We started going here about a year ago and were so happy with Miguel and his work and the price, that my husband took back the entire family (kids and even in-laws). We loved him so much that we would wait as long as possible to get our hair cut there when we came in to town. My issue is with the owner who charged me $95 for a "last minute cancellation" because I called the morning of appointment REALLY sick with the flu. I had previously booked my appointment several days earlier. However, Miguel cancelled it because he was sick. My son visited him the next day and then got very sick (maybe from Miguel, maybe from our flight, who knows), then I got sick, tested positive for covid and looked like this picture. I can't imagine I would have even been allowed to come in with a fever and serious flu symptoms; so being over-charged for a simple cut and dry is very frustrating. I really hate to write this review, because I look forward to going to Miguel every time, but we won't be going back, unless the funds are refunded. I called 3 times and was very clear about the situation, and apparently the owner, Karen, would prefer to lose 5 clients, for a great stylist, than refund a sick client. read more

Amazing! I had a very special black tie event in August at Marble House in Newport, and needed to look on-point for the millions of selfies I would inevitably take. Natural Creations came through with a gorgeous and reasonably priced special event style that I adored! Because the event was so important, I booked both a trial run a few days prior and the actual style for day-of with Glenda. She was fantastic, and really made the requests I had based on inspiration photos pop. Since the party was "space themed", she curated a fun updo with space buns and lots of curls. I just want to give a huge shoutout to Marissa. I moved to RI for a short time coming from LA but Marissa did wonders to my hair. My hair isnt easy hair either. Its super thick and heavy! It was a huge challenge when i got there after having COVID hair with 3 different colors in my hair. Ive always struggled to find good hairstylists and I was blessed finding Marissa. This review is specifically for Lindsay who I found after searching Yelp for a new hair stylist/colorist now that I am moving to Newport. How lucky was I to find her!? She is amazing! She fixed what another colorist had done to me while (brassy, underdeveloped highlights which looked more like caramel than butter ‍) as I was transitioning from my usual stylist and she gave me a very nice cut as well. Made an Yelp account just for this review. I had a great experience the first time I went for highlights. The second time I didn't: instead of highlights, I was wrongfully booked for a "root touch up" which is a faster service. When the hairstylist realized it was actually a longer service, she went back to the reception probably to update the appointment and the price, which is fine of course. The problem was that she rushed a lot. Not only the highlights were really far away from my scalp, it was not blended at all. Also, that the tone of the new highlights didn't match the rest of my hair. I don't know if I'd come back, but if so, I'd choose a different professional. She was really nice and she was really great the first time, but the second was a disaster. With tip, the service was almost $300 which is a lot to have a rushed serviced and, honestly, to feel bad afterwards. English is not my first language. I emphasized "I want what I had the last time", while booking the second time. Since I was told I had a profile with a record of previous appointments. Clearly there was an error at reception, but it doesn't justify how my hair turned out, I could have come back another day. read more

Last visit was a real disappointment. They switched my stylist to a supposedly senior stylist but she was NOT. She even ask another hairdresser how to match my roots. So, I knew I was in trouble. She didn't cover the grey the first time and had to add more color. She had no idea how to wash hair and. Twice left shampoo in it. I ended up walking out and had to raise my hair when I got home. I was quite disappointed with the hair and make up services I received. I had my make up done by Cindy and didn't even recognize myself. My daughter kept saying how beautiful I looked but I think she was a bit tipsy. The make up was caked in my wrinkles and I looked like I had gigantic black caterpillars on my eyes. I just don't know why she had to put on such an excessive amount of lashes. At no time did she ever ask what kind of look I wanted. When I first walked in, my daughter-in-law was already finished and my first thought was how overdone she looked (she's 40). Little did I know how badly overdone I would look (I'm 62). My daughter, (she's 26) was getting her face done at the time and I kept thinking how much better I like her make up when she does it herself. It seemed like a one size fit all type of deal - everyone's make up looked the same but the older you are, the worse it looks. I think it was Lindsay who did my hair. This was a TOTAL rip-off. She did ask me what I wanted, and I said I wasn't sure. So she said she'd curl it and then "we'd play". She merely took a curling iron and some spray and made a few curls. Then bobby-pinned some hair in the back. $75 for that?! As hopeless as I am with hair styling tools, I could have done the same. We had done all this for a wedding, and later at the wedding, I saw all the hair styles of the girls in the wedding, and they all had such cute styles. Someone had come to the hotel. I sure wish I had had that person! But really, I think I learned to just accept myself for who I am and there was no need to spend $180 + tips on trying to be something I'm not. read more

