely covered it up. I loved the way I looked on my wedding day, and would definitely recommend this salon for bridal services! read more

My family and I received reasonably good massages at this spa. Staff were professional and customer friendly. However, as we were leaving, we were verbally accosted and insulted by the owner, who claimed that our tip was ridiculous. He even followed my wife out to the parking lot to keep complaining. They lost us as a customer due to his rude behavior, and we will be sure to spread the word. read more