She's knowledgeable about hair, color, and scalp sensitivity. She examined my hair, which was way past my shoulders, and I told her it needed a good cut so it moved better. Candace is the MacGyver of hair color. I came in with hair that was platinum blonde with dark, dark brown roots. The ends were completely stripped of color from all the years of being a box blonde, broke nursing student. I tried low lights before but nothing could hold in these broken strands. I thought I didn't have many options to now look like a professional. But once Candace was done with me, my hair was a perfect blend of blonde and low lights. After thoroughly washing my hair, Kelsey began to blow it out, only to realize I was in desperate need of a hair cut (my ends were super dead). She offered, at no charge to "dust" the ends. Now, I've never had this done before. But even still I could understand she went above and beyond. Essentially giving me a trim all over. She even fixed the front of my hair. On top of all of that, the weather was TERRIBLE that day and I had a few hours until the wedding. She pinned my curls up and put a shower cap on so that the curls wouldn't get ruined in the weather. I waited as long as I could - but finally came to terms with the fact that my hair could not wait until I went back to Philly for the winter - so I held my breath and daringly ventured into a new salon, without knowing anything about it or the people working there. My only stipulation was that it be an Aveda salon - and in Newport, Natural Creations is it. I was even more nervous when I was told that any day this week was fine to come in. But I told myself it's because it's off season, during the day during the week - not because they process people's hair until it falls out. So I got an appointment for the next day. Located on lower Thames, it doens't look like a whole lot from the outside. It's an old house, typical for the Yachting District, in bad need of a coat of paint. I went in and was offered herbal tea while I waited for my stylist, Remy, to arrive. (I was 10 minutes early, so no biggie.) I kept it simple - told her I just wanted to clean up my layers and touch up my roots. When she showed me the "color" (the fake hair used to illustrate their colors) I was a little nervous - it looked darker than my usual blonde. But after she assured me it would be blonde in the end, I chose to trust her. The color came out perfectly. She uses a different technique to achieve the end result than my normal colorist in Philly, but in the end the roots were matched perfectly to the rest of my color and she put highlights in the top and front. She didn't chop off all my hair - she just tipped the ends and cleaned up the layers, like I'd asked. All the people who work there were very friendly and funny. We had lots of great salon-chair dish throughout the whole process, which made it fun and the time go by fast. Cut, color blowdry was $130 - similar to what I pay in Philly. So Remy, you passed the test! I won't be afraid to get my hair done while in Newport next year! read more

After a few failed attempts at ombre highlights elsewhere, I decided to give Candace at Natural Creations a chance to fix me up. She made me feel comfortable talking openly about what I wanted so there was no confusion. We went over color swatches and what I liked most about the whole process was how collaborative the stylists are. Candace talked about what her plan of action was and got feedback from a few of the other girls to ensure the best possible outcome. Several hours later, it was time for the big reveal and I am happy to say I love my hair! I stopped in a week later so Candace could check up and make sure I still loved my hair. She trimmed a few pieces here and there to really finish off the hairstyle perfectly. As for the salon itself, the vibe is sort of "hustle and bustle" in the best possible way. It's a relaxed, fun environment. The clients were an even mix of locals and out-of-towners. They seem to get many clients coming in for wedding hair and makeup and I also noticed quite a few men frequent the salon, which was sort of refreshing from the normal estrogen-hormone-fest that some salons can be. I stopped in here to get a haircolor impromptu - right before the big day of my friend's destination wedding in Chatham, Cape Cod. We had to call many salons to find a last minute early morning time that worked. Natural Creations was able to get me in, they called back right away. They are used to out of town visitors needing hair color last minute - which is understandable in a tourist town like Newport. I was matched with B for my partial foil highlights - she is from Italy and has been doing hair for over eight years (maybe longer). It was seamless beautiful color. Candace Brisson is everything you want in a stylist. She is an absolute artist with mixing hair color and takes your requests for style to heart. She listens to your vision, offers incredible input about cut and color, works her magic with a smile and has become a close friend through my time in her chair. About a year and a half ago I decided to start highlighting my hair. As someone who is low maintenance, Candace has been able to recycle my colors of season past and revamp it in the most flattering way. She makes bed head easy for me and understands how to work with me to maximize a cut and color to save visits (and $). Yesterday I got an amazing cut and color which turned my summer golden beach hair more seasonally appropriate with subtle auburn undertones. .. Maybe it's not the whole salon, but I fear I won't be going back here for a curly cut. Last time I went, I paid good money to get a haircut, the stylist barely cut anything off, despite my plea to make my hair look healthy. The cut was somewhat poor as well, it just didn't do anything for me. She advised me to come back for a protein treatment the next day, which I did. They told me it would only take twenty minutes, so again I went in around 11am. However, it did not take 20 minutes, and I had to leave by 12:40 to go to work. I ended up leaving -- after I warned them about having to get out of there by a certain time, with my hair soaking wet. The staff is very pleasant, but as the star rating says " Meh.
